39-year-old Brent Fallon of Binghamton is in Critical Condition after he was badly burned at a NYSEG substation in Binghamton recently. Fallon sustained 2nd and 3rd-degree burns over much of his body, he was taken to Wilson Hospital & was later transferred to the burn unit at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.


The Matthews Auto Group raised $153,561 at the 7th Annual Matthews Walk-A-Thon to benefit 13 kids’ charities in New York & Pennsylvania. Chenango County Child Advocacy Center in Norwich receives $14,679 from the efforts of the Norwich area Walk-A-Thon, Matthews Auto donated $10 per mile for every mile walked by registered participants, to the charity or charities of the walker’s choosing, $593,739 has been raised by the Matthews Walk-a-thon since the event’s inception 7 years ago.


The State DEC reminds area residents that the burn ban is in effect at least through Wednesday & it will be re-assessed at that time. Most of the state is under a drought watch or drought advisory due to the lingering dry conditions.

NYSEG reported power outages in the towns of Colchester & Hancock this afternoon. Over 550 customers were without power, NYSEG announced that almost all of the power has been restored.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31 year old Kathrine McFadden of Texas following the investigation of a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Maryland. McFadden was located at the accident scene and found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated, she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI .18% or More of Alcohol, Failure to Keep Right, Moved From Lane Unsafely, among several other charges, she was processed and released with an Appearance Ticket and for Town of Maryland Court at a later date.


State Police are urging residents to take a simple precautions to prevent vehicle related thefts. Troopers have responded to reports of thefts from unlocked vehicles, Most recently, in West Oneonta sometime between the hours of 9:00 pm. on October 9 to 7:30 am. on October 10. Vehicles were rummaged through, a wallet was stolen and Police remind residents to Always lock your car, Never leave valuables in plain sight, Do not leave keys or key fobs in your vehicle, Install cameras or flood lights at your residence & Report any suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1.


The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate, 38 year old Chelsey Davis of Port Dickinson, who was remanded to the jail by the Town of Chenango Court last week. Davis received a full medical and substance abuse screening, She was then housed in the Medical Unit & was later seen by medical staff for a 2nd time, medical staff were called back to her housing unit for a third examination. Staff reported finding Davis responsive and not exhibiting any issues, 20 minutes later, she experienced a medical emergency, staff administered CPR and used a defibrillator, but were unable to revive her. An autopsy was conducted and full results have not yet been received.

Governor Hochul & the State DEC announced a statewide burn ban in effect due to increased fire risk and continued dry conditions. The ban will be in effect until October 15th and will be re-evaluated prior to expiration. New Yorkers can help by complying with the prohibition on outdoor fires and by continuing to conserve water whenever possible.


Former corrections officer David Ferrone pleaded guilty to tampering with physical evidence and will receive a 3-year conditional discharge when sentenced in December. Ferrone is the 5th officers to plead guilty in connection with the Messiah Nantwi death at Mid State Correctional facility in March.

State Police responded Monday to a 4 vehicle crash in the town of Union. Investigators determined that 3 vehicles were stopped in traffic when 58 year old Michele Drossos of Endicott rear ended a Toyota driven by 28 year old Ryan Freita of Endicott, who was pushed into a GMC SUV driven by 63 year old Charles Mann of Endicott, which was pushed into a pick-up truck operated by 45 year old Joshua Malloy-Buczek of Endicott. 2 people were transported to Wilson Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, Drossos was ticketed and faces court action at a later date.


The State Department of Health is urging eligible New Yorkers to get the seasonal flu vaccine, following new federal statistics showing severe complications in children, last year there were 26 pediatric influenza-associated deaths reported statewide. Pediatric flu deaths have been increasing year over year from 3 deaths in the 2021-22 season, up to last year's 26, More information about the influenza vaccine is available at health.ny.gov.

