Former Colonial Restaurant owners Yaron Kweller and Jordan Rindgen were aquitted in Broome County Court Tuesday of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman in Binghamton in November 2021. The Broome County Jury took about 2 hours to clear the 2 of all charges.


21 year old Patrick Dai of Pittsford, and Cornell University, was arrested Tuesday on a federal criminal complaint charging him with posting threats to kill or injure another using interstate communications. Dai is accused of posting messages to the Cornell section of an online discussion site, where he allegedly called for the deaths of Jewish people and a post threatening to shoot up 104 west, which is a Cornell University kosher dining hall located next to the Cornell Jewish Center. The charge filed against Dai carries a maximum term of 5 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years. Dai is being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility pending court action in a federal court in Syracuse.


The State Dec announced that Amphenol Aerospace recently paid a civil penalty of $945,000 for violations related to the tampering of weekly sampling reports and submission of false materials to DEC over a two-year period. The DEC began investigating Amphenol Aerospace in April 2022 after being notified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency of a complaint that the facility had modified sampling practices by removing nitric acid from wastewater, drumming it into 55-gallon drums, and returning it back into the wastewater treatment system after weekly samples of effluent from the outfall had been collected. EnCon Police and DEC Division of Water employees inspected the facility, Amphenol has instituted procedures to avoid potential recurrences.


New York employers are expected to save more than $50 million dollars in 2024 due to a reduction in the annual workers’ compensation assessment rate, which was set today and goes into effect on January 1, 2024. The projected savings will reduce the current assessment costs for all New York State employers, including more than 400,000 small businesses across the state.


Hartwick College will hold their 2nd candidates forum today, today will include candidates running for election in the City of Oneonta. The forum runs from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, in the Shineman Chapel House on the Hartwick College campus, the forums are free & open to the public.


The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Zacheriah Jones-McCombs on an outstanding warrant for Robbery. Jones-McCombs is described as a white male, 5'11", 175 pounds, with brown hair & blue eyes & was last known to frequent the Mary Street area of the City of Binghamton. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the victim killed in a fatal motor vehicle accident on Monday. 17 year old Makai Wilkinson of Harpursville was driving a pickup truck with 2 passengers on Welton Street in the Town of Colesville when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree. The two passengers were transported Wilson Hospital, one for minor injuries and the other for serious injuries, but Wilkinson was pronounced dead at the scene. This is an ongoing investigation.


30 year old Terrence Mewborn pleaded guilty to 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, in Delaware County Court. On July 2, 2022, Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident with a rollover in the Town of Franklin, several of the passengers were injured and required hospitalization. Deputies found narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and a semi-automatic handgun, Mewborn was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, along with several other criminal charges, he entered a plea of guilty, he admitted the handgun was his, and that he did not have a pistol permit, it is anticipated that Mewborn will be sentenced to 2 to 4 years in state prison.

Governor Hochul signed legislation to expand access to contraception by making it available over the counter & legislation to ensure that every student enrolled in a SUNY or CUNY college has access to medication abortion on campus.


Attorney General Letitia James today secured agreements from the nation's largest insulin manufacturers to cap the price of insulin at $35 per monthly prescription for uninsured New Yorkers for 5 years. An investigation by the Office of the Attorney General found that From 2002 to 2013, the average list prices for insulin products tripled, about 10% of New Yorkers have diabetes, about 464,000 of them rely on insulin every day.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Tyler Rose of Exeter for 1st, 2nd & 3rd degree Assault, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Harassment among other charges, Deputies were dispatched to the West Exeter Fire Department after fire personnel located an adult victim with serious physical injuries, who was transported to Bassett Hospital with multiple fractures, lacerations and contusions. The investigation revealed that the victim was imprisoned at Rose's residence for days while subjected to continued assaults with a variety of tools and implements.

The Commissioners of the Delaware County Board of Elections will hold a public meeting at their offices at 97 Main Street, Suite 5, in Delhi as 12:00 Noon. The Commissioners are expected to make a final determination on the validity of the petition for District Attorney candidate Joe Ermeti, who is seeking the Republican Party nomination, if his petition is approved, he will face acting DA Shawn Smith in a Republican Party Primary on June 27th.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Tyler Newman of Unadilla following a motor vehicle accident on April 24, 2023 in the Town of Unadilla. Newman was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI, Refusal to Take Breath Test, Speed not reasonable and prudent among other charges, on County Highway 3 in Unadilla. Newman will appear in Town of Unadilla Court on May 8th.


Johnnie Hardwick of Binghamton will spend 12 years in jail following a hold up at Weis Markets in Binghamton last October. Hardwick was approached by a store employee & pulled a knife and threatened to stab the employee. Hardwick has previous convictions of Sexual Abuse and Attempted Robbery, he is classified as a persistent violent felony offender under state law.


State Police are warning New Yorkers of a computer scam. Police report that when logging on to a computer, a message is displayed on the screen that states to contact Microsoft due to a virus, the victim then contacts the phone number provided and speaks with a person who identifies themselves as a representative of Microsoft’s Security Office. The victim is then told their bank account information has been compromised. Anyone who receives a message to reach out to "Microsoft" support should not call & should never provide any personal information as it can be used to steal personal information.

The Trial of Nauman Hussain starts today in connection with the fatal crash of Hussain's Prestige Limo that crashed in Schoharie, killing 20 people in October 2018. Hussain is facing 20 counts of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, Jury Selection began this afternoon in Schoharie County Court.


The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force raided 41 Doubleday Street on Tuesday. Police seized Opioids, methamphetamine, suboxone strips, 5 long guns and 2 handguns, they arrested 47 year-old James Roberts on drug and weapons charges & 43 year-old Danielle Ashdown on weapons charges. Thursday, officers pulled over a vehicle with stolen plates in Binghamton and seized hydrocodone, ecstasy and a pair of handguns, 1 was reported stolen from Owego, they arrested 44 year-old Rondell Wright, 34 year-old Calvin Chambers, 24 year-old John Carter and 38 year-old Shauna Massey. On Thursday, officers raided 1 Lawton Avenue in Binghamton and seized meth, fentanyl and drug selling materials. Police arrested 39 year-old Robert Titus on drug charges.


On April 22, Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrol responded to motor vehicle accident at State Route 12 and 12A in the Town of Chenango, 50 year old Jennifer Chamberlain of Binghamton was talked out of the vehicle by a deputy as gas was spilling onto the pavement, fire fighters responded to the crash and leak. Chamberlain attempted to make a turn, but veered wide left, crossing lanes of traffic. Her vehicle jumped over a raised curb and continued over a mulch bed striking several signposts and bushes before coming to a stop in the gas station parking lot. The broken signposts had ruptured the vehicle’s gas tank. Chamberlain's BAC was .27%, over 3 times the legal limit, she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of 0.18 or more, Speed Not Reasonable & Prudent, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation among other charges, she was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket for Town of Chenango Court.


Attorney General Letitia James announced that 340 firearms were turned in at a community gun buyback event hosted by her office and the Johnson City Police Department. Attorney General James' office held 9 gun buyback events statewide with more than 3,000 guns turned in, including 185 assault rifles, 1,656 handguns, and 823 long guns. In Johnson City, they received 25 assault rifles, 169 handguns, and 114 long guns.
