The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Luman Craver of Guilford last week in connection with the theft of an electrical transformer from a job site on State Highway 8. Craver was charged with grand larceny, criminal mischief and conspiracy, after the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint April 22nd that a transformer had been stolen from a job site where it had been delivered and was awaiting installation. Craver is accused of removing the transformer from the site, in an attempt to sell it as scrap metal. Craver was taken into custody without incident and arraigned & He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility and is scheduled to appear in Town of Guilford Court at a later date.
The Next Chenango County free Rabies clinic will be held today at the Columbus Highway Department on State Highway 80. The clinic for dogs cats & ferrets will be from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, pre-registration is requested at health,ny.gov/go2clinic.
The State Burn Ban is in effect for 1 more week. The law stipulates no open burning of brush or debris due to the higher possibility dry & windy conditions that could spread fire quickly, more information is available at the DEC website.

A Broome County jury found 29 year old Keanu Downey of Binghamton, guilty of 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 1 count of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, following a jury trial. Downey was arrested & was found to have Cocaine with the intent to sell, Downey was taken into custody on an active warrant. Sentencing is scheduled for July 30th, he faces up to 12 years in State Prison.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Corrections Investigation Unit recovered Fentanyl, Heroin and Marijuana from 29 year old Jean Benitez-Melendez of Syracuse at the Broome County Correctional Facility. Benitez-Melendez was charged with several Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, Tampering with Physical Evidence, 2 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Obstruction of Governmental Administration, he was processed and arraigned & returned to the Broome County Jail.
Former Mid-State Corrections Officer Caleb Blair accepted a plea deal for 1st Degree Manslaughter in Oneida County Court Monday for 11 years in Jail, rather than go to trial on a host of charges in connection with the death of inmate Messiah Nantwi. Blair acknowledged in Court that it was his boot print on Nantwi's forehead.

The Walton Police Department & the Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced the arrested of Walton High School teacher Eric Scofield for dissemination of indecent materials to Minors. 2 counts of a Sexually motivated felony, 7 counts of tampering with physical evidence & 5 counts of official misconduct, following a complaint that Scofield was engaging in improper communications with students. Scofield was brought to the Delaware County Correctional facility pending arraignment on the charges.

The United Way of Mid Rural New York announced that they raised over $590,000 in the 4 counties that they serve, about $30,000 dollars more than the previous years efforts, United Way Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco told WCDO News of the breakdown for each county:

There are now 3 candidates running for the New York’s 51st State Senate seat, as incumbent Republican Peter Oberacker decided to run for Congress. The 3 candidates are Democrat Michelle Frazier of Delhi, Current Republican Assemblyman Chris Tague and Sullivan County Republican Terry Bernardo, The district covers Sullivan County, Delaware, Schoharie, and Otsego counties, along with parts of Broome, Chenango, and Ulster counties.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Luke Lupo of Walton man on charges of Promoting Prison Contraband, after they received a complaint from the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Lupo allegedly possessed contraband while incarcerated at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on pre-existing charges. Lupo was arraigned and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on the charges that led to his initial incarceration.

Former Oneida County Corrections Officer David Kingsley, was sentenced to 25 years in Prison, in Oneida County Court Friday. Kingsley was convicted on charges of 2nd degree murder as well as Manslaughter, for the beating death of Marcy Correctional Facility inmate Robert Brooks last December.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that a record level of $67 million is available through the Farmland Protection Implementation Grants Program to help farmers protect valuable and at-risk farmland. Round 20 will make funds available to projects addressing food security, climate resilience, and source water protection, nearly $6.4 million will be allocated to 9 of the State’s economic development regions, the maximum award for any project has increased to $3 million. Round 20 also continues the one-time incentive payment of 10% of the value of the agricultural conservation easement being required for projects that meet climate resilience or source water protection goals.
State Comptroller's Office conducted an audit of the Otsego County – Court and Trust Funds, the Key Finding was that the Treasurer, County Clerk and Surrogate’s Court Clerk generally maintained appropriate records and properly reported court and trust funds. However, $74,150 from 15 actions that improperly remained in the Treasurer’s custody that he should have turned over to the State Comptroller as abandoned property. The Treasurer should ensure that all money deemed abandoned property is paid to the State Comptroller in a timely manner.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Jacob Roman of Walton with 2 counts of Grand Larceny, and 1 count of Burglary, On October 18th, Deputies were dispatched to Benton Avenue in the Village of Walton for a reported Burglary in Progress where they located, identified and arrested Roman. On November 21st, Deputies located and arrested Roman on new charges after it was alleged that he had taken the victim’s credit card and made numerous purchases on the card which amounted to over $1,500 without authorization. Roman was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

