The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign continues through January 1st. The campaign includes DWI checkpoints and patrols, with officers also monitoring for speeding, distracted driving and violations of the Move Over Law. Last year, Law Enforcement issued 129,686 tickets statewide. Also, Temporary lane closures for road and bridge projects on State highways will be suspended through Monday morning, and will start again at 6:00 AM on Wednesday, December 31 to Monday morning January 5th.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old Gregory Haggerty of South New Berlin, for DWI, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a BAC of .08 or higher, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Failure to Keep Right & several other charges, following a reported accident in the Town of Morris. Haggerty fled the scene on foot, Deputies located the vehicle down an embankment off of State Highway 23 and Wells Rd. Haggerty was located down the road and found to be intoxicated by alcohol, he was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for arrest processing & was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Morris Court at a later date.
The New York Lottery announced 2 second-prize-winning tickets were sold for the December 24th Powerball drawing, 1 ticket was sold at Smiley's on West Main Street in Sidney & another in Lindenhurst, worth $1,000,000. The Powerball drawing is televised every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 pm. 1 ticket sold in Arkansas that matched all six numbers, for a prize of $1.8 billion dollars, which ranks as the 2nd-largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever won.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Deposit Fire Department responded to a house fire in the Town of Sanford. A candle had accidentally caught a chair on fire in a single family residence. The fire was able to be extinguished by the resident prior to crews arriving on scene. 20 home candle fires are reported each day across the country, If you use open flame candles, make sure they are in stable holders and place them where they cannot be knocked down easily. Keep them at least 12 inches away from anything that burns and be sure to blow out all candles when you leave a room or home, or when you go to bed.

40 year old Mark Archer of Sidney pleaded guilty to 3 counts of Sexual Abuse in Delaware County Court Thursday. Archer was indicted by a Grand Jury on 12 counts related to sexual abuse against 3 victims were less than 13 years old between 2013 and 2019 in the Village of Sidney, Archer will be sentenced to 13.5 years in state prison and 30 years of post-release supervision, he will be required to register as a sex offender after prison & he is prohibited from contacting his victims.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 18-year-old Kayden Wilcox of East Meredith, in June, Deputies received a complaint that a male subject was in possession of child pornography, Investigators responded to a residence in the Town of Kortright to seize electronic evidence. Wilcox was in possession of obscene sexual material of a child, the Sheriff’s Office arrested Wilcox on 1 count of Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, he was released on an appearance ticket and directed to return to the Town of Kortright Court at a later date.
Mohawk Valley Gives, an annual one-day on-line fundraiser, returns today, it is hosted locally by the Community Foundation of Otsego County, where more than 80 participating Otsego County nonprofits will have the opportunity to raise funds with a secure online platform. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded on August 20th, to a 2 car motor vehicle accident in the Town of Sidney, in which one driver had reportedly left the scene. With the assistance of the Village of Sidney Police Department, the driver was identified as 38-year-old Joshua Crisell of Sidney, and the vehicle was located at a residence in Sidney. Deputies charged Crisell with Reckless Driving, driving to left of pavement markings, failure to keep right and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Crisell was released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Sidney Town Court at a later date.
State Police issued 109 tickets during a four-hour long Operation Hard Hat detail within a work zone on Interstate 81 in the town of Chenango Thursday. The detail was a combined effort with the State Police and the Broome County Sheriff’s Department, Crews from the DOT were repairing the bridge rail over Front Street. The area is a 55mph zone and just the left lane was closed, while two others were still open to accommodate traffic. Troopers charged 27 for using cell phones while driving, 36 for speeding, 27 for no seat belt, 19 other cvarious tickets were issued.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 50 year old Adam Zuk of Masonville for his non-compliance to Family Court Order of Protection. On August 18th, Deputies o served Zuk with a Delaware County Family Court Order of Protection, he was advised that he needed to vacate the property, Zuk failed to comply, he was charged with Criminal Contempt, he was processed, arraigned & was released on his own recognizance. On August 20th, Deputies were advised that Zuk had attempted to make telephone contact with the protected party, he was charged with Criminal Contempt, he was arraigned and was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail and $10,000 bond.

Oneonta Police Department concluded their investigation into the report of a deceased female on the railroad tracks early Sunday. An employee of Norfolk Southern Railroad reported the deceased female, Officers from the Oneonta Police Department, State Police and Otsego County District Attorney’s Office & the Otsego County Coroner responded, Investigators learned a 61-year-old female from Pennsylvania became stranded in the Town of Oneonta Saturday, Her vehicle was towed to a garage and she was given a courtesy ride by the Tow Company to a local convenience store. Investigators later learned that the woman ha d history of mental distress. She was reported missing by family Saturday, about 10 hours later, video surveillance showed the woman walking on the railway, at about 3:49 am, moments later a train arrived & video depicts the female laying on the tracks at the time the train passes. The case is being ruled a suicide & the name of the deceased is not being released.
State Department of Labor released local unemployment rates for February, The State's unemployment rate was 4.3% in February, locally, Chenango County had 4.6%, Delaware County 5.2% and Otsego had 5.4% unemployment in February.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 58 year old Frederick Clarkson of McDonough for Strangulation, Criminal Mischief, Assault and Menacing, following a Domestic Dispute. Clarkson is accused of causing physical injury, menaced the victim with a blunt object, strangled the victim and took the victim’s phone preventing them from calling 911. Clarkson fled the scene prior to Deputies arriving and was later located in the City of Norwich and was taken into custody without incident, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on no bail.
State Police assisted the Susquehanna SPCA with securely removing several animals at properties located on Clark Lane and Pig Farm Lane in the town of New Berlin, after information was developed that the owner of the properties was violating a court order by possessing animals. 3 cows, 1 sheep, 3 dogs and 15 cats were removed and transported to the Susquehanna SPCA. Almost a year ago, over two dozen animals were located deceased and over 100 neglected animals were removed from the same property, 4 people were charged with numerous felonies and misdemeanors from the Agriculture and Markets Law, As a result of court proceedings, the owner of the property was not to own or possess any animals.
Village of Sidney announced that due to a tie on the voting last month for the Village Board of Trustees, a special election will beheld today to break the tie between Patricia Cristelli & Luther Higley, who each had 44 votes. Oneonta Police Department concluded their investigation into the report of a deceased female on the railroad tracks early Sunday. An employee of Norfolk Southern Railroad reported the deceased female, Officers from the Oneonta Police Department, State Police and Otsego County District Attorney’s Office & the Otsego County Coroner responded, Investigators learned a 61-year-old female from Pennsylvania became stranded in the Town of Oneonta Saturday, Her vehicle was towed to a garage and she was given a courtesy ride by the Tow Company to a local convenience store. Investigators later learned that the woman ha d history of mental distress. She was reported missing by family Saturday, about 10 hours later, video surveillance showed the woman walking on the railway, at about 3:49 am, moments later a train arrived & video depicts the female laying on the tracks at the time the train passes. The case is being ruled a suicide & the name of the deceased is not being released.
State Department of Labor released local unemployment rates for February, The State's unemployment rate was 4.3% in February, locally, Chenango County had 4.6%, Delaware County 5.2% and Otsego had 5.4% unemployment in February.

