Governor Cuomo announced more than $45 million in funding for the Vital Access/Safety Net Provider Program to support projects over the next 3 years by 37 facilities that were selected due to financial condition and critical role in providing services to their elderly population. The VAP program was established by the Medicaid Redesign Team, the Department of Health will immediately begin working with the facilities to establish goals & track progress, locally, Facilities receiving funding include A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, with over $ 3 million dollars, and Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, with $ 221,000.
New York Farm Bureau members along with the Feeding America Food Banks have donated almost 8.4 million pounds of food this year. Farm Bureau also handed over a nearly $1,000 cash donation from nine County Farm Bureaus within the Food Bank of Central New York’s 11 county area. The announcement was made at the first day of the Farm Bureau’s 2013 State Annual Meeting in Syracuse yesterday.

State troopers arrested 17-year-old Landell Backus of Syracuse For 3rd Degree assault and criminal mischief, following a complaint at the Oneonta Job Corps. Backus allegedly punched an employee in the face and damaged a computer. Backus was arraigned in town of Milford court and was remanded to the Otsego county jail on $1,000 cash bail pending court action on august 13th.
State lawmakers received 1.8 million dollars in per diem expenses during the 6 month session that ended in June, a 28% drop from the year before. Lawmakers had been criticized for doing little to check the legitimacy of lawmaker’s claims as to whether they were in Albany on a specific day, or needed to be in town on official business. No receipts were previously required, state comptroller Tom DiNapoli said that lawmakers per diems continue to face review.
The Binghamton Mets announced that playoff tickets are now available for purchase. Fans can buy tickets for the 2013 playoffs at the NYSEG Stadium box office, online at www.bmets.com or by calling 723-METS. The Eastern League playoffs would start on September 4th.
An Oneonta woman was listed in fair condition at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown following an accident on county route 48 in the town of Otego Wednesday. State Police reported that Annette Lapine of Oneonta lost control of her vehicle while turning a corner and crashed into a telephone pole, no tickets were issued.
The annual Toys for Tots golf tournament fundraiser will be held tomorrow at Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich with a Shotgun start at 9:00 AM. The money raised by the event will assist with getting toys to underprivileged children in the region this coming Christmas.
Hospice Chenango announces the 2nd Annual “We Honor Veterans” motorcycle ride to benefit Hospice. The ride will take place this Saturday & the money raised will be allocated to provide services to Veterans who reside in Chenango County and opt for Hospice care. The ride and is open to any rider and passenger for a fee of $10.00 per person. Registration will begin at 9:30am at the American Legion Post at 29 Sheldon Street in Norwich. New York power authority operated 16 power plants providing low cost power to business and utilities, and employs of 1600 people.

Delaware County sheriff’s Department Investigators arrested 31-year-old Sylvester Dorvil of Utica on a Sealed Indictment warrant handed down by a Delaware County Grand Jury. Dorvil is charged with 1 count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, following a 5-month investigation. Dorvil is accused of selling Heroin in the Village of Walton; he was arraigned in the Delaware County Court, and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility where he is currently being held on other charges. He is scheduled to re-appear in Delaware County Court today for further proceedings.
The band “Chicago” will perform in Oneonta tonight to benefit Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care. Spokesman Bob Escher comments:

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Department arrested 18-year-old Devyn Clum of Bloomville for 2nd degree Criminal Contempt. The charges stem from an incident that took place in May where Clum violated an order of protection. Clum will be arraigned at a later date.

Delaware County Deputies arrested 26-year-old Tatsumi Suyama of Brooklyn for Criminal Possession of Marihuana, following an incident where Suyama is alleged to be in possession of marihuana at the Little Pond State Camp ground. Suyama was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Andes Town Court of July 11th.
A record amount of unclaimed funds, totaling $347 million, were paid out to individuals and organizations in the state’s last fiscal year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. This new record surpasses the previous year by $33 million. Currently, there is $12.5 billion in lost or forgotten money that is still waiting to be claimed. New Yorkers can find out if they are owed some of the state’s $12.5 billion in unclaimed funds by visiting www.osc.state.ny.us or by calling toll free at 1-800-221-9311.

Cuomo stated that workers’ COMPENSATION REFORM amounts to $800 MILLION IN SAVINGS TO BUSINESSES WHILE INCREASING BENEFITS FOR WORKERS, While the UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE REFORM amounts to $400 MILLION IN SAVINGS TO EMPLOYERS WHILE INCREASING BENEFIT RATES FOR those who need to make claims.

Hunt is accused of burglarizing 2 homes in Decatur and Middlefield, DNA evidence left on a cigarette at the scene led police to Hunt, a search of Hunt’s residence led to the recovery of stolen items from those homes. Hunt is currently serving 3 to 9 years in state prison; the new charges could lead to another 30 years in prison, if convicted.
The Boys & Girls Club of Sidney will host the 18th Annual Tim Morley Memorial Golf Tournament on June 6th, at the Sidney Golf & Country Club. The tournament has become the Club’s largest yearly fundraiser, it is named after Tim Morley, who helped get the club started over 20 years ago, and who died in an accident in 1994.
