The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year-old
Lenard Cox of Masonville, who is a registered sex offender & who is accused
of failing to register 5 separate email and or internet accounts.  Cox was charged with 5 counts of Sex Offender
Failure to Report a Change of Address, he was arraigned in the Town of Delhi
Court where he pled guilty to one count of Attempted Failure to Register an
Address Change, he remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Governor Cuomo today announced the launch of the 3rd
round of the Energy to Lead competition with $5 million available for New York
colleges and universities to lower their carbon footprint & reduce energy
use.  The competition is open to 2 or 4-year
colleges or universities that are REV Campus Challenge members and it is
administered through NYSERDA. Proposals will be accepted through February 20,
2020.  Ongoing projects under previous
rounds include the Broome Community College's "Geothermal Learning
Laboratory" to install a closed loop geothermal system that uses the heat
energy stored in the earth.
Registration is now open for the 6th Annual DCMO BOCES
Mountain Mover 5K race on October 26th at 10:00 am in Norwich. The money raised
at this event directly contributes to school and career success for area
youth.     The 5k is a trail run through
the woods behind the BOCES campus in Norwich.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig
DuMond and Sidney Central School District Administrators remind motorists that
passing stopped school buses is illegal & it creates a grave danger to
children that use the Busses to & from School.  The Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer
assigned to the Sidney Central School received 2 complaints recently from the
School District's Transportation Director regarding motorists passing stopped
school busses.  Sidney School buses are
equipped with state of the art video cameras capable of capturing images of
passing vehicles and their license plate numbers during the 2 incidents, the
drivers were identified & were ticketed.

Firefighters from Sidney Center & Surrounding
communities responded to an outdoor furnace fire at the Fieldstone House on
Wheat Hill Road in Sidney Center.  The
fire was reported at about 12:30 PM, the shed was a total loss, the house
itself was untouched, and no injuries were reported.

This year's Utica Boilermaker race was delayed for about 15
minutes Sunday, not because of any weather related issues, but because of a
homicide near the starting line.  One
woman was pronounced dead at the scene &
man was taken to an area hospital with lacerations, that investigation
is ongoing.
The Delaware County Chamber of
Commerce will honor businesses at their 2019 Annual Business Awards ceremony on
Wednesday at 6:00 PM.  The Chamber announced
today that the event has been moved to the Meredith Inn at 4206 Turnpike
Road,  Delhi, due to the likelihood of
Showers & Thunderstorms.  The
Honorees include the Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, as the 2019
Business of the Year, Stagecoach Run Art Festival, headquartered in Treadwell
and Franklin, and Table to Farm Tours of Roxbury, will receive the 2019 Tourism

1 person was injured in a fire Friday at the Mayrose
Apartments on Lewis Avenue in Oneonta.
The fire started in apartment 206, the occupant was taken to fox
Hospital for an undisclosed injury, and 1 other person in another apartment was
displaced due to smoke & water damage.
The investigation is continuing.
Efforts & fundraisers continued Saturday in Bainbridge
for Sidney resident Heather Bucalos, who is fighting cancer again.  Christine Oliver is one of the people who is

Shawn Sastri handily defeats incumbent
mayor Christine Carnrike  & North
Norwich Town Supervisor between Timothy Brown & Robert Wansor ended as a
tie, 51 votes each. The Republican primary for Town of Hancock Highway Superintendent
was won by Neil Emerich, Democratic Party Primaries for the Oneonta Common
Council, were won by Mark Davies in Oneonta’s 2nd ward & Katie Lapari Shue
won in the 4th Ward.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will honor local

State Police arrested 35 year
old Benjamin Bishop of Otselic for Criminal Contempt, 2nd degree Burglary,
& 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, after Troopers were dispatched to a
domestic dispute on April 12th in the town of Pitcher.  Bishop is accused of damaging several
vehicles, and trying to break into a residence, the victim left through a fire
escape.  Troopers discovered there was an
active Order of Protection against Bishop on behalf of the victim.  Bishop fled before troopers arrived but he
was located on April 15th and arrested, arraigned & was remanded to the
Chenango County jail on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
State Police arrested 62 year
old Renee Rountree of Unadilla for Menacing, Criminal Mischief & Falsely
Reporting an Incident.  Troopers were
dispatched to a residence on Lockwood Hill Road in Unadilla, when troopers
arrived, they learned that Rountree falsely reported the harassment, menaced a
victim and slashed the victim’s tires.
Rountree was arrested and later released on appearance tickets
returnable to the town of Unadilla court on Monday April 22nd.
The Otsego County District Attorney’s office announced that
Gabriel Truitt has been indicted for 1st & 2nd degree murder & 1st
degree Arson in connection with the fire at 5 Walling Avenue in Oneonta last
December that killed former Oneonta fire fighter John Heller.  Truitt’s brother, Terrence was previously
charged in the case, he was released after 5 weeks into the investigation due
to a lack of evidence against him.
Gabriel Truitt is still at large; The Oneonta Police Department is
issuing a warrant for his arrest.

