Norwich Police arrested 59 year old Richard Clemons of Norwich on numerous counts of Rape, promoting a sexual performance by a child, possessing a sexual performance by a child, forcible touching, endangering the welfare of a child, Tampering with physical evidence & sexual abuse. Norwich police & the Chenango County Child advocacy Center received information of a an adult performing sexual activities with a 13 year old juvenile, Clemons was taken into custody, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail pending future court action.

60 year old Ann Affolder of Binghamton, was arrested after she struck multiple trick-or-treaters with her vehicle on Halloween in the Town of Chenango on South Morningside Drive. Deputies & 1st responders found the vehicle with an adult male still trapped underneath, 1st responders were able to successfully extricate the victim, 4 victims were injured, 3 were transported to Wilson Hospital. The investigation revealed that Affolder was backing out of a driveway when the vehicle accelerated onto the street and struck 4 people, Affolder was charged with Vehicular Assault, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, & Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance for Methamphetamines, she was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail.

The Matthews Auto Group raised $153,561 at the 7th Annual Matthews Walk-A-Thon to benefit 13 kids’ charities in New York & Pennsylvania. Chenango County Child Advocacy Center in Norwich receives $14,679 from the efforts of the Norwich area Walk-A-Thon, Matthews Auto donated $10 per mile for every mile walked by registered participants, to the charity or charities of the walker’s choosing, $593,739 has been raised by the Matthews Walk-a-thon since the event’s inception 7 years ago.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate, 38 year old Chelsey Davis of Port Dickinson, who was remanded to the jail by the Town of Chenango Court last week. Davis received a full medical and substance abuse screening, She was then housed in the Medical Unit & was later seen by medical staff for a 2nd time, medical staff were called back to her housing unit for a third examination. Staff reported finding Davis responsive and not exhibiting any issues, 20 minutes later, she experienced a medical emergency, staff administered CPR and used a defibrillator, but were unable to revive her. An autopsy was conducted and full results have not yet been received.

State Police responded Monday to a 4 vehicle crash in the town of Union. Investigators determined that 3 vehicles were stopped in traffic when 58 year old Michele Drossos of Endicott rear ended a Toyota driven by 28 year old Ryan Freita of Endicott, who was pushed into a GMC SUV driven by 63 year old Charles Mann of Endicott, which was pushed into a pick-up truck operated by 45 year old Joshua Malloy-Buczek of Endicott. 2 people were transported to Wilson Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, Drossos was ticketed and faces court action at a later date.
The State Department of Health is urging eligible New Yorkers to get the seasonal flu vaccine, following new federal statistics showing severe complications in children, last year there were 26 pediatric influenza-associated deaths reported statewide. Pediatric flu deaths have been increasing year over year from 3 deaths in the 2021-22 season, up to last year's 26, More information about the influenza vaccine is available at health.ny.gov.

The Chenango County Board of Supervisors signed an agreement with Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services or "CARS" of Ithaca, to comply with federal and state regulations, Chenango County Attorney Zachary Wentworth explains:

Wentworth said that in 2023 The State Legislature passed the law that requires individuals in a correctional facility be given their opioid use disorder drug of choice. Methadone is a pain management and opioid addiction treatment drug, that has been used for decades for fighting addiction.

2 people were arrested following a traffic stop in Norwich regarding a stolen motorcycle, that led to a chase that ended in Unadilla. Norwich Police had attempted a traffic stop, the driver, Cody McCrady of Chenango Forks & passenger, Nichole Wiggins of Greene, fled. The pair were taken into custody in Unadilla. The investigation revealed that the Motorcycle was stolen from Manlius and the license plates were reported stolen from Johnson City. McCrady was charged with Reckless Endangerment, Criminal possession of stolen property, & criminal possess of a controlled substance, Wiggins was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Wiggins was released on an appearance ticket, McCrady was being for arraignment.

Chenango County Public Health reported 3 new COVID cases today, they have 71 Active Cases, 261 Active Quarantines & 6 are hospitalized. They have had 3369 COVID cases.  Chenango County reported 2 more COVID deaths this morning, bringing their total to 76.
The New York State Sheriffs' Association elected Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond as Secretary of the New York State Sheriffs' Association.  Sheriff DuMond will work with Sheriffs around the state to further the efforts of the Sheriffs' Association to enhance public safety in New York State through professional training and accreditation programs, public safety programs, and advocacy.
Jeff Idelson has been appointed as Interim President of the Hall of Fame through August 15, 2021. Idelson, who served as the Hall of Fame’s President from 2008-2019, begins in this role on Saturday, May 15.   Hall of Fame President Tim Mead announced that he would be leaving the organization this month, two years after succeeding Idelson in that role.

State Police have arrested 41 year old Jeremie Hoyt and 43 year old Peleg Booth, both of Davenport on numerous charges after an investigation into child pornography.  On April 28, State Police, their BCI Unit and the Computer Crimes Unit executed a search warrant in the town of Davenport after a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.   Hoyt and Booth are accused of engaging in sexual acts with a child less than the age of 15, Hoyt is also accused of possessing and promoting images of child pornography.   Hoyt was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $250,000 bond, Booth was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on no bail.  The investigation is on-going.

