Former Broome County Executive Assistant in the Broome County DA's Office, James Worhach, pleaded guilty to felony Grand Larceny In Broome County Court this week. Worhach admitted to stealing more than $1,000 from Broome County to pay for unauthorized parking for himself and former District Attorney Stephen Cornwell, in a commercial parking lot from 2016-2019. Previously, Worhach pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of Stolen Property for working to cover up a felony DWI arrest of Cornwell in 1995, by wiping it out of the DA computer system. Worhach will be sentenced on March 7th, he faces up to 4 years in prison, and the prosecution will seek $5,455 in restitution.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies noticed a disabled tractor trailer on State Highway 17 on January 20th, Upon making contact with the driver, 34 year old Jeiron Vallejo of Bronx, was found to be operating the tractor trailer with a suspended registration & without insurance. Deputies charged Vallejo with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Registration is Suspended, he was released on an appearance ticket to the Colchester Town Court at a later date.
Sidney Federal Credit Union has partnered with the National Forest Foundation to plant a tree for every new member and business account enrolled at the credit union in 2023, spokesman Andrew Smith explains:

State Senator Peter Oberacker Supported the Senate approval of legislation to help increase safety for limousine passengers. The comprehensive package of bills follows recommendations advanced by the Stretch Limousine Passenger Safety Task Force:

The task force was created as a direct result of the deadly crash in the Town of Schoharie in Ocotber of 2018 where 20 people died, the legislation passed by the state senate must still be approved by the state assembly and signed by the governor to take effect.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton Saturday Night, the vehicle had failed to maintain operation within its designated lane of travel, by crossing over the center roadway markings multiple times. Deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as 22-year-old Paul Akinware of New York, A check of Akinware’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Deputies subsequently arrested Akinware For Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failing to Turn in License to DMV, Unlicensed Operator, Moving from lane unsafely and No/Inadequate Lights, Akinware was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli oversees more than 46 million unclaimed funds accounts valued at $17.5 billion. In February, staff from the Comptroller’s office will attend community events to help residents search for lost and forgotten money that is owed to them, New Yorkers can also check at ouf.osc.state.ny.us or by calling 1-800-221-9311.

Governor Kathy Hochul will present the Executive Budget Proposal at the Capitol at 12:00 Noon today. The budget will be turned over to the legislature for consideration ,they have until April 1st to get it passed.
State Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation released its report on the death of Paul Weeden in Walton. On October 4th 2021, Weeden called 911 and said he was going to hurt himself & needed a police officer sent to 14 Griswold Street, A Walton Police Officer responded who requested back up from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, a deputy met the Walton officer at Weeden's residence. Weeden called the officer to come inside, he was covered by a blanket, and asked the officer to come closer. The officer asked Weeden to take his hands out from under the blanket, Weeden was holding a gun, the officer retreated out the front door, urging Weeden to drop the weapon, Weeden moved to the front door with his gun pointed at the officer, and the officer fired his service weapon, Weeden fell, but then raised the gun, and the officer fired again. Weeden was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers recovered a pellet gun at the scene, there were no markings on The gun that distinguished it from a firearm. The Attorney General's Office determined that criminal charges could not be pursued against the officer.
Deposit Fire Department responded on Saturday to a fatal fire on Lumber Road in the town of Deposit. The fire started around 4 pm. and the house was deemed a total loss, the name of the victim has not been released pending family notification. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters from Afton, Hancock, Harpursville, Masonville, and West Windsor fire departments responded.
The largest open-access electric vehicle fast charging hub in the Southern Tier region is open, as the New York Power Authority developed the 16-charger site at Hancock Town Hall in Delaware County in partnership with Tesla along Route 17. The site includes 8 universal charging ports installed by the Power Authority and 8 Supercharger ports by Tesla for its EVs.
Several Fire Companies were assisting Bainbridge this morning for a structure fire at State route 206 and Butts Road. that was called in at about 4:00 AM. WCDO news will have more details as they become available.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 31 year-old James Lynch will spend 3 ½ to 3 years in prison after pleading guilty to 3rd degree attempted robbery, in Broome County Court. Lynch forcibly stole cash from a cab driver in Binghamton in January 28, The driver reported the robbery to Binghamton Police, who located Lynch & arrested him.
The Community Arts Network will bring back the City of the Hills Art Festival, on Saturday, from 12:00 Noon into the night hours. Activities include a mural unveiling, a downtown art walk, & over 40 artists & vendors are expected, plus over 20 musical performances are scheduled, more information is available at cityofthehillsfest.org.
The Greater Oneonta Historical Society opens their latest exhibit today; entitled "Town & Gown: SUNY Oneonta and the Local Community, Past and Present" The exhibit is located at the Oneonta History Center’s at 183 Main Street, the exhibit will be on display until November 12th.

