State Police arrested 49 year old James Crosby of Binghamton following an investigation into an alleged threatening social media comment directed at New York State Senator Lea Webb. Crosby was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat as a Hate Crime, The investigation determined that Crosby posted a threatening comment on Facebook in response to a WBNG news story featuring Senator Webb at a Juneteenth event. Crosby was transported to the Broome County Jail for centralized arraignment. State Police also determined that Crosby was in possession of firearms despite being prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction, Police Investigators recovered a rifle, a large capacity ammunition feeding device, and a firearm suppressor, all of which are prohibited under New York State law. Crosby was additionally charged with four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, class “D” felonies.
The United States Attorney's Office announced that 20 year old Jerry Butler of Walton pleaded guilty in US District Court to receiving child pornography. Butler admitted that in January and February 2025, he used a social media messaging application to receive child sexual abuse material from an out-of-state minor victim. Butler exchanged approximately 20,000 messages with the victim in which Butler persuaded the victim to create and send him sexually explicit depictions of herself, or he would publicly embarrass her if she did not comply with his demands. Butler faces a term of imprisonment of at least 5 years and up to 20 years in prison when sentenced in October, he also faces a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life. Butler will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 51 year old Anthony Sawyer of Norwich Monday following an investigation into a Domestic incident. Deputies responded for a disorderly conduct complaint in progress, deputies determined that Sawyer had allegedly been involved in a domestic dispute with family members, while intoxicated, he is accused of pointing a rifle at multiple victims, that Sawyer had operated an ATV on a public roadway while intoxicated Sawyer was charged with 4 counts of Menacing, plus 1 count each of Reckless Endangerment, Endangering the Welfare of a child and DWI, he was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 20 year old Cristian Navarro Guerrero of Staten Island pleaded guilty In Delhi Town Court to 1 count of Criminal Mischief for an incident On April 15, where SUNY Delhi University Police received a report of a broken window at the first-floor entrance to Catskill Hall. After viewing security camera footage, Navarro Guerrero was identified and arrested without incident, he was placed on 1 year of interim probation. Sentencing was adjourned for one year to see how the Navarro- Guerrero performs on probation.

Primary election results have been released, Democrats voted for incumbent Comptroller Tom DiNapoli in a landslide over 2 challengers, Locally Democrats in the 102nd Assembly District chose Janet Tweed over 2 other candidates. In the Republican Primaries locally,New York's 19th Congressional District, Peter Oberacker won the Republican primary, advancing to the November general election to face incumbent Josh Riley, in the 51st State Senate Republican Primary, Chris Tague was the winner, for Otsego County Sheriff, Incumbent Rich Devlin & Mike Stalter were in a virtual tie with some votes still to be counted, In Afton, Town Supervisor John Lawrence wins the Republican Primary.
Former Delaware County Deputy Timothy Tryon pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Petty larceny, for stealing items from the Oneonta Walmart. Tryon was convicted June 18th in Oneonta Town Court, He was fined $500, ordered to pay restitution, and is no longer employed by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

Broome County 911 Center received multiple reports of a fire at the Knights Inn, at 2603 East Main Street in Endwell, at about 6:00 AM today, a total of 6 fatalities have been confirmed. Additional information, including the identities of the victims, will be released at a later time, 2 others were taken to Wilson Medical Center. over 70 residents have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. A temporary shelter has been set up at the Vestal United Methodist Church. Endwell Fire Department arrived to find heavy black smoke in the front of the building and flames showing from the rear of the building. The fire spread rapidly, and multiple Fire Departments, ambulance crews and police agencies arrived on scene to assist. The New York State Office of Fire, the Broome County Office of Emergency Services, Broome County Mobile Crisis Response Team is on scene, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Tomorrow is is Primary Election day around the State. Democrats will vote statewide for the Comptroller candidate between long time incumbent Tom DiNapoli and challengers Drew Warshaw and Raj Goyle. Locally Democrats in the 102nd Assembly District will decide between 3 candidates, Thomas Boomhower, Janet Tweed & Mary Finneran. State Police arrested 56 year old Joel Salinas of Bainbridge following a traffic stop on Chenango County Road 35 last Tuesday. Troopers observed a vehicle committing multiple violations, initiated a traffic stop, Troopers observed a sawed-off shot gun and other illegal weapons, Salinas was driving to sell the shotgun, the investigation resulted in the seizure of several other illegally possessed weapons. Salinas was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Sale of a Firearm, he was processed & transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
The National Weather Service announced that their survey teams confirmed 2 tornadoes Thursday, an EF-1 just south of Rock Stream in Yates County & an EF-0 near Cortland, other locations were surveyed in Cortland County, though it was determined that strong winds were the cause of damage east of where the tornado lifted.