The Chenango County Board of Supervisors signed an agreement with Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services or "CARS" of Ithaca, to comply with federal and state regulations, Chenango County Attorney Zachary Wentworth explains:

Wentworth said that in 2023 The State Legislature passed the law that requires individuals in a correctional facility be given their opioid use disorder drug of choice. Methadone is a pain management and opioid addiction treatment drug, that has been used for decades for fighting addiction.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division was notified about an assault that occurred on November 9, 2024 in the Chenango County Correctional Facility. Inmate Donald Shurock caused physical injury to another Inmate, he was charged with 2nd degree Assault, he will be transported to the Town of Norwich Court for arraignment at a later date. Shurock was arrested in October for resitting arrest & Assaulting a Police officer, he fled to Pennsylvania but was returned to Chenango County.


State Police arrested 73 year old Patricia Crossman of Greene, for 21 counts of the Agriculture and Markets Law for Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals & failure to provide proper sustenance. The arrest stems from an investigation where the State Police and the Susquehanna SPCA removed 21 cats from a property, On November 12, Investigators were advised of a possible animal cruelty case on State Route 206 in the town of Coventry, Investigators determined that the cats were living in deplorable conditions within the home and in surrounding buildings on the property. The cats were removed on November 13 and will be receiving further medical care from the Susquehanna SPCA. Crossman was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Coventry Town Court on December 18, 2024.

Delaware Opportunities and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce have partnered with dozens of businesses and organizations across Delaware County to provide Christmas gifts to Delaware County children in need. Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 35 year old Devyn Wilcox of Harpursville on 27 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & 1 count of disorderly conduct on Thursday. Deputies responded Thursday afternoon to the Harpursville School District Bus, Wilcox is accused of entering the stopped bus and began yelling, screaming, swearing and threatening juveniles, according to witnesses & video. There were 30 students from elementary school to high school ages on the bus. Wilcox was taken into custody without incident at his residence, he was processed at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility and released on appearance tickets for the Town of Colesville Court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.

26 year old Simon Wysong of Delhi was indicted Thursday in Delaware County Court, he is accused of Driving While Impaired by Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, and Fentanyl in the Town of Davenport on July 26, 2022. Wysong was driving at a high rate of speed on County Highway 10 when he failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed onto State Highway 23 & collided with another vehicle. Wysong's passenger was killed, the driver of the other vehicle suffered serious physical injuries. The Grand Jury indicted Wysong for Vehicular Manslaughter, Assault, 2nd degree Manslaughter & Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, he faces up to 8 1/3rd to 25 years in state prison if he is convicted of the most serious charge. Wysong will be arraigned on the indictment in Delaware County Court on October 23rd.


2 people were arrested following a traffic stop in Norwich regarding a stolen motorcycle, that led to a chase that ended in Unadilla. Norwich Police had attempted a traffic stop, the driver, Cody McCrady of Chenango Forks & passenger, Nichole Wiggins of Greene, fled. The pair were taken into custody in Unadilla. The investigation revealed that the Motorcycle was stolen from Manlius and the license plates were reported stolen from Johnson City. McCrady was charged with Reckless Endangerment, Criminal possession of stolen property, & criminal possess of a controlled substance, Wiggins was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Wiggins was released on an appearance ticket, McCrady was being for arraignment.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received a complaint regarding a group of students from Walton High School who received a message via a social media app, which contained threats to bomb the Walton School and cause harm to other students. Deputies responded to Walton and interviewed multiple students and it was determined that the threat was made after school hours and that an 18 year-old student of Walton High School did make threats to “bomb” the Walton High School. The juvenile was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat and was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.


Commerce Chenango announced that 3 local museums are participating in the "MUSEUMS & MORE" event tomorrow. The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that a plea deal was given to 35-year-old Bradley Law of Harpursville. Law admitted to operating the vehicle in a hit & run Crash that killed 13 year old Brennan Loveless as he was riding hid Bicycle along Route 7 near his home in Sanitaria Springs back on New Year’s Day. Law was sentenced to 1 1/3rd to 4 years in prison for leaving the scene of a fatal accident and a weapons charge.


State Police reported that 16 year old Emily Clapper was located in good health in the city of Oneonta by Oneonta Police. Clapper was reported missing on October 2nd.

