State DEC announced that the regular spring turkey season for all licensed turkey hunters opens May 1st, Spring turkey harvests average 16,000 to 18,000 birds, Sporting licenses may be purchased online at any time, Licenses can also be displayed digitally using the HuntFishNY mobile app, licenses are also available in person at more than 1,100 Agents across the State, For more information about sporting licenses, dec.ny.gov.

Chenango Sheriff Office arrested 47 year old Andrew Harris of Plymouth for Obstructing Fire Fighting Operations, Reckless Endangerment of Property, Unlawful Imprisonment. Harris was arrested after deputies determined he would not let fire department personnel extinguish a house fire in the Town of Plymouth. Harris was found standing in his driveway in close proximity to a fully involved house fire, he aggressive yelled at emergency personnel and failed to obey lawful orders, Deputies also determined that Harris committed crimes the night before against his girlfriend during a domestic incident, he was arraigned & released on his own recognizance.
Chenango Sheriff office arrested 38 year old Nicholas Partis of Cortland for Grand Larceny, after a complaint was filed by a local business. Deputies were dispatched to a local business, they obtained a license plate number and vehicle description. While deputies were reviewing camera footage, the Village of Oxford Police Department located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Deputies responded to Oxford and positively identified Partis, he was arrested & was released on an appearance ticket and is due to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
A Citizen Preparedness Training Event will be held today at 6:00 PM in Margaretville at the Town Hall, hosted by Delaware County Public Health, with representatives from the New York National Guard & The State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Binghamton Police confirmed that 31-year-old Connor Hickey was found dead in the Dorchester Park lake in Whitney Point. On Friday, detectives responded to Dorchester Park for a reported deceased man in the lake, they confirmed the man was Hickey, who was reported missing since March 15th.
Former Major League Manager Buck Showalter, who managed both the Yankees & the Mets, will be the was announced as the keynote speaker at the 10th Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class today, The Hall of Fame ceremony is set for April 28 at the Double Tree Hotel in Binghamton, starting at 6:30 this evening.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Dmitri Grassi of Greene on a Sealed Indictment Arrest Warrant. Grassi is charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, Grand Larceny & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Grassi & 1 other person are accused of entering a property & stealing items worth more than $1,000, he was processed, arraigned in Chenango County Court where he was released on his own recognizance and is to appear in Chenango County Court at a later date.
Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango will have their annual Spring Plant Sale again this year, spokesperson Sarah Green explains:

18 year old Daziar Gadson of Binghamton was sentenced to 9 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision, for attempted murder, for her role in a 2024 drive-by shooting. On August 3, 2024, Binghamton Police responded to reports of gunfire near Conklin Avenue and Felters Road. Investigators determined that Gadson shot a 19-year-old male while the victim was refueling his vehicle.

State Police were dispatched Sunday Morning to a fatal motor vehicle crash on East Afton Road in the town of Bainbridge. An investigation at the scene determined that the 17-year-old female occupant was operating an SUV when she went off the roadway into an embankment, crossed a creek, striking several trees and coming to rest on the opposite side of the creek. The investigation is on-going.
The Sherburne Fire Department responded Monday to a house fire at 375 Blanding Road, multiple local fire fighters also responded. the structure was completely destroyed, the house was struck by lightning, no injuries were reported.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 48 year old John Jormack of Franklin has been indicted for 3 counts of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child, for allegedly engaging in sexual conduct with a child less than 11 years old and a child less than 13 years old in the Town of Franklin. Jormack is being held in the Delaware County Jail on $50,000 bail.
The State Commission on Judicial Conduct has determined that Justice Jeremy Persons of the Guilford Town Court. The Commission's decision stated that Person's offensive sexual comments in court, the gratuitous displays of a firearm, his failure to account for court funds, the disregard of his own traffic tickets, and his failure to cooperate with investigating entities, demonstrated his unfitness for judicial office.”
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 53 year old Matthew Knutsen of Otego following an accident investigation on April 13, 2023 in the Otego. Knutsen was charged with Aggravated DWI- Blood Alcohol Content .18 or higher, Consumption of Alcohol in Motor Vehicle, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent Moved from Lane Unsafely, & Failure to Keep Right Knutsen was issued an appearance tickets for the Otego Town Court on a later date.

The recently completed projects include Puckett Solar of Greene in Chenango County, which is a 20 MegaWatt solar facility developed and constructed by CS Energy and is owned by MN8 Energy.

Organizers also stated that there will also be a meet & greet with professional wrestler Kurt Angle from 3 to 6 pm. on Friday, and a Little Mermaid concert at 1 pm. on Saturday.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 38 year old Chad Ostrander of Grand Gorge was arraigned on a 5 count indictment for Attempted Assault of a Police Officer for trying to run down a police officer in Walton, Reckless endangerment for driving at more than 130 miles an hour during a police chase from Walton to Colchester, Criminal Mischief for kicking a door & engaging in a physical domestic dispute in front of a child. Ostrander pleaded not guilty to all 5 counts, & he was remanded back to the Delaware County Jail pending future court action.
Judge Rowan Wilson will be the new chief judge of the state's highest court, The Court of Appeals. Wilson's nomination was confirmed by the State Senate Tuesday.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Victoria Spataro of Oneonta following a traffic stop in the City of Oneonta. Spataro was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Driving While Intoxicated & Inadequate Lights, Spataro was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Oneonta City Court at a later date.