Binghamton Police Department arrested 53 year old Stanley DeGroat of Binghamton and 47 year old Brett White of Binghamton, following a shooting. DeGroat was charged with Attempted murder, Criminal possession of a weapon, Criminal contempt & 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, White was charged with 8 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, following an incident Sunday, where DeGroat fired a shot that grazed the victim's hand, he fled the scene on a bicycle, he was located & taken into custody. Search warrants were obtained & executed at 2 locations, Officers found several rifles, shotguns, and 2 illegally possessed handguns, which led to White's arrest. Both face court action shortly, more charges may be forthcoming.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 61 year old Cathleen Mann of Burlington for 11 counts of Criminal Contempt plus Attempted Criminal Contempt . Mann is accused of violating an order of protection multiple times, she was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Maryland Court.
Attorney General Letitia James announced that the Trump administration dismissed its appeal of a court ruling striking down its blockade on wind energy development. In May 2025, James led a coalition of 17 other attorneys general in suing to block a presidential directive suspending all federal approvals for wind energy projects. In December 2025, the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts granted the coalition's motion for summary judgment, declared the directive illegal, and vacated the order.

Binghamton Police responded Tuesday to a report of a male stabbed downtown, a 19-year-old male victim had sustained 2 significant stab wounds; one to his back and one in the upper leg, he was transported to a local hospital for treatment & emergency surgery. 2 suspects had fled the scene in a white sedan. 1 suspect was identified as 19 year old Christopher Ricketts of Binghamton, the 2nd suspect & driver of the vehicle in question was identified as 18 year old Jeremiah Coqmard of Johnson City. Both were charged with 1st degree Assault both were arraigned in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the custody of the Broome County Correctional Facility, anyone with information is asked to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau by phone at 607-772-7080.
44 year old Richard Robinson of Holland Patent pleaded guilty to Attempted Promoting Prison Contraband in Delaware County Court Tuesday. Robinson was an inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on April 17th, he had 2 small plastic bags with a white powdery residue in a brown paper bag, the substance tested positive for methamphetamine. The case was presented to the Delaware County Grand Jury, Robinson was indicted for Promoting Prison Contraband & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, sentencing will be on August 25th, Robinson is expected to be sentenced to 1.5 to 3 years in jail.
Walton Police arrested former Walton Teacher Eric Scofield who allegedly violated an Order of Protection by being on school property. Scofield was located on the property of the Walton High School, Scofield was charged with 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, he was arraigned & was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. Scofield was ordered to stay away from the district after an investigation for engaging in improper communications with students.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the award of $6 million in funding through the Innovative Mobility Initiative, which provides funds to transit organizations to expand service offerings and support riders who face barriers to accessing traditional transit. Locations receiving funding include Broome County, they will receive $288,000 awarded to BC Transit to expand geographic coverage beyond the existing transit network.

