27-year-old Hamail Waddell pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Burglary, Assault and Tampering with a Witness. On May 24th, Waddell and another individual, unlawfully entered the home of his ex-girlfriend on Morgan Road in Binghamton, which violated a No Contact Order of Protection, Waddell assaulted another man, causing physical injuries, When officers attempted to arrest him, Waddell also attacked a Binghamton Police Officer, injuring the officer, at the Broome County Jail on June 24th, Waddell made a recorded phone call to a protected party. Waddell will be sentenced to 6 1/2 years in State Prison, followed by 4 years of post-release supervision.


A new report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli examined healthcare professional shortages in 16 rural counties and found alarming shortfalls in primary care, pediatric, and obstetrician and OBGYN doctors, plus dentists and mental health practitioners, with several counties having none of those specialized Doctors at all. The rural counties examined included Chenango and Delaware Counties, on average, the counties have 4 primary care physicians per 10,000 people, which is less than half the state & US averages and falls below established guidelines. The Counties have 0.5 pediatricians for every 10,000 people, less than one-fifth of the state ratio. The reports states that Tele-medicine & Mobile clinics could be deployed on a regular schedule to help under-served rural communities, also expanding School-based health centers are another option to expand healthcare access to rural New York.

During the annual Colorscape Chenango festival on September 7th, the Chenango County Historical Society will again host a series of tours featuring historically significant community spaces. The “Historic Architecture in the Chenango County Seat” walking tour, will be led by architectural historian Bryan McCracken, Beginning at 12:30 pm., in front of the Chenango County Courthouse in Norwich. The “Local Treasures Revealed” building tour, will begin at 2:00 PM, led by Will MacGuire, in the Live Event NY Showroom at 1 South Broad Street in Norwich. Norwich City officials announced Sunday that the Boil water was lifted, after announcing that E. coli bacteria was found in the City water supply late last week. E. coli bacteria were found in 1 out of 11 drinking water samples collected on August 6th, Coliform bacteria were found in 3 out of 11 drinking water samples collected. The State Department of Health considers any confirmed E. coli positive sample as a public health hazard and a violation of drinking water standards. After repeated sampling, the results meet the minimum standards for public water supplies, If residents experience some discoloring in the water, run the water until it clears. Local government sales tax collections totaled $11.9 billion in the first half of 2025, an increase of 3.7% compared to last year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. 86% of counties experienced a year-over-year increase in first-half collections, with Hamilton County seeing the highest growth at 14.6%, followed by the counties of Delaware (12.9%), Orleans (12.1%) and Chenango (11.7%). Nearly 75% of cities outside of New York City that impose their own sales tax experienced growth in the first half, with Norwich having the largest increase at 19.3%.


The Chenango County Historical Society is inviting interested parties to take part in this year's “Parade of Trees,” ahead of the Holiday Open House on December 7, Society President Jessica Moquin explains:

Moquin said that the “People’s Choice” contest, will return with both in-person and virtual visitors voting for their favorite decorated tree by making a donation to that organization’s tree. State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a horse stolen from a property in the Endicott area. The horse is a neutered male, He is grey with flecks of red and has a darker muzzle. The Horse named "Koda" has dietary issues & was taken from a fenced in property on Struble Road in the town of Union sometime between July 23 and July 24. Anyone with information is urged to call the New York State Police at (607)561-7400, a picture of the horse is available at troopers.ny.gov.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Thomas Kopech of Norwich Friday on an active Arrest Warrant from Town of Plymouth Court from an incident on May 31st, where Kopech allegedly broke into a residence in the Town of Plymouth and assaulted the victims inside the home. Kopech then fled the scene before Deputies responded which resulted in the warrant of arrest. Kopech was arrested without incident and arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail. Kopec is to appear in court on a later date. Kopech was charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Sexual Abuse, Criminal Obstruction of Breath/Blood Circulation & Unlawful Imprisonment.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 27 year old Derek Mead of Walton for with 1 count each of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Assault and Unlawful Imprisonment, following the investigation into a domestic dispute last Tuesday in the Village of Walton. Mead is accused of being involved in a physical domestic dispute with another person while a child was present. Mead was processed and was turned over to Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.


State Police will have 3 Car Seat Safety Checks this week, Technicians will be in Whitney Point Tuesday from 4 pm. – 7 pm. at 2612 Liberty Street, on Wednesday, from 4 pm. 7 pm. & Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Broome County Fair, at the Whitney Point Fairgrounds. Warren County 911 received a call from 45 year old Luciano Frattolin of Canada, reporting his 9-year-old daughter Melina Frattolin was missing, with a possible abduction, in Lake George. As the case progressed, law enforcement identified inconsistencies in the father’s account of events and the timeline he provided. The girl was found dead in Ticonderoga, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office has turned the investigation over to State Police. Luciano Frattolin, has been arrested and is currently being held at the Essex County Jail, Luciano Frattolin, the father of Melina Frattolin, was charged with second-degree murder and concealing of a corpse, The investigation is ongoing,


State Police are investigating the accidental death of a East Branch Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Jason McGlone Thursday night, who was responding to a report of a vehicle that had struck a utility pole on State Highway 30 in the town of Hancock. A preliminary investigation determined that a low-hanging electrical wire was in contact with the top of the fire truck, when Assistant Chief McGlone exited the vehicle and made contact with the metal door and the ground, he was electrocuted and was pronounced deceased. The original crash involved a pickup truck operated by 54 year old Joseph Bellows of Downsville that veered off the roadway, struck a guardrail and utility pole. He was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital, he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated & was issued appearance tickets for Hancock Town Court on September 8th, 2025. The investigation into the firefighter’s death remains ongoing.


Milford Fire Department and several other area Fire Departments responded Friday morning to a structure fire at the Milford Corner Store, 69 South Main Street. The fire spread to surrounding buildings, including a the retail building next door & 2 nearby residences; 2 Milford firefighters were able to rescue an occupant who was trapped on the 2nd floor of one of the involved residential buildings, the patient was treated & released at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown for smoke inhalation, 2 firefighters sustained minor injuries, and were evaluated at the scene & released.


Sidney EMS & State Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Delaware County Route 4 in Sidney, initial reports suggested that a vehicle rolled off the roadway with 3 possible injuries Sunday at about 5:40 PM Sunday, injured occupants were taken to area hospitals for the treatment of injuries, the cause of the crash is under investigation, The Operator was identified as 20 year old Kadance Maus of Walton.
