State Police in Norwich responded to 961 County Route 33, in the Town of Norwich, for a report of an 11 year old girl in cardiac arrest. Responding patrols arrived and determined the victim, Jacelyn O’Connor of Morris, was deceased. Further investigation determined she was the victim of a homicide. Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police in Norwich at 334-3296.

State Police responded to a 2 vehicle crash on State Route 7 in the town of Unadilla. An investigation determined that 92 year old Joseph Norton of Sidney was driving a Chevrolet Impala, eastbound on State Route 7 when he entered a sharp curve in the roadway and drifted into the westbound lane & struck a dump truck driven by 38 year old Jeffrey Haynes of Sidney head on. Norton was deceased at the scene. Haynes was airlifted to Albany Medical Center and was listed in critical condition. Haynes passenger, 40 year old Jackie Ryan of Mt. Upton was transported to Wilson Hospital and is in stable condition. An autopsy will be conducted at Lourdes hospital, the investigation is ongoing.
27-year-old Kyle Ives of Oneonta was charged with reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing police in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana, Monday following a high-speed car chase from Oneonta to Milford. Oneonta Police had stopped Ives on Spruce Street; Ives fled, and was chased by police onto I-88, the pursuit ended when Ives crashed into Guide rails on Otsego County route 44 in Milford. Ives was taken to Bassett Hospital, there were no other injuries or vehicles involved.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 27-year-old Frank Mastrorocco and 23-year-old Misty Jackson on of Walton drug possession charges last Thursday afternoon, July 27. Both were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (heroin) and Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument. Jackson was also charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Mastrorocco was under the supervision of the New York State Division of Parole, & was arrested on a Parole Revocation Warrant. Mastrorocco and Jackson were arraigned & were remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,000.00 cash bail pending further action by the Village of Walton Court.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded Sunday afternoon in the Town of Walton in relation to a reported violation of an order of protection. Deputies arrested and charged 56-year-old Edward Steitz of Walton with Criminal Contempt, Steitz violated the “stay away” provisions of an Order of Protection issued by Delaware County Family Court Judge Gary A. Rosa. Steitz was arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional facility on $1,500 cash bail pending a future appearance in the Town of Walton Court.
The Delaware County Historical Association is looking for individuals to volunteer some of their time to be extras in a movie the museum is filming. Individuals interested in being part of a scene involving a crowd at Church are needed. The scene will take place on Saturday, August 12th at 2 PM, but early arrival is highly encouraged. Filming will be at the Fitches Bridge Church on Route 10 in Delhi. Anyone interested is asked to call the museum at 746-3849.

Governor Cuomo announced that 26 state-approved Child Advocacy Centers will share more than $4 million to enhance services provided to children who are victims of crime. The centers are located across New York State and will use the funding to offset the cost of purchasing and installing video recording equipment, as well as hiring specially trained staff to interview young victims of sexual and physical abuse. In the Southern Tier, funding was designated to the Crime Victims Assistance Center for two centers, one in Broome County, one in Chenango County, totaling $118,097
The Oneonta Common Council meeting originally scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled. The meeting will be held Wednesday Night at 7:00 PM at the Common Council Chambers at City Hall.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Business Links Golf Tournament on Tuesday, September 12 at the Delhi College Golf Course, with a 1:00 PM shotgun start. Captain and crew four-person entry fees are $300 per team. Fee includes cart and green fees, dinner, unlimited range balls and invaluable networking. Free concert Tuesday will be held at General Clinton Park tonight, sponsored by Bainbridge Community Foundation. Woodshed Prophets will perform at 6:30, the concert is made possible by donations from several local businesses. If it rains it will be held in pavilion.

