The City of Norwich Police Department arrested 28 year old Elijah Joyce of Norwich following an investigation, with assistance from the Chenango County Probation Department. Norwich Police Detectives developed intelligence that Joyce may have been in possession of an illegal firearm while on active probation. When members of the City of Norwich Police Department and Chenango County Probation tried to make contact with Joyce at a local business, he was brought to the ground rather swiftly and placed in handcuffs,  Officers recovered a 9mm handgun with approximately 20 rounds of hollow-point ammunition loaded in the magazines, as well as metal knuckles. Joyce was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail, pending further court proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional criminal charges will be filed from the City of Norwich Police Department as a result of the incident.


The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 61 year old Cathleen Mann of Burlington for 2nd Degree Grand Larceny and 57 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, following an investigation into a complaint in the Town of Maryland, where Mann is accused of writing fraudulent checks and unauthorized use of a debit card for an amount greater than $50,000, she was held for centralized arraignment and an order of protect was issued for the victim.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the re-opening of the State's Municipal Infrastructure Program Request for Applications, making up to $36 million available to support broadband infrastructure projects across the state through ConnectALL, which is the state’s broadband office. To date, the Municipal Infrastructure Program has funded $268 million to active projects in 24 counties that will build more than 2,300 miles of new fiber optic infrastructure and 68 new wireless hubs serving more than 96,000 homes and businesses around the state. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 year old Christopher Roettger of Worcester, for 1st degree Assault & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, following an investigation into a stabbing during a domestic incident. Roettger fled the scene and responding deputies located a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds inside the residence, who was taken to Bassett Hospital, Roettger returned to the scene to turn himself in, he was taken into custody without incident. Investigators applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence and the defendant’s vehicle where additional evidence was secured. The Otsego County District Attorney’s Office recommended that bail be set at $100,000 cash, Roettger was processed and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending Arraignment. An order of protection was requested on behalf of the victim. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit.


State Police responded to a 2-vehicle crash on Interstate 88 in the town of Sidney Friday Afternoon. A tractor trailer and a pick-up truck were traveling west when they made contact, The pick-up truck continued off the roadway. The tractor trailer exited the roadway and turned on its side. The operator of the pick-up truck, a 77-year-old male sustained injuries and was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center and is in stable condition. The operator of the tractor trailer, a 56-year-old male was transported to A.O Fox Hospital. Interstate 88 west was shut down to assist with the removal of the tractor trailer, Motorists were detoured at exit 10. Troopers were assisted by the New York State Department of Transportation with the closure. The investigation is on-going.


Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 43 year old Martin Planty of Walton for Forcible Touching, & Harassment, following an investigation of unwanted sexual contact. Planty was processed and transported to the Delaware County Jail to await Centralized Arraignment as the victim requested an Order of Protection.


Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Mathew O'Neill of Windsor with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident involving a boat and a tow truck in the Town of Colesville. On January 5, Responding deputies found a Ford Expedition smashed under a boat, with the rear of the boat pressed directly against the structure of a residence. The investigation revealed that O'Neill's vehicle left the road way and struck the parked boat, which collided with a residence and a tow truck parked nearby. No injuries were reported.

State Police will focus on impaired, distracted, and reckless driving, as wells as those violating the state's "Move Over" laws. & they will set up DUI checkpoints on highways all over the state.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced that scammers are impersonating the County Planning Department. Scammers are looking to collect money from zoning applicants, using county logos, actual application information, and the actual names of planning staff. The Otsego County Planning Department will never request or charge money for their review of a planning or zoning application. If you receive such a request, do not pay it.


State Police & Emergency squads responded to tractor trailer accidents earlier today. 1 Tractor Trailer rolled over in the westbound lane of I-88 Near Exit 1 this morning, which closed down a portion of the highway. Also at about 6:50 this morning, State Police responded to I-81 south in the town of Virgil for a crash involving 2 tractor trailers that both jack-knifed, 1 driver was taken to an area hospital with back pain, the highway was closed for over 5 hours for clean up & removal of the vehicles. Snowy road conditions contributed to both accidents.