It's been 2 weeks since Anielle “AK” McEwan Lomnicki was hit by a car while walking home from from school in Sidney, an area fundraiser for medical expenses incurred by the family, while AK remains in a Syracuse Hospital, was conducted this past weekend, spokesperson Kim Ayres told WCDO News how much was raised:

Ayres said that the effort was spearheaded by Mike Gavin, his businesses, Gavin's Pizza, Machos Tacos & Tina's Old Fashioned Donuts, with Sidney Joe's Pizza, Club 55, Trackside Dining, Beez Kneez, Roasted Coffee House and Houndstooth also participated, more fundraisers are being planned and all legitimate fundraising efforts will be posted on the “AK Strong” Facebook page. Meanwhile, AK continues to be in a medically induced coma but has been slow but stead improvement, according to her father, Rich Lomnicki.
The Tri-Town Theatre will be performing the John Steinbeck Classic “Of Mice & Men” on Saturday March 11th at 7:30 PM & Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Sidney High School Auditorium, Theatre Spokesperson George Wells and Sarah Norris visited the WCDO Studios this morning & talked about the next production:

The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 26 year old Brandin VanTassel of Walton, New York pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Criminal Contempt, for intentionally violating an order of protection, by contacting the protected party by sending multiple text messages. VanTassel will be sentenced to serve 6 months in the Delaware County Correctional Facility, followed by 5 years of probation supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for March 27, at 9:00 A.M.

A.O. Fox Hospital and Bassett Healthcare Network announced today that FoxCare Fitness in Oneonta will be closing permanently as of June 1. Hospital and network leadership reached the decision following an extended period of declining membership and operational challenges, many of which are directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last day of operations at FoxCare Fitness will be May 31.

The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 26 year old Brandin VanTassel of Walton, New York pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Criminal Contempt, for intentionally violating an order of protection, by contacting the protected party by sending multiple text messages. VanTassel will be sentenced to serve 6 months in the Delaware County Correctional Facility, followed by 5 years of probation supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for March 27, at 9:00 A.M.

The State Department of Labor announced the adoption of the final farm labor overtime regulations, the phased-in, gradual reduction in the overtime pay threshold will begin on January 1, 2024, with the threshold set at 56 hours. According to the survey, 88% think heroin use is a serious public health problem, 90% site the use or misuse of prescription opioids, 92% said childhood obesity, 85% think tobacco use continues to be a major problem, 80% reported issues with health care access, 77% said alcohol consumption & 46% think marijuana are other serious health problems.

18-year-old Payton Gendron of Conklin was charged Wednesday by an Erie County Grand Jury with domestic terrorism motivated by hate and 10 counts of 1st-degree murder. Gendron has been in custody since the May 14th shooting at a Buffalo TOPS Supermarket, the 25-count indictment also contains charges of murder and attempted murder as a hate crime and weapons possession.
State Police responded to a report of a head-on collision involving an SUV and a Trailways bus on State Highway 23 in the town of Davenport. The only occupant of the SUV, a 65-year-old woman of Stamford, was pronounced deceased on scene. Her name is being withheld pending notifications to family. 5 people were on the bus, the driver is a 44-year-old woman of Astoria, and passenger who is a 59-year-old female of Hartwick were transported to Bassett Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 3 other passengers were not injured, The investigation is on-going.
A law introduced after the murder of Utica teen Bianca Devins has passed in the State Senate and Assembly. Bianca’s Law would create criminal and civil penalties for disseminating personal images of crime victims. In 2019, Bianca Devins was murdered by Brandon Clark in Utica, he posted photos of her body on social media, which were spread on various platforms and sent directly to members of her family. The law is headed to Governor Hochul’s desk for approval..

Attorney General Letitia James and the State Department of Taxation and Finance announced the arrest and arraignment of 60 year old Carl Carro of Walton, for failing to pay more than $75,000 in New York state taxes over the past 6 years, he was previously arrested for operating a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme. Carro is charged with multiple counts of Criminal Tax Fraud, Offering a False Instrument for Filing and Repeated Failure to File Personal Income Tax Returns, if convicted, he faces 10 to 20 years in state prison. Carro was arraigned in the village of Sidney court and was remanded pending a bail hearing.

