The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 55 year old Vladimir Suprunchik of Utica, for DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Moving from a lane Unsafely & among other charges, following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Unadilla, Suprunchik was located at the scene of the accident, he did not possess a valid driver’s license, he was processed on Appearance Tickets for Unadilla Town Court at a later date.
The US Food and Drug Administration announced 2 more recalls. Over 400,000 Pounds of Raww Energy Beef and Turkey Medley Dog food from New Jersey is being recalled due to possible Listeria contamination. Raaw Energy dog food is sold online and consumers are advised to go to their website for details of the recall. Also, Morning Star Farms has voluntarily recalled its Buffalo Chikn’n Nuggets and Hot and Spicy Sausage Patties, which may contain plastic in the food. FDA-recorded recalls hit a 9-year high this year with 571 recalls, primarily for bacterial contamination, to see which products are affected visit FDA.org.
The National Weather Service announced that they have already confirmed 6 tornadoes this year, after last Thursday's 2 confirmations in Cortland & in Yates County. The first tornado of 2026 in New York State was confirmed as an EF-1 in Cattaraugus County on March 31st, the 5 additional Tornadoes were in Upstate or Western New York Counties so far. Since 1990, the average has been 16.5 per year, with a record 25 tornadoes occurring in 1992.

State Police arrested 24 year old Tyler Russell of Endwell, for 6 counts of Manslaughter and 1 count of Arson in connection with Monday's Fire at the Knight's Inn of Endwell, where 6 people died, 2 were hospitalized and over 70 were left homeless. Russell was processed and was turned over to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment. Additional information, including the identities of the victims, will be released at a later time.
An Otsego County Grand Jury found 34-year-old Ryan Clark of Unadilla, also known as Tyler Clark, was guilty of rape, criminal sexual act and course of sexual conduct against a child. Clark's victims were under the ages of 15 and 13. Sentencing will be in Otsego County Court at a later date.
Today is Primary Election day around the State. Democrats will vote statewide for the Comptroller candidate between long time incumbent Tom DiNapoli and challengers Drew Warshaw and Raj Goyle. Broome County 911 Center received multiple reports of a fire at the Knights Inn, at 2603 East Main Street in Endwell, at about 6:00 AM today, a total of 6 fatalities have been confirmed. Additional information, including the identities of the victims, will be released at a later time, 2 others were taken to Wilson Medical Center. over 70 residents have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. A temporary shelter has been set up at the Vestal United Methodist Church. Endwell Fire Department arrived to find heavy black smoke in the front of the building and flames showing from the rear of the building. The fire spread rapidly, and multiple Fire Departments, ambulance crews and police agencies arrived on scene to assist. The New York State Office of Fire, the Broome County Office of Emergency Services, Broome County Mobile Crisis Response Team is on scene, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
State Police are reminding the public to follow State laws regarding e-bikes, e-scooters, and off-road electric motorcycles. E-bikes & E-scooters, Must be operated by riders 16 years or older, Helmets are required for riders ages 16 and 17, No sidewalk operation is allowed unless locally permitted, Riders must follow all traffic laws and yield to pedestrians, E-scooters limited to roads 30 mph or less. E-dirt bikes & off-highway electric motorcycles are Classified as off-highway motorcycles under State law, they are Not legal on public roads, sidewalks, bike paths, or parks unless fully registered, insured, and street legal, Most recreational models do not meet these requirements, Use is limited to private property with permission Parents or guardians may be subject to a charge of endangering the welfare of a child for non compliance.
State Attorney General Letitia James today released guidance to help New Yorkers understand their health insurance options and avoid scams as major changes to New York's Essential Plan take effect. Beginning July 1, 2026, New Yorkers enrolled in the Essential Plan with household incomes over 200 percent of the federal poverty level will no longer be eligible for that coverage, which translates to approximately 450,000 New Yorkers who are set to lose Essential Plan coverage. New Yorkers who enrolled in health insurance through New York State of Health can get free help renewing or changing coverage from New York State of Health-certified enrollment assistors by visiting nystateofhealth.ny.gov or calling 1-855-355-5777. Anyone who believes they have been misled, scammed, or improperly enrolled in a health insurance plan is encouraged to contact OAG's Health Care Helpline for assistance.