Former Cooperstown teacher Justin Hobbie pleaded guilty to 3
counts of sexual exploitation of a child.
Hobbie was accused of persuading girls under the age of 16 of sending
him explicit videos.  Hobbie will be
sentenced in December he will likely serve jail time & will be required to
register as a sex offender.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation strengthening protections
for minors against felony sex offenders. The law prevents minors from being
placed in the custody of an individual who has been convicted of rape in the
first or second degree, sexual conduct against a child in the first degree or
predatory sexual assault against a child, it also prevents sex offenders from
having unsupervised visits with a person who has been convicted of a felony
sexual offense against the subject of the visitation order.
Over $64,000 has been awarded to Nonprofits by the Community
Foundation for South Central New York, for Capital Projects, Programs and
Operating Support.  Locally grants were
awarded to A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Crime Victims Assistance
Program Chenango Child Advocacy Center & the Valleyview Elementary School
$984 for a kindergarten alternative seating program helping students with
special needs maintain focus in the classroom
The 5th Annual Binghamton
Porchfest will be held on Sunday at various locations around Binghamton's West
Side.  163 musical performances will take
place on 53 residential porches, stoops, and yards across the historic Abel
Bennett Tract.  Performances are held

Governor Cuomo signed legislation allowing victims of
domestic violence to seek damages against individuals who fail to obey or
enforce an order of protection; expanding the eligibility for victim
compensation to victims of unlawful surveillance crimes who did not suffer a
physical injury and expanding the definition of "child victim" to
include children who witness a crime to ensure those children are eligible for
victim compensation and assistance.

$235,708 from the Community Foundation for South Central New York’s Community
Fund and special funds, in the spring 2019 competitive grant cycles.   Grants were awarded to the Chenango River
Theatre, Chenango United Way, Community Arts Organization of Oneonta, Cornell
Cooperative Extension in Delaware County, Deposit Lumberjack Festival, The
Place-Norwich, Unatego Central School District & the United Way of

Executives from the State Office of Victim Services &
the State Office of Children and Family Services  toured the new mobile Child Advocacy Center in
Delaware County Monday.   The Delaware
County mobile unit is 1 of 7 that will be delivered throughout the state this
summer and fall  & it is part of a
$4.45 million investment by the state to improve services for children who are
victims of physical or sexual abuse.  The
program is being funded through a partnership between the State Office of
Victim Services and the State Office of Children and Family Services.

State Primary Elections are being held today, with Polls
will be open from 12:00 noon to 9:00 PM.
Republican Primaries will be held in Delaware County for Sidney Town
Clerk between incumbent Lisa French & Sheila Paul, Primaries will also be
held for Hancock Superintendent of Highways & a Stamford Town Council. In
Chenango County, Republican Primary races include Norwich Mayor between
Christine Carnrike & Shawn Sastri, and North Norwich Town Supervisor
between Timothy Brown & Robert Wansor.
The Chenango County Department of Public Works announced
that County Road 32 will undergo Hot Mix Asphalt paving today Between State
Route 320 and State Route 12 in the towns of Norwich AND North Norwich.  The traveling public is asked to find

The Warwick Rhode Island School district came under fire
earlier this week, after they announced that students with school lunch debts
would be served cold sunbutter & jelly sandwiches.  Chobani CEO Hamdi Ulukaya announced that his
company would pay off the lunch debt, estimated at $77,000 dollars covering
about 1650 children in the district.

State Police responded to a 2 vehicle crash on State Route 7 in the town of Unadilla. An investigation determined that 92 year old Joseph Norton of Sidney was driving a Chevrolet Impala, eastbound on State Route 7 when he entered a sharp curve in the roadway and drifted into the westbound lane & struck a dump truck driven by 38 year old Jeffrey Haynes of Sidney head on. Norton was deceased at the scene. Haynes was airlifted to Albany Medical Center and was listed in critical condition. Haynes passenger, 40 year old Jackie Ryan of Mt. Upton was transported to Wilson Hospital and is in stable condition. An autopsy will be conducted at Lourdes hospital, the investigation is ongoing.
Governor Cuomo announced that 26 state-approved Child Advocacy Centers will share more than $4 million to enhance services provided to children who are victims of crime. The centers are located across New York State and will use the funding to offset the cost of purchasing and installing video recording equipment, as well as hiring specially trained staff to interview young victims of sexual and physical abuse. In the Southern Tier, funding was designated to the Crime Victims Assistance Center for two centers, one in Broome County, one in Chenango County, totaling $118,097

Firefighters from Norwich, North Norwich & Sherburne responded to a vehicle fire on State route 12 between North Norwich & Sherburne, yesterday afternoon. A Pepperidge farms delivery truck was in flames when fire fighters arrived shortly after 12:00 Noon Wednesday, Chenango county fire investigators reported that the vehicle had broken down, was towed to a rest area, when a mechanic ruptured a gas line. The vehicle was totally destroyed, no injuries were report, and no tickets were issued.
The next meeting of the Oneonta Downtown revitalization Initiative Planning Committee will be held next Tuesday, at the Foothills Performing Arts center on the 2nd floor. The meeting will run from 1:00 to 3:00 PM & is open to the public and there will be a period for public comments.
Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting was Elected 2nd Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of the New York State Sheriffs' Association, at the 83rd Annual Winter Training Conference last week in Albany. Sheriff Cutting will work with Sheriffs around the state, to further the efforts of the Sheriffs' Association to enhance public safety in New York State through professional training and accreditation programs, public safety programs, and advocacy. The New York State Sheriffs' Association, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation, formed in 1934, for the purpose of assisting sheriffs in the efficient and effective delivery of services to the public.
Delaware County Deputies arrested 34-year-old Samantha Rich of Stamford for Endangering the Welfare of a Child; Rich is accused of letting a 7-year-old child smoke marijuana in her residence last summer. Rich was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Stamford Court on February 14th.
The Sidney Center Improvement Group most recent project was a fundraising campaign to install a new sign for the library. The Group Received the sign and installed it last week and will be hosting a ribbon cutting and reception at the library today, @ 4:00pm at the Sidney Center Library on Main Street.