The Madison County District Attorney, State Police, University Police at SUNY Morrisville and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office announced that an arrest has been made in connection with a shooting on the SUNY Morrisville campus that left a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the neck back on November 3rd of 2025. The victim was not a student, and was taken to Upstate Medical Hospital for emergency surgery. A Madison County grand jury indicted 19 year old Kido Simon on 6 counts, including attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm. Simon was a student at SUNY Morrisville at the time of the shooting, he is being held at Madison County Jail on bail set at $1,000,000 cash, $1,500,000 bond and $2,000,000 partially unsecured bond. Simon’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 3 at the Madison County Courthouse. 1 other person is wanted in connection with this case who remains at large.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced the launch of the 2026 Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, eligible REDCs will compete for funding through the $150 million ACHIEVE competition to support high-impact regional projects to advance regional goals. On Friday, State Police arrested Lieutenant Thomas Fellrath of the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges following an investigation by the State Police & the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office. Fellrath is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Defrauding the Government, Official Misconduct, Fellrath is accused of possessing 10 grams of cocaine during a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway in Herkimer County, At the time of his arrest, Fellrath was on-duty and driving an unmarked Otsego County Sheriff’s Office vehicle outside of Otsego County.
Delaware County has continued to transition operations of the senior meals program after Delaware Opportunities abruptly ceased operating on May 7th. Delaware County Office for the Aging has supported Senior meals both at congregate meal sites and through home meal deliveries. Congregate meal sites are now fully staffed and operational in Delhi, Hancock, Walton & Grand Gorge, the Margaretville senior meals dining center is open and located back in the Margaretville Methodist Church. The Sidney senior dining center has been temporarily relocated to the Sidney Community Cultural Center at 1 Bridge Street in Sidney, today that site will be operational to serve meals on site and prepare meals for home delivery. The County continues to work with the owners of the Sidney Senior Housing site to permanently relocate senior meals back to the senior nutrition site at 21 Liberty Street Sidney. The Binghamton Police Department & the Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that after the death of 45 year old Peter Bennedum Friday at an area Hospital, the investigation is now being handled as a homicide. The 4 juveniles were previously charged with Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree, the charges have been amended to 2nd degree Murder, they are housed at a juvenile detention facility and are scheduled to appear in Broome County Court at a later date to be arraigned on the new charge. Additionally, the 13-year-old suspect was located and arrested at an address in Whitney Point, and has also been charged with 2nd degree Murder and was also sent to a juvenile detention facility in Syracuse, New York. 33 year old Stephen Pudiak of Port Crane was sentenced in Broome County Court to 14 years in State Prison followed by 13 years of Post-Release Supervision for his conviction on 1st Degree Rape, An additional concurrent sentence of 7 years in State Prison and 10 years of Post-Release Supervision was imposed for his conviction on Sexual Abuse, Pudiak will also have to register as a sex offender. Pudiak was convicted on February 6, after a jury trial on the Rape in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree charges. The convictions stem from an incident in which Pudiak engaged in non-consensual sexual acts upon a physically helpless victim. Pudiak was previously convicted and sentenced in April 2024, on the Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree charge, stemming from a separate incident in which he held a firearm to the victim's head.
State Police arrested 42 year old Dale Chapman of Endicott for multiple drug related offenses after a Trooper observed Chapman conduct a narcotics sale Sunday. Chapman was charged multiple counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, plus Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Sale of Controlled Substance plus several related charges, Police seized cocaine, Crack Cocaine Psychedelic Mushrooms, plus packaging material, scales, & cash from suspected drug sales, Chapman was processed then turned over to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 24 year old Alexander Woeppel of Cooperstown, for Criminal Mischief, DWI, reckless Driving and numerous related charges following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Milford. Woeppel was located at the scene and was found to be Intoxicated, he initially crashed into a parked vehicle, then into a private garage, he was released on appearance Tickets for town of Milford court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 55 year old Donald Lane for Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Bail Jumping as well as on 2 Warrants, Lane was located by a Deputy in Oneonta, he had failed to appear in court for sentencing on previous felony charges, he failed to comply with verbal commands and attempted to flee on foot, he was apprehended & physically resisted arrest. Lane was then turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await arraignment, he was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional facility without bail.
Norwich City Police arrested 21 year old Brayden Pollock of Plymouth along with a Juvenile, in connection to the damage at Angelino Fields on Borden Avenue on May 2nd. Norwich Police determine that both individuals came in separate vehicles & damaged property, amounting to about $2,500 in damages. Both were charged with Criminal Mischief, Pollock was issued an appearance ticket for Norwich City Court, the juvenile was ordered to return to Youth Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 19 year old Derick Danielsen of Laurens after a couple driving in Laurens saw Danielsen follow them in his vehicle into the town of Oneonta, they reported that Danielson was pointing a handgun at their vehicle. The couple drove to the State Police Barracks in Oneonta to report the incident. Troopers located Danielson and his vehicle in Laurens, Troopers seized cocaine, ecstasy, oxycodone pills, Xanax, fentanyl, 150 THC vape cartridges, cash & a number of loaded weapons, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and Menacing, he was processed & then transported to the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.
48 year old Jason Gray of Bainbridge, pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for possessing Fentanyl with intent to sell. Gray also pleaded guilty to Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, in Delaware County Court Tuesday. Gray admitted that he was found with Fentanyl during a traffic stop on West Main Street in the Village of Sidney on January 22nd & he was impaired by methamphetamine while driving, Gray will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision & his drivers license will also be revoked.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Gerald Schmitt of Norwich following an investigation into a stolen trailer and snowmobiles from the Town of Norwich. Schmitt was charged with Criminal possession of stolen property, tampering with physical evidence & Conspiracy, after 2 stolen snowmobiles were found on Schmitt’s property. Schmitt was released on appearance tickets in accordance with New York State Bail Reform and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
The State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the death of an unidentified Binghamton man this past weekend. On March 7, Binghamton Police responded to the report of a man in the road blocking a Broome County Transit bus, he eventually climbed onto the front of the bus, resisted arrest, was taken to Binghamton General Hospital for a health evaluation, & was discharged the following day& was taken to Binghamton Police Headquarters, he experienced a medical emergency, officers administered 1st aid until EMT's took him to Wilson Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The State DEC & local fire departments remind area residents that the annual burn ban will will take effect March 16th, and will run through May 14th this year. During the Burn Ban, people will not be allowed to have large open fires and the burning of leaves, brush, cardboard are prohibited. The use of fire pits with fireguards, small cooking fires, charcoal and propane gas grills are allowed. The Burn Ban exists due to the high risk of wildfires & grass fires that can occur during the early spring and spread rapidly due to the drier than normal conditions.