Deposit Fire Department released more details about a fire on December 14, on North Sanford Road in the town of Sanford. Deposit, Eastern Broome Emergency Services and the Harpursville Fire Department were dispatched after a resident reported a smoke on the 2nd floor. the fire was quickly knocked down, it was determined that the fire started in the chimney of a wood burning stove and spread into the walls of the structure. Everyone was able to escape the residence uninjured. a 2nd alarm was requested with additional response from Afton, Windsor, Masonville & West Windsor.


The US Department of Justice announced the results of Operation Relentless Justice, a coordinated enforcement effort to identify, track, and arrest child sex predators. The nationwide crackdown resulted in over 205 child victims being located and the arrests of over 293 child sexual abuse offenders, including 6 in the upstate counties. The coordinated effort was executed over the course of 2 weeks by all 56 FBI field offices, the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section in the Department’s Criminal Division, and U.S. Attorneys’ offices around the country. The Department urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspected exploitation of a child through the FBI's tip-line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324), tips.fbi.gov.

45 year old Jeremiah Johnson was convicted on burglary charges in Broome County Court for Burglary. Johnson entered a dwelling with the intent to commit a crime around August 9th, in the Town of Union. During the incident and investigation, Johnson fled from Broome County Sheriff’s Office Deputies to prevent them from arresting him. Johnson will be sentenced to 8 years in Prison to be followed by 5 years of Post-Release Supervision.


The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is looking for 29 year old Charles Dieterich, he is wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Harpersfield Court, for 2nd degree assault, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest. Dieterich is described as a male standing 6 feet tall with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information about Dieterich’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office at (607) 832-5555 or submit a tip through the sheriff’s mobile application.


City of Oneonta Officials announced that Beginning next week (Monday–Wednesday), the contractor will install new street lighting in the area of the new roundabout at Main Street, Maple Street & The Lettis Highway. The following week, crews will complete electrical wiring and activate the lights. During this work, Main Street east from Grand Street and Lettis Highway south will be closed. There will also be short-term closures on Main Street west through the roundabout and Maple Street entering the roundabout. Posted detours will be in place, and all traffic will be restored once work is complete. Additional minor traffic disruptions are expected throughout January as rapid flashing beacons are installed at crosswalks and remaining signage is completed.

51 year old Timothy Hoose of Berkshire, was found guilty of Grand Larceny following a jury trial in Broome County Court. The conviction stems from criminal conduct between September 2023, and January 2024, in the Town of Windsor, where Hoose, doing business as H&H Contracting, entered into a construction contract with the victim to build a garage structure on the victim’s property, the victim paid a $15,000 down payment, Hoose illegally used over $3,000 of those funds for purposes unrelated to the project. Sentencing is scheduled for March 18, 2026, in Broome County Court, Hoose faces up to 7 years in State Prison.


Governor Hochul has reached a deal with state legislative leaders to approve a bill to give terminally ill people the legal ability to end their own lives with prescribed medication. New York’s Medical Aid in Dying Act requires that a terminally ill person who is expected to die within 6 month make a written request for life-ending drugs, 2 witnesses will be needed to sign the request, which would then have to be approved by the person’s attending physician as well as a consulting physician. The Governor will sign the bill into law next year.

A Federal Court Jury returned a guilty verdict against ANTHONY WALLACE of the Bronx, for kidnapping a minor, coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in illegal sex, transportation of a minor across state lines to engage in illegal sex, and possession and production of child pornography. In March 2024, Wallace met a 15-year-old girl in Binghamton, he subjected the Minor Victim to escalating physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, forced her to disguise her appearance by dyeing her hair and wearing a mask, gave the Minor Victim methamphetamine and marijuana, & created child pornography of the Minor Victim, in Binghamton, which was found on his phone. Wallace later brought the victim across State Lines and then back to his Bronx apartment where he assaulted & raped her, she escaped the apartment & contacted police. Wallace faces multiple lengthy jail terms for the convictions.


The US Marines announced that their Toys for Tots New York Holiday Train will go through the Southern Tier this Saturday, starting at the East Binghamton Yard, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, it will then head to Bainbridge at the Walnut Avenue Crossing, at about 11:50 AM, there will be free donuts, hot chocolate, kids' activities, music, giveaways, and more. The train will also stop at the Gas Avnue crossing in Oneonta, before heading for Cobleskill, and Delanson Saturday afternoon.


