State Police arrested 26 year old Ryan Gregory of Coram, Wednesday following a neighbor dispute that resulted in a man shot on Houghtaling Hollow Road in the Town of Meredith, Gregory allegedly shot the victim and 2 unoccupied vehicles. A 57-year-old male from Meredith sustained non-life threatening injuries and went to A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, he was later transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. Troopers located Gregory at his local residence where he was in possession of firearms and refused commands to surrender, after several hours, Gregory surrendered and was charged with Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Additional charges are likely. Gregory was processed then transported to the Delaware County Jail for Arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Alex Scrivani of Claryville for Burglary & Criminal Mischief in Andes on May 11th. Deputies observed Scrivani walking along the highway, they attempted to interview him & he was uncooperative. Deputies later observed Scrivani exiting a residence and driveway, he was detained and it was determined that Scrivani was not supposed to be in the buildings or on the property. The homeowner was contacted and responded to the scene. Scrivani had forced his way into the building & his belongings were located inside, Scrivani was arrested, he was processed and arraigned and was being held on bail at the Delaware County Jail pending future court action.

Delaware Valley Humane Society & Waste Recovery Enterprises are teaming up for the Spring "Heavy Metal Haul-Out" through the end of this month. Interested participants can bring scrap metal to the large bin across from WRE on Valley View Road off of State Route 7 in Sidney. WRE donates the money they get for the scrap metal to the Delaware Valley Humane Society.
UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital will have a Grand Opening Celebration for their new Broad Street Entrance as well as a new Orthopedics Suite next week. A grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting, along with tours of the new spaces, will take place from 12:30 to 3 pm. on Thursday, May 28. The event is free and open to the public.

State Police responded Tuesday Night to a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle at State Highway 28 and County Highway 48 in the town of Oneonta. An investigation determined that 76 year old Patricia Howard of Sidney, was operating an SUV on County Highway 48 and began making a left turn onto State Highway 28 when she failed to observe a Motorcycle driven by 57 year old Gabriel Mizrahi of Syosset, he was transported to A.O Fox Hospital & was airlifted to a trauma center but succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is on-going.

The Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center is now open and it will be one of only 12 such centers in New York State, they provide on-site care for people experiencing mental health or substance use crises, offering stabilization services for up to 24 hours. The center is for residents in the Mohawk Valley area counties, including Otsego County.

State Police responded to the report of a vehicle hit a fire hydrant on Mead Street in the Village of Walton, then backed up and drove away. A Trooper observed a piece of the vehicle’s front bumper near the fire hydrant, found the vehicle matching the description, missing a portion of its front bumper, Giacalone failed field sobriety tests & was arrested, he'll be sentenced at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies investigated a trespassing complaint earlier this month, they interviewed the victim who accused 40-year-old Kristen Rice of Hancock had entered and remained in the dwelling of another person despite being asked, and that Rice subjected another person to unwanted physical contact. Deputies arrested Rice for Criminal Trespass and Harassment, Deputies transported Rice to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for processing, she was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility & was held for arraignment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a traffic stop in Delhi February 10th, the driver provided Deputies with a false name and date of birth, K9 Dexter discovered Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, plus scales and packaging materials. 43-year-old Adam Bright of Delhi was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell, plus Criminally using Drug Paraphernalia, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, False Personation, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator among other traffic violations, Deputies transported Bright was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to be held for Arraignment.

The Department has a total of 17,783 positive flu cases, Outside of New York City, week-over-week flu cases are up 114%, to 3,619. Hospitalizations doubled to 413 across the State. Current influenza information is available at health.ny.gov.

Governor Hochul announced that $25 million has been awarded to help New York’s farmers support agricultural water quality conservation projects. Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown has begun the next phase of its project to construct a childcare center on the hospital’s campus, which is expected to be completed in spring 2026. The facility will be called the Harrison House Childcare Center in honor of Dr. Francis Harrison, an internist who joined Bassett in 1928, The new facility will be at 1 Beaver Street & it will have space for 58 children, plus 15 additional spots for sick care. The center will employ around 18 staff members.

UHS Delaware Valley Hospital has been awarded a $20 million grant through the State Department of Health. The Hospital recently announced plans to build a 4-story addition & the grant will support that expansion. The new building will house primary medical care services, specialty services, physical, occupational & speech therapy and a laboratory, The Medical Neighborhood Project is expected to begin shortly, with the anticipated completion by the end of 2027.

As the case progressed, law enforcement identified inconsistencies in the father’s account of events and the timeline he provided. The girl was found dead in Ticonderoga, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office has turned the investigation over to State Police. Luciano Frattolin, has been arrested and is currently being held at the Essex County Jail, Luciano Frattolin, the father of Melina Frattolin, was charged with second-degree murder and concealing of a corpse, The investigation is ongoing,

State Police are investigating the accidental death of a East Branch Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Jason McGlone Thursday night, who was responding to a report of a vehicle that had struck a utility pole on State Highway 30 in the town of Hancock. A preliminary investigation determined that a low-hanging electrical wire was in contact with the top of the fire truck, when Assistant Chief McGlone exited the vehicle and made contact with the metal door and the ground, he was electrocuted and was pronounced deceased. The original crash involved a pickup truck operated by 54 year old Joseph Bellows of Downsville that veered off the roadway, struck a guardrail and utility pole. He was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital, he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated & was issued appearance tickets for Hancock Town Court on September 8th, 2025. The investigation into the firefighter’s death remains ongoing.
Sidney EMS & State Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Delaware County Route 4 in Sidney, initial reports suggested that a vehicle rolled off the roadway with 3 possible injuries Sunday at about 5:40 PM Sunday, injured occupants were taken to area hospitals for the treatment of injuries, the cause of the crash is under investigation, The Operator was identified as 20 year old Kadance Maus of Walton.

State Police were dispatched on July 4th to Ridge Runner Road in Hancock for a report of an accident with fireworks. A preliminary investigation at the scene indicates that 2 males were on a pontoon boat on Somerset Lake setting off fireworks when numerous fireworks apparently ignited at the same time causing an explosion. One male was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the other male succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

West Colesville Fire Chief James Sitek suffered a medical emergency while responding to the fire, Friday Morning in Conklin. Sitek was transported to Wilson Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, he served as the West Colesville Fire Chief for 3 years. The Case is currently under investigation by the Broome County Fire Investigation Office, the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, and the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded recently to a report of a trespass in progress in the Village of Walton, with a physical altercation had occurred while in the presence of a child, and personal property belonging to multiple individuals had been damaged throughout the incident. Deputies arrested and charged both 34-year-old Charles Boecke and 27-year-old Siara Mettler for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Criminal Mischief, they were both processed and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Village of Walton court at a later date.

33 year old Drew J. Garnier of Masonville was sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison to be followed by 15 years of post-release supervision for the killing of his pregnant wife Samantha and assaulting his 2 daughters. Garnier admitted to repeatedly stabbing his wife and children in their home on Houck Road in the Town of Masonville on September 4, 2024. Samantha and her unborn daughter died as a result of the stabbing. The children suffered significant injuries. Garnier pleaded guilty to 1st degree Manslaughter, and 2 counts of 1st degree Assault in March in Delaware County Court.

Delaware County sheriff's office provided an update regarding the head on collision on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton Tuesday, where 1 of the vehicles went over an embankment. 3 of the occupants escaped from their vehicles, 1 was trapped. A vehicle operated by 68-year-old Steven Wilson of Irvington, crossed over the double yellow line and collided head on with an SUV operated by 19-year-old Lauren Winans-Houck of Roscoe, her SUV exited the roadway and traveled over the embankment. A passenger of the SUV was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital and was released. Winans-Houck was transported to Wilson Hospital in Binghamton for treatment of injuries and leg fractures, Wilson, and his passenger were air-lifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, the passenger was treated for fractures & was released, Wilson remains in critical condition due to multiple fractures and internal injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

Walton Fire and EMS were dispatched they found 2 vehicles with heavy front-end damage, 1 went over the guardrail and down the embankment, 2 patients were transported to Delaware Valley Hospital, 2 others were airlifted to trauma centers by LifeNet helicopters. State Police arrested 31 year old Pierce Tobin of Oneonta for 2nd degree Assault following a violent incident at the Homer Folks Facility. On May 9th, Troopers, SUNY University Police, and the Oneonta Town Constable responded to a report of an assault, An investigation revealed that Tobin became aggressive after being informed by a staff member that he was not permitted to smoke. Tobin punched the staff member in the face and bit off a portion of the victim’s ear. The victim was treated at A.O. Fox Hospital. Tobin was taken into custody at the scene and was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $5,000 cash/credit or $10,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, The investigation remains ongoing.

On May 1st, 22 year old Seth Ostrander of Unadilla was arrested and charged with 2nd degree Attempted Murder and Criminal Use of a Firearm. State Police & Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on State Highway 8 in the town of Masonville, Troopers determined that a verbal argument had escalated into a physical altercation during which Ostrander discharged a shotgun in the direction of another individual. The victim was not struck by the gunfire and declined further medical treatment at the scene. Ostrander was taken into custody and arraigned at Delaware County Centralized Arraignment. The investigation is ongoing.

Binghamton Police responded to the Salvation Army at 131 Washington Street yesterday afternoon, Officers found a 57-year-old male suffering from stab wounds, the man was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead. 37-year-old Michael Brutvan allegedly entered the building and stabbed the victim several times & fled the scene, but was located & arrested. Brutvan has been charged with 2nd-degree murder, the investigation is continuing.
The Delaware County Board of Supervisors announced today that the next board meeting, scheduled for today at 1:00 PM at the Charles Cook County Office Building, has been canceled.

Walton Fire and EMS Responded Tuesday Night at about 7:00 PM to a tractor trailer rollover approximately 2 miles North of the Village on State Highway 10. A fully loaded milk tanker carrying 38,000 pounds of milk had collided with guardrails and rolled onto its side, a NYSEG pole was broken and live wires were on the ground initially preventing responders from getting to the incident and driver. NYSEG responded and cleared the lives wires allowing safe access to the scene. The driver extricated himself from the cab of the truck through a window with assistance from a nearby homeowner, he was assessed by Walton EMS and transported to Delaware Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Traffic on State Highway 10 was diverted while the scene was cleared, the State DOT, DEC spill response, Delaware County Sheriffs Office and Delhi Fire Department assisted, the road reopened to all traffic and All units were back in service at 11:45 pm

A Florida man is facing multiple charges following a firearms related incident in Endicott. Last Tuesday, patrols responded to a report that the Endicott Police Department were searching for a male suspect who had pointed a handgun at a female in Endicott, before fleeing the scene in a red Dodge Caravan. A short time later, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies located the vehicle in the Town of Dickinson and conducted a traffic stop, 62 year old Jack Hawe of Zephyr Hills, Florida was found to have a loaded Glock pistol & ammunition, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and other similar charges, he was processed & was sent to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.

Lambrecht Auction in Sidney held their 2nd Annual Sidney EMS Charity event Saturday at their Sidney Location on Delaware Avenue. Jared Lambrecht told WCDO News this afternoon that they raised $50,800 for the Sidney Emergency Squad, that is in need of a new fully loaded ambulance, which costs about $250,000. Last year they raised $18,000 in their 1st charity auction effort for the Emergency squad.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday to an ATV crash near Fuller Hollow Road in the Town of Hamden. Prior to Deputies’ arrival, Delaware County 911 reported that a victim had been privately transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in the Village of Walton with a second victim still on scene. Deputies located the 2nd victim, an 11-year-old male, at a residence, who was transported to Albany Medical Center by Life Net for non-life-threatening injuries. The 1st Victim was a 13-year-old female who was pronounced deceased at the Delaware Valley Hospital, due to injuries sustained from the crash.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for 40 year old Donald Shurock Jr. A Chenango County Deputy was called to a State Highway 26 in Pitcher Thursday for a suspicious vehicle complaint, the Deputy identified one of the occupants as Shurock, who has active warrants for his arrest. Shurock resisted arrest and fled the scene on foot, causing the Deputy to sustain physical injury. The Deputy was transported to a local hospital and was treated & released. Shurock is described as a white male, approximately 5’8” tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds, balding with short brown hair, brown beard and mustache, wearing a black winter hat, blue/gray Carhartt jacket, jeans, and boots. In addition to the active arrest warrants, Shurock is now wanted on charges of Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. 42 year old Thomas Mould of Stamford was indicted for Criminal Sexual Act, Forcible Touching and Endangering the Welfare of a Child by the Delaware County Grand Jury on June 27th. Mould is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a victim less than 17 years old in Stamford on June 22nd, Forcible Touched the intimate parts of another person, and he did knowingly act in a manner likely to be injurious to the physical mental or moral welfare of a child. Mould faces the potential of being sentenced to life in prison if he is convicted and sentenced as a persistent felony offender.

An Investigation by the State Attorney General's Office will begin shortly, following the shooting by Utica Police of a 13 year old Friday night. Utica's Crime Prevention Unit conducted a stop of two juveniles related to an ongoing investigation, one of them fled on foot and displayed what appeared to officers to be a handgun, an un-named officers discharged his weapon and shot the teen, who succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital.

Carpel was taken to Otsego County Jail for Centralized Processing and Arraignment.

45 year old Katrina Lott of West Edmeston pleaded guilty to Driving While Intoxicated and was sentenced to 3 years of probation, in Deposit Town Court last week. On June 13, 2023, Lott was driving on County Route 8, when she lost control of her vehicle and drove into the ditch. A State Trooper responded to the crash scene and determined that Lott was likely under the influence of alcohol when open containers were spotted in the vehicle. Lott had a BAC of .16% - two times the legal limit.

Syracuse Police Officers encountered a suspicious vehicle Sunday Night, they attempted a traffic stop & the vehicle took off, officers did get the License plate number, it was traced to a Liverpool address to stop the vehicle, Syracuse Police & Onondaga Sheriff's Deputies responded & were encountered by an armed male and an exchange of gunfire followed. One Syracuse Police Officer and one Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy were struck by gunfire. The armed suspect was also shot, all 3 were taken to Upstate University Hospital, all 3 succumbed to their injuries.

24-year-old Kelvin Marfo of Delhi was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle, plus other charges following an accident investigation. On April 6th Deputies responded to an iPhone Crash Detection for a motor vehicle accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith. Deputies found the motor vehicle accident, 2 of the occupants were transported for non-life-threatening injuries to a local hospital, while 2 others were treated by EMS. Marfo’s driving privileges were suspended for Failing to Answer a Summons, Marfo was issued an Appearance Ticket to appear before the Town of Meredith Court at a later date.
Last Wednesday, Oneonta Police Department was called to investigate a reported gunshot wound by A.O. Fox hospital emergency room staff. Officers learned that 51-year-old John Walley of Otego was transported to the hospital by a third party in a private vehicle, which left before police arrived. Walley was interviewed briefly and stated that he was on Chestnut Street when he was injured by a bullet, no evidence at the scene was found, he was re-interviewed & has refused to cooperate. The case will be closed but may be re-opened should additional information be received and the victim agree to cooperate. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call, where it was alleged that a fully disabled and incompetent individual had been left on a bus after it was parked for the evening, & after noticing that the victim had not returned home, a residential facility aid had discovered the victim’s location and brought her to a hospital. Deputies charged the bus driver, 74 year-old Lyndon Doig and the aid, 63 year-old Norma Castro, both of Walton, with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, they are scheduled to appear in front of the Walton Town Court at a later date.

The State Comptroller's Office announced that State tax receipts totaled $51.5 billion through the 1st 6 months of State Fiscal Year 23-24, $1.7 billion higher than estimates released in the Division of the Budget in July. However, tax receipts were $6.9 billion lower than the first half the previous year according to the monthly State Cash Report released today. The pilot was 72 year old Ron Galuppo of Texas, the passenger was his son, 22 year old Nathan Galuppo, of Texas. Delaware County 911 was alerted by Air Traffic Control in Boston Massachusetts about a mayday transmission from a plane experiencing engine failure, they also received a call about a small plane crashing near a residence in Franklin. Both men crashed while attempting to fly home to Texas from Maine, they were taken to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton after they were able to escape the wreckage of their plane, they suffered only minor injuries, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Federal Aviation Administration with the investigation.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that an Arrest Warrant issued by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of a Sidney man. Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a check the welfare on Interstate 88 in the Town of Sidney, for a man climbing on the bridge. Deputies subsequently located 43 year old Arthur Cotton of Sidney, who was wanted on an active arrest warrant out of Chenango County, for Sexual Misconduct. Cotton was arrested and turned over to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Leslie McClenon of Walton for DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & several other Traffic charges. On August 13th Deputies observed a car entering an intersection was nearly struck by another vehicle running a red light. Deputies conducted a traffic stop, McClenon had her driving privileges suspended and was operating the vehicle while intoxicated, she was released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Walton court at a later date to answer for the charges.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23 year old Nicholas Wayman of Bainbridge, after they responded to a Domestic Report in the Town of Delhi at the Victims place of work. The investigation revealed that Wayman had been involved in a Domestic Dispute while in a moving vehicle, having unwanted physical contact with the victim while in the presence of a child within the vehicle, the victim possessed an order of protection against him. Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 31 year old Derek Wignall of Hancock, pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt. Wignall violated an Order of Protection by contacting the protected party while incarcerated on an unrelated matter, he was placed back into custody upon discovery of the violation of the Order of Protection. Judge Rosa ordered a pre-sentence investigation to be undertaken by the Delaware County Probation Department. If found to be appropriate, Wignall will be placed on probation supervision for a five-year term.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a pedestrian-train accident near the Crocker Hill Rd area in the Town of Fenton Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Office stated that 17-year-old Jakob McCloe of Port Crane was walking westbound on the Norfolk Southern Railroad Tracks near Crocker Hill Road, he was wearing noise-canceling headphones and was unable to hear the train approaching, the engineer attempted to signal multiple times to get McCloe’s attention, he was unable to stop the train, and at 8:53 am, McCloe was struck and killed and pronounced at the scene. McCloe was a student at the Chenango Valley School District.

Bradley Law of Harpursville was arraigned Tuesday in Broome County Court for Leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident and criminal possession of a firearm. Law is accused of running over 13 year old Brennan Loveless as he was riding a bicycle on January 1st on State Route 7 near his home on Belden Manor Road in Sanitaria Springs. Law allegedly fled the scene, Loveless was eventually taken to Syracuse Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Law was apprehended the following day after he reported that his pickup truck had driven into a ditch along Bevier Street in an attempt to avoid striking a deer, investigators determined that Law's truck was the one that had struck and killed Loveless.

Dufton engaged in at least 2 sexual acts with a 10-year-old female child, in the Town of Hancock, he was also ordered to submit a DNA sample to the State DNA databank, he must register as a sex offender after he is released from prison.

Akshar said that his staff worked to saved the life of 36 year old Quashaia Oranchak of Owego on March 20th, after she was arrested by State Police on felony drug charges, she began showing signs of a drug overdose shortly after arriving, Narcan was administered & EMT's were called to transport her to Wilson Hospital, where she had a baggie of a substance located in her body, which tested positive for both methamphetamine and fentanyl. Toxicology reports from the Coroner show that both the unborn fetus’s blood and cerebral spinal fluid contained an extremely high & fatal level of methamphetamine. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old David Moxley of Hamden following a motor vehicle accident on April 14th. Deputies responded to a 1 car motor vehicle roll over with entrapment on County Highway 14, in the Town of Meredith, the vehicle went off the road into the ditch, and had rolled onto the roof. Moxley was charged with DWI and aggravated driving with a BAC greater than 0.18%, he was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Meredith Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 2 juveniles for 3rd degree Assault, following an incident at the Charlotte Valley Central School on April 12th. The Preliminary investigation by Deputies revealed that a physical altercation had occurred where the victim was physically injured, both juveniles were charged, and were issued a juvenile appearance ticket and were directed to report to the Delaware County Probation Department at a later date.
Rajee Almashni of Binghamton pleaded Not Guilty in Broome County Court Friday to 17 counts, including Murder & DWI, for the March 5th Hit & Run that led to the death of 72-year-old Elizabeth Atkinson, as she exited the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City. Police were called to the commons & attempted to make contact with Almashni, but he fled in a vehicle at a high rate of speed through the parking lot & hit Atkinson, who was taken to Wilson Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Almashni is being held in the Broome County Jail pending additional court action.