State Police Responded early this morning to 1092 County Road 37 in Mount Upton for a report of a plow truck that struck a house. An investigation determined that a Chenango County Highway Department plow was traveling west on County Road 37 salting the roadway when due to slick road conditions, the plow truck lost traction going up the hill. The plow truck rolled back down the hill while the operator attempted to regain control of the plow truck but was unable to and damaged a trailer, fence, road sign then struck the house. The accident led to the Gilberstville Mount Upton School District cancelling classes today, No injuries were reported.

Attorney General Letitia James released a statement as New federal rules now require many New Yorkers without dependents to meet work or activity requirements to keep their SNAP benefits, effective on March 1st, following the end of a longstanding statewide waiver. The requirements apply to people aged 18 to 64 who do not have a child under 14, who are not pregnant or caring for someone who cannot care for themselves, and do not have a disability that prevents them from working. James said that she advised SNAP recipients to watch for communications from State or local officials and to contact their local social services office if they believe they qualify for an exemption or need help meeting the requirements. State Department of Transportation released the state Highway Bridge statistics for each county, which includes when it was built, last inspected and what waterway it crosses, Delaware County had 16 of 448 bridges in poor condition, Otsego County had 26 out of 266 bridges in poor shape & in Chenango County a total of 15 out of 257 bridges were determined to be in poor condition. The Walton Police Department & the Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced the arrested of Walton High School teacher Eric Scofield for dissemination of indecent materials to Minors. 2 counts of a Sexually motivated felony, 7 counts of tampering with physical evidence & 5 counts of official misconduct, following a complaint that Scofield was engaging in improper communications with students. Scofield was brought to the Delaware County Correctional facility pending arraignment on the charges.
The United Way of Mid Rural New York announced that they raised over $590,000 in the 4 counties that they serve, about $30,000 dollars more than the previous years efforts, United Way Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco told WCDO News of the breakdown for each county:

Monaco said that 53 projects will receive funds from the United way Fundraising efforts, some funds were also allocated to food pantries & warming stations in the region.
There are now 3 candidates running for the New York’s 51st State Senate seat, as incumbent Republican Peter Oberacker decided to run for Congress. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Kyle Wedderspoon of Morris for Sex Offender Failure to Notify of Address Change within 10 days following a complaint received in Morris. Deputies were notified that Wedderspoon was no longer living at his registered address, he is a Level 1 Sex Offender, he had been living at a residence in the Town of Otego and failed to make proper notifications of his address change, he was taken into custody and processed at the Sheriff’s Office, he was released with an appearance ticket and is set to appear in the Town of Morris Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Luke Lupo of Walton man on charges of Promoting Prison Contraband, after they received a complaint from the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Lupo allegedly possessed contraband while incarcerated at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on pre-existing charges. Lupo was arraigned and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on the charges that led to his initial incarceration.