State Police & Local Law Enforcement Agencies around the State New York State will increase patrols during the holidays to combat issues like impaired and reckless driving, and to deter other crimes like robbery and larceny. The patrols will include both visible enforcement, such as checkpoints, as well as unmarked vehicles mingle with traffic to catch distracted drivers.
The 14th Annual Holiday Craft Fair will be held by the Bainbridge Guilford Teacher's Association on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the BG High School Gym. Over 40 local crafter & artisans will participate, there will be raffle & door prizes, people are asked to bring a non-perishable food item, pet food or a hygiene product as a donation & to get a ticket for a door prize.

Green admitted that he possessed, distributed, and conspired to distribute large quantities of fentanyl, heroin & Methamphetamine in and around Broome County, he also admitted to possessing 3 handguns and 2 AK-47 style weapons to further his drug-trafficking activities, while being prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions, & conspiring to launder his drug-trafficking proceeds. Green was sentenced to a 19 year prison term, concurrent 3 and 5-year terms of post-release supervision, and a money judgment of over $185,000 of unrecovered proceeds from his drug trafficking. Co-conspirator Michael Jacobs of Endicott, was previously sentenced to 10 years and 10 months term of imprisonment & 5 years of post-release supervision.

21 year old Joziah Worthington was sentenced following his convictions after trial in Broome County Court, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd & 3rd Degree, to 9 years in a State Correctional Facility with 5 years of post-release supervision for 1 charge, and 7 years in prison with 3 years of post-release supervision for other charge, to run concurrently. Worthington was arrested by state Police in 2024 in Johnson City, for illegally possessing a firearm as well as a large capacity ammunition feeding device capable of accepting 31 rounds, loaded with 25 rounds, Worthington’s DNA being found on the firearm.
NBT Bank presented the United Way of Mid Rural New York with a check for $190,000 to help fund programs that provide financial stability, education and health resources for individuals and families in Chenango, Delaware, Madison and Otsego counties. NBT Bank employees donated $95,000 to the United Way’s annual campaign through personal contributions, and the company matched that amount with an additional $95,000.

Former Mid State Correctional Facility Officer Francis Chandler, accepted a plea deal in Oneida County Court Thursday, in connection with the death of inmate Messiah Nantwi in March. Chandler was originally charged with manslaughter, he pleaded guilty to gang assault in exchange for a 4-year prison sentence, when sentenced in January.
State Police are warning New Yorkers of a scam in which individuals are impersonating members of the State Police, claiming you need to speak with a prosecutor regarding bail money for a loved one. The State Police will NEVER ask for money or talk about payments, they advise that if you receive a call of this nature, hang up immediately and contact your local State Police station to verify any information.

Former corrections officer David Ferrone pleaded guilty to tampering with physical evidence and will receive a 3-year conditional discharge when sentenced in December. Ferrone is the 5th officers to plead guilty in connection with the Messiah Nantwi death at Mid State Correctional facility in March.

Sidney Police Department received a complaint Monday at about 8:45 pm of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on West Main Street. Officers learned that a juvenile was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk, attempted to cross the Sherman Ave intersection using the crosswalk. A vehicle on West Main Street made a turn onto Sherman Avenue at the same time the juvenile was crossing, the vehicle struck the juvenile and did not stop, traveling west on Sherman Ave and possibly turned right on Union Street. The Juvenile was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center where they were treated for their injuries and released. Sidney Police are asking the public's help in identifying the vehicle and driver involved in this incident, which is described as a white mid-sized sedan. Anyone in the area of the incident with security cameras is asked to check for possible video of the incident or suspect vehicle, Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact the Sidney Police Department at 607 561-2301.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded Saturday to a report of a burglary on Boswell Hill Road in the Town of Union. The homeowner spotted 2 individuals with flashlights inside his house with his home security camera system and called 911. Deputies, with State Police, located the 2 suspects, they fled into a wooded area, but were apprehended. Arrested were 43 year old Matthew Ortloff of Chenango Forks, & 45 year old Jeremiah Johnson of Endicott. The pair were charged with Burglary, Conspiracy, Possession of burglar tools, criminal mischief, along with seve4ral other related charges, they were arraigned and remain in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released his conclusion on this year's State Budget, which came to a total $254 billion, a 5.2% increase in spending. DiNapoli questioned the increase in spending when federal actions on funding to states could decrease revenues, and that could lead to a shortfall before the end of the fiscal year. The biggest items in the budget were 37.4 Billion dollars for schools & 109.6 billion for Medicaid in the Department of Health’s budget. All Funds revenues are projected to total $248.9 billion, nearly the same as last year, tax collections are projected to decrease by less than 1% to $117 billion.