The Tioga County District
Attorney’s Office has indicted 37 year old Lawrence Faucett of Ulster
Pennsylvania, for failing to move over & crashing into a New York State DOT
vehicle, which led to the death of DOT employee Dennis Howe.  Faucett pleaded not guilty to criminally negligent
homicide for the March 13th crash.
State Police responded to a
tractor-trailer rollover accident on I-88 westbound in the town of Colesville,
at about 9:15 this morning.  Troopers
reported that the operator changed lanes and lost control of the vehicle; it
eventually went into the median, overturned & went off the north
shoulder.  The unidentified driver was
ticketed for moving from a lane unsafely.

State Police arrested 21 year old Dylon Wall of Davenport for the Criminal Mischief, False Personation and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, after a trooper was dispatched to the Walmart in Oneonta after a complainant reported that Wall smashed her front windshield. After an investigation, Wall is accused of intentionally damaging her property, he was located at his residence, he was also found to have marijuana in his possession & he allegedly gave troopers a false name. Wall was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court and is scheduled to reappear in court on September 20th; he was turned to State Police in Norwich from open warrants in Chenango County.

State Troopers arrested 4 people after a vehicle was stopped for traffic violations on County Route 41 in Afton. After an investigation, the driver, 25 year old Priyank Raj of New Haven, CT was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and several traffic violations. 3 passengers, 31 year old Michael Bueno of Cliffside Park, New Jersey 26 year old Watchaiapon Chiamsatchamongkho, of Massachusetts & 19 year old Jahennye Fortado of New York City were all arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, for allegedly possessing marijuana and MDMA. All 4 were arraigned in the town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2,500 cash or $7,000 bond, pending court action on August 27th, in the town of Afton Court.
State Police arrested 35 year old Walter Lewis of Sanford for DWI, Criminal Mischief, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Harassment, after Troopers were dispatched to a domestic dispute in Sanford. Lewis is accused of aggressively grabbing a victim and causing bruising, while the victim was holding a child. The victim also told troopers he broke a tablet & took off in a vehicle. Troopers located Lewis on Sherman Creek Road, he was arraigned at the Broome County Central Arraignment where he was remanded to the Broome County Jail on bail.

Both major political parties will have their convention Wednesday & Thursday of this week. Democrats are holding theirs on Long Island, as actress Cynthia Nixon tries to push her way past incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is expected to be endorsed at the convention by Hillary Clinton. Republicans are holding their convention in New York City, where Marcus Molinaro appears to be unchallenged in his party for the gubernatorial nomination.
The City of Oneonta Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee meeting will be held tonight at City Hall. The workshop will be held in the 2nd floor Common Council Chambers to finalize the writing of the vision statement, the meeting begins at 7:00 PM & is open to the public.

The Unatego Central School District announced that the will be soliciting proposals for repurposing the former Otego Elementary School. State Senator Jim Seward joined officials from the Village of Cooperstown and the Friends of Doubleday Field to announce a $1 million state grant to help fund major renovations and improvements at Doubleday Field. The grant will fund a portion of a $5.8 million renovation project to Reconstruct the third base bleachers; build a multi-purpose building behind the third base bleachers with office space, press box, and public space for event rental; Pedestrian friendly entrance from Main Street, potential relocation of the Sandlot Kid statue closer to the grandstand area; Improvements to the field; & Americans With Disability Act accessibility improvements.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies & local EMT’s responded to a 1 car roll-over accident with entrapment, at approximately 2:00 PM Tuesday on State Highway 28 in the Town of Middletown. 78 year old Doris Hubar of Margaretville was extricated from the overturned vehicle & was transported to Margaretville Memorial Hospital and was transferred to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. Hubar may have experienced a medical emergency while driving, causing her to lose control & flip her vehicle after striking a tree. No tickets have been issued, the investigation is continuing.
The Guernsey Library of Norwich will host a “Movies Under the Stars” event tonight with a showing of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” in conjunction with the Norwich Merchants Association. A SUNY Delhi freshman from Wappingers Falls was found dead in a wooded area near the campus Tuesday. The unidentified student was found unresponsive by friends, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Delaware County Medical Examiner's office. No foul Play is suspected; a memorial service for the student is planned on September 25th in Hopewell Junction.
State Police are investigating a burglary to a home on Grove Street in Windsor, which occurred sometime during the overnight between August 2nd & 3rd. Police said that burglars took a small black Sentry Model safe, which contained a large amount of US currency. State Senator Tom Libous & Assembly Members Donna Lupardo & Cliff Crouch met with state officials Tuesday in Albany to discuss the proposed closures of the Broome Developmental Center and the Greater Binghamton Health Center. Libous said that they are concerned about the loss of jobs, and the ability for the community as a whole to handle the patients:

Libous said that he talked with the Governor recently about his concerns, he said that he is hopeful that there could be money in next years state budget to keep the facilities open, if not he has proposed legislation to freeze the closure of mental health facilities until 2015, in order to come up with better plans for those affected. Libous expects to meet with officials again after the Thanksgiving break.

