State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli & the State Department of Financial Services announced the approval of the Butternut Valley Banking Development District as a participant in the Banking Development District program and deposited $35 million in New York State funds to Sidney Federal Credit Union’s new Morris Branch. SFCU Senior Vice President Andrew Smith said that it was a team effort with the Butternut Valley Alliance & State Officials to make this happen:

The program supports the establishment of bank and credit union branches across the State where there is a demonstrated need for banking services, the new District covers the towns of Butternuts, New Lisbon, and Morris, and the villages of Gilbertsville and Morris.


The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 2 Walton residents following a narcotics investigation in Kirkwood. Arrested were 30 year old Joseph Hahm, on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 22 year old Jubilee Klimas for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, both face court action on the charges shortly.


The Delaware Valley Humane Society's Shelter Saviors fundraising efforts brought in a lot of money for the shelter recently, Shelter Director Erin Insinga told WCDO news how much was raised:

Mayor Baker also said that they are waiting on the state department of health to give approval for the water for the Clover Lane Development project, and they may get that approval at Thursday's Village Planning Board meeting.

4 Binghamton men who were arrested February 4th by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office on 11 felony weapons charges have been remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility following an indictment filed by the Broome County District Attorney’s Office in Broome County Court. Samear Wallace, Johnathan Ayala, Isaiah Johnson, and Jahliek Walker-Coates, were charged with a total of 11 felony weapons charges following an investigation into gunshots fired in the Town of Dickinson, they were found to be in possession of 4 loaded ghost guns, one stolen and loaded handgun and six high-capacity ammunition feeding devices, including a 50-round drum magazine.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies investigated a trespassing complaint earlier this month, they interviewed the victim who accused 40-year-old Kristen Rice of Hancock had entered and remained in the dwelling of another person despite being asked, and that Rice subjected another person to unwanted physical contact. Deputies arrested Rice for Criminal Trespass and Harassment, Deputies transported Rice to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for processing, she was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility & was held for arraignment.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a traffic stop in Delhi February 10th, the driver provided Deputies with a false name and date of birth, K9 Dexter discovered Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, plus scales and packaging materials. 43-year-old Adam Bright of Delhi was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell, plus Criminally using Drug Paraphernalia, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, False Personation, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator among other traffic violations, Deputies transported Bright was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to be held for Arraignment.

Sidney Police Department responded Friday Afternoon to a report of a male subject pointing a firearm at a female at the Circle Drive Apartment Complex. Officers arrested 21 year old Connor Steidle of South Carolina, a search of the residence resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of cocaine and 2 firearms, including a handgun. Steidle was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, & 3 counts of Menacing. Steidle was transported to Delaware County Central Arraignment, where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $25,000 bail. Sidney Police Department was assisted by State Police with this arrest.


State Police responded Saturday to 438 County Highway 11, Lot 30 in the town of Laurens for to assist at a fully engulfed fire. West Laurens Fire, West Oneonta Fire, Mount Vision Fire and Laurens Fire were already on scene attempting to get the fire under control. It was determined that the resident, 62 year old Roger Delong was still inside and was later located deceased. Investigators from New York State Fire and the Otsego County Office of Emergency Services responded to the location and will determine the cause of the fire.


Deposit Fire fighters, with help from surrounding fire departments responded to a blaze on North Sanford Road, early Sunday Morning. early reports suggest that occupants & pets escaped, more information will be released shortly by the Deposit Fire Department.


State Police announced today that they are taking extra actions to ensure public safety during the Holiday Season, following the weekend attack of Jewish People in Australia on the 1st day of Hanukkah. State Police will maintain a presence at religious institutions, public gatherings, shopping malls and other venues, in order to deter criminal activity & be ready with a rapid response should an concern arise. Last Wednesday, Broome County Sheriff’s Road Patrol responded to the latest in a series of reported thefts of returnable cans and bottles from the BSA Troop 152 at Valley Christian Reformed Church in the Town of Chenango. A camera was installed inside the bin, investigators identified the suspect as 69 year old John Dubrava of Chenango Forks, who had previously been arrested in Chenango County in a similar case. Investigators located Dubrava and the vehicle from the thefts at a residence in Chenango Forks, he was charged with 3 Counts of Burglary & Petty Larceny.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies in the Town of Delhi and observed an E-Bike traveling on State Highway 10, which is prohibited and the operator was not wearing a helmet as required by law. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as 51-year-old Daniel White of Meridale, White was charged with felony DWI, Unlawful Operation of an E-Bike on a Highway, Operating E-Bike while Impaired, White was released on an appearance ticket and traffic summonses and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date to answer the charges.