Hissin was arrested by Troopers at her residence and charged with 3 counts of Falsifying Business Records & Scheming to Defraud, Hissin was processed then turned over to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

Craig Klemick turned down a plea offer on Friday morning, he will return to court in August, as did Caleb Blair, who faces charges of murder, manslaughter and other offenses and will also return to court at a later date.
28 year old Ionel Baldovin of Romania was sentenced in US District Court to 33 months in prison for his role in a bank fraud conspiracy impacting 2 area financial institutions and least 5 additional institutions across the United States. Baldovin admitted to placing skimming devices and cameras at ATMs, the devices and cameras captured ATM customers’ account information and PIN numbers, the suspects created fraudulent debit cards from the captured information, which they used to withdraw currency over $450,000 from customers’ accounts in 2017 & 2018, 4 other suspects were already sentenced, the cases were investigated by the FBI, Homeland Security, State Police, the Endicott Police and various local police departments in area counties.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Justin Thompson of Pennsylvania as a fugitive from justice. Chenango County Sheriff detectives were advised Wednesday that Thompson was considered armed and dangerous, & he might be in the Town of Greene. Members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and State Police responded to a residence in the Town of Greene, they found Thompson hiding in a motor home on the property. He was arrested without incident and arraigned in Chenango County Court on a Fugitive from Justice warrant. Thompson was ordered to be held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility until extradited to the State of Pennsylvania.

24 year old Xavier Tappan-Bright of Binghamton, plead guilty today to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Broome County Court. Tappan-Bright, is a 2nd time Violent Felony Offender, will be sentenced to 8 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision when Sentenced on August 28. In January, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a Search Warrant in Binghamton, they seized a loaded .38 caliber pistol, containing 6 rounds in the magazine.

State Labor Department announced an increase of 14,400, private sector jobs in April, the state was up to 8.47 million private sector jobs, the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 4.2% and the state labor force participation rate increased to 61.0% in April 2025.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were patrolling along State Highway 28 in the Town of Andes and observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. 36-year-old Natasha Reed of Delhi was charged with Reckless Driving and issued a traffic summons for speeding, at approximately 94 miles an hour in a 55 zone. Reed was issued appearance tickets and released to appear at the Town of Andes Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Governor Hochul announced that work is beginning on a $4 million project to transform the intersection of the James F. Lettis Highway and Main Street in Oneonta into a roundabout. Work on the project is getting underway this month with tree removal and other site preparation activities. Major construction will start in early to mid-July and will focus initially on the northern end of the intersection and the interior of the roundabout. During this phase, only the ramps to and from the Lettis Highway will be open to traffic traveling eastbound on Main Street. All other vehicular and pedestrian access will be closed. Detours for vehicles and pedestrians will be posted.

The State Department of Motor Vehicles is urging New Yorkers to sign up to be organ donors. Last year, for the 1st time, more than 50% of New Yorkers had registered to become organ and tissue donors through New York’s Organ Donor Registry. More than 80% enroll in the registry do so through the DMV. Currently there are 7,917 New Yorkers awaiting an organ transplant, almost 500 New Yorkers each year, die while waiting for a transplant.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19 year old Kenyon Pickens of Guilford for reckless Endangerment, following an investigation into a 3 car accident on April 11th. Pickens is accused of attempting to avoid being stopped by a marked patrol unit, by accelerating his vehicle and driving in a reckless manner, Pickens failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in a 3-car motor-vehicle accident at the intersection of State Highway 8 and County Road 37. Pickens was processed and was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Guilford Court at a later date.