State Police announced the arrest of 46 year old Craig Ross Jr., of Ballston Spa, for 1st degree kidnapping. Ross was arraigned & was remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility without bail. Additional charges are anticipated. Ross is accused of kidnapping 9 year old Charlotte Sena Saturday evening as she was riding her bicycle at Moreau Lake State Park State Police located Charlotte last night, she was safe, in good health & was reunited with her family.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office announced that The driver who was killed in a 1-vehicle crash on Route 8 in Bridgewater has been identified as 36-year-old Edward Cuevas, of Oneonta. Cuevas was driving on State Route 8 at about 8:15 on September 25 when the crash occurred, the cause remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Oneida County Sheriff's Office at 315-765-2737.

The Broome County District Attorney's office announced that DeJoghn Llamas pleaded guilty to Attempted Assault and was sentenced to 7 years in state prison and 5 years of post-release supervision. Llamas admitted that he slashed a 61-year-old woman in the face with a knife during an argument at a Binghamton residence in October of 2022.

9 year old Charlotte Sena, who went missing Saturday evening while on a bike ride at a park, has been found. State Police reported Monday night that the girl was located and in good health and that a suspect is in custody. State Police said they identified an individual as being in the area of the Moreau Lake State Park around the time Charlotte went missing Saturday & the investigation is continuing.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1 car motor vehicle accident with injuries on September 26th, where the vehicle was found to have rolled over and the operator was found to be suspected of operating the vehicle in an intoxicated state. 19 year old Samantha Hanneman of New Jersey was charged with driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration over .08, Failure to Keep Right, Move from Lane Unsafely, No Seatbelt, and Speed not Reasonable and Prudent. Hanneman was released to a family member on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Middletown court at a later date to answer the charges.


The Next General Clinton Canoe Regatta Meeting will be held today at General Clinton Park Office, the meeting will start at 6:30 PM.


The Sidney Town Board will hold its Budget Workshop at 6:30 pm this evening. The meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Town Building, located at 44 Grand Street.


On Sunday Morning, September 24th, 2023, Sheriff’s Deputies observed a speeding vehicle traveling on Meredith Street in the Village of Delhi. Deputies identified the driver as 21 year-old Blaise Atanga of White Plains, his driver’s license was revoked in the State of New York. Deputies arrested Atanga for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, along with other charges, he was released on the traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date to answer the charges.

An estimated 3000 people attended the Funeral of New York State Trooper Timothy Pratt today in South Glens Falls. Trooper Pratt was killed last week, while he was assisting a tractor-trailer driver stuck on a median in the town of Wilton, & was accidentally struck by a second vehicle driven by 59 year old Joel Duguay of Corinth. Trooper Pratt was a 30-year veteran of the State Police and also served in the United States Air Force for 7 years prior to becoming a New York State Trooper.
Governor Cuomo announced the availability of $45 million for counties to improve their emergency communications systems and upgrade technology. Each county and New York City can submit applications to fund projects involving infrastructure, equipment and technology upgrades. The grant is administered by the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Applications must be received via email by December 8th at Grant.Info@dhses.ny.gov.

The 2016 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be a Norway Spruce tree, that will be removed from the property of Angie & Greg Eichler at 72 Country Club Road in the town of Oneonta. The Tree will be cut down November 12th and will be taken to New York City November 12th, and will be lit up in Rockefeller Plaza November 30th, live on Network Television.
Norwich City Police, Fire fighters & EMT's responded to a 2 vehicle crash, into a house at 88 South Broad Street. 1 person was removed from the scene by ambulance, following the noontime accident. More details are expected to be released following the conclusion of the accident investigation.
Delaware County Deputies arrested 22-year-old Courtney Jennings of Walton Thursday on an arrest warrant for Menacing, Criminal Trespass & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, On Sunday, Deputies then arrested 45-year-old Donald Jennings of Hancock, for Menacing & Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Both were charged in connection with a recent altercation at a residence in the Town of Colchester. Both were arraigned & were released pending future court action.