The City of Norwich Police Department arrested 28 year old Elijah Joyce of Norwich following an investigation, with assistance from the Chenango County Probation Department. Norwich Police Detectives developed intelligence that Joyce may have been in possession of an illegal firearm while on active probation. When members of the City of Norwich Police Department and Chenango County Probation tried to make contact with Joyce at a local business, he was brought to the ground rather swiftly and placed in handcuffs,  Officers recovered a 9mm handgun with approximately 20 rounds of hollow-point ammunition loaded in the magazines, as well as metal knuckles. Joyce was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail, pending further court proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional criminal charges will be filed from the City of Norwich Police Department as a result of the incident.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 61 year old Cathleen Mann of Burlington for 2nd Degree Grand Larceny and 57 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, following an investigation into a complaint in the Town of Maryland, where Mann is accused of writing fraudulent checks and unauthorized use of a debit card for an amount greater than $50,000, she was held for centralized arraignment and an order of protect was issued for the victim.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced the re-opening of the State's Municipal Infrastructure Program Request for Applications, making up to $36 million available to support broadband infrastructure projects across the state through ConnectALL, which is the state’s broadband office. To date, the Municipal Infrastructure Program has funded $268 million to active projects in 24 counties that will build more than 2,300 miles of new fiber optic infrastructure and 68 new wireless hubs serving more than 96,000 homes and businesses around the state. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 year old Christopher Roettger of Worcester, for 1st degree Assault & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, following an investigation into a stabbing during a domestic incident. Roettger fled the scene and responding deputies located a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds inside the residence, who was taken to Bassett Hospital, Roettger returned to the scene to turn himself in, he was taken into custody without incident. Investigators applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence and the defendant’s vehicle where additional evidence was secured. The Otsego County District Attorney’s Office recommended that bail be set at $100,000 cash, Roettger was processed and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending Arraignment. An order of protection was requested on behalf of the victim. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit.
Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 43 year old Martin Planty of Walton for Forcible Touching, & Harassment, following an investigation of unwanted sexual contact. Planty was processed and transported to the Delaware County Jail to await Centralized Arraignment as the victim requested an Order of Protection.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Mathew O'Neill of Windsor with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident involving a boat and a tow truck in the Town of Colesville. On January 5, Responding deputies found a Ford Expedition smashed under a boat, with the rear of the boat pressed directly against the structure of a residence. The investigation revealed that O'Neill's vehicle left the road way and struck the parked boat, which collided with a residence and a tow truck parked nearby. No injuries were reported.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced the indictment of 18 year old James Tinebra of Plainview, A Delaware County Grand Jury indicted Tinebra for Burglary & Grand Larceny for stealing a State Police Vehicle from a repair shop in Davenport on November 5th at about 3:45 AM. Tinebra was located later in the day by the Schodack Police Department in Rensselaer County, where he is also facing separate charges.
The Otsego County Office of Emergency Services reported a fatal structure Fire Saturday Morning at 125 Lake Street in Cooperstown. Cooperstown Fire Department, with mutual Aid from surrounding communities entered the structure and found an 89 year old female, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the identity of the deceased has not been released pending family notification.
Broome County Sheriff's Office & area firefighters responded Friday to the report of a car crashing into a house in the Town of Union. Responding deputies found that the driver, an 82-year-old female, was attempting to back out of a residential driveway and mistakenly accelerated forward off the driveway and into the adjacent house, rupturing a natural gas line. NYSEG was alerted and the gas line was turned off, nearby residents were temporarily evacuated, The driver was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center for minor injuries. No charges were filed.
Last week was Crash Responder Safety Week, and State Troopers joined the State DOT to focus on Move Over Law violations. Troopers from the Troop C Traffic Incident Management Unit teamed up with DOT crews on I-81 in Cortland County and I-88 in the town of Otego. On November 20th, Troopers issued 30 tickets on I-81 in Cortland County and 9 tickets on I-88 in the town of Otego, on November 21, Troopers issued 39 tickets on I-81 in Cortland County. New York State implemented the Move Over Law in 2010 to reduce crashes involving emergency responders stopped along the roadway. The law later expanded to include hazard vehicles, tow trucks, and highway workers. In 2023, the law expanded again, requiring drivers to slow down and move over for any vehicle stopped on the roadway.

48 year old Grady Hunter of Binghamton pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Broome County Court Monday, moments before jury selection was set to begin. Hunter is already serving a 10-year state prison sentence, he will serve an additional 5-year state prison term, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. Hunter's latest plea stems from an incident on July 19, 2024, in Johnson City after a woman reported to police that a male subject had a gun, Hunter fired a round through his ex-girlfriend’s apartment door. Hunter is scheduled to be sentenced on January 29, 2026, his other prison sentence also came from a weapons charge. The 2 state prison sentences will run consecutively, resulting in a total sentence of 15 years in state prison, followed by 10 years of post- release supervision.

The State Attorney General’s Office has filed a lawsuit seeking to permanently ban the owners of Royalty Tobacco in the Price Chopper Plaza on Route 7 in Oneonta from selling vape products in the state. The owners of the business; Eysa Sharhan and Anmed Mozed have previously faced charges of selling vaporized tobacco to underage customers, they shut down their businesses and reopened under new names 3 times, the state Department of Health has levied $195,000 in fines against the illegal smoke shop owners, the latest action could shut them down permanently.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Toren Gray of Laurens, for 16 counts of 1st degree Obscenity, 91 counts of Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, 89 counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, following an investigation from a Cyber Tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators learned that child sexual abuse material was disseminated from a local social media account, they obtained search warrants for Gray's accounts and located over 300 images. Sheriff’s Office investigators and the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit, and Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a search warrant at Gray's residence, he was taken in to custody, processed and was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Arraignment. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.
Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 69 year old Sidney Wallace of Roxbury, pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Sexual Abuse in Delaware County Court. Wallace had previously been entrusted as a foster parent, he admitted that during the winter of 2023-24 he had inappropriate sexual contact with a child under the age of 13, and in 2023 he had inappropriate sexual contact with a different child under the age of 14. Wallace faces sentencing on November 18th.