The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that Jeremy Lewis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was found guilty by a jury for possessing a loaded and defaced handgun. Lewis faces 15 years in State Prison as a Second time Felony Offender, in October 2023, the Endicott Police Department were called to a residence for a report of a disturbance, they found Lewis was in possession of a loaded firearm, which was identified as a 22 Caliber Semi-Automatic handgun which had been defaced.
Governor Kathy Hochul launched the ConnectALL Deployment Program Request for Applications, or RFA, to secure internet service to unserved locations across New York State. ConnectALL will accept applications from April 15 through May 5 to fund projects deploying traditional fiber optic, cable, hybrid fiber-coaxial, licensed fixed wireless broadband service, and federally designated alternative technologies such as unlicensed fixed wireless and low-earth orbit satellite services. New York State is investing $1 billion to the program.
Tax collections for State Fiscal Year 2024-25 totaled $117.5 billion, $2.1 billion higher than forecast by the Division of the Budget in the Executive Budget Financial Plan, according to State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. Tax collections were higher due, in part, to increased personal income tax receipts resulting from financial market growth. All Funds spending totaled $241.5 billion, 2.8%, higher than last year. Delaware County Sheriff's Office responded Monday Night at about 9:15 pm, to the scene of a tractor trailer rollover accident on State Highway 10 in the Town of Delhi. The highway was shut down for several hours while units on scene worked to upright the vehicle, at about 1:30 AM, the vehicle was up-righted and removed from the scene. the investigation is continuing.

31 year old Cody Smolin of Stamford pleaded guilty to 1 count of Driving While Intoxicated, he will be required to attend an Impaired Driver Program, and his license is revoked for at least 6 months, after that he will have to install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he owns or drives. If Smolin violates any terms or conditions of his conditional discharge, he is subject to being re-sentenced to one year in jail. State Attorney General Letitia James today announced that her office secured a multi state settlement with pharmaceutical company Mylan that will deliver up to $335 million nationwide to help combat the opioid crisis. Mylan manufactured and sold a variety of opioids since 2005, including generic fentanyl patches, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and others, & they deceptively promoted its products as less prone to abuse, but were more vulnerable to abuse.

Pennsylvania State Police successfully deployed tire deflation devices, Martino kept going, and he jumped out & attempted to flee on foot, a Broome County Deputy pursued and deployed a taser, & he was taken into custody. Martino was charged with Possession of Stolen Property in Pennsylvania, the local charges were Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer and over 20 Vehicle & Traffic Violations.

During the execution of a search warrant Friday in Johnson City, Murray was found to be in possession of images consistent with child sexual exploitation, illegal illicit substances and materials used for manufacturing methamphetamine. Murray has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Murray was processed and turned over to the Broome County Jail for Arraignment.

Broome County Sheriff's Office responded Thursday to an accident involving 3 motorcycles on Interstate 81 in Kirkwood, 2 victims were taken to Wilson Hospital for serious injuries, 1 person was pronounced deceased at the scene, who was identified as 23 year old Maxwell Kintner of Vestal. The preliminary investigation showed that speeding may have been a factor, the investigation is ongoing.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar released the results of the first quarter of targeted public safety and crime response initiative conducted by their Strategic Response Group. The SRG’s Targeted Public Safety and Crime Response Initiative for the 1st quarter of 2025 resulted in 31 Narcotics Arrests, 24 Warrant Arrests, 2 Weapon Arrests, 18 Vehicle and Traffic Arrests, 209 Traffic Violations Issued. State Police responded to a report of “shots fired” in the village of New Berlin. An investigation determined that 39 year old Joseph Avery of New Berlin, discharged a gun unsafely within the village limits with the alleged intention of intimidating a person. Avery was located and was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment, Stalking, Prohibited Use of a Weapon, Avery was processed and transported to the Chenango County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.
State Police BCI, Troop C Computer Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce arrested 40 year old Dustin Hummel of Oneonta, for possessing child pornography, possessing suspected illegal illicit substances and weapons related charges. During the execution of a search warrant, Hummel was found to be in possession of images consistent with child sexual exploitation, suspected illegal illicit substances, a defaced firearm and high-capacity magazines that are not New York State SAFE Act Compliant. Hummel has been charged with: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, Hummel was processed and transported to the Otsego County Correctional Facility and remanded on no bail.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force conducted a traffic stop on Bunn Hill Road in the Town of Vestal. A search of the vehicle revealed about 4 ounces of methamphetamine under a car seat where one of the 3 children present had been sitting during the traffic stop. The operator, 25 year old Lacey Brown of Binghamton, and passenger 25 year old Jacob Brown of Binghamton, were each charged with 2nd & 3rd Degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 3 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Child Protective Services responded to the scene to take custody of the children until they were turned over to a trusted adult. Also seized from the traffic stop was $1,242 in US currency. Both Lacey and Jacob Brown were arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, where they remain in custody.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched in January to Liberty Street in Walton for a Trespass complaint, Deputies were advised by the owner of the property that 36-year-old Leanne Woolard was found in the storage area of the building but had left the area prior to patrols arrival, The owner previously reported Woolard had previously trespassed and was reported to Walton Police. An Arrest Warrant was issued for Criminal Trespass, On Friday Deputies located and arrested Woolard, she was processed and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.

