In the Republican Primaries locally,New York's 19th Congressional District, Peter Oberacker won the Republican primary, advancing to the November general election to face incumbent Josh Riley, in the 51st State Senate Republican Primary, Chris Tague was the winner, for Otsego County Sheriff, Incumbent Rich Devlin & Mike Stalter were in a virtual tie with some votes still to be counted, In Afton, Town Supervisor John Lawrence wins the Republican Primary.

47 year old Eric Rossman of Stamford appeared in the Town of Harpersfield Court Monday & pleaded guilty to 1 count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and 1 count of Conspiracy. In August of 2025, State Police received a report of stolen tools, at a residence located on Wood Road in Jefferson, it was determined that the stolen tools had previously been moved from a house in Harpersfield. Rossman admitted that he did not originally know that the tools were stolen, as he had put his initials on many of them, Once he was aware that they were stolen, he and one co-defendant moved to evade law enforcement. Rossman was sentenced to 1 year of incarceration to be followed by a one-year conditional discharge.

Delaware County has continued to transition operations of the senior meals program after Delaware Opportunities abruptly ceased operating on May 7th. Delaware County Office for the Aging has supported Senior meals both at congregate meal sites and through home meal deliveries. Congregate meal sites are now fully staffed and operational in Delhi, Hancock, Walton & Grand Gorge, the Margaretville senior meals dining center is open and located back in the Margaretville Methodist Church. The Sidney senior dining center has been temporarily relocated to the Sidney Community Cultural Center at 1 Bridge Street in Sidney, today that site will be operational to serve meals on site and prepare meals for home delivery. The County continues to work with the owners of the Sidney Senior Housing site to permanently relocate senior meals back to the senior nutrition site at 21 Liberty Street Sidney. Those interested in county employment, contact the Delaware County personnel office to inquire about these positions.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office announce that a new labor agreement has been reached with Corrections Union, the Otsego County Board of Representatives approved a new contract for the men and women of the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division, making the Sheriff’s Office comparable to surrounding County agencies.
The Otsego County Solid Waste Department will host the 21st Earth Festival event from 10 am. to 3 pm. Saturday, at SUNY Oneonta, in the Chase Auditorium. Events include educational workshops, the repair Café, and activities for children, seed exchange, and a morning bird walk. County Officials will be there promoting recycling and waste diversion practices that the county has developed over the years for residents of the county.

The Binghamton Police Department & the Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that after the death of 45 year old Peter Bennedum Friday at an area Hospital, the investigation is now being handled as a homicide. The 4 juveniles were previously charged with Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree, the charges have been amended to 2nd degree Murder, they are housed at a juvenile detention facility and are scheduled to appear in Broome County Court at a later date to be arraigned on the new charge. Additionally, the 13-year-old suspect was located and arrested at an address in Whitney Point, and has also been charged with 2nd degree Murder and was also sent to a juvenile detention facility in Syracuse, New York. The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 24 year old Alexander Woeppel of Cooperstown, for Criminal Mischief, DWI, reckless Driving and numerous related charges following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Milford. Woeppel was located at the scene and was found to be Intoxicated, he initially crashed into a parked vehicle, then into a private garage, he was released on appearance Tickets for town of Milford court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 55 year old Donald Lane for Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Bail Jumping as well as on 2 Warrants, Lane was located by a Deputy in Oneonta, he had failed to appear in court for sentencing on previous felony charges, he failed to comply with verbal commands and attempted to flee on foot, he was apprehended & physically resisted arrest. Lane was then turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await arraignment, he was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional facility without bail.
Norwich City Police arrested 21 year old Brayden Pollock of Plymouth along with a Juvenile, in connection to the damage at Angelino Fields on Borden Avenue on May 2nd. Norwich Police determine that both individuals came in separate vehicles & damaged property, amounting to about $2,500 in damages. Both were charged with Criminal Mischief, Pollock was issued an appearance ticket for Norwich City Court, the juvenile was ordered to return to Youth Court at a later date.

The Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center is now open and it will be one of only 12 such centers in New York State, they provide on-site care for people experiencing mental health or substance use crises, offering stabilization services for up to 24 hours. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Warren McKee of Milford for Dissemination of Indecent Material to Minors, following an investigation in to a report of a suspect engaging in sexual online communications with a subject he believed to be a juvenile. Investigation revealed that McKee utilized text messaging and instant messaging from a social media platform to solicit sex from the juvenile. McKee was located at his residence and taken in to custody without incident, he was processed and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Milford Court at a later date.