The Bainbridge-Guilford Board of Education voted to honor former soccer coach and technology teacher, Peter Feltham, by naming the soccer field after him, BG Superintendent Tim Ryan said that there will be a dedication tonight to the coach, and he expects a large turnout:

Chenango County Emergency Services & NYSEG will distribute bottled water & dry ice this afternoon, according to Coordinator Matt Beckwith:

Beckwith said that any distributions tomorrow will depend on how quickly NYSEG gets power restored to Chenango County Residents.
The Otsego County Department of Emergency Services announced that Dry ice and bottled water will be available for pick up this evening at the Unadilla fire station and the West Exeter fire station from 6 PM – 9 PM or while supplies last. They also announced that the Emergency shelter at the Armory in will cease operations tomorrow, at 12 Noon. The Clark’s Sports Center will remain open until further notice. Edmeston Central School will be open this evening from 5:00M – 9 PM for Edmeston residents to come and get warm, get a hot meal and a hot shower.
4Towns Forward will hold their Community Yard Sales Saturday, spokesperson Teri Schunk told WCDO news where people will be set up:

Tehan said that the Friends of Rogers Visitor Center will have all of the activities, Seasonal hours of the Visitor Center are from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
40 organizations in the region were awarded grants totaling $287,684 from the Community Foundation for South Central New York. Funded Organizations included museums, theater groups, libraries, human service agencies, animal welfare organizations, chambers of commerce, food banks, housing programs, and public safety agencies and other nonprofits, municipalities, and school districts. Attorney General Letitia James distributed the 1st round of payments from the opioid settlements to the Southern Tier. In 2022, the Southern Tier will receive a total of $4.8 million, from the $1.5 billion settlement Attorney General James secured with the manufacturers and distributors of opioids for prevention efforts. Later this year, the Southern Tier will receive additional payments from the settlements with Endo Health Solutions, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, and Allergan. Locally Broome County receives $1.6 Million dollars, Chenango County, $308,000, Delaware County: $327,000.
The Board of Trustees of Hartwick College announced today that they have selected Darren Reisberg, executive vice president and chief strategy officer at the Joyce Foundation, as the College’s 11th president, he will take office on August 1, replacing Dr. Margaret Drugovich, who announced her retirement earlier this after serving as Hartwick College President for 14 years.
The Binghamton Great Race Committee announced that the participants will be in Binghamton on Sunday afternoon, June 19th. The Great Race is a cross-country, vintage car timed rally, more information is available at greatrace.com.
Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond awarded Deputy Samantha Acuna with the Sheriff’s Superstar Award for meritorious service while in the performance of duty. On April 8th, Deputy Acuna was dispatched to a “routine” welfare check following a call to 911 with an “open line”. Upon gaining entrance to the residence, Deputy Acuna found a male victim suffering from an apparent stroke, rendered first aid and immediately called for medical assistance, and likely saved the victim’s life.
State Police members from Troop C removed 42 impaired drivers from the roadways in the Southern Tier in March. The majority of the charges stem from misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated charges, several people were charged with other crimes, including robbery, and drug possession.
42-year-old Jeremie Hoyt of Davenport, New York, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to 2 counts of sexual exploitation of a child, 2 counts of distribution of child pornography, and 1 count of possession of child pornography. Hoyt is being held pending sentencing scheduled for August 24, 2022, he faces at least 15 years and up to 110 years imprisonment on the charges, and a fine of up to $250,000.
NYSEG reports that thousands are still without power this morning across the region. Broome County had more than 15,000 customers without power, Chenango County over 9,600, Delaware County over 5300, Otsego County with more than 6300, earlier today.