The Oneonta Police Department along with the New York State Police, Otsego County District Attorneys Investigator and Norfolk Southern Railway Police are investigating an incident that occurred on the railway tracks in the City of Oneonta. In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 30, 2025, an individual was found deceased on the tracks. The cause of death is still under investigation and, while foul play has not been ruled out, there were no immediate signs of criminal activity at the scene. No further information will be released as family notifications still need to be made.

On Tuesday. 64 year old Brian Fleming, and 61 year old Theresa Fleming of Springfield, were both arrested for 11 counts of Torturing or Injuring Animals/Failure to Provide Sustenance and 2 counts of the Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, They are scheduled to appear in the Springfield Town Court on April 3rd.

State Police arrested 15 people for driving while intoxicated or impaired in Troop C from February 24th through March 2.
The State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has placed 15 individuals on leave in connection with the death of 22 year old Messiah Nantwi, who was incarcerated at Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy. this is the 2nd investigation of an inmates death at Marcy , the other being of Robert Brooks in December, the investigation into this Nantwi death is ongoing.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Benjamin Combes of New Lisbon on 38 counts of Criminal Contempt. The Investigation revealed that Combes contacted the protected party of an order of protection 38 times while incarcerated in the Otsego County Correctional Facility. State Police and local law enforcement agencies will participate in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, through January 1, 2025. Baird was arraigned in Chenango County Centralized Arraignment where he was remanded to the custody of the Chenango County Correctional Division on $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond, and a $75,000 partially secure bond at 10%.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old William Killenberger of Worcester on multiple charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Investigators received information that Killenberger was in possession of firearms at his residence in East Worcester, After execution of the search warrant, multiple firearms were located with corresponding ammunition. Killenberger was previously in custody following an unrelated incident and was processed and was then lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Joshua Hunt of Unadilla for failure to notify a Change of Address, as stipulated by the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Hunt is accused of relocating from his residence in the Town of Unadilla and did not make the proper notifications to the Sex Offender Registry, an arrest warrant was applied for and issued by the Town of Middlefield Court, Hunt was located by the Sidney Police Department and turned over to deputies on the warrant. Hunt was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail, or $10,000 bond.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is participating in the "No Empty Chair" campaign, this week. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies statewide are stepping up their enforcement near area high schools. These patrols will focus on a different traffic safety threat each day of the week including cell phone use and texting while driving, speeding in school zones, seat belts and child restraints, graduated driver license provisions and underage drinking and impaired driving. The campaign occurs each year prior to Proms & Graduations for High school Students, motor vehicle crashes continue to be a leading cause of death and serious injury for people ages 16-20.
The Investigation continues into the murder of 12-year-old Aliza Spencer, with a collaborative effort by the Binghamton Police Department, State Police & the FBI. On April 21, 2021, Spencer was shot and killed while walking with her family near their home on Bigelow Street in Binghamton. There is a $32,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest. The audit's Recommendation was to Ensure the deputy clerk complies with the Village’s credit card policy and that each claim has sufficient supporting documentation before authorizing payment. Village officials planned corrective action.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 79 year old Ronald Johnson of Cooperstown for forcible touching & harassment. Johnson was charged following a complaint in the Town of Hartwick, where Johnson, while working in his capacity as a Realtor, is accused of forcibly touching the intimate parts of another person while the defendant was conducting a house showing. Johnson was arrested by investigators this week, he was processed and was being held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

The Governor's Office & the Public Employees Federation and Civil Service Employees Association announced an agreement to award nearly $3 million in backpay to more than 2,100 New York State employees who worked overtime during the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting this week, more than 1,700 PEF members and more than 400 members of CSEA will receive payments for work completed beyond traditional work hours at the height of the pandemic.