Norwich City Police arrested 4 Norwich residents on a variety of charges Friday. Police Detectives were investigating an animal abuse case at 7 Park Street, a search warrant was issued & executed, Officers located methamphetamine, a digital scale, drug-packaging materials, plus a gun, metal knuckles, and several other weapons. The animals were removed & turned over to local veterinarians. City Code Enforcement officials condemned the residence due to unsafe conditions. Arrested were 27 year old Kathryn Schultz, 36 year old Jordan Bates, 23 year old Hunter Bishop & 47 year old Marc Kimble on a variety of drug, weapons & Animal Cruelty charges, all 4 were arraigned were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.
Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that Reginald Morris was sentenced following his guilty pleas to Attempted Assault and Attempted Criminal Sexual Act. Morris was sentenced to 1 ½ - 3 Years on his plea to Attempted Assault and 7 Years incarceration followed by 10 years post release supervision on his plea to Attempted Criminal Sexual Act. Morris will be required to register as a Sex Offender. The convictions stem from 2 separate incidents, on August 16, 2024, Morris approached a woman and attempted to forcibly engage in sexual conduct with her. The victim was able to resist and escape, and Morris was later taken into custody, and while incarcerated at the Broome County Correctional Facility, Morris intentionally damaged property and violently resisted corrections officers who attempted to restrain him, he bit an officer on the knee, causing injuries.

Sidney Police responded July 19th to a domestic dispute, where Cotten is accused of damaging a property and attempting to set it and responding officers on fire. The Indictment charges Cotten with Attempted Arson, Attempted Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Possession of Dangerous Weapon, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Justice & Menacing.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in an animal cruelty investigation in the area of Foster Lane in the Town of Otego. On September 6, a gunshot was heard in the area. Shortly afterward, the pet’s owner discovered their animal had been shot. The animal was immediately taken to a veterinary facility and is currently receiving ongoing medical care. Anyone with information should call the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office at 607-547-4273.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Christopher Romain of Edmeston and 41 year old Kristin Natterer of Edmeston, following an Animal Cruelty investigation. Romain was charged with 1 count of Torturing/Injuring/Failure to Provide Sustenance to Animals, while Natterer faces 11 counts. The Investigation revealed that the pair were housing numerous emaciated dogs at the residence The dogs were seized and the defendants were taken in to custody, were processed and issued Appearance Tickets returnable to the Town of Edmeston Court at a later date. All of the animals were turned over to the Susquehanna SPCA where they are currently receiving medical attention.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar and Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti rallied in support of the family of Brennan Loveless, the 13-year-old boy hit by a vehicle on January 1, 2023, while riding his bike on State Route 7 near his home in Sanitaria Springs. 37 year old Bradley Law of Harpursville, fled the scene and staged a fake accident with a deer the following day in an effort to cover up the damage to the truck. Law was initially charged with criminally negligent homicide, but agreed to plead guilty to criminal possession of a firearm and attempted leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, for which he was slated to receive 2 concurrent sentences of 1 1/3 years to 4 years in prison. Law faced other unrelated charges, & was sentenced to 2 consecutive sentences, a total of 2 and 2/3 years to 8 years. Muller was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision, On October 29, 2024, Muller was pulled over by a Delaware County Deputy in Delhi, a search was conducted and methamphetamine was located in her wallet.
43 year old Thomas Mould of Stamford, appeared in Delaware County Court and was sentenced for Criminal Sexual Act, to 4 years in state prison and 8 years of post-release supervision. On June 23, 2024, State Police were dispatched for a domestic dispute in Stamford, in regard to Mould’s alleged molestation of a child under the age of 17. Mould was found at his place of employment and arrested, he gave a statement to police admitting that he did touch the victim and he knew that the victim was under the age of 17.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a bomb threat Tuesday at about 1:00 PM that was made to Community Bank on State Highway 23 in the Town of Norwich. The building which included Community Bank, a Mirabito Gas Station, and Dunkin Donuts were quickly evacuated. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and State Police responded and secured the scene, a State Police Explosives Detection Canine conducted a thorough search of the entire premises and did not locate any signs of any explosive devices, it was determined that there was no threat to the public and the businesses were back open at approximately 4:00 pm. The investigation to who made the threat is still ongoing.
52 year-old Terrell Heyward was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison today in Broome County Court. On January 11th, Heyward shot 54 year-old Sarah Hauer in the back of the head at the Woodburn Court apartment building on Exchange Street. The District Attorney's Office contended that Heyward was frustrated that his girlfriend, who was a friend of Hauer’s, wouldn’t see him. When Hauer told Heyward that his girlfriend was unavailable, he shot Hauer and fled these, leaving her to die.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Mohamad Haidar of Decatur, following an investigation into repeated domestic violence. Haidar was charged with Predatory Sexual Assault, plus multiple counts of 1st degree & 3rd degree Rape, 1st & 3rd degree Criminal Sexual Act, Assault, Stalking, Labor Trafficking, unlawful inprisonment, Strangulation, Criminal possession of a weapon & Overdriving, torturing, failure to provide proper sustenance for animals. Investigators were contacted by victims who reported sustaining severe abuse for several years while living with Haidar, where they were forced to live at the residence and submit to extreme abuse which often resulted in serious physical injury. Haidar was taken in to custody without incident, a search warrant was executed & evidence was seized. The Susquehanna SPCA removed numerous animals. Haidar was processed and was lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, the investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending. 35 year old Natasha Reed of Hamden was indicted on 2 counts by a Delaware County Grand Jury for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Reed allegedly possessed over 500 milligrams of cocaine, on November 26, 2024, Deputies conducted a traffic stop and found Reed to have a suspended license, officers seized cocaine and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Monday to a domestic incident involving a male subject with a stab wound. Upon arrival, Deputies found the victim with a stab wound to his leg and cuts to his hands. Deputies provided first aid until EMS arrived, the victim was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. Deputies arrested 63-year-old Alfredo Chico for 2nd degree Assault, Menacing and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 secured bond.
State Police & Chenango County Sheriff's Office & State Forest Rangers are looking for 71 year old Charles Skellet, who was last seen on June 14th at a residence where he was staying on Seymour Hill Road in Coventry. Police said that Skellet has multiple medical concerns, State police are utilizing Troopers on the ground, K9 units, drones and New York State Police aviation equipment.
44 year old Jerry Green of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault in Broome County Court during the second day of his jury trial. Green admitted to assaulting another man with a metal pipe during a violent incident on September 27, 2024, at a residence located at 38 Pine Street, in the City of Binghamton. Green will be sentenced on September 12, 2025, before the Honorable Carol A. Cocchiola, and is expected to receive six years in New York State Prison, followed by five years of postrelease supervision.

