A Troy New York man wanted as a suspect in a shooting investigation was apprehended by the Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group and taken into custody within 5 minutes of his vehicle triggering a license plate reader in the City of Binghamton. On Wednesday, local law enforcement received an Attempt to Locate bulletin from the Watervliet Police Department regarding a possibly armed male suspect and vehicle wanted in relation to a shooting investigation in Watervliet. The vehicle was located in Binghamton, a traffic stop was conducted at a fast food drive through lane the unidentified suspect was taken into custody, members of the Watervliet Police took custody of the suspect and he was returned to answer for his charges.

Governor Hochul announced that $6 million in State support included in the recently passed budget, will allow for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies to commit to a five-year lease extension at Mirabito Stadium. The new deal will see the team remain in Binghamton through the 2035 season, state money will be used for stadium improvements, it will be complemented by $1.2 million in City and team investments, and $12 million in planned City and federal investments for the stadium district enhancements.

45 year old Dustin Yannuzzi of Binghamton, was found guilty by a Broome County Jury last week for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Felony of Tampering with Physical Evidence and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia. On October 2, 2024, Yannuzzi drove at a high rate of speed, engaging in conduct to unlawfully flee members of the State Police. Yannuzzi threw packages containing methamphetamine, from the vehicle, which was recovered by the Police. Yannuzzi was subsequently taken into custody at a local hotel, he faces sentencing on August 21st in Broome County Court, As a second felony drug offender, Yannuzzi faces a minimum of 6 years and a maximum of 14 years in State Prison, plus 5 years of Post Release Supervision.

The State DEC reported that Hunters harvested an estimated 1,759 black bears across New York during the 2025-26 hunting seasons, which was one of the highest totals in State History. DEC Officials said that the 2025 bear harvest was second only to the 2003 season. The Southern Zone accounted for an estimated 1,202 bears, The Northern Zone saw 557 bears harvested, which was slightly lower than 2024 but still above the 10-year average.

State Police Responded early this morning to 1092 County Road 37 in Mount Upton for a report of a plow truck that struck a house. An investigation determined that a Chenango County Highway Department plow was traveling west on County Road 37 salting the roadway when due to slick road conditions, the plow truck lost traction going up the hill. The plow truck rolled back down the hill while the operator attempted to regain control of the plow truck but was unable to and damaged a trailer, fence, road sign then struck the house. The accident led to the Gilberstville Mount Upton School District cancelling classes today, No injuries were reported.

Attorney General Letitia James released a statement as New federal rules now require many New Yorkers without dependents to meet work or activity requirements to keep their SNAP benefits, effective on March 1st, following the end of a longstanding statewide waiver. The requirements apply to people aged 18 to 64 who do not have a child under 14, who are not pregnant or caring for someone who cannot care for themselves, and do not have a disability that prevents them from working. James said that she advised SNAP recipients to watch for communications from State or local officials and to contact their local social services office if they believe they qualify for an exemption or need help meeting the requirements. The Otsego County Sheriff’s announces the arrest of 31 year old Marcus Borggreen & 26 year old Destiny Grant both of Mt. Upton, following a trespass complaint in the Town of Westford. Deputies were dispatched to a residence for a report of 2 subjects, they were located inside the basement of the residence, and were detained and were in possession of MDMA, narcotic drugs, and several weapons. the pair are facing numerous drug & weapons charges & were transported to the Sheriff’s Office and were turned over to the Jail to be held for Arraignment.