State Police Responded early this morning to 1092 County Road 37 in Mount Upton for a report of a plow truck that struck a house. An investigation determined that a Chenango County Highway Department plow was traveling west on County Road 37 salting the roadway when due to slick road conditions, the plow truck lost traction going up the hill. The plow truck rolled back down the hill while the operator attempted to regain control of the plow truck but was unable to and damaged a trailer, fence, road sign then struck the house. The accident led to the Gilberstville Mount Upton School District cancelling classes today, No injuries were reported.

Attorney General Letitia James released a statement as New federal rules now require many New Yorkers without dependents to meet work or activity requirements to keep their SNAP benefits, effective on March 1st, following the end of a longstanding statewide waiver. The requirements apply to people aged 18 to 64 who do not have a child under 14, who are not pregnant or caring for someone who cannot care for themselves, and do not have a disability that prevents them from working. James said that she advised SNAP recipients to watch for communications from State or local officials and to contact their local social services office if they believe they qualify for an exemption or need help meeting the requirements. State Department of Transportation released the state Highway Bridge statistics for each county, which includes when it was built, last inspected and what waterway it crosses, Delaware County had 16 of 448 bridges in poor condition, Otsego County had 26 out of 266 bridges in poor shape & in Chenango County a total of 15 out of 257 bridges were determined to be in poor condition. During the latest winter snowstorm, members of the State Police in Troop C responded to a total of 76 weather-related events between Sunday and the early morning hours TODAY. Otsego County Sheriff's office arrested 58 year old David Hand of Morris for 2nd degree Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Tampering with Physical Evidence & Concealing a Corpse, for the murder of 71 year old Lynn Barton of Morris. On November 8th, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Barton's family, they had not had contact with Barton for more than 2 days. Deputies checked the residence, Barton was not present, the Investigation led to County Route 49 to interview Hand, who was the last known person to have contact with Mr. Barton, he directed deputies to an area behind a vacant building where Barton was deceased, his body was removed for an autopsy, the manner of death was a gunshot wound to the head. Hand was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail.

State Forest Rangers & the Otsego County Sheriff's Office conducted a Wilderness Search On December 25 at 6:18 pm., the Sheriff’s Office called for assistance in the search for a patient who jumped out of an ambulance. The ambulance was transporting the 47-year-old unidentified Unadilla resident from Fox Hospital to Bassett Medical Center, Ambulance personnel pursued the patient but lost sight near Walnut and Linden Streets, they searched a wooded area, about 5 hours later, a civilian notified Rangers that someone was pounding on the front door of a house on Linden Street, a Deputy found the patient sitting at the bus stop shelter and drove the patient to the hospital.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Christopher Decker of Unadilla, following the report of a domestic dispute. Decker was charged with Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, Unlawful Imprisonment, Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Harassment. Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a law banning online sweepstakes casinos in New York, which are sites that let people play casino-like games with virtual coins that could be traded for cash or prizes. The new law not only outlaws these online casino-like games, it also prohibits companies that support them, like payment processors and advertisers. Penalties can reach up to $100,000 per violation. New York now joins New Jersey, California, Connecticut, Montana, and Nevada, in the ban of those online activities.

Governor Hochul today announced that 8.2 million checks have now been mailed to eligible New Yorkers under the state’s first-ever Inflation Refund Check program. Public Meeting #1 for the Otsego Lake Watershed Protection Plan will be held Today, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. at Glimmerglass State Park in the Lakeview Pavilion, at County Road 31, Cooperstown. The public meeting will provide an overview of the planning process and the desired outcome of the Watershed Protection Plan. A community survey will be launched during the public meeting and will be available for at least one month to gather additional input from the community. The Department of State provided funding to develop a Plan that identifies water quality threats and recommends local actions to safeguard the resource. Water quality in Otsego Lake is changing because of climate change, invasive species, and harmful inputs to the lake, the plan will identify causes of the degrading water quality and define specific actions to protect the lake and watershed.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer met with Oneonta Job Corps students and staff Thursday, Schumer explained that the Trump administration is targeting Job Corps centers for closure & completely eliminate funding for the program. Schumer said the Senate Appropriations Committee has passed a bipartisan bill out of committee that protects funding for Job Corps for next year, and now is calling on the House to follow suit. 31 year old Dustin Cole of Rotterdam pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Sell, and was sentenced to 4 years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision.