Race was arrested and issued an Appearance Ticket for Town of Worcester Court at a later date.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Charles Hall of New Berlin for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Endangerment and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle Hall was operating in the Town of Columbus, he failed to comply and led Deputies on a pursuit into Otsego County. After an investigation, Hall turned himself into Deputies, he was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Columbus Court on a later date.
Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti announced the allocation of $52,500 in funding to support enhanced summer traffic safety & community policing patrols throughout the County. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Arrested 31 year old Abdi Ali of Norwich for Failure to Notify Law Enforcement of Address Change. The Chenango County Sheriff's Office received information that Ali, who is a level two sex offender and was last registered to an address in the City of Syracuse, moved to the Town of Norwich and failed to notify Law Enforcement of his address change within ten days. Ali was taken into custody without incident and was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail, The Sheriff's Office was then notified by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that Ali is a person of interest with their agency, he was turned over to U.S. Immigration.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Keith Echiverri Jr., of Hawaii for DWI, Refusal to take breath test, Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, Moving From a Lane Unsafely, Failure to Keep Right and Open container of Alcohol in Motor Vehicle, following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Otsego. Grand Jury indictments were handed down in the case of the death of Messiah Nantwi, a prisoner at the Mid-State Correctional Facility. Nantwi died at a hospital on March 1 after being transported from the prison, during the 22-day strike by Correction Officers. 15 people were arrested, Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick has been investigating his death.

Oneonta Police Department concluded their investigation into the report of a deceased female on the railroad tracks early Sunday. An employee of Norfolk Southern Railroad reported the deceased female, Officers from the Oneonta Police Department, State Police and Otsego County District Attorney’s Office & the Otsego County Coroner responded, Investigators learned a 61-year-old female from Pennsylvania became stranded in the Town of Oneonta Saturday, Her vehicle was towed to a garage and she was given a courtesy ride by the Tow Company to a local convenience store. Investigators later learned that the woman ha d history of mental distress. She was reported missing by family Saturday, about 10 hours later, video surveillance showed the woman walking on the railway, at about 3:49 am, moments later a train arrived & video depicts the female laying on the tracks at the time the train passes. The case is being ruled a suicide & the name of the deceased is not being released.