Governor Kathy Hochul announced the award of more than $32 million to help local governments enhance safety on their roads by reducing instances of vehicles inadvertently straying from their lanes and lessening the severity of crashes. The funding is part of the State DOT's “Safe System” approach toward zero highway deaths and will support roadway improvements; Locally, in Otsego County, the Towns of Hartwick and Middlefield, will receive $700,000 to install guide rail on County Road 11. In New York State, 44 percent of crash fatalities occur when a vehicle departs from its lane.

A Windsor man is facing felony charges after attempting to break into a residence and being tracked down in the snow by Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies in the Town of Chenango. On Tuesday evening, Road Patrol responded to a burglar alarm on Russell Road, members noticed that the back door of the residence had been forced open, they eventually found footprints in the snow, they found 42 year old Scott Evanchof of Windsor wearing boots that matched the footprints, he admitted that he attempted to break into the residence & was charged with Burglary & Criminal Mischief, he was arraigned Following arraignment, Evanchof was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, where he is currently in custody.

Several Area Fire Departments responded to a Chimney Fire at 9 Ceperley Avenue in Oneonta early this morning. The Fire was reported shortly before 4:30 AM this morning, with fire on the 1st & 2nd floor, coming through the roof, mutual aid was received by the Oneonta Fire Department from West Oneonta, Worcester, Sidney, Franklin, Milford, Laurens & Otego, at about 5:30 AM, the Fire knocked down, the investigation into the cause of the fire in ongoing.


New York State funding was allocated to improve facilities and response capabilities for volunteer fire departments around the state. Locally, the Oxford Fire Department will receive up to $1,000,000 to improve their facilities


The Chenango County Sheriff's Office added 2 new deputies following their graduation from the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy. Deputies Tanner Franklin and Michael Smith completed the Basic Police Academy program, followed by a six-week field training course, prior to last Friday's Ceremony.

56 year old Claude Manon of Margaretville, was sentenced to 6 months of incarceration to be followed by 5 years of probation supervision for Grand Larceny. Manon was accused of stealing over $3,000 in cash from a home he was doing work in on February 1, 2024, in the Town of Middletown, if Manon violates the terms of his probation, he faces one and a third to four years in State Prison.


Otsego County Officials announced that they have a State of Emergency due to current drought conditions adversely affecting the water supply in the county, which increases the risk of wildfires. Otsego County residents are prohibited from burning any combustible materials outside, and they are prohibited in engaging in any activities that could allow for flames or sparks that could result in a wildfire. The Emergency order is in effect until November 2nd.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Kyle Packer of Edmeston following an investigation of a violation of a Court Order of Protection. Packer was charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree Burglary plus 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, where Packer is accused of entering the premises and violating a stay away order of protection, he was also found to have left 2 voicemails for the protected party, he was being held at the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.

State Police, the Office of Cannabis Management, the Department of Tax and Finance & local law enforcement, have deployed 150 investigators to inspect, reinspect, padlock, and seize products from of illegal cannabis storefronts. Since May 21st, More than 700 inspections, resulting in 7,485 pounds of illegal cannabis seized, 345 stores were padlocked and 596 Notices of Violation issued. One of the stores was Sidney Exotic on Main Street, There are currently 166 legitimate adult-use retail dispensaries across the Empire State.


State Police arrested 23 year old Brandon Fancher of Cobleskill, last week, for DWI, in Oneonta. While on roving patrol during a DWI Sobriety Checkpoint, a Sergeant observed a vehicle speeding on Main Street in Oneonta and made a traffic stop, the Sergeant smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed other characteristics associated with impairment. Fancher failed a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, he was arrested, he was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Oneonta Town Court on September 3rd.


Walmart has recalled nearly 10,000 cases of apple juice sold in stores across the U.S. that were found to contain potentially harmful levels of inorganic arsenic. The recall applies to 9,535 cases of Great Value brand apple juice sold in 25 states, including New York State, as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Florida-based manufacturer Refresco Beverages voluntarily recalled the contaminated 6-packs of 8-ounce juice bottles after discovering levels of the chemical contaminant that exceeded industry standards.

