51 Hall of Famers returned for the ceremonies in Cooperstown Sunday, with an estimated crowd of 28,000 in attendance.


State Police arrested 20 year old Skylar Clement of Mount Upton for 2nd degree Attempted Murder & 1st degree Assault. Troopers responded Sunday to County Route 18 and State Highway 51 in Butternuts where they discovered a victim was intentionally struck by a vehicle and the suspect fled the scene. The victim sustained serious injuries & was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment. Troopers and Investigators located the vehicle in Guilford, Clement was located in the City of Norwich and taken into custody. He was transported to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.


State Police are warning people of another scam going around, where people receive a call allegedly from a police department and demanding money so that the caller is not arrested. The caller typically mentions something about the person needing to pay for a warrant or that they found drugs in packages shipped to their address and need to pay immediately so that they don’t go to jail. Police will not call residents & demand money over the phone, they definitely will NOT ask you to pay with Crypto or Google Play cards or gift cards. Do not ever wire money, send cash, use gift cards, or send cryptocurrency to someone who you don’t know.


The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old James Ebert of Schenevus following an investigation of a physical altercation. Ebert was charged with 2nd degree Assault, plus Menacing & 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, after deputies responded recently to a fight in progress in the Town of Maryland. Ebert was processed & was issued an Appearance Ticket for Maryland Town Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Eugene Buzie of Unadilla and his mother, 50 year old Maddie Brown of Otego, following an investigation where Buzie was charged with Predatory Sexual Assault, Incest, Rape, Criminal Sexual Abuse, Forcible Touching, Brown was charged with 4 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Buzie is accused of subjecting children under the ages of 13 to a variety of forms of continuous sexual abuse, Brown was aware of the abuse and failed to intervene. Both were arrested Friday & were lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment. Orders of Protections were requested on behalf of the victims. Additional charges are pending.


Delaware County Sheriff Deputy’s were dispatched Thursday to a commercial motor vehicle accident on State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock. A tractor-trailer left the road through the guide rails, over a steep embankment and striking a utility pole before coming to rest on several trees. The driver was identified as 24 year old Surajmal of Indianapolis, Indiana, he was charged with moving from lane unsafely.


Sidney Fire Fighters along with assistance from surrounding Fire companies, responded to a fire at 5 East Main Street, shortly after 7:00 PM Friday Night. All residents were safely removed from the building, there was smoke & water damage, No injuries have been reported.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced today that June 29-30 is a free fishing weekend in New York State. During free fishing days, the fishing license requirement is waived for freshwater fishing on New York’s waters, & people are permitted to fish for free without a fishing license, all other fishing regulations remain in effect. Graduation Ceremonies will be held at several area School Districts today. Gilbertsville-Mount Upton will have theirs at 5:30, Milford at 6:00 PM, Sherburne-Earlville at 6:00 PM at Colgate University, Charlotte Valley & Windsor at 6:30 PM, at 7:00 PM, Graduation Exercises will be held for seniors of Afton, Andes, Edmeston, Franklin, Hancock, Norwich, Deposit, Morris & Otselic Valley.


On Tuesday morning, a State Trooper in Bainbridge attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the operator failed to comply, a short time later, the Trooper observed the vehicle had struck a pole, a tree, damaged a yard and the vehicle had caught on fire & the driver fled the scene, Troopers located 39 year old Peter Puglisi of Unadilla, in the afternoon at an address on County Road 38 in the town of Bainbridge. Puglisi was arrested and issued appearance tickets for Criminal Mischief and Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Office in a Motor Vehicle, he is scheduled to appear in Bainbridge Town Court on July 15th.


Troopers were dispatched to the report of children locked inside a hot vehicle and screaming at the Oneonta Walmart parking lot on a 99 degree day. The children were exhibiting signs of distress from the heat, Good Samaritans gave the children water, they were removed from the car and were taken to Fox Hospital & 39 year old Kurtis Carpel of Mount Upton, NY was charged with 2 counts of Reckless Endangerment and 3 counts of Aggravated Driving While Impaired with Child as Passenger after an investigation revealed that he was impaired. Carpel was taken to Otsego County Jail for Centralized Processing and Arraignment.


The State Department of Transportation is advising motorists to expect traffic crossovers and lane reductions between exits 18 and 19 on Interstate 88 in the towns of Maryland and Worcester, for pavement rehabilitation work, starting today through October 31st. Eastbound motorists will be crossed over to the westbound side and traffic will be reduced one lane in each direction separated by a concrete barrier.

The Otsego County Office of Emergency Services announced that 29 year old Michael Bredin on the Town of Maryland, has been charged with 2nd degree Arson by the State Police & Otsego County District Attorney's Office. On March 31st, the Schenevus Fire Department, along with Oneonta City Firefighters, responded to a blaze at an apartment house on State Route 7, the fire was quickly knocked down, and investigators determined that the fire was deliberately set. Bredin was arraigned Friday & faces court action at a later date.


About 30 residents from Morris and surrounding towns met at the Morris Firehouse on May 23 for a follow-up to the news that Sidney Federal Credit Union intends to establish banking services in the Village of Morris. The meeting was organized by the Butternut Valley Alliance, whose task force began working to find an alternate bank when Community Bank, N.A. ended 167 years of banking services in Morris on January 19, Maggie Brenner of the Butternut Valley Alliance explains:

On Saturday, the Legion Riders will be hosting a ride to raise money at $20.00 a bike starting at 9:00 AM, The rest of the activities get underway at about 11:00 Saturday at the legion with food, bands, a corn hole tournament & about 50 raffle baskets, with proceeds going to help with Rowan's medical expenses.