Governor Kathy Hochul today announced more than $300 million in new state funding to support health care transformation projects across New York. The awards, made through the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, to support 22 projects aimed at improving health information technology by expanding patient electronic medical records, strengthening cybersecurity and patient information security, and expanding telehealth services. Locally, UHS Hospitals will receive 1.5 million dollars to expand their Telehealth services.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies conducted a traffic stop on State Highway 206 in the Town of Colchester, 45-year-old Steven Caiati of Starlight, Pennsylvania was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and several lesser traffic violations. Deputies located Methamphetamine & a firearm with a high-capacity magazine. Caiati was a convicted felon and was not permitted to be in possession of a firearm, he was Unlicensed Operator, all violations in the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Caiati was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Tampering with Physical Evidence, & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Caiati was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment Court.


Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old Terry McConnell of Guilford Thursday, after he allegedly causing a disturbance at the Town of Norwich Court. McConnell was charged with criminal contempt following the March 13 incident, McConnell initially entered the courtroom and began acting disorderly, after being told to leave, McConnell allegedly exited but returned shortly afterward. McConnell again acted disruptively and refused to comply with orders. McConnell was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He was processed and released on an appearance ticket to return to Town of Norwich Court at a later date.


State Police at Troop C on State Route 7, are holding a child's car seat safety check today. The event will be held between 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Troop C Headquarters, more information is available at 607-561-7400.


The State DEC issued a clarification regarding the state wide Burn ban on now through May 14th. Wildfires commonly occur in the spring during dry and windy conditions, and open burning is the single greatest cause of wildfires in NYS. Open burning of brush, limbs and branches is prohibited. Backyard fire pits, small cooking fires, and small campfires are still okay, but these can never be left unattended.


The Northeast Classic Car Museum announced that Tickets are on sale through Tuesday, October 14, 2025, this year they will raffle off a 2025 Mustang Convertible. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were in the village of Sidney Monday, they are believed to have detained 4 people, who are believed to have been working for Alpine Roofing. Local Law enforcement were not involved in the raid.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Christopher DeMarco of Unadilla, for Unlawful Surveillance, Sex Offender Failure to Notify Change of Address & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, following an investigation of Sex Offender unlawfully secretly recording a juvenile victim while the victim was changing, with a cell phone. DeMarco also had 4 internet accounts not registered on the State Sex Offender Registry. DeMarco was taken into custody Monday following the execution of a search warrant, he was processed and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment. An order of protection was requested on behalf of the victim. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.


Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23 year old Michael McWeeney of Afton for Criminal Contempt, Burglary, Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. McWeeney was arrested following an investigation in to stolen firearms, he is accused of unlawfully entering a structure where he stole several firearms,he also violated an order of protection. All firearms were recovered by the Sheriff’s Office. McWeeney was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional facility on cash bail.


Commerce Chenango's 2nd annual Women's Leadership Conference will be held today at the Canasawacta County Club in Norwich, about 225 are expected to attend, the keynote speaker will be Barbara Schindler of Golden Artists Colors.


The Cullman Child Development Center in Sidney will have their annual Summer educational series for area Children, with a Soap Box Derby day in Unadilla on Sunday July 13th, Unadilla Mayor Jake Cotten explains:

The CDC reported this week that the UK Variant of COVID 19 has the potential to overtake the first COVID virus in the coming months; Governor Cuomo discussed that at his press conference today:

The state has administered 97% of the 1st 2 doses of the vaccines from the federal Government, however the amount administered to Hospital workers is still below 70%


The State Health Department conducted 268,001 COVID tests Thursday, they reported over 15,100 positives, or a lower positivity rate of 5.65%.  Hospitalizations were at 8846, there were 1546 in an ICU Bed & the number of ventilators went down to 992, there were 165 deaths Thursday.


Chenango County Public Health reported 190 active cases of COVID 19 with 21 hospitalized & 522 quarantined.  They are up to 1821 cases since last spring with 1540 recoveries & 35 deaths.


Governor Cuomo announced that New York State will investigate prescription drug price hikes connected to the pandemic.  The Department of Financial Services Office of Pharmacy Benefits announced an investigation into significant price spikes for 6 drugs that were connected to the COVID-19 pandemic.


Freshman State Senator Peter Oberacker heard his 1st budget proposal as a state lawmaker this week, he told WCDO News of proposals that he liked & disliked:

Oberacker replaces Jim Seward in the 51st State Senator District, who decided to retire last year after serving for more than 3 decades in the State Senate.