State Police responded to Otsego County Road 23 and Wing Hill Road in the town of Exeter Friday Afternoon for a two vehicle crash. A 4 door sedan was making a left turn on a sharp curve onto Wing Hill Road when the driver did not see an SUV from the opposite direction, The vehicles collided and both caught fire, A passerby with a fire extinguisher assisted in getting a family out of the sedan and another person assisted the driver of the SUV out of their vehicle. 3 LifeNet helicopters responded to the area. 3 children & the driver of the sedan; Nicole Rinaldo of Ilion were transported to various hospitals, The driver of the SUV, 52 year old Michael Salon of Herkimer, was transported by helicopter to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.


State Police Troop “C” Traffic Incident Management unit in partnership with the Department of Transportation held an Operation Hard Hat enforcement in Windsor along State Highway 17 east between exits 78 and 79. In just over four hours, 75 tickets were issued, 58 for Speeding, including 1 person was observed and ticketed for traveling 92 mph in the 55 mph active work zone.


Otsego County Sheriff's office arrested 41 year old Justin Ingalls of Milford for Reckless Endangerment of Property, Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, Trespassing & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, following an investigation following an incident at Apple Foods Store in Milford. Ingalls was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility.


2 people escaped a fire in Laurens Saturday afternoon, after a passerby reported the blaze to authorities, at 299 Crawford Road. Firefighters from Laurens & West Laurens responded, the 2 occupants were not injured, The fire is under investigation.

State Police, State EnCon Officers, State Forest Rangers, New Berlin Police, Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies, the Susquehanna SPCA as well as the Office of Emergency Management served a search warrant at properties located on Clark Lane and Pig Farm Lane in the town of New Berlin. Over 2 dozen animals were located deceased and an additional 107 neglected animals were removed, which included horses, swine, cattle, sheep, goats, a llama, plus dogs and cats. The Investigation is continuing.


Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 56 year old Daniel Erickson of Greene, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Luring a Child, which was the top charge of the Indictment against him. Between June 28, 2023, and July 7, 2023, Erickson communicated with a 16-year-old student through Snapchat, for the purpose of luring the victim into a vehicle with the intention to engage in sexual acts. Broome County Sheriff's Office Detectives were able to apprehend Erickson before he made any physical contact with the victim. Erickson was fired from his position as a Middle School Principal in the Johnson City School District, he will be sentenced on July 30th to 6 months in jail, followed by 5 years’ of probation supervision, he was ordered to pay restitution to the victim, & he must register as a sex offender to the state's registry. Erickson will appear back in Broome County Court on May 6th for the purpose of turning himself in to begin serving the jail time.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Scott Hanrahan of Sanford for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of an Assault Weapon & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On Saturday Broome County Sheriff’s Road Patrol conducted a traffic stop on Route I-86 West in the Town of Windsor, deputies located cocaine, along with various assault weapons & multiple rounds of ammunition, Hanrahan had previous felony convictions & is facing new charges for illegal weapon and drug possession following the traffic stop. Hanrahan was arraigned at Central Arraignment Part and remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.


The Binghamton Police Department arrested 6 people following a shooting at 100 Susquehanna Street on Saturday. Police arrested 20 year old Lamont Weaver of Binghamton with criminal possession of a weapon & reckless endangerment, 25 year old Lytiek Gadson of Binghamton for tampering with physical evidence, 18 year old India Tombs of Binghamton with obstructing governmental administration, 2 underage teenagers were also arrested. Weaver was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County jail, the rest were released & the investigations is continuing.

Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that Dylan Shoemaker of Colesville was sentenced to 12 years to life for 2nd degree Assault in Broome County Court. On February 6, 2023, State Troopers responded to Shoemaker’s residence in Nineveh for a domestic incident. Shoemaker punched a Trooper while being placed into custody, resulting in injury of that Trooper.


The Harpursville Fire Department responded to a fire Saturday at 329 Hartz Road in the Town of Colesville. Harpursville Firefighters were assisted at the scene by firefighters from Windsor, West Windsor, Deposit, Masonville, Greene, Afton, Port Crane & several other departments responded, firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading, there was mostly smoke & water damage.