An estimated 1500 people turned up to greet the Canadian Pacific Holiday train in Binghamton last night. The train made its way to Oneonta this afternoon, where those that turned up were entertained, and left donations for area food banks.
State health officials report that New York's health exchange website has performed well, in contrast to the federal Affordable Care Website. More than 76,000 people have signed up in New York so far, and the state is on track for its goal of signing up 1.1 million people by 2016.

New York will not re-open health-insurance policies under the federal health-care program as the state already meets most of the new requirements. President Obama announced last week that health exchanges would give insurers (/l)an opportunity to renew current policies for one year under the Affordable Care Act after numerous glitches on the federal website. New York hasn't had problems with enrollment, called NY State of Health.
State agencies spent more than $462 million on overtime in the first nine months of 2013, a jump of $65 million over for the same period in 2012, according to state comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The amount of overtime rose $65.3 million or 16. percent. DiNapoli urged state agencies to improve their personnel management, reduce overtime costs and carefully monitor its use.

Chenango county sheriff’s deputies & the Greene Police Department arrested 23-year-old Corey Nelson of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania.  Nelson was a Fugitive from Justice out of the State of Pennsylvania, with an arrest warrant issued by the Muhlenberg Township Police Department for Theft by Deception-False Impression.  Nelson was arraigned in Chenango County Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional facility pending extradition back to Pennsylvania.
Delaware County Deputies investigated a 2-car accident on County Route 10 in East Meredith. 32-year-old Michael Tarzia of Delhi was traveling east when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 24 year old Kayla Constable of Delhi.  Constable was charged with DWI & leaving the scene of a property damage auto accident, she was released and is ordered to appear at a later date in the Town of Meredith Court
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the Town of New Berlin leading to the arrest of 47-year-old Valeria Goude for Cruelty to animals.  A search warrant was executed with the assistance of Compassionate Care Veterinarians; they located dead and malnourished animals on the property.  Valeria Goude was arrested and released, the investigation is ongoing.
This Saturday the 6th Annual Dan Elwood Memorial 5k Run/ 1Mile Walk to benefit Hospice of Chenango County will be held in Bainbridge.  The event will start in General Clinton Park at 9:00 am, Registration forms can be downloaded on two sites, www.canoeregatta.org/events.htm (http://www.canoeregatta.org/events.htm) or the Hospice website at www.hospicechenango.org (http://www.hospicechenango.org/).
Chenango county sheriff’s deputies arrested Trinity Hafner of Norwich for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance &  Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Needle during a traffic stop on State Highway 12 in North Norwich.   Deputies found  a hypodermic needle on the floor of the vehicle and a syringe was found within the vehicle containing heroin. Hafner was released on an appearance ticket & will appear in the Town of North Norwich Court on a later date.
The fifth annual bicycle ride for benefit of Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care will be held on Sunday in Margaretville.  The Catskill Mountain Cycling Club and the MARK Project sponsor the Tour de Pepacton; the race features two choices of distance, 25 miles around the reservoir, or 60 miles of tough local terrain.  Registration is available at USACycling.org, and click on “clubs.” scroll down to “Tour de Pepacton.” More information is available at 607 326-4734.

Governor Cuomo today announced that New York State would use available funds from the recently approved HUD Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program to cover the 25 percent non-federal match requirement of property buyout costs associated with Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.  Approximately 1,143 properties in 17 affected counties have been processed for buyouts under FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Included in the 17 counties are Broome, Chenango, Delaware, & Otsego Counties.
The 23rd Ed Wessels canoe regatta was held Saturday on the Susquehanna river from Otego to Sidney, and featured top pros that are expected to compete in the upcoming General Clinton Canoe Regatta.  This years Wessels regatta winners were Steve Rankinen of Pennsylvania & Matt Strybe of Indiana, beating out 7 time General Clinton winner Andy Treibold and & 5 time winner Steve Lajoie  (Lajwa) of Quebec by only 9 seconds.  Treibold & Lajoie struggled early in Saturday’s race with a hole in their canoe; they are expected to return to the area to defend their Clinton title on memorial day.

Former General Clinton Canoe Regatta chairperson Pam LeFever died Wednesday at her Unadilla residence, following a lengthy illness.  LaFever was an area business owner and had volunteered in a variety of local endeavors, including serving as the chair for the general Clinton canoe regatta for 6 years, and for supporting veterans serving in the military overseas.  Calling hours will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Friday December 28th at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Main Street in Sidney, followed by a memorial service there at 3:00 PM.  Family & friends will gather at 4:00 PM at the Sidney American Legion on Union Street.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, 13820.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident on County Highway 12 in East Meredith.  29-year-old Chris Mathewson of Davenport failed to negotiate a curve in the road, striking a bridge abutment.  Mathewson had left the scene prior to the arrival of police & was ticketed for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and failure to keep right.  Mathewson will appear in Meredith Town Court.
The Mohawk valley regional development council will receive over 59 million dollars for submitting 1 of the winning entries that were announced by Governor Cuomo Wednesday.  State senator Jim Seward supports the Governor’s regional ground-up approach:
