The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Matthew Romano of Unadilla for Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following a property damaged motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oneonta. Romano was found to be operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver's license, he was issued a uniform traffic ticket and taken into custody on a Oneonta City Court Bench Warrant, he was then turned over to Oneonta PD to answer his warrant.


The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Tracy Boyer of Columbus following a six-month investigation involving multiple complaints of burglaries and thefts. Boyer was working as a Home Health Aide, she is accused of stealing from her clients, she has been charged with 2nd and 3rd degree grand larceny, 2 counts of 2nd degree burglary, 3 counts of conspiracy, & making a false written statement, she faces court action shortly.

The State Division of Consumer Protection reminds shoppers of laws that protect consumers about holiday returns. The Department recommends that consumers carefully review and understand what to look for when reviewing return and refund policies. If the retailer does not post a return policy, the law requires the retailer to accept returns of unused, undamaged merchandise within 30 days of the purchase date, with a receipt. For retailers that allow returns, State law does not require refunds to be given in any specific manner. Consumers having difficulty obtaining a refund are encouraged to file a complaint at dos.ny.gov/file-consumer-complaint

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 63 year old Kenneth Nilson of Oneonta following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oneonta on December 9th. Nilson was charged with DWI, DWI with a BAC of .08% or more & failure to keep right, he was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.


An American Red Cross Blood Drive will return this year to honor fallen State Trooper Christopher Skinner, who served for 13 years & was killed in a hit and run in 2014 while conducting a routine traffic stop on Interstate 81 in the Town of Chenango. Scrivener said that the next project may be on the City's Sewer system, which will require some updating in the future.


The United States Marine Corps Reserve today announced the schedule for the 2023 U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Train. The holiday train will take to the rails Saturday, Locally, the train will stop in Oneonta at the Gas Avenue Rail Crossing, from 12:05 pm. to 12:40 pm. The train will be in Bainbridge at the Walnut Street Rail Crossing, from 1:30 pm. to 2:00 pm. The train's schedule ends at the East Binghamton Yard Entrance, 3:20 pm. to 4:00 pm.


Hill City Celebrations to Host Oneonta Festival of Lights in Neahwa Park and First Night Celebration at the Foothills Performing Arts Center. The Festival of Lights Begins on December 16 through January 1st. State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Binghamton arrested 48 year old Stacie Congdon of Windsor for 3rd degree Grand Larceny. An investigation revealed that while volunteering for the Windsor Town Fair, Congdon made several unauthorized debit card purchases and cash withdrawals totaling over $10,000 between May and September 2023. Congdon was arrested and then turned over to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment. On September 29, Congdon was arrested for 2nd degree Grand Larceny, for allegedly stealing over $50,000 from the nonprofit, Punch Out Parkinson’s Inc.

The Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 26 year old Jonathan Stein of Delhi on an arrest warrant from Otsego County. Deputies assisted the Cooperstown Police Department in locating Stein who was wanted for Criminal Contempt, he was located Tuesday & was turned over to the Cooperstown Police Department to be arraigned at Otsego County Centralized Arraignment Court in Otsego County on the charges.


The Sidney Community Cultural Center continues to schedule events for local communities, with an Open Mike Night Friday Night & a Stand Up Comedy show the next week, spokesperson Amy Williams explains:

Governor Hochul announced $5 million is available to support animal shelters and humane societies in making infrastructure upgrades. The program is administered by the Department of Agriculture and Markets, it provides matching grants to shelters and humane societies to offset the costs associated with capital projects. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant Tuesday at 44 Narwood Street in Johnson City, they seized Fentanyl pills, Oxycodone Pills, digital scales and packaging materials, an illegally possessed and loaded handgun, 37 year old Donald Galloway and 21 year old Tyana Campbell were charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, they were processed and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.


U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is urging veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances during their service to apply for health benefits through the PACT Act:

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Kyle Buckley of Masonville on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Hamden Court. On October 23rd, Deputies received an arrest warrant for Buckley stemming from a previous charges of Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, and Improper Passing on the Right, Buckley was located Tuesday & Deputies arrested Buckley, he was held for the Delaware County Centralized Arraignment Court and later released to reappear at the Town Of Hamden Court at a later date.


The State Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting at 5:30 pm. Tuesday, November 14, at the Oneonta High School, pertaining to a project to reconstruct the intersection of Maple Street & State Route 7 in the City of Oneonta. The project would replace an existing signalized intersection with a single-lane roundabout, plus new sidewalks, crosswalks and a multi-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians. A formal presentation by DOT staff will be followed by a question-and-answer and public comment period.

46 year old John Jaromack Jr, formerly of Franklin, appeared in Delaware County Court Monday, he was sentenced to a total of 10 years in State Prison to be followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. Jaromack pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Act in August in Delaware County Court, he admitted to sexually abusing a minor child. The court also issued orders of protection in favor of the two children for the next 13 years. The defendant will be mandated to register as a sex offender upon being released from prison.


U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced today that millions in federal funding will be available for New Yorkers through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program this winter:

The money will help thousands of households across the state afford their heating bills and make cost-effective home energy repairs this winter. She is also calling for additional funding for LIHEAP to make sure that as many qualifying families as possible can get the assistance they need throughout the coming months.


The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office reported that a Binghamton man who led police agencies on a manhunt, was taken into custody today. Christopher Borges of Binghamton led police on a manhunt covering several hours, he was located and taken into custody around 10:07 am. on Deerfield Lane in the Town of Caroline without incident. Charges against Borges include kidnapping, robbery and criminal contempt.


52 year old Shelly Genung of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Tuesday and pleaded guilty to 1 count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a child in the vehicle. Genung admitted that she was operating the motor vehicle on a public highway in the Village of Sidney, while she was intoxicated by alcohol, with a 6-year-old child in the vehicle, she will be sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision and required to comply with any substance abuse treatment recommendations & successfully complete the Impaired Driving Program and attend a Victim Impact Panel, her license will be revoked, and she will be required to install an ignition interlock device in any vehicle she owns or operates.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Danielle Ashdown of Binghamton during the intake process at the Broome County Correctional Facility. On October 6th, Ashdown was arrested by Binghamton Police for a conditional discharge. A routine search uncovered 2 clear bags hidden on her person, containing methamphetamine and fentanyl, they also recovered 2 other substances. Ashdown was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 3 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, she was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.


The Chenango County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting will be held today at Fred’s Inn, in Norwich, beginning at 6:00 pm. Members, farmers, and legislators will be present to discuss the future of agriculture & how green energy is affecting production.


Hartwick College officials announced that they are hosting 2 Candidate Forums prior to Election Day. The Hartwick Institute of Public Service announced that the forum for today features candidates running for election in Otsego County, on Wednesday, November 1, the institute will host candidates running for election in the City of Oneonta. The Otsego County Department of Health reports that a cat tested positive for rabies in the Village of Cherry Valley on October 24, 2023. This cat belonged to a feral cat colony on Montgomery Street in the Village of Cherry Valley. The chance of rabies in other cats in the colony is very high, anyone who may have had contact with the cats should call the Health Department at 607-547-4230

Norwich City Officials said that the Water Main Project had to be completed, with the pipes dating back to the 1880's


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 59 year old Edward Orezzoli for Official Misconduct following an investigation in the Town of Otsego on September 18th. Orezzoli was charged after a complaint in the Town of Otsego, where Orezzoli allegedly arrived at a residence in the Town of Otsego and provided the homeowner with his government identification before entering the residence without permission. The homeowner contacted 911 and deputies responded, however Orezzoli left prior to the arrival of law enforcement, he was located in the Town of Milford & was taken in to custody, he was processed and released with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Otsego Court at a later date.


Hartwick College announced the launch of the new School of Nursing. The nursing program gets a name change after 8 decades, The new School of Nursing has 234 students pursuing nursing majors and over 1,500 graduates as alumni.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 18 year old Craig Longo of Rocky Point for driving while ability impaired by drugs, and criminal possession of a weapon. On September 24th, Deputies were assisting Delhi Police, State Police, and SUNY Delhi Police with a failure to comply traffic violator in the Village of Delhi. Patrols located the vehicle in question on Back River Road in the Town of Delhi, and that Longo had been operating the vehicle, he was released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Delhi court at a later date to answer the charges.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar announced this afternoon the arrests of 3 inmates for having contraband in their housing pods at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility this week. Investigators recovered crack cocaine, synthetic cannabis, & suboxone strips, they arrested 36 year old Dreyshawn McDonald for Criminal Possession Controlled Substance & Promoting Prison Contraband, 41 year old Ryan Carney of Endicott for Promoting Prison Contraband & 35 year old Paul reed of Endicott for Promoting Prison Contraband. This sweep was the latest in a series of investigations into narcotics, drug and contraband smuggling at the Correctional Facility, which have led to 9 arrests and dozens of charges since the beginning of the year.


The Village of Sidney continues with their water system upgrade, with new water lines currently being constructed from a new water source, according to Sidney Mayor Andy Matviak:

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 37 year old Farrah Singleton of the Bronx, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court today to 3rd degree Burglary. Singleton admitted that he unlawfully a residence at 226 Court Street in Binghamton and stole property on September 1st 2021, he was arrested a week later by Binghamton Police, he will serve 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison when sentenced on May 4.

ACHIEVE's Board of Directors voted to move their facility from their current location near the Canasawacta Country Club golf course down to former CWS Plant 5 building in Norwich. The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Ashley Williams of Laurens on 2 counts of Torturing or Injuring Animals/Failure to Provide Sustenance. Williams was arrested following an investigation into a report of loose horses in the road in the Town of Laurens on December 11th of last year. During the course of the investigation, it was found that Williams did not provided proper care for her animals, Williams was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Laurens Court for a later date.


The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 20 year old Colin Leonard of Otego following an investigation of a personal injury motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oneonta. Leonard was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving on the shoulder, Failure to keep right, Drivers view obstructed, and speed not reasonable & prudent among several other charges, he was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.