Police in Cobleskill arrested 53 year old Raymond George for 1st degree manslaughter, for allegedly driving his vehicle into the Colonial Motel Tuesday, killing fellow Motel resident James Williams, following an argument. Police reported that 2 dogs were also killed in the incident, 11 people were displaced due to the structural damage to the building. George was arrested shortly after the incident nearby, Police determined that Williams had been sitting on a bench outside his room with his dogs, when he was struck; he was trapped in the wreckage and was pronounced dead at the scene. George was arraigned and ordered held without bail. State Police, Schoharie County Sheriff's Department, the Schoharie County District Attorney’s Office and state corrections officials assisted with the investigation.
According to preliminary figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor, the number of private sector jobs in New York State increased over the month by 17,500, or 0.2%, to 7,459,100 in May 2021. By comparison, the number of private sector jobs in the U.S. increased by 0.4% in May 2021. New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 8.2% to 7.8% in May 2021.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Joseph Santiago of Burlington following a traffic stop in the Town of Burlington on June 7th. Santiago was charged with Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument & Criminal Possession Controlled Substance. The Investigation revealed that Santiago, who was a passenger in the stopped vehicle, was wanted on an active bench warrant issued out of the Town of New Lisbon court, he was found to be in possession of numerous narcotics during the stop. Santiago was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on the bench warrant; he faces action in Town of Burlington court June 21st.

Frontier Communications reported 2 work vans missing from their property at 2 Oak Avenue in the Village of Sidney on Monday; the vans were recovered Tuesday in a wooded area outside the village. Sidney Police Department, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and State Police executed a search warrant of 5 Division Street in Sidney Wednesday; they arrested 47 year old Brian Kingsbury of Sidney & 24 year old Nikita Crumb of Sidney for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. Both were arraigned in the Village of Sidney court, Crumb was released on her own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date, Kingsbury was remanded to the Delaware County Jail. The investigation is on-going and more arrests are expected.
State Police continue to investigate a fatal hit and run involving a vehicle that struck 2 bicyclists on Route 26 in Cincinnatus. The deceased bicyclist is identified as 67 year old Kitt Warren of De Ruyter; the injured bicyclist is identified as 67 year old John Rutan of McGraw, who was taken to Upstate Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 2 other bicyclists were not injured and are identified as a 34-year-old female of Greene, and a 64-year-old male of Cincinnatus. The operator of the vehicle did not stop; the vehicle was located by a Cortland County Sheriff’s Deputy in the Town of Willet. The investigation is on-going; more will be released when it is available.
State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 14-year-old Anjelia Sturtevant was last seen at her residence in the town of Roseboom on Monday night. Anjelia was last seen wearing a pink camouflage pull over sweatshirt with a hood and may be carrying a white colored makeup bag with a gray pattern. Anjelia is 5’ 2" and weighs approximately 190 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown hair & multiple piercings. Anyone with information should call State Police at 561-7400.
Afton Fire fighters responded to a Commercial Building Fire at 175 Main Street last night, at the new Gavin's Pizza location that opened earlier that day. Afton received assistance from Harpursville, Masonville, Bainbridge & Coventry. Fire was located in the wall of the building, & was knocked down quickly; Mike Gavin told WCDO News that he hopes to be re-opening sometime next week.

Governor Cuomo today addressed the issue of upstate farmers dumping milk they can't sell & food banks unable to keep up with the demand for food & milk in areas of high unemployment since the Coronavirus issue began in Early March:

The Governor said that 4 companies will be assisting with that issue, including Chobani. Governor Cuomo announced Monday that the state has over 291,000 cases of the Coronavirus, 12,819 are hospitalized, another 337 people died Sunday, the state death toll up to 17,303.
The Broome County Health Department announced Monday that they now have 261 positive Coronavirus cases, they report 17 deaths, 117 recoveries & 254 people are quarantined.
Chenango County Public Health announced Sunday that they have 93 confirmed cases, with 115 quarantined, 6 Hospitalizations, 61 recoveries & 3 Total Deaths.
Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced more than $36 million for medical institutions in the 22nd district. Brindisi secured these funds through the bipartisan CARES Act. This is the second round of funding for the facilities and Brindisi vowed to fight for more dollars moving forward. Locally, Lourdes Hospital receives $6,599,000, Chenango Memorial Hospital gets $1,382,000 & the UHS Hospitals get $12,502,000
The State Board of Elections announced that they have canceled the state’s Democratic presidential primary on Monday, as the state cannot afford the potential of large gatherings at polling places in the face of the coronavirus epidemic. Senator Bernie Sanders & Former Vice President Joe Biden were the last 2 Democrats in the hunt, until Sanders dropped out & threw his support to Biden, making the June 23rd Primary unnecessary. 42 of the state's 62 counties will still have other Primary races to vote on at the June 23rd elections.

State Police also arrested 41 year old Derrick Gray of Laurens for his role in the convenience store robberies. Ruple and Gray were held at the Oneonta City Police Department lock up pending court action.

The State Department of Labor announced that it has distributed $3.1 billion in unemployment benefits to New Yorkers since the coronavirus pandemic started impacting New York businesses in early March. In total, more than 1.4 million New Yorkers have submitted completed applications for unemployment benefits since the crisis began, including traditional unemployment insurance and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.