State Police & the Sidney Village Police announced the arrest of 29-year-old Kristina Hyer of Unadilla, following a lengthy investigation involving the possession, forgery & use of stolen checks & credit cards. Hyer was charged with 4th & 5th degree criminal possession of stolen property, petty larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument & forgery. Hyer was arraigned in Sidney village court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 cash bail, pending future court action.
The State Department of Labor released local area unemployment rates for May. The state’s unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.7%, Locally, Chenango county's unemployment rate was at 5.4%, Delaware county at 5.9% and Otsego County at an even 5% for the month of may.
The city of Oneonta announced that construction to install a new storm sewer system on East Street, between Spruce and Cedar Street, beginning on Wednesday. New concrete curbs will also be installed on East Street between Spruce and Mary Street/Hickey Street. During the project, through traffic on East will be diverted to Maple Street during the work hours only. On street parking will be prohibited during working hours as well. In August, city crews will engage in “Hot-In Place” recycling of the asphalt pavement on East Street between Center & Cedar Street, followed by chip sealing weeks later. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34 year old Dawn Mattice of Arkville, for Grand Larceny, for allegedly taking over $1000 from a home while employed as a home health care nurse. Mattice faces court action on July 21st.
Governor Cuomo today announced that maple syrup production in New York reached its highest level in 70 years, allowing the state to retain its standing as the second highest producer of fresh maple syrup in America. New York’s maple farmers persevered through a challenging winter to produce a modern record of more than 601,000 gallons of syrup from more than 2.3 million taps across the state during the 2015 season. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County will be sponsoring three farmers’ markets for the 2015 season in Sidney, Walton and Deposit. The Deposit Farmers Market will be located at the 1st United Methodist Church, 107 Second Street on August 20th & September 17th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Sidney Farmers Market will be at the Video Entertainment Plus parking lot, at 89 Main Street every Thursday between July 2nd & September 24th from 2:00 to 6:00 pm and at the Sidney Civic Center on July 28th, August 25th & September 22nd from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced agreements with 4 liquid nicotine companies whose products were being sold in New York in violation of a law requiring that nicotine must be sold in child-resistant packaging. Liquid nicotine is used in electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, to create the vapor that the user inhales. Liquid nicotine is highly toxic, and ingestion or even skin exposure to very small amounts can lead to serious illness and potentially coma and death, particularly for children. Companies will now be required to remove from all liquid nicotine sold in packaging that does not meet child-resistant standards & retail stores must also train their staff on the requirements of the legislation.

The Matthews Auto Group held a ribbon cutting at the Grand Re-Opening of the newly remodeled Matthews Ford dealership and the Grand Opening of the new Quick Lane in Norwich this morning. The family of Former Tri-Town News Publisher, Ken Paden announced that a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 6th at 1:00 PM at the Sidney American Legion at 22 Union Street. Former State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos & His son Adam have pleaded not guilty in a federal court for corruption charges. A federal indictment accuses Skelos & his son of conspiracy and extortion, they were arraigned Monday in a federal court room in Manhattan, Adam Skelos is accused of having a no-show job with a business that lobbied Dean Skelos on legislative matters, with the younger Skelos receiving about $300,000. Dean skeos resigned as leader of the state senate, but is still holding on to his senate seat representing his Long Island district.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 2 vehciel accident at about 8:50 this monring between a minivan & a Harpursville School bus on Smith Hill Road in the town of Chenango. 17 year old Katarina Stockton of Conklin lost control of her minivan on a curve and hit the Harpursville school bus head on. Cindy Wilcox of Harpursville was operating the school bus, with 12 students on board, she steered the bus into a ditch to try to avoid the collision. Wilcox was transported to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton with neck & back pain, Stockton suffered minor injuries and was taken to Wilson Hospital, none of the students were injured. Stockton was ticketed for failure to reduce speed under wet conditions & driving left of pavement markings, she is due to appear in the Town of Chenango Court at a later date.
The state DEC Announced that local governments and non-profit organizations in the Catskill region received $400,000 in Catskill Smart Growth Implementation grants. The grants will support projects in Catskill communities, in Delaware county, the Catskill Watershed Corporation will get $50,000 for the Catskill Park Wayfinding Sign Project, the Village of Fleischmanns will get over $45,000 for their Gateway Enhancement Project, the Town of Andes will get over $45,000 for the Ballantine Park Improvements Project.