State Police arrested 56 year old Joel Salinas of Bainbridge following a traffic stop on Chenango County Road 35 last Tuesday. Troopers observed a vehicle committing multiple violations, initiated a traffic stop, Troopers observed a sawed-off shot gun and other illegal weapons, Salinas was driving to sell the shotgun, the investigation resulted in the seizure of several other illegally possessed weapons. Salinas was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Sale of a Firearm, he was processed & transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
Sidney Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire with smoke and flames visible Friday night at about 7:00 PM at 826 Circle Drive, heavy smoke was showing from the ridge of the roof. Sidney firefighters launched an aggressive interior and exterior attack and contained the fire to one apartment. Assistance was provided by Masonville, Unadilla, Sidney Center, Oneonta, Guilford & Harpursville fire departments, no injuries were reported, Sidney was back in service at about 8:30PM.
The National Weather Service announced that their survey teams confirmed 2 tornadoes Thursday, an EF-1 just south of Rock Stream in Yates County & an EF-0 near Cortland, other locations were surveyed in Cortland County, though it was determined that strong winds were the cause of damage east of where the tornado lifted.

Delaware Valley Humane Society reported that Waste Recovery Enterprises donated $2689.79 from the latest Heavy Metal Haul Out campaign. The Next drive will be in September, where people can leave scrap metal at a bin across from WRE on Valley View Road.

27-year-old Hamail Waddell pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Burglary, Assault and Tampering with a Witness. On May 24th, Waddell and another individual, unlawfully entered the home of his ex-girlfriend on Morgan Road in Binghamton, which violated a No Contact Order of Protection, Waddell assaulted another man, causing physical injuries, When officers attempted to arrest him, Waddell also attacked a Binghamton Police Officer, injuring the officer, at the Broome County Jail on June 24th, Waddell made a recorded phone call to a protected party. Waddell will be sentenced to 6 1/2 years in State Prison, followed by 4 years of post-release supervision.
A new report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli examined healthcare professional shortages in 16 rural counties and found alarming shortfalls in primary care, pediatric, and obstetrician and OBGYN doctors, plus dentists and mental health practitioners, with several counties having none of those specialized Doctors at all. The rural counties examined included Chenango and Delaware Counties, on average, the counties have 4 primary care physicians per 10,000 people, which is less than half the state & US averages and falls below established guidelines. The Counties have 0.5 pediatricians for every 10,000 people, less than one-fifth of the state ratio. The reports states that Tele-medicine & Mobile clinics could be deployed on a regular schedule to help under-served rural communities, also expanding School-based health centers are another option to expand healthcare access to rural New York.

During the annual Colorscape Chenango festival on September 7th, the Chenango County Historical Society will again host a series of tours featuring historically significant community spaces. The “Historic Architecture in the Chenango County Seat” walking tour, will be led by architectural historian Bryan McCracken, Beginning at 12:30 pm., in front of the Chenango County Courthouse in Norwich. The “Local Treasures Revealed” building tour, will begin at 2:00 PM, led by Will MacGuire, in the Live Event NY Showroom at 1 South Broad Street in Norwich. Norwich City officials announced Sunday that the Boil water was lifted, after announcing that E. coli bacteria was found in the City water supply late last week. E. coli bacteria were found in 1 out of 11 drinking water samples collected on August 6th, Coliform bacteria were found in 3 out of 11 drinking water samples collected. The State Department of Health considers any confirmed E. coli positive sample as a public health hazard and a violation of drinking water standards. After repeated sampling, the results meet the minimum standards for public water supplies, If residents experience some discoloring in the water, run the water until it clears. Local government sales tax collections totaled $11.9 billion in the first half of 2025, an increase of 3.7% compared to last year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. 86% of counties experienced a year-over-year increase in first-half collections, with Hamilton County seeing the highest growth at 14.6%, followed by the counties of Delaware (12.9%), Orleans (12.1%) and Chenango (11.7%). Nearly 75% of cities outside of New York City that impose their own sales tax experienced growth in the first half, with Norwich having the largest increase at 19.3%.
The Chenango County Historical Society is inviting interested parties to take part in this year's “Parade of Trees,” ahead of the Holiday Open House on December 7, Society President Jessica Moquin explains:

State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a horse stolen from a property in the Endicott area. The horse is a neutered male, He is grey with flecks of red and has a darker muzzle. The Horse named "Koda" has dietary issues & was taken from a fenced in property on Struble Road in the town of Union sometime between July 23 and July 24. Anyone with information is urged to call the New York State Police at (607)561-7400, a picture of the horse is available at troopers.ny.gov.

The horse is a neutered male, He is grey with flecks of red and has a darker muzzle. The Horse named "Koda" has dietary issues & was taken from a fenced in property on Struble Road in the town of Union sometime between July 23 and July 24. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Thomas Kopech of Norwich Friday on an active Arrest Warrant from Town of Plymouth Court from an incident on May 31st, where Kopech allegedly broke into a residence in the Town of Plymouth and assaulted the victims inside the home. Kopech then fled the scene before Deputies responded which resulted in the warrant of arrest. Kopech was arrested without incident and arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail. Kopec is to appear in court on a later date. Kopech was charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Sexual Abuse, Criminal Obstruction of Breath/Blood Circulation & Unlawful Imprisonment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 27 year old Derek Mead of Walton for with 1 count each of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Assault and Unlawful Imprisonment, following the investigation into a domestic dispute last Tuesday in the Village of Walton. Mead is accused of being involved in a physical domestic dispute with another person while a child was present. Mead was processed and was turned over to Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.

Warren County 911 received a call from 45 year old Luciano Frattolin of Canada, reporting his 9-year-old daughter Melina Frattolin was missing, with a possible abduction, in Lake George. As the case progressed, law enforcement identified inconsistencies in the father’s account of events and the timeline he provided. The girl was found dead in Ticonderoga, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office has turned the investigation over to State Police. Luciano Frattolin, has been arrested and is currently being held at the Essex County Jail, Luciano Frattolin, the father of Melina Frattolin, was charged with second-degree murder and concealing of a corpse, The investigation is ongoing,
State Police are investigating the accidental death of a East Branch Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Jason McGlone Thursday night, who was responding to a report of a vehicle that had struck a utility pole on State Highway 30 in the town of Hancock. A preliminary investigation determined that a low-hanging electrical wire was in contact with the top of the fire truck, when Assistant Chief McGlone exited the vehicle and made contact with the metal door and the ground, he was electrocuted and was pronounced deceased. The original crash involved a pickup truck operated by 54 year old Joseph Bellows of Downsville that veered off the roadway, struck a guardrail and utility pole. He was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital, he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated & was issued appearance tickets for Hancock Town Court on September 8th, 2025. The investigation into the firefighter’s death remains ongoing.
Milford Fire Department and several other area Fire Departments responded Friday morning to a structure fire at the Milford Corner Store, 69 South Main Street. The fire spread to surrounding buildings, including a the retail building next door & 2 nearby residences; 2 Milford firefighters were able to rescue an occupant who was trapped on the 2nd floor of one of the involved residential buildings, the patient was treated & released at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown for smoke inhalation, 2 firefighters sustained minor injuries, and were evaluated at the scene & released.
Sidney EMS & State Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Delaware County Route 4 in Sidney, initial reports suggested that a vehicle rolled off the roadway with 3 possible injuries Sunday at about 5:40 PM Sunday, injured occupants were taken to area hospitals for the treatment of injuries, the cause of the crash is under investigation, The Operator was identified as 20 year old Kadance Maus of Walton.