State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying 2 individuals connected to a burglary that occurred on May 27, 2025, on Colesville Road in the town of Kirkwood. The suspects were last seen operating a 2010 Honda Civic with Pennsylvania license plate MNM7338. The FBI has announced the indictment of 63 year old Henry Garcia of Vero Beach Florida for "Sending a potentially hazardous material" charge, by mailing a letter last year to the New York Attorney General's Office in Albany, containing what was believed to be a biological weapon. The suspicious white powder was not a hazardous substance, the charge filed against Garcia carries a maximum term of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

The Gilbertsville-Mount Upton’s Board of Education announced that they have offered Heather Wilcox the position of Superintendent, at Monday night’s community forum presentations at the GMU Auditorium. Wilcox is a Gilbertsville native and GMU graduate who has spent the last 13 years with the school district, Pending the successful negotiation of a contract, the Board of Education will appoint Wilcox as GMU’s next superintendent during an upcoming Board meeting. Her anticipated start date is August 1st, 1 day after Annette Hammond is set to retire as GMU’s superintendent.

Gilbertville Mount Upton Superintendent Annette Hammond announced that she will retire following the completion of her 10th year as superintendent and 16th overall at GMU. Hammond became GMU’s middle/high school principal in August 2009, and was named superintendent in August 2015. The District will begin conducting a search for a new Superintendent shortly.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Angela Williams of Oxford for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Harassment. Deputies responded to an address in the Town of Oxford for a domestic dispute. Williams was taken into custody without incident and arraigned in centralized arraignment. Williams was released on her own recognizance and is to appear in the Town of Oxford Court at a later date.

Emergency crews responded to an accident on I-88 yesterday afternoon at about 1:00 PM, between Oneonta and Otego. A tractor trailer went off of the road & tipped over onto its side, the driver was not injured.

State Police arrested 20 year old Skylar Clement of Mount Upton for 2nd degree Attempted Murder & 1st degree Assault. Troopers responded Sunday to County Route 18 and State Highway 51 in Butternuts where they discovered a victim was intentionally struck by a vehicle and the suspect fled the scene. The victim sustained serious injuries & was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment. Troopers and Investigators located the vehicle in Guilford, Clement was located in the City of Norwich and taken into custody. He was transported to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.

Bainbridge Firefighters responded to a blaze at 104 County Route 38 shortly after Midnight last night. Bainbridge Fire Chief Fred Bell told WCDO News the the house was not occupied, & was completely destroyed, Bainbridge was assisted by firefighters from Masonville, Sidney, Coventry, Guilford, Mount Upton & Afton, there were no injuries reported, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Troopers were dispatched to the report of children locked inside a hot vehicle and screaming at the Oneonta Walmart parking lot on a 99 degree day. The children were exhibiting signs of distress from the heat, Good Samaritans gave the children water, they were removed from the car and were taken to Fox Hospital & 39 year old Kurtis Carpel of Mount Upton, NY was charged with 2 counts of Reckless Endangerment and 3 counts of Aggravated Driving While Impaired with Child as Passenger after an investigation revealed that he was impaired. Carpel was taken to Otsego County Jail for Centralized Processing and Arraignment.

31 year old Cachet Fernandez of Unadilla was convicted of Failing to Register as a Sex Offender, on Monday in Delaware County Court, Fernandez appeared in Delaware County Court for a conference on his pending case, after the conference, he pleaded guilty to the indictment. Fernandez relocated from Delaware County to Binghamton, but never changed his address with the State Sex Offender Registry. Judge John Hubbard sentenced Fernandez to a 3-year conditional discharge, if he fails to keep his address current during that 3-year period, or violates any laws, he is subject to being re-sentenced to 1 and 1/3 to 4 years in state prison.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Mercedes Torres of Oneonta on an Arrest Warrant for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator and other related charges, stemming from a traffic stop investigation on April 1st. Deputies received notification Wednesday from State Police that they had Torres in custody for charges following a traffic stop and for an Arrest Warrant in Davenport. Torres was processed by State Police & was turned over to Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Deputies for the Arrest Warrant.

On Wednesday, State Police, members of the Broome County Sheriff's Department, members of the Department of Transportation, family and friends joined the Skinner family remembering Trooper Christopher Skinner who was killed 10 years ago while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 81 in the town of Chenango. Trooper Skinner was remembered at the site where he was struck on Interstate 81 between exits 7 and 8, he had been patrolling a construction zone and had made a traffic stop. He was in the process of interviewing the operator when a passing vehicle veered from the driving lane to intentionally strike Trooper Skinner. Trooper Skinner was killed instantly; he was 42 years old and a 13-year veteran, Almond Upton was convicted in 2016 of Murder in the first degree and died in prison in 2018.