Deputies responded to Delaware County Correctional Facility where Richard Santiago was being arraigned on a separate charge. 44 year old Andre Gilliam of Binghamton was arrested after a search warrant was executed on Tuesday. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force Tuesday executed a search warrant at 174 1/2 Castle Creek Road in the Town of Chenango, they seized Fentanyl, Scales and cutting agent used for the distribution of narcotics, plus $3,790 in cash from suspected drug sales. Gilliam was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 2 Counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, he was transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for processing and to await arraignment at Central Arraignment.
Oneonta Police Department Announced an update to their earlier investigation in the Spruce Street area on October 28th. Oneonta Officers were investigating a noise complaint, they heard what sounded like a shot from a firearm, they responded to the area with State Troopers & State University Police. The ongoing investigation revealed that there had been a conflict at a party with all involved ending up on Spruce Street, 1 male was said to have pulled something from his mid-section discharged it at close range at another male. No witnesses described seeing a handgun. Investigators do not believe that this was a functioning firearm, and that the suspect fled the area and is currently in New York City. The investigation is continuing, anyone with information is asked to call the Oneonta Police Department at (607) 432-1111.

39 year old Orlando Torres of Binghamton was found guilty by a Broome County Jury for 2 counts of criminal possession of a Controlled Substance & 1 count of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. State Police & Emergency Crews responded to a Tractor Trailer Accident on I-88 Eastbound between exits 5 & 6 earlier this afternoon. Eastbound traffic was detoured to Route 7, the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.

Justice Robert Putorti of the Village of Whitehall Court faces action in the state Court of Appeals, after he allegedly pulled a gun on a defendant in his court room. Putorti has been the Whitehall judge since 2014, he claimed that he acted in Self defense when defendant Brandon Wood appeared to rush the judge''s stand in 2015. The state Commission on Judicial Conduct became aware of the incident & conducted an investigation, it recommended Putorti's removal from judicial office, Putorti challenged the recommendation before the Court of Appeals, he has been suspended from duty with pay while waiting for his day in court. Wood claimed that he was chained to a bench in a hallway & could not rush the judge, he also claimed that Putorti flashed a gun under his robe.

The preliminary investigation determined that 31 year old Joseph Portorsnok of Binghamton, was turning left onto Castle Creek Road when he entered the path of a motorcycle, driven by 20 year old Kaitlynn Eaton of Castle Creek, who collided into Portorsnok. Police said that Eaton died at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

State Police released their update on the reported abduction of Tatiana David in Ithaca Wednesday. A witness reported that David was forced into a white SUV by the suspect, 34 year old Michael Davis of Richmond, Virginia against her will. An endangered adult alert was issued by State Police, They said that the victim and the suspect were in a previous relationship and have a 4-year-old child together. At 9:25 pm, Davis's vehicle was detected crossing into the State of Virginia, Virginia State Police stopped the vehicle, at which time Davis fled the scene, leading Virginia State Police on a pursuit which ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in a wooded area at 10:05 PM. State Police released their update on the reported abduction of Tatiana David in Ithaca Wednesday. A witness reported that David was forced into a white SUV by the suspect, 34 year old Michael Davis of Richmond, Virginia against her will. An endangered adult alert was issued by State Police, They said that the victim and the suspect were in a previous relationship and have a 4-year-old child together. At 9:25 pm, Davis's vehicle was detected crossing into the State of Virginia, Virginia State Police stopped the vehicle, at which time Davis fled the scene, leading Virginia State Police on a pursuit which ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in a wooded area at 10:05 PM. Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility announced that 26 year old Tymel Platt of Binghamton is facing 6 felony charges for smuggling Cocaine and Fentanyl within the facility. The Corrections Criminal Investigations Unit acted on information that Platt was in possession of contraband, his body was scanned which revealed an item hidden on his person, they recovered 2 smaller packages, with Cocaine & 4.1 grams of Fentanyl, which is capable of killing 205 people. Platt was charged with 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 2 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, Platt was incarcerated on assault charges, he will be arraigned at a later date in the Town of Dickinson Court.
The United Way of Mid Rural New York officially expanded into Madison County on April 1st, making the local United Way chapter a 4 county chapter. Broome County District Attorney's office announced that Dillon Thomas pleaded guilty to Attempted Assault in Broome County Court. Thomas admitted to cutting a woman's hand with a knife during a domestic incident at the Econo Lodge in the Town of Dickinson, he was sentenced to 2 to 4 years in state prison. He was previously convicted of Attempted Burglary in Broome County in 2016.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 20 year old Tori Johnson following a traffic stop in the Town of Edmeston on January 20th. Johnson was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Uninspected Motor Vehicle, for operating an uninspected motor vehicle on a public highway, with a suspended New York State driver’s license, Johnson will appear in the Town of Edmeston Court on a later date.