37 year old Paul Fontana, Jr. of Delhi pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Delaware County Court Monday. Fontana appeared for a scheduled suppression hearing, prior to the hearing, he pleaded guilty in order to satisfy an indictment which alleged that Fontana had illegally possessed 10 or more firearms, including “ghost guns” in his home. The Village of Delhi Police and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded after a complaint was lodged that Fontana was making threats to harm himself and others. Fontana will be sentenced to serve 6 years in state prison, and an additional 5 years of post-release supervision.

State Police arrested 72 year old Thomas Jacobson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for DWI & Reckless Driving. Troopers received information that a vehicle was traveling the wrong way on State Route 17, they located the vehicle, traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes near Deposit. Troopers attempted to flag down the driver from the opposite lanes but were unable to gain his attention, Jacobson stopped near mile marker 274 in the town of Sanford when another vehicle blocked the roadway. Jacobson was arrested, his BAC was .17%. He was issued appearance tickets to the Sanford Town Court on August 2nd.
Otsego County Public Health will hold a free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats & ferrets this evening, at Clifton Park in Unadilla, the clinic will run from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

On July 3, State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Chenango and Otsego Counties. During the initiative, 10 businesses were checked for compliance. All ten were found in compliance and did not sell any alcohol to the underage operative, in Norwich, Oxford, Greene, Smithville Flats & Morris. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth. State police also announced that 22 people were arrested for DWI, from June 28th to July 5th in Troop c.

Tourism in New York state has grown post-pandemic but employment in tourism-related industries remains 4.3% below pre-pandemic levels, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The report found strong increases in domestic and international travelers to the state, visitors flocked to outdoor destinations, with attendance at state parks 9.1% higher in 2023 than 2020. During the pandemic, New York lost $10.9 billion in economic activity from travel and tourism, but by 2023, had fully recovered, and was $792 million higher than in 2019. Tourism generated $34 billion in direct economic activity and provided almost 417,000 jobs statewide in 2023, ranking New York second behind California in tourism.

Ransford was released on an appearance ticket and directed to appear at the Town of Stamford court to answer the charge.
The Otsego County Solid Waste Department, Otsego County Conservation Association, and Casella announced that the Film Plastic Recycling Challenge is back, where area schools recycle plastic bags and other plastic film items which cannot be recycled through regular recycling programs. The challenge focuses on collecting clean, dry, plastic film to help keep it out of the landfill. The challenge November 15th until April 24th, Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2024.
Governor Hochul's office announced that work is officially underway to transform the Greater Binghamton Airport into a modern, state-of-the-art facility. The project calls for the Redevelopment of the Airport Road approach, Construction of a new canopy and entry portals, Reconfiguration of the ticketing lobby, baggage claim area and relocation of rental car counters, New parking revenue control system & the Construction of a new Customs and Border Protection Facility.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced a new emergency order that prevents New York City residents from using housing vouchers in Broome County. County officials said the vouchers are part of a New York City program which provides a housing allowance to eligible city families in a shelter or who are homeless. Garnar previously issued an executive order earlier this year that allowed for law enforcement to order busses with migrants to turn back around & not stop in Broome County, as the County was facing its own housing issues.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar and Undersheriff Sam Davis welcomed K9 Raven to the Sheriff's Office today. K9 Raven and her partner and handler, Deputy Thomas Holden have undergone extensive training at Cedar Creek Kennels in Illinois over the past few weeks and are set to conclude their training this month. Raven is a female German Shepherd trained in tracking, protection, drug detection and other skills needed for law enforcement K-9 units.
A new survey on school safety has been released that places New York State near the bottom, ranking 45th out of 50 for overall student safety. Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Johnnie Hardwick of Binghamton pleaded guilty to Attempted Robbery, in Broome County Court. Hardwick admitted that on October 21st 2022, he entered Weis Markets on Pennsylvania Avenue in Binghamton and stole merchandise, when confronted by a store employee Hardwick pulled out a large knife threatening the worker. Hardwick was apprehended by the Binghamton Police Department a short time later. Hardwick had a lengthy criminal record, including for Sexual Abuse in 2011 and Attempted Robbery in 2002 in New York City, he will face 12 years to life in New York State prison on April 26th,
The Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will host a Community Cat Forum Thursday, beginning at 4:00 PM at the Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center, 24 Market St., Oneonta. Susquehanna SPCA Executive Director Stacie Haynes told WCDO News that the event is to address the issues of Feral cats in large numbers in many area communities & how to deal with the issue:

Preliminary Information regarding this morning's Earthquake has been released by the U.S. Geological Survey, showed that the earthquake registered a magnitude 3.8 on the Richter Scale, it was centered about near West Seneca at 6:15 AM. More information is available at earthquake.usgs.gov.
Local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $22.1 billion in calendar year 2022, up 12.7%, or $2.5 billion, from 2021 due to strong sales statewide, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Every county saw some year-over-year growth in sales tax collections in 2022, Yates County had the strongest growth at 21.1%, followed by the counties of Lewis (14.9%), Montgomery (12.4%) and Schoharie (11.8%). WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull started a Scholarship for area High School Seniors last year, with a couple of fundraisers held to raise funds for the desired amounts for the scholarships. Lull said that the fundraisers were successful and now it the time for interested seniors to apply:

Ward was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle for allegedly operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with a suspended driver’s license, he was ordered to appear in Town of Otego Court at a later date.

Vestal Police arrested 31 year old Zeke Wilmarth of Binghamton for Attempted Murder, following a stabbing on Garden Lane Sunday. Police found the victim with multiple stab wounds & other injuries; she was taken to an area hospital and was in critical condition, the investigation is continuing, Wilmarth faces court action shortly.
Governor Cuomo signed a bill today that would overturn an outdated law that was rarely enforced. The bill will allow New Yorkers to get a haircut at a barbershop or salon on Sundays.
Binghamton Mayor Richard David announced his intentions today to run for the 52nd District State Senate seat in 2022. The State Senate Seat will be available next year after current State Senator Fred Akshar's announced that he would run for Broome County Sheriff, instead of for re-election to the State Senate.

State Police are investigating multiple burglaries at seasonal residences in Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties. 23 year old Christopher Youngs of the town of Maryland and 27 year old John Clark of Morris have been charged with 2nd degree Burglary and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property for burglaries in Otsego and Delaware counties. Youngs was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond. Clark was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing; anyone with information should contact State Police at Troop C in Sidney at 561-7400.
State Police arrested 33 year old Johnny Rivera of South Glens Falls for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, following an accident on Delaware County Road 4 in the Town of Sidney. A trooper found an unoccupied Rent-A-Center Van that crashed into the guide rail, which had been reported stolen from Glens Falls, Rivera was walking away from the scene, he was taken to Tri-Town Hospital for the treatment of injuries then he was arraigned in Sidney Town Court & was released on his own recognizance and scheduled to reappear on July 22nd.
Sidney Police Department arrested 66 year old Paul Ferron of Sidney for Aggravated unlicensed operation in the 1st degree, Aggravated DWI with a BAC .18 or greater, Driving while intoxicated, and several tickets for traffic infractions following a recent traffic stop. Ferron was released on appearance tickets to appear in Village of Sidney Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded last Thursday to a reported violation of a temporary order of protection in East Branch, 51 year-old Thomas Newman of Hancock is accused making written contact with the protected party & for allegedly swerving his vehicle towards the protected party, who was walking along State Highway 30. Newman was charged with 2 counts of criminal contempt & 1 count of harassment, he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on Cash Bail pending court action.