The Food and Drug Administration has recently announced a recall of nearly 1.9 million bottles of water sold in stores in New York. The recall was initiated by the producer, Natural Waters of Viti Limited, whose Fiji Natural Artesian Water, due to the presence of manganese and 3 bacteria, the production dates were from last November, more information is available by calling Natural Waters of Viti Limited at 888-426-4602.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Otsego and Delaware Counties recently. 11 businesses were checked for compliance, with 1 person charged with Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor, after selling alcohol to person under the age of 21, at Betty Beavers Fuel Stop on County Road 48 in the town of Otego. The businesses that passed were in Oneonta, Laurens, Hartwick, Milford, Otego, & Davenport. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.


The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a Web Presence Seminar for Business owners and non-profit organization leaders to review their digital marketing efforts. The seminar will be held on June 4 & will be conducted by Sean Griffin of Cornerstone Services. The free seminar will be held on June 4 in the meeting room at the Business Center at 5 ½ Main Street in Delhi, starting at 10:00 am. Attendance is limited and advance registration is required at DelawareCounty.org


The Sidney High School Flood Monitoring Team will be giving a special presentation for the public in the Smart Community Room at the Sidney Memorial Public Library Today at 6:00PM. Restore New York funding is now available for projects involving the demolition, deconstruction, rehabilitation, and/or reconstruction of vacant, abandoned, condemned, and surplus properties. The Intent to Apply Form is due Monday March 25, Priority is given to projects in Empire Zones and Brownfield Opportunity Areas, as well as to projects that leverage other state or federal redevelopment, remediation, or planning programs. The Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced that on Sunday, a reported missing person, 38 year old Nicholas Andrews of Preston was found deceased from injuries related to an ATV accident, in the Town of Preston area. Andrews was reported missing on March 14, after he had left his residence at approximately 6 PM on a white Polaris 4 wheeler. The Chenango County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Forest Rangers, State Search and Rescue Federation, and the Oxford Fire Department.


State Police were dispatched early Saturday morning to 162 Tim Hill Road in Marathon, Upon arrival, the Troopers determined that the 54-year-old male was suffering a mental health crisis and was in possession of a gun, while the Troopers were making contact with the man, he pointed the gun toward the Troopers. The man was shot by a Trooper and was immediately rendered medical care. No one else was injured. The male was transported by ambulance to Wilson Hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. This is an on-going investigation, No names or other details have been released.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Carmine Yonnone of Delhi Friday following a traffic stop in the Town of Oneonta. Yonnone was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Consumption of Alcohol in a motor vehicle, among other charges, he was also found to have a Suspended Driver’s License, was was issued appearance tickets for a court appearance at a later date.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 47 year old Albert Deas of Schenevus following a traffic stop in the Town of Maryland. Deas was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, speeding and operating an uninspected vehicle, he was issued uniform traffic tickets and is set to appear in court at a later date.

The program utilizes evidence-based screenings to help law enforcement better assess potential lethality by identifying common red flags, patterns and responses associated with domestic homicides.


Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 62 year old Bert Mullineaux of Walton on January 9th. Deputies were dispatched to a 1 car motor vehicle accident on Bobs Brook Road in the Town of Tompkins, Deputies determined that Mullineaux's driving privileges are revoked for DWI since 2006, he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, Moving from a lane Unsafely, and Speed not reasonable and Prudent, he will appear in Tompkins Town Court at a later date to answer those charges.


Fire fighters in Morris were able to quickly extinguish a trailer home fire Sunday night. Morris Firefighters were called to 422 Pegg Road just before 6:00 PM Sunday night, crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly, with only minor damage reported, no injuries were reported.


The Oneonta Department of Public Works announced a water main break on Bugbee Road near Crestmont Terrace this morning. Traffic was closed in the immediate vicinity & water was shut off for surrounding residents. More information will be available for area residents at 607-432-2100.


Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Natalie Petruch of Andes following an investigation of an accident on January 18th on Arbuckle Hollow Road in Delhi. Petruch was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while intoxicated, moving from a lane unsafely, operating a vehicle with a BAC above .08% , she was released on appearance tickets for Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 22 year old Kaleb Weinmuller of Morris, for Rape, Criminal Sexual Act and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigated a sexual abuse complaint in the Village of Oxford, where it was discovered that Weinmuller was 21 years old & performed sexual acts with a minor. Weinmuller was arrested and arraigned in the Village of Oxford Court, he was remanded on $25,000 cash bail & was transported back to Broome County Correctional Facility where he is currently being held on other charges.


An Otsego County ambulance was at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on I-88 Sunday in Schenevus when the ambulance was struck by a passing vehicle. The ambulance was parked on the shoulder of the roadway with its Emergency lighting activated. The crew was treating a patient from a previous accident in the rear of the ambulance when they were struck. Both providers were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.


Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Frank Mazepa of Morris on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a controlled substance. On January 8, Deputies assisted the SUNY Delhi Police Department on a traffic stop in the Village of Delhi, it was determined that the passenger in the vehicle was in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine and heroin. Mazepa was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Delhi court at a later date.


The Broome County district Attorney's Office announced that on January 12th, in Broome County Court, just prior to trial, Craig Brigham of the Town of Maine, pleaded guilty to felony Attempted Robbery. On August 1st, 2022, Brigham entered the Vestal Walmart selected a backpack and miscellaneous merchandise. When an employee attempted to retrieve the stolen merchandise, Brigham pulled out a small aerosol can and threatened to pepper spray the employee. Brigham will be sentenced in Broome County Court on April 12th to 1.5 to 3 years at a state prison.


The Sidney Center Improvement Group annual meeting will be held tonight at 6:30pm at the Sidney Center Fire Hall. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. The Improvement Group Board is seeking new members and more involvement in order to continue bringing programming, events and improvement projects to the Hamlet of Sidney Center and for the Town of Sidney.
