A new Siena Poll released on New Yorkers opinion of Governor Cuomo, shows that 23% said he should resign immediately, 39% say he should serve out his term but not seek re-election, and 33% say he should continue to serve and run for re-election.  35% said they would vote to re-elect Cuomo for another term, 56% would prefer someone else.  Voters approve of Cuomo’s handling of the pandemic, 51-32%, on managing vaccines 66-20%, keeping New Yorkers informed (60-27%), and reopening the state 54 to 33%.

The State Senate passed bills to protect clean water, & calls for testing for emerging contaminants in drinking water across the state.  The Senate's action comes as Siena College publishes a new poll revealing that 64% of New Yorkers are "very concerned" about water pollution in New York.  Approximately 2,000 small water utilities in New York have not tested for potentially harmful chemicals like strontium, chromium-6, and many other toxic chemicals.

while his job performance got an even bigger boost in the latest Siena poll
released this morning before the budget presentation.  New Yorkers are still 49% favorable rating
with a 45% unfavorable, which improves the rating of 44% in favor & 49%

new Siena College Poll of registered New York voters found that the majority of
New Yorkers say Governor Cuomo has made the state a better place since he took
office in 2011, the poll also found that his favorability and job performance
ratings currently match record lows.  New
York voters said Cuomo has improved the state by a 51 to 39% margin,  but his favorability ratings of 43% negative
and 50% positive matches his lowest ratings, his job performance rating of 34%
positive and 64% negative is his lowest ever.

A Time Warner Cable/ Siena College poll released Tuesday shows Republican John Faso holding a 1% lead over Democrat Zephyr Teachout in the race for the 19th Congressional District. A Siena College poll released this week shows that 92% of polled New Yorkers believe that corruption in state government is a serious problem. 51% believe it's very serious, & believe that more needs to be done to stop Albany Corruption. Governor Cuomo's own ethics push includes new disclosure requirements for lawmakers as well as requiring receipts for travel expenses. Cuomo is attaching the measures to spending in the budget and said he's fine with risking an on-time budget to get ethics done. However, 53% prefer an on time budget to ethics reforms getting done immediately, while 37% want ethics reforms tackled first, even if it means a late state budget in April.

New Yorkers oppose giving the state Legislature its first raise since 1999, and they remained split over whether the state should have moved forward with hydraulic fracturing, according to a Siena College poll. Voters oppose a legislative pay raise, 63 to 28%. Despite voters being evenly split upstate, the state's tough gun-control law called the SAFE Act was supported, 58 to 33% statewide. Voters were also evenly divided on the Dream Act that would provide tuition assistance to illegal immigrants, with 44% supporting it and 48% opposing it. Governor Cuomo had a 58% to 37% favorability rating, up slightly from October.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation opening the door for growing and researching industrial hemp in New York. The bill, introduced by Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, creates an agriculture pilot program to study ways to cultivate and manufacture products with the multi-use crop. It passed both houses of the State Legislature in the spring. Colleges and universities, including Cornell, Binghamton University, may take part in New York's research program.

After 3 straight months of gains, consumer confidence in New York fell sharply in July, according to the latest poll from the Siena Research Institute.  New York’s index of consumer sentiment fell 5.3 points to 73.5 in July, nationwide the rate fell 0.7 points to 81.8.  51% of New Yorkers said gas prices are having a serious impact, 67% indicate that groceries was also a serious impact on their finances.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation to strengthen precautions against residential off campus housing fires, requiring written and bolded notice to prospective tenants of whether or not a particular home has a fire sprinkler system.  The law follows a January 2012 fire in which Marist College student Kerry Rose Fitzsimons & 2 others died in a fire in an off-campus housing unit. The law also necessitates colleges and universities provide written fire safety information to each student living in a college-owned facility.

While voters in the Southern Tier support casino development, the majority of residents would not frequent a new gambling parlor once it's up and running, according to a Time Warner Cable News/Siena College poll. Southern Tier voters support casino development, 45 to 36%, 57% of the same voters said they would not likely frequent their region's casino. The Gaming Commission said the casino applicants would make presentations in front of the Gaming Facility Location Board on Sept. 8th and 9th in Albany. Public hearings are scheduled for Sept. 22 to 24th.
Empire State Development has approved SUNY Broome Community College's plan for the START-UP NY economic development initiative, which establishes tax-free business areas around college campuses. SUNY Oneonta has made Forbes magazine's ranking of America's Top Colleges. The State University College at Oneonta was ranked 167th in the Northeast and 520th overall on the annual list. Factors taken into consideration were student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt, graduation rate and academic success.