State Police arrested 39 year old Trenton Jackson of Rochester, for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, after a trooper observed 2 vehicles traveling at about 90 miles per hour while on I-81, both vehicles exited the highway at Castle Creek, where the trooper issued both drivers a tickets. Jackson had 17 suspensions on his license; he was issued tickets for town of Barker court on August 8th.
The Oneonta Department of Public Service will replace sidewalks on Columbia Street this week & into next week. Work will be conducted between 7:00 AM & 4:00 PM daily, there will be no on street parking or driveway access during the project, until the concrete has cured. Governor Cuomo signed legislation to allow farm distilleries to sell New York State labeled beer, wine, and cider for consumption on-premises. The new law will amend a section of the alcoholic beverage control law to allow farm distilleries to sell New York State-labeled beer, wine and cider for on-premises consumption, effective immediately.
State police responded to the report of an accident in Morris to a man cutting a tree Friday. 39-year-old Bradley Jones was cutting down a tree, when a section struck him, and sent him down onto a bulldozer; he suffered a head injury & was airlifted to Upstate Medical center in Syracuse with non-life Threatening injuries.
A Canadian man suffered injuries & was charged with DWI, following an MVA in the town of Andes late Saturday night. 49-year-old Daniel Catherine of Montreal is accused of being intoxicated when he crashed into a deer on State Route 28, State Police also discovered Marijuana in the vehicle. Catherine was taken to Margaretville Hospital; he was charged with DWI & unlawful possession of marijuana, he will appear in Andes Town Court at a later date.
Governor Cuomo today signed legislation, which will immediately ban the use of electronic cigarettes on all public and private school grounds in New York State. School grounds includes any building, structure and surrounding outdoor grounds contained within a public or private pre-school, nursery school, elementary, or secondary school's property, and any vehicles used to transport children or school personnel.

The State DEC is investigating the report of an alligator near Whitney Point in the Tioughnioga River, which was first located Saturday. DEC Officers were dispatched & they are actively investigating. Alligator should be reported to the DEC at 518-402-8000.
Binghamton Police responded to a call of a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian. 37 year old Amie Lewis of Binghamton was crossing at Main and Murray Streets when she was hit by a car, Saturday Night, she suffered severe head and internal injuries and is in critical condition at an area hospital. Binghamton Police recovered a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident & 45 year old Matthew Wood of Greene was arrested on Monday & was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with serious physical injury. Wood was held by Binghamton Police pending arraignment in Binghamton City Court. Anyone with information should contact Binghamton Police at 772-7080.
On Saturday Night, Binghamton Police responded to Mygatt Street for a report of shots-fired. Binghamton Police K9 units located a loaded .40 caliber handgun under the porch steps of 22 Mygatt Street, Police arrested 24 year old Trevor Hawkins for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Discharging a Firearm in the City, and no injuries were reported.

The Otsego County Board of Representatives has requested an employee file from Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin. The board wants to review potential violations of the county’s workplace violence prevention program & what if any disciplinary actions were taken, regarding the sheriff’s son, Corrections Officer Ross Devlin. Ed Frazier also said that during their workplace violence investigation, other information came to light regarding disciplinary procedures and treatment of inmates at the Otsego County Jail.
Oneonta Police were dispatched Wednesday to a reported attempted home invasion robbery at 306 Chestnut Street. 3 men reportedly arrived in a dark colored sedan; one of the men was described as a “young black male” with short hair. The initial officers noted a powerful odor of marihuana in the dwelling. A search warrant was obtained & executed & 4 pounds of marihuana and over $14,000 cash was seized. Police arrested 25 year old Edwin Milette of Oneonta for Criminal possession of marihuana, the investigation into the alleged burglary is continuing. Milette was arraigned in Oneonta City Court and was remanded to the custody of the Otsego County Sheriff on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
The Sidney High School and the Tri Town Coalition on Substance Abuse prevention will hold a substance abuse education night on Wednesday march 22nd at 6:00 PM. Community Members, families & students of the Sidney, Bainbridge & Unadilla areas are encouraged to attend; free dinner will be served by the Sidney school. The 64th Sidney Rotary Pancake Breakfast will be served Saturday at the River Street Fire Station Training Center in Sidney. Breakfast will be served from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM; proceeds will benefit community service projects.


The St. Baldrick’s Foundation of Norwich will host a head-shaving event Saturday, at the American Legion, 29 Sheldon Street, Norwich. About 2 dozen people will have their heads shaved in solidarity with children with cancer and raise money to Conquer Childhood Cancers. The event starts at 6 pm in the banquet hall of the Legion. It is free and the public is invited to attend.