Affected residents can call the Disaster Hotline at 800- 339-1759 For Insurance-Related Questions. The State Department of Agriculture and Markets Encourages Affected Farms to Contact U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency to Report Damage. The National Weather Service in Binghamton determined the tornado was an EF2, with maximum winds of 115 mph. The tornado traveled 10 miles with a maximum width of 300 yards.
Law Enforcement Agencies around the state are participating in "Operation Safe Stop Day" today, where police officers are checking to see if motorists are stopping for school busses with their flashing lights on, picking up or dropping off students. It is estimated that 50-thousand New Yorkers illegally pass stopped school buses each day that school is in session. Penalties for a first-time offense include a fine of up to 400 dollars, five points on a person's drivers license and possibly 30 days in jail.

The family of Jorge Jimenez, who was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by former Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim in February 2019, has agreed to settle a lawsuit against Boeheim. Terms of the settlement will remain sealed, Jimenez was a passenger in a car that that skidded on Interstate 690 and hit a guardrail. Boeheim was driving home after a game when he swerved to avoid the car and hit Jimenez, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Boeheim was not charged by police investigating the crash.

Packer was charged with Strangulation, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Criminal Mischief, Harassment, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & Petty Larceny, he is being held in the Otsego County Jail pending arraignment.

Deputies were patrolling Sunday on State Highway 30 in the Town of Colchester, they conducted a traffic stop, Pitre was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Failure to turn in License Plate to DMV, Failure to Notify DMV of Address Change, and several other lesser charges, she was released on the traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date to answer the charge.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 40 year old Denise Wells of Herkimer was convicted of 1 count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, in the Town of Delhi Court Wednesday. Wells was charged after driving erratically through Delhi on December 12th of last year, she eventually drove off the road on State Highway 10, she was under the influence of heroin. Wells was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge, she was also ordered to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, attend and complete an Impaired Driver Program, and attend a Victim Impact Panel, her license was revoked for 6 months, and she was ordered to pay $900 in fines & fees.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand laid out some of her priorities in the Senate, as the negotiations continue for the next 5 year farm bill, which she said will address rising concerns about inflationary food prices, supply chain issues & millions GOING Without sufficient food:

Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a physical injury domestic dispute in the Town of Union. 66 year old Brian Sanks of the Town of Union, had attempted to smother his Girlfriend in her sleep, threatened to shoot her with a pistol, and threatened to use a taser baton on her. Sanks was taken into custody by deputies and an Extreme Risk Protection Order was subsequently issued, several weapons & drug paraphernalia were removed from Sanks residence. Sanks was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, he was arraigned and has remained in custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

19 year old Payton Gendron of Conklin is expected to plead guilty Monday in Erie County Court, for fatally shooting 10 people & injuring 3 others, in a racist attack on a buffalo Tops Supermarket in a predominantly Black Neighborhood May 14th. Gendron was charged in federal and state courts with multiple counts of murder and hate crimes, he is being held pending the court appearances.
The Village of Sidney Police Department arrested 36 year old Thomas Wright of Oxford and 36 year old Troy Dibble of Oxford, on Burglary & Grand Larceny Charges, following an investigation of a burglary of a house on Patterson Street in Sidney. A car trailer, 2 ATV's & a number of Tools were taken from the property, it was located in the town of Oxford and the 2 men were arrested. 19 year old Payton Gendron of Conklin is expected to plead guilty Monday in Erie County Court, for fatally shooting 10 people & injuring 3 others, in a racist attack on a buffalo Tops Supermarket in a predominantly Black Neighborhood May 14th. Gendron was charged in federal and state courts with multiple counts of murder and hate crimes, he is being held pending the court appearances.

Moussa is accused of utilizing forged documents and licenses to buy and sell vehicles for profit. A search warrant was executed at the defendant's residence where numerous other forged documents were located and seized, he is being held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending Court action.

Sidney Police responded to a trespassing complaint on March 17th at a vacant home on Ritton Street in the Village. During the investigation it was learned that a male involved in the case had an active arrest warrant issued by Delaware County Family Court. 41 year old James Nash was arrested on a Delaware County Family Court warrant & was then turned over to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.
Wegmans has issued a voluntary recall for select store brand pre-cut fruit due to possible listeria contamination.