28 year old Erin Hubbell of Margaretville pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of her conditional discharge, she was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 364 days in the Delaware County Jail. State Troopers are out in full force with the St. Patricks's Day celebrations coming up this weekend. The STOP-DWI campaign runs through next Tuesday, with St. Patrick's Day on Monday this year. In 2024, the troopers ran their St. Patrick's Day campaign resulted in over 5,500 tickets, they arrested 132 for DWI infractions and they also investigated 199 crashes during that weekend.
A Chenango County grand jury recently indicted John Williams for 2nd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, last November 7th at the Red Roof Inn on North Broad Street in the City of Norwich, Williams was allegedly found in possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine with intent to sell.

The family of Robert Brooks filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on Wednesday after Brooks was beaten by correctional officers at Marcy Correctional Facility and died at an area hospital the following day in December. The New York State Attorney General's Office has stepped back from the investigation, the case has been turned over to Onondaga County District Attorney's office for the officials investigation. The Lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York is against 17 defendants who are directly or indirectly involved in Brooks case.
The Transportation Security Administration officers confiscated a total of 23 handguns, at upstate New York Airports last year. All weapons were found during the routine screening of carry-on luggage. Locally, No firearms were intercepted at Greater Binghamton Airport or Ithaca Tompkins International Airport.

On March 17th, 2024, State Police responded to a welfare check at the Dollar General in Margaretville, with a driver asleep in a car. West failed testing at the scene & was found to be impaired by drugs.

The Norwich Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian death that occurred on Cortland Street in the City of Norwich on January 1st, at approximately 8:00 AM. The victim was 68 year old James Wright, who was walking on the sidewalk of Cortland Street when he was struck, he succumbed to his injuries on the scene. Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute involving a female with facial injuries in the Town of Chenango. 49 year old Benjamin Engbrecht of Chenango was charged with 2nd and 3rd Degree Assault, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest & Obstruction of Governmental Administration, he was taken to Central Arraignment & he was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies observed a vehicle speeding recently at 85-mph in the 40mph zone, while road conditions were poor and snowplows were out clearing snow. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Deputies identified the driver as 21-year-old Scott Barnhart of Walton, he was charged with one count of Reckless driving, speeding and other lesser charges, Barnhart was released and was directed to appear in the Town Davenport Court at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 59 year old Robert Solberg of Milford Saturday, for Criminal Contempt. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested Solberg following an investigation into a violation of a temporary order of protection and a trespassing complaint, where he was found to have entered the residence of the protected party, he was turned over to the Correctional Facility to await arraignment. State Police and the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Carol Bishop & 34 year old Timothy Bishop of Laurens following an investigation into an animal cruelty complaint. At the conclusion of the investigation, both were charged with 14 counts each for torturing or Injuring Animals/Failure to Provide Sustenance, they were processed & released on appearance tickets for the Town of Laurens Court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old William Killenberger of East Worcester for Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Harassment, Endangering the welfare of a child & resisting Arrest following an investigation into a domestic dispute in East Worcester. Killenberger is accused of damaging property during the course of the dispute and then fled the scene prior to law enforcement's arrival. An arrest warrant was applied for and he was located, While attempting to take the suspect into custody, he began fighting with Deputies and was subsequently taken into custody, he was processed and later turned over to the Otsego County Jail for arraignment.
New York Attorney General Letitia James is investigating the death of an inmate Robert Brooks at the Marcy Correctional Facility. Body cam footage shows Brooks was assaulted by multiple State Corrections Officers within the Infirmary Building at the Marcy Correctional Facility, Brooks was transported by ambulance to Wynn Hospital on Dec. 10, where he was pronounced dead, a dozen corrections officers and a nurse are under investigation for their alleged involvement in the death. An autopsy of Brooks was performed by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office on December 11.

The State Department of Labor released local unemployment rates for November, The State’s unemployment rate held constant at 4.4% in November, locally, Chenango Country reported 3% unemployment, Delaware Country registered 3.4% and Otsego County had 3.3% unemployment in November.
Delaware Opportunities and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce provided Christmas gifts to Delaware County children in need this month, Over 800 children from nearly 300 families benefited from this collaborative effort this year.
The Chenango Arts Council has been awarded at $40,000 Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. The State Council has awarded $82 million this year to 509 artists and 1,497 organizations across the state.

Otsego County District Attorney's Office announced the sentencing of Jamesan Conville of Pennsylvania. Conville was charged with reckless endangerment for driving off with an Otsego County Deputy partially inside of his car and dragged the deputy 300 feet. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on I-88 in the Town of Milford after Conville was clocked at about 100 miles an hour. Conville is expected to serve between 1 to 4 years in state prison.
Friends of Recovery Dedicated to Others celebrated the re-opening of its new recovery center, “The Turning Point of Delaware County” on Friday. The new facility provides a new and improved space for people struggling with substance abuse and addiction. The building additionally has a private entrance to keep confidentiality for patients going to the downtown Delhi location.