The State Assembly Majority Democrats this week are looking to change how the redistricting process will work and could change how district maps are drawn, in spite of a recent resolution passed by New York Voters; Freshman Assemblyman Joe Angelino opposes the measure:

Angelino said that the measure was decided in 2014 & it would now be overturned with this new bill.  Redistricting is based on Census figures that were collected & compiled in 2020, the state legislature will likely change district lines in the next 2 years.

Governor Cuomo updated New Yorkers on the state's vaccination program. To date, New York's health care distribution sites have administered 93% of 1st  doses received from the federal government, and 91% of 1st & 2nd doses.  The Southern Tier had the highest rating, almost 100% were vaccinated.


Otsego County Department of Health reported 30 new COVID cases reported Thursday, they report over 280 active cases, 19 hospitalized, there was 1 death reported Wednesday & 1 reported Thursday, cases continue to be related to social gatherings.


Delaware County Public Health reported 30 news COVID cases Thursday, with 4 new deaths & 17 hospitalized, 138 active cases & 240 in quarantine.


Sidney Central School District reported 4 positive COVID-19 cases, 2-2nd graders, 1-7th grader and one 9th grade student have tested positive for COVID-19. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and contact tracing, There will be no change to the instructional model at this time.


New York State Department of Labor reported that the state Unemployment Rate Fell to 8.2% in December, the 5th Straight Month of Declining Unemployment Rates in New York State.   The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 8.2%, falling from 8.4% in November.


The Open Enrollment Period for uninsured New Yorkers will be extended through March 31st.  This extension allows individuals eligible for Qualified Health Plan insurance additional time to enroll for coverage in 2021.   New Yorkers can apply for coverage through NY State of Health online at nystateofhealth.ny.gov, by phone at 1-855-355-5777, and by connecting with a free enrollment assister.

Governor Cuomo today said that some random antibody testing began this week at supermarkets and other large retail buildings, of about 3,000 New Yorkers, to see who has had the Coronavirus & has antibodies to donate to treat existing patients:

Governor Cuomo the infection rates from this early small sample size had an infection rate upstate of about 3.6%, while downstate was between 15-23%.  The Governor Said that the state now has 263,460 positive tests, with roughly 1,350 new cases for the 3rd straight day, the number of hospitalizations was down to 15,000 statewide, the number of deaths is up to 15,740.


The State Labor Department continues to grapple with the large number of people filing for unemployment insurance since the Coronavirus issue started early in March, another 207,000 people were accepted into the system this week, bringing the total up to 1.4 million New Yorkers eligible for Unemployment insurance, Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa said that there is one group of people that will be accepted shortly who had the process made more complicated by Federal legislation:

DeRosa said that about 3000 people have been hired to help deal with the backlog of unemployment claims; all will receive the money that they are owed since they first lost their jobs.


State Police have received several reports of email scams that demand that the person who receives the email must pay a Bitcoin ransom in order to keep alleged sexually explicit videos from being sent to all the contacts in the person’s email and social media contacts.  The email contains personal information, sometimes the complainant’s password or a password similar to their actual password.    Police said that the emails are fake, & the recipient should not send any money, just ignore the email and change the password to your account, they also suggest that you do not open any links that you are not familiar with.  If you have lost money in a scam, contact the State Police or your local law enforcement.


Alpine Roofing in Sidney has converted 2500 snorkel masks into respirators for area health care professionals, Alpine owner Hans Hass explains:

Delaware County Public Health announced today that they had no new positive Coronavirus tests, they still report 65 positives, with 10 of those transferred to the patients home county, they have 32 recoveries, 17 Isolated at home, 2 Hospitalized, 4 have died & 73 are quarantined.


Chenango County Public Health announced their latest Coronavirus situation.  Chenango County has 79 total cases, with 3 deaths, 56 recoveries, 6 active Hospitalizations and 106 people quarantined.


The number of Broome County Coronavirus cases is up to 241 positive tests, they are up to 12 deaths, 86 recoveries and 406 people in quarantine situations.


U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $145,510 in federal funding to help offset the cost of preparing and responding to the coronavirus health crisis. The City of Binghamton received $87,502 and the City of Albany Courthouse received $58,008. The funding was allocated through the Department of Justice as part of the recently passed "CARES" Act.

Governor Cuomo announced that the state is up to 257,000 cases of the Coronavirus with 15,302 deaths and just fewer than 16,000 people hospitalized for the virus.  The Governor stated Wednesday that this country needs to get back into the manufacturing of testing equipment, ventilators & PPE's going forward, instead buying all of those items from China:

Governor Cuomo also said that the state will implement a regional approach to opening up schools & businesses, based on the numbers associated with the Coronavirus around the state.