Attorney General Letitia James kicked off National Consumer Protection Week by releasing a list of the top 10 consumer complaints received by the Office in 2023. Over 5500 complaints were made regarding retail establishments, over 3900 were about landlord tenant issues, over 3500 were complaints about auto sales & service, over 3200 were about banking institutions, and over 2500 were regarding internet security issues.


State DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos announced that he will step down from that position after serving for 8 1/2 years. Seggos is the longest-serving DEC Commissioner in State history, he will step down on April 1st.


Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 54-year-old Thomas Burrows Jr. of Manhattan on a Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Stamford Court. Burrows was being held in the Delaware County Correctional Facility on an unrelated charge at the time of his arrest. This warrant was issued due to Burrows’s failure to appear in court in connection with a charge of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Burrows was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 secured bond.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash that killed a Walton Couple Tuesday. Raymond & Joan Light of Walton were killed in the crash on Franklin Depot Road, they were pronounced dead at the scene, the investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.


30 year old Charles Walsh of Sidney was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, he is accused of possessing fentanyl & Methamphetamine with intent to sell, as well as for having packaging materials in order to package & sell controlled substances. Walsh could face up to 14 years in state prison and 5 years of additional post release supervision.


51 year old Kim Kraemer of Margaretville was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury for Driving While Ability Impaired by a Combination of Drugs and Alcohol & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, for driving a motor vehicle under the combined influence of drugs and alcohol while in the Town of Delhi on August 28, 2023, if convicted, she faces the maximum sentence of 1 and 1/3 to 4 years in state prison.


The National Weather Service reports that a tornado touched down in the Town of Chenango in Broome County on February 28, at around 5:00 PM. The tornado was rated an EF-1, with winds around 100 MPH.


4 goats were killed in an early Saturday Morning barn fire in Edmeston. Firefighters arrived to find the barn fully engulfed at 5526 Highway 18, no injuries were reported to firefighters, the fire was ruled as accidental.

A man was arrested Thursday afternoon after he fired a shotgun in the parking area of an Albany synagogue. No one was injured during the incident at the Temple Israel and the suspect was an unidentified 28-year-old man, who was quickly arrested, he made "threatening statements," during the incident. Police said that an early childhood center with at least two dozen preschoolers were on the premises. The parents were contacted, the facility went immediately into lockdown, Federal law enforcement is currently leading the investigation.


The Sidney Center Improvement Group will hold their annual "Holidays In The Hamlet" Saturday, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Sidney Center Fire Station. Children can get their pictures taken with Santa, a canned food donation is requested for the food pantry.

Deposit Fire Department responded Wednesday morning at about 4:00 AM to a house fire in the Town of Sanford. A motorist stopped at a house along North Sanford Road and told a resident about the fire in the woods down the road. Arriving crews found a house and garage fully involved, which led to a brush fire. Investigators believe that the fire started long before it was reported, both the house & garage were destroyed. The fire is still under investigation. Deposit Fire fighters were assisted by the Harpursville, Windsor, West Windsor, Afton Fire Departments, Broome Ambulance, State Police, with Masonville Fire Department covering the Deposit district during the incident.

State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested 32 year old Boyd Fenton of Athens, Pennsylvania after a fire at a barn at the Tioga Downs Casino complex Thursday. Over two-dozen racehorses died in the fire. Fenton has been charged with Arson, Burglary, Criminal Mischief & Assault, An investigation revealed that Fenton entered the barn and intentionally set a fire, causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage. 1 person who entered the burning barn in an attempt to save horses suffered second degree burns and was transported to Robert Packer Hospital for treatment. Fenton was arraigned and remanded to the Tioga County Correctional Facility.


Court has adjourned on Thursday in former President Donald Trump's civil fraud trial, with the trial scheduled to resume Monday for the start of the defense's case. The court will be closed Friday in observation of Veterans Day. Donald Trump Jr. will return to the witness stand to testify as the defense's first witness on Monday, if the judge does not rule in favor of Trump's motion for a directed verdict to end the case early.


New York will honor veterans on the year's 6th and final Free Fishing Day of 2023 on Saturday, November 11th. On Free Fishing Days, the state waives the requirement for a freshwater fishing license.