Sidney 7th grader Isabella Phelps competed in the first ever New York State High School Girls Wrestling Tournament on Friday in Syracuse. She finished a 3rd overall in her weight class of 107 pounds. Bella's record was 5-1 for the one day event and she avenged her only loss by beating the same wrestler in the 3rd place match. Norwich Police & State Police responded Saturday evening to the report of a victim of an assault arriving at a downtown business asking for help. Police arrested 32 year old Jeffrey Sabines of Oxford, for 1st degree assault & criminal possession of a weapon, 44 year old Jason Lowe of Norwich, for 3 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and 4th degree conspiracy, 45 year old Daniel McCoy of Norwich, for conspiracy, and 37 year old Meredith Conkey of Norwich for obstruction of governmental administration & criminal possession of a controlled substance. Sabines was sent to the Chenango County Correctional facility without bail for violating his parole and for being a repeat offender, Lowe, McCoy, and Conkey were ticketed and released & will appear in Norwich City Court at a later date.

The renovations at the Northeast Classic Car Museum at 24 Rexford Street in Norwich have been completed after a year long construction project. The front of the building has been completed renovated and a larger parking facility was added across the street. The U.S. Department of Labor has ordered Valley Veterinary Associates on State Route 7 in Unadilla to pay over $90,000, in back wages, following an investigation into accusations that the company paid the regular hourly wage to employees for their overtime hours. The investigation also revealed that employee records that were inaccurate. 39 employees were ordered to be paid their proper back-wages.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested Michael Morton of Exeter on June 26th on multiple drug charges, after deputies responded to a complaint of a suspicious person in the Town of Plainfield. Morton is accused of criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of a controlled substance not in original container, he faces court action at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation to strengthen New York's gun laws and bolster restrictions on concealed carry weapons, to align with the US Supreme Court's recent decision. The legislation expands eligibility requirements in the concealed carry permitting process, Allows the state to regulate and standardize training for license applicants, restricts the carrying of concealed weapons in sensitive locations and Establishes state oversight over background checks for firearms and regular checks on license holders for criminal convictions. The law will take effect on September 1st, an appeals board will be created for those applicants whose license or renewal is denied or revoked, which will take effect on April 1st 2023.

Governor Kathy Hochul and Erie County officials announced an agreement between New York State, Erie County and the NFL's Buffalo Bills franchise for a $1.4 billion new stadium in Orchard Park. The Governor secured a 30-year commitment for the Bills to remain in Buffalo, and a combined $550 million from the NFL and Bills - it was approved today by the NFL owners. The Governor will advance a $600 million proposal in the state budget, and Erie County will contribute $250 million. The economic and tax impacts generated from the team will support more than 100% of the public share of the new stadium cost.
The New York State Department of Agriculture issued an order prohibiting all live fowl shows and exhibitions in New York State this year to help prevent the spread of the avian flu that has hit 17 states so far. Four flocks have tested positive for the avian flu so far in New York. It's also been detected in wild birds, including snow geese and wild ducks across the State. Several other states have joined New York, banning poultry exhibitions including Arkansas, Iowa, and Georgia. The ban will remain in effect until further notice.
The Oneonta West Street construction project between Chestnut and Center streets began today, and will continue weekdays from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM through Mid August. The project calls for the replacement of water mains, sewer mains, manholes, catch basins, fire hydrants sidewalks & related infrastructure. Troopers arrived on the scene and found that 87 year old Nancy Wellman had been removed from the home, a 2nd woman was still inside the residence, Members from the State Police utilized fire extinguishers in an attempt to locate 94 year old Eve Roys, who was ultimately located by members of the Five Mile Point Fire Department. Both women were transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital, Roys died at the hospital, the investigation is on-going.

The State Health Department reported Saturday that the COVID positivity Rate was still at 2.3% after over 120,000 tests were conducted & over 2700 were positive. Patient Hospitalization are still declining, down to 823, with 135 ICU patients & 57 on Ventilators, there were 7 deaths attributed to the virus in Hospitals & Nursing homes.
Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 37 year old Angela Harrington of New Berlin on a Family Court Warrant issued by Chenango County. Harrington was remanded to Chenango County Correctional Facility and is to appear to Chenango County Family Court at a later date.