Norwich Police Department received a call Saturday about an individual stealing from parked vehicles in the Norwich High School Parking lot, Officers located the suspect, 28 year old Matthew Maricle of Cincinnatus, in a stolen vehicle and a 30-mile vehicle pursuit ensued from Norwich to Mount Upton, where he ran the stolen vehicle into a ditch. Maricle was charged with Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Fleeing of a police officer, Resisting Arrest & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. It was learned that Maricle had forcibly stolen the vehicle from an 81-year-old male in the City of Cortland, 3 days of being released from prison, Maricle will be held pending arraignment at Norwich City Court.

Binghamton Police Department arrested 31 year old Okan Thompson of Binghamton, in connection with a shooting at an apartment at 100 Susquehanna Street on April 27. 5 others were arrested shortly after the incident, Thompson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail.

On Sunday night, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car motor vehicle accident with entrapment on State Highway 357, in the town of Sidney. Deputies arrived on scene and observed that the vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to rollover, then coming to rest off of the roadway. Deputies made contact with the driver, 65-year-old Lawrence Peloso of Mount Upton. Deputies charged Peloso with DWI, driving with a BAC greater than 0.08%, Moving from lane unsafely, and Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, Peloso was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Sidney Court at a later date.

On April 7, 2022, Hancock Police discovered Marte passed out in his vehicle at the Valero Parking lot, police confiscated needles and heroin. Marte pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, on Monday he was sentenced on his conviction, he must enroll in and successfully complete Adult Treatment Court.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 43 year old Nicholas Marte of Mount Upton pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, in Delaware County Court Monday. On April 6, 2022, Hancock Police responded to a 911 call, Marte was found passed out in his vehicle at the Valero Parking lot, police found multiple used needles and several glassine envelopes containing heroin. Marte pleaded guilty to the Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he will be sentenced to a 5-year term of probation with the special condition that he successfully completes a Drug Treatment Court Program, if he fails to complete the program or violates the terms of his probation, he will be re-sentenced to state prison.

Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded Tuesday to a report of a physical injury domestic dispute in the Town of Binghamton, they found a female victim with lacerations, 38 year old Adam Gurney of Binghamton, was arrested, after deputies found that he had a full Stay Away Order of Protection against him, he also had an outstanding arrest warrant through the Town of Vestal, for violating an order of protection. Gurney was charged with Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Family Offense, Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, he was arraigned and has remained in custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

Broome County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 31 year old Michael Kimball for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, plus many other charges, following a stolen vehicle pursuit in the Town of Dickinson Sunday. Deputies joined a pursuit of an SUV initiated by Binghamton Police, Kimball failed to stop and led police on a pursuit on Chenango Street, Kimball collided with a pickup truck that was blocking the road, which was placed there by Robert Parks of Binghamton, who was the owner of the stolen SUV. After the collision, Parks got into a scuffle with Kimball through the driver’s side window, Kimball reversed, dragging Parks along the pavement and colliding a second time with the Park’s truck, Kimball fled again, Deputies took him into custody a short time later. Kimball was issued 3 appearance tickets and 19 traffic tickets before being transported to Binghamton Police to face separate charges, he faces action in the Town of Dickinson Court at a later date.

State Police are looking to identify 2 people in connection with a September 4th report of a wallet that was stolen from the Mount Upton Dollar General.. The wallet that was stolen from a cart, A woman is seen in surveillance video taking the wallet, a male is with her while at the store. The empty wallet was later found at a gas pump at Speedway at State Routes 7 and 8, & was turned in to the store by a patron, Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at (607)-561-7400, Pictures of the people in question can be viewed at the WCDO Facebook page.