Norwich City Police responded to the report of a gunshot Saturday Night on Broad Street, and discovered an alleged meth lab at 134 South Broad Street and arrested 27 year old Tyler Mills. Mills was charged with resisting arrest, 2nd degree obstruction of governmental administration, and criminal nuisance. A search warrant was executed at Mills residence, & the evidence of a meth lab was collected by officers, the investigation is continuing & more charges are expected.
Helios Care of Oneonta was selected as a Silver Winner in The John A. Hartford Foundation Tipping Point Challenge, a national competition focused on the submission of initiatives that have made positive, breakthrough change in the care of those with serious illnesses, CEO Dan Ayres comments:

State Police have arrested 46 year old Charles Richter of Bainbridge, who was wanted in connection with an assault during a domestic dispute in Bainbridge. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment, Richter has been charged with Attempted Murder, 1st degree Assault, Criminal Contempt, Unlawful Imprisonment.
The State Health Department reported a surge in COVID 19 positive tests Sunday with 22,478 positives out of 267,422 Tests for an 8.41% Positivitiy rate, Patient Hospitalizations were at 3,880, Patients in ICU is up to 761, the number of Patients on ventilators is up to 448. There were 58 deaths in hospitals & nursing homes.

Governor Cuomo announced Thursday's COVID 19 numbers across the state; they conducted 131,993 tests with 1,194 positives. Hospitalizations increased again to 779 people, the number of ICU patients went down slightly to 168, and the number of Patients on Ventilators went up by 11 to 78. There were 6 deaths Thursday; the state death toll is 25,561.
The Broome County Health Department announced that they had another 88 Positive COVID 19 cases today, giving the County 2238 total cases since March, and 628 cases since October 1st. They report 659 active cases with 10 hospitalizations, there have been 83 deaths, over 1500 recoveries.
Chenango County Public Health announced that they are up to 267 COVID 19 positive cases since March. Currently there are 11 active cases, 1 Hospitalization and 126 active quarantines, there have been 7 deaths, 236 recoveries & over 30,700 tests performed.
NYSEG announced today that crews continue to make significant progress across the Oneonta Division, after strong winds and heavy rain disrupted service to thousands of customers on Wednesday. The company expects to restore 95% of customers in the Oneonta Division by 6:00 p.m. today and achieve total restoration by the end of the day. Currently, approximately 920 customers are without power in the company’s Oneonta Division which includes Broome, Chenango, Delaware & Otsego counties.

Delaware County Public Health reported no new cases of COVID 19 Thursday, with 6 active cases all recovering at home, and 101 are in quarantine. The county has had 129 total cases since the spring, with 8 deaths & 115 recoveries.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Davenport on Monday night that resulted in the caller being arrested and charged with falsely reporting an incident. Deputies determined that the caller, 26 year-old Brittany Cole of Davenport called 911 following a verbal dispute and falsely reported being physically assaulted during the domestic dispute. Cole was charged with falsely reporting an incident; she was processed and issued an appearance to Davenport Town Court at a later date.
Today is the last day New Yorkers can register to vote in the 2020 General Election. To register, you must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the State and the county, city or village in which you are registering for at least 30 days before the election; and be at least 18 years old on or by November 3rd. State Police responded to a 2-car fatal crash on State Highway 8 in the town of New Berlin Tuesday afternoon at about 2:45 PM. Troopers said that a vehicle traveling northbound operated by 31 year old Kerri Bunnelle of Little Falls, crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a vehicle head-on driven by 43 year old Mathew Fredericks of Herkimer, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Bunnelle was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. The investigation is on-going.

Governor Cuomo announced that individuals travelling from 3 additional states will be required to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival to New York State. The states of Delaware, Kansas and Oklahoma have met the Metrics to Qualify for the Travel Advisory. The State Health department announced that 588 people tested positive statewide for the Coronavirus that was about 1% of those tested Monday. There were 10 COVID-19 Deaths in New York State Monday, the total Number of cases since March is up to 398,237.
New York is continuing a study of specific air conditioning filter requirements to potentially prevent the airborne spread of the Coronavirus. Governor Cuomo comments:

Sidney Town Supervisor Gene Pigford announced that the next Sidney Town Board Meeting will be held live at 7:00 pm this Thursday, July 9th at 44 Grand Street in Sidney. Sidney Center residents are advised that a follow up Re-Zoning meeting with Town Supervisor Gene Pigford will be held Thursday, July 16th, @ 6:30PM @ the firemen's field in downtown Sidney Center. State Police responded to Town Brook Road at Red Rock Road
in the town of Stamford to a report of a propane truck in a ditch and on its
passenger side. An investigation
revealed that for an unknown reason, possibly medically related, 62 year old
Edward Walley of Delhi drove off the roadway, into a ditch and struck a utility
pole before rolling to its passenger side.
Walley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. An autopsy is scheduled for later today, the
investigation is continuing.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 people on a
variety of drug charges after a search warrant was executed in the town of
Worcester. Deputies arrested 30 year old
Jesse Wilson & 29 year old Samone Van Buren, they seized crack cocaine,
suboxone, marijuana, $2,000 in cash, drug paraphernalia, and Wilson and VanBuren were arraigned in
the Town of Worcester Court and sent to the Otsego County Jail on $25,000 cash
or $50,000 bond pending court action on September 3rd.
Former Cooperstown teacher Justin Hobbie pleaded guilty to 3
counts of sexual exploitation of a child.
Hobbie was accused of persuading girls under the age of 16 of sending
him explicit videos. Hobbie will be
sentenced in December he will likely serve jail time & will be required to
register as a sex offender.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation strengthening protections
for minors against felony sex offenders. The law prevents minors from being
placed in the custody of an individual who has been convicted of rape in the
first or second degree, sexual conduct against a child in the first degree or
predatory sexual assault against a child, it also prevents sex offenders from
having unsupervised visits with a person who has been convicted of a felony
sexual offense against the subject of the visitation order.
New York state farms generated $5.7 billion in revenue in
2017, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom
DiNapoli. New York has 33,400 farms,
employs more than 55,000, farmland covers 23% of the state's total land area, New York ranks second nationwide for the
production of apples and maple syrup, ranks third for grapes and eleventh for
beer. New York is the third largest
producer of wine, with its wineries producing nearly 32 million gallons in

Police arrested 64 year old Norman Fletcher of Bainbridge for Driving While
Ability Impaired by Drugs & Failure to Keep Right. Troopers, who were leaving the Sidney
headquarters after training, observed Fletcher driving on State Route 7 in the
town of Unadilla failing to keep right, Fletcher was processed and was released
on appearance tickets to the town of Unadilla court on August 12th.
Governor
Cuomo has signed "Shannon's Law" recently, named after a Long Island
Teacher who died of breast cancer at the age of 31. Insurance companies must cover annual
mammograms for women over 35; previously, insurance companies were only
required to cover annual mammogram screenings for women over the age of 40.

Police at Sidney arrested 36 year old Sabrina Hetrick of Guilford for DWI,
after Troopers responded to a 1-car accident on State Route 51 in the town of
Butternuts. Hetrick was transported to
Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown of complaint of pain and was issued appearance
tickets to the town of Butternuts court on August 22nd.

5-hour traffic saturation detail with troopers from Troops C, G and H, the
Delaware, Greene & Schoharie County Sheriff’s Departments, DEC Police, Park
Rangers, & the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. A total of 38 traffic summons were issued for
DWI, Leandra's Law, aggravated unlicensed operation, unregistered motor
vehicle, speeding, & 2 people were wanted on active warrants.
The
Community Foundation for South Central New York announced a new mini-grant
opportunity for qualified non-profit organizations in Broome, Tioga, Chenango,
Delaware and Otsego counties. Proposals
may be submitted for projects that support, develop and/or expand the skill set
of young professionals in our region and/or increase their involvement in the

A
new Siena College Poll of registered New York voters found that the majority of
New Yorkers say Governor Cuomo has made the state a better place since he took
office in 2011, the poll also found that his favorability and job performance
ratings currently match record lows. New
York voters said Cuomo has improved the state by a 51 to 39% margin, but his favorability ratings of 43% negative
and 50% positive matches his lowest ratings, his job performance rating of 34%
positive and 64% negative is his lowest ever.
The
State Department of Health announced that a proposal for a new Medicaid model
of care serving children throughout the state with complex health needs has
been approved by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The
new model will improve access to Medicaid services and expand Medicaid coverage
to home- and community-based care for more than 6,000 youth under age 21 who
are faced with an array of serious health issues and otherwise could be forced
to live in hospitals and other institutionalized settings.

the law under a 2012 court decision. The new rules, approved by lawmakers
earlier this year, would allow the state's Division of Human Rights to
investigate allegations of bullying, harassment or other forms of
discrimination. The anti-bias law is
intended to prevent discrimination based on factors such as race, religion,
national origin or sexual orientation.

that $10 million will be awarded to 18 municipalities statewide to continue the
state's initiative to replace residential drinking water lead service lines
through the State Department of Health's Lead Service Line Replacement Program. The City of Norwich will get $528,750 in this
round of funding.
