The Wakeman Coffee Company and Muddy River Farm Brewery have partnered to host the first annual Sidney Brew-to-Brew 5K road race at 11 AM on Saturday, September 6th, spokesperson Colleen McKinney explains:

Registration costs $25 now through August 30 and will increase on August 31. Proceeds from the race will benefit two great local non-profit organizations; The Uplift Collective, of Sidney Center, a nonprofit dedicated to children and families facing a significant health crisis, and The Delaware Valley Humane Society, which provides shelter and compassionate care for homeless animals.

An Audit by the State Comptroller's Office found that the state Department of Health is not adequately overseeing adult care facilities, they failed to conduct timely inspections and lacked documentation to show critical problems were corrected. 18% of allegations had no evidence they were investigated. a few did not have evidence of any plans for an investigation at all. The Binghamton Police Department have released the names of the 2 people who died in a 3 car wreck Monday afternoon at the Court Street construction site in the City's East End. The deceased operator of a Sedan was 49 year old Safwan Aziz of Binghamton, the deceased operator of the SUV was 71 year old Rafael Cuadra of Susquehanna, Pennsylvania , the unidentified driver of the 3rd vehicle suffered only minor injuries.

19 year old Payton Gendron of Conklin pleaded guilty today to various charges, for the May shooting at the Buffalo TOPS Supermarket, killing 10 black people & injuring 3 others. Gendron pleaded guilty to murder, murder as a hate crime and hate-motivated domestic terrorism, which carries an automatic sentence of life without parole. Gendron admitted in court that he killed the people because of their race, he still faces federal charges relating to the same attack.

The Bainbridge American Legion VA Clinic will be closing on December 1st, & Area Veterans can go to the Binghamton VA Clinic at 203 Court Street, or the the new VA Clinic located at the Fox Care Center, in Oneonta. The Binghamton Police Department announced the arrested of 28 year old Justin Williams of Greenville North Carolina in connection with a fatal shooting at 58 Floral Avenue Tuesday morning. Williams was charged with 2nd degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon for the shooting death of 31-year-old Victor Texidor of Binghamton. Williams was stopped by a Pennsylvania State Trooper who spotted Williams Vehicle on Interstate 81 near Gibson. Williams was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail. Anyone with information is asked to contact Binghamton detectives at 607-772-7080.

Catholic Charities announced another Community Mass Food Distribution on May 24th at 11:00 AM at the River Street Fire Station in Sidney, spokesperson Penny McKnight told WCDO News that volunteers are needed on the 24th:

The Primaries for governor and the state Assembly are still scheduled for June. A state judge and an independent expert are now drawing up new maps, which were ordered after a judge ruled that Democrats gerrymandered the maps to get more representation & ordered new maps be drawn.

The Great New York State Fair will ban outdoor smoking except in designated areas starting this summer. Smoking is already prohibited inside buildings on the fairgrounds and at the Chevy Court and Chevy Park venues. The new policy only covers the NYS Fair, and smoking rules for non-fair events may vary.

State Police responded to a train derailment parallel to State Route 17 in Deposit early Thursday morning. The train was traveling in a westbound direction from New Jersey to Binghamton, heavy rainfall and flooding caused a small section of the NY Southern Railroad line to erode at a culvert overpass making the tracks impassible. The train was hauling 59 cars and 4 locomotives, 16 of them derailed, 2 of the locomotives were leaking diesel fuel into the west branch Delaware River tributary. All of the cargo remained intact and there was no danger to the public. As a precaution, four trailers and one single family residence were evacuated but the residents were told they could return. There were no injuries & Cleanup efforts continue.

120 cars participated in the Great Race, which made a lunch stop at the Northeast Classic car Museum Sunday afternoon. The participants started out the day in Buffalo, stopped in Norwich where crowds of people turned out to see the wide variety of cars, before they department for their next stop in Troy. Broome County Sheriff’s Department arrested 33 year old Emerson Ryan of Binghamton after a patrolling deputy observed a vehicle at 71 miles an hour in a posted 45 mile an hour zone. The vehicle accelerated and then lost control on a curve, crashing into the ditch. Ryan was charges with DWI, Driving with a BAC of .08% or higher, reckless driving & speed not reasonable & prudent, among other charges. Ryan was released and issued tickets to return to the Town of Kirkwood court at a later date.

Jabari Ashe of Binghamton was sentenced to 25 years to life in Prison in Broome County Court for the fatal shooting of Tyquan Gumbs in Binghamton on April 28th of 2017. Ashe was charged with 2nd degree murder, he was found guilty in Broome County Court recently following a 3 day trial.
The Great Race is stopping at the Northeast Classic Car Museum for their Lunch Stop on Sunday. 120 vintage race cars will fill the 3 blocks in front of the museum, an Opening ceremony will be at noon, followed by cars coming in at a rate of one a minute for 2 hours. Rexford Street will be closed to the public Sunday, so the racers can come in and park their cars on the street. The public is welcome. The Ed Wessels Canoe regatta was held Saturday, with over 100 Paddlers competing in the 20-Mile Race, which runs from Otego, to Wells Bridge, Back to Otego & then finishing at Keith Clark Park in Sidney. The Men’s’ Pro Race was won by Canadians Steve Lajoie & Guillaume Blaise from Quebec. Blaise won the General Clinton Pro race last year with Matthew Pellerin of Quebec. Lajoie has won the Clinton 7 time with Andy Triebold of Michigan. Saturday’s 2nd place finishers were local paddlers Trevor LeFever & Ben Schlimmer of Oneonta. Saturday’s 1-man Pro winner was Pennsylvania resident Steve Rankinen. The Wessels race is considered a warm-up to this weekend’s 70-mile General Clinton Canoe Regatta Races from Cooperstown to Bainbridge; WCDO will provide complete coverage of the Clinton Races all weekend.

The Broome County Sheriff Department is investigating a fatal 2-vehicle car vs. motorcycle accident Monday afternoon. Deputies reported that a Jeep Cherokee, operated by 28 year old Adam Alexander of Afton, struck a motorcycle operated by 36 year old Jason Smith of Binghamton, at State Route 235 & State Route 7. Smith suffered traumatic injuries and was transported to Wilson Hospital where he died from his injuries. Alexander was chargedd with Vehicular Manslaughter & DWI, he was arraigned in Town of Colesville Court & he was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail.
The 2016 Great New York State Fair has generated the highest level of attendance in its 175-year history, shattering numerous records over the course of its twelve-day run. A record 1,096,524 visitors passed through the Fair's redesigned main gate, beating the previous record by about 85,000 over 2001.
The next meeting of the General Clinton Canoe Regatta Committee will be tonight in Bainbridge. Next year will be the 55th Regatta, committee members are asked to bring new ideas for next year, the Race meeting will begin at 6:30 & the regular meeting starts at 7:30 PM at Highway 7 Bar and Grill on Route 7 in Bainbridge.
William Canney of Binghamton was arrested Friday by Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Menacing of a Police Officer. The Sheriff’s Office and State Police responded to a shots fired complaint on Hotchkiss Road in the Town of Greene, Canney is alleged to have pointed a loaded shotgun at a deputy, who drew his weapon and was able to deescalate the situation without any shots fired. Canney was arraigned it the Town of Greene Court and ordered to the Chenango County Jail on $2000 bail and $5000 bond and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Greene Court at a later date.
