State DEC announced several changes to deer hunting regulations to increase harvest of female deer and improve DEC’s ability to manage abundant deer populations. Under the new system, all hunters will receive a first Antlered Deer Tag which can be used during any season, except the September antlerless season. Hunters who harvest and report an antlerless deer, will be eligible to receive a second Antlered Deer Tag, More information is available at dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hunting.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 40 year old Barbara Brooke Walley, who is wanted on a Bench Warrant issued by Delaware County Court. SFCU has recently presented a $20,000 donation to the United Way Mid Rural NY, supporting efforts to improve access to dental care for children across Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Madison counties. SFCU President & CEO JIm Reynolds comments;

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has elevated a recall of Alfredo sauce distributed in 41 states to its most serious classification after they say a supplier flagged an ingredient for possible Salmonella contamination. The Coffee Connexion Company of Tennessee voluntarily recalled the product on May 6 because it contains a dry milk powder ingredient that was recalled by the supplier due to potential Salmonella contamination. On June 4, the FDA designated the recall as a Class I event, the agency's highest risk category. The product was distributed in multiple states, including New York, The FDA's enforcement report does not indicate whether any illnesses have been reported in connection with the product.

3 former Marcy Correctional Facility officers appeared in Oneida County Court This Morning, Nicholas Kieffer, Anthony Farina and David Kingsley are accused in connection with the fatal beating of inmate Robert Brooks in December. Farina & Kingsley both rejected the plea offer for 2nd degree murder, serving no more than 18-years-to-life in State prison. Kieffer rejected his offer of 12 years in State prison for gang assault. All 3 were ordered to return to court on June 3rd.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit arrested 35 year old Gary Lanzo of the Town of Union on multiple felony drug and weapons charges following a warrant execution Friday. As a result of the search warrant, officers seized Cocaine, Digital Scales, Packaging Material, A Ruger .45 Caliber Revolver and a 9mm Handgun, Lanzo was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 3 Counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, where he remains in custody.

Chenango County Clerk's Office, the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce and “4 Towns Forward", are teaming up to help local residents get a US Passport. the event will be held at the Bainbridge Community Center on Thursday June 19 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. Otsego County Sheriff's office arrested 33 year old Schuyler Schmidt of Garratsville following an investigation of a structure fire in the Town of New Lisbon. Schmidt was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Arson, Criminal Mischief in connection with a structure fire of a garage owned by a relative, multiple area Fire Departments responded, investigators located approximately thirteen vehicles & Machinery sustained significant damage or had become a total loss. Upon Arrested, Schmidt allegedly possessed methamphetamine, he was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending arraignment.

Governor Kathy Hochul today extended the application deadline for homeowners to apply for emergency repair grants for the July and August 2024 extreme weather events across the state. Funds are available to eligible homeowners flood or insurance coverage or other forms of disaster recovery funds insufficient. Locally Delaware County Residents who had damage from the severe weather of August 9th & 10th are eligible, more information on the program, is available on HCR’s website: hcr.ny.gov. The application deadline has now been extended to Friday, November 8.

52 year old Shannon Finch of Margaretville was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury & was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. The indictment alleges that on May 5 in a hotel room in Fleischmanns, Finch, possessed methamphetamine, he was previously arraigned in the Town of Middletown Town Court where he was released on his own recognizance, he faces up to 5 1/2 years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision if convicted.

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced the passage of the Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence Act, following the rise in Fentanyl overdoses & deaths, the bill increases the ability to go after the drug traffickers and seizing their assets:

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times stronger than heroin and cannot be detected by taste, smell, or sight when mixed with other drugs.

Waste Recovery Enterprises has teamed up again with the Delaware Valley Humane Society in the month of May for the “Heavy Metal Haul-Out”, Humane Society Director Erin Insinga explains:

The event runs thought the entire month of May, the previous events have resulted in about $8,000 for the Humane Society.

Binghamton Police Department arrested 31 year old Okan Thompson of Binghamton, in connection with a shooting at an apartment at 100 Susquehanna Street on April 27. 5 others were arrested shortly after the incident, Thompson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail.

The process for the new nickname at the Sidney Central School District is in the next phase. The 2nd survey, which allows people to submit their favorite nickname, is now open. The survey will require a person's name, email address, your connection to the Sidney CSD, and the option to select a nickname, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock comments:

The Oxtober Festival will take place from 10 am. to 4 pm. on Sunday, October 22, at LaFayette Park in Oxford. Activities include pumpkin carvings, a scarecrow contest, music from the Nate Gross Band, food trucks, a kid zone, vendors and more. The events was rescheduled after it was postponed earlier this month due to inclement weather.

The Binghamton Police Department announced the arrested of 28 year old Justin Williams of Greenville North Carolina in connection with a fatal shooting at 58 Floral Avenue Tuesday morning. Williams was charged with 2nd degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon for the shooting death of 31-year-old Victor Texidor of Binghamton. Williams was stopped by a Pennsylvania State Trooper who spotted Williams Vehicle on Interstate 81 near Gibson. Williams was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail. Anyone with information is asked to contact Binghamton detectives at 607-772-7080.

The Great New York State Fair will ban outdoor smoking except in designated areas starting this summer. Smoking is already prohibited inside buildings on the fairgrounds and at the Chevy Court and Chevy Park venues. The new policy only covers the NYS Fair, and smoking rules for non-fair events may vary.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Department announced 18 year
old Cody Coleman has been charged with 2nd degree murder & criminal
possession of a weapon, in connection with the death of 16 year old Amelia
Wakefield in Smithville on May 3rd.
Coleman was being held on a probation violation in the Chenango County
Jail since the May 3rd fatal shooting of Wakefield, he was returned to the Jail
without bail after an indictment was unsealed this afternoon in Chenango County
Court.

33 Year Old Kevin Wilcox of Harpursville has been indicted
on 15 counts in connection with an incident in Binghamton March 11th, where he
lost control of his vehicle & struck 16 year old Harper Stantz & 19
year old Britney Laserinko, while allegedly impaired by drugs. Stantz died from
the injuries sustained from the incident, Laserinko suffered multiple
fractures, and Wilcox will be arraigned on the indictment in Broome county
Court at a later date.

State police are asking for the public's help in locating 39 year old James Sitts of Oneonta, who is wanted in connection with a grand larceny investigation. Sitts is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 165 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes and a beard, he has several distinctive tattoos on his neck and right arm, his last known address was in the Lantern Hill Trailer Park in Oneonta. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at (607) 561-7400.

Federal law Enforcement officials arrested 41 year old Justin Hobbie of Springfield, on child pornography charges. Hobbie was working as a physical education teacher & was formerly a girls’ soccer coach in the Cooperstown School District. District officials alerted parents of the arrest this morning, they did not believe that any incident involving a Cooperstown Student occurred, the investigation is continuing.

60 year old Lynn Beilby of South New Berlin has been charged with animal abuse, for allegedly torturing an animal and failing to provide sustenance to an animal. Beilby is scheduled to appear in the Town of Morris Court on January 14th to answer to the charges.

The Village of Franklin will hold their annual Christmas celebration tomorrow. Events will include a Library Book Sale, Grandma’s Pantry will be open from 11:00 to 3:00 at the Methodist Church, and the annual Holiday Market will run from 12:00 to 4:00 at the Fire House, pictures with Santa Claus will begin at 6:00 PM, also at the Fire House.

The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce announces a variety of events to be held Saturday. The highlight will be a parade starting at 5:00 PM, there will also be a library open house from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, and carolers, and after the parade be sure to go to the Episcopal Church (with red doors) for your photos with Santa.

State Police arrested 37 year old Michael Collins of Butternuts, for Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Criminal Mischief, after Troopers were dispatched to a residence on Wilbur Hill Road in the town of Butternuts for a domestic dispute. After an investigation, troopers determined that Collins and a victim were involved in an argument that turned physical, where Collins is accused of choking, taking a phone away when the victim attempted to call for help and not allowing the victim to leave. Collins was arraigned in the town of Butternuts Court where he was released on his own recognizance. The judge issued an order of protection to the victim.

The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage and they are hosting 3 blood drives today. In Oneonta, a blood drive is being held at SUNY Oneonta from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 PM, one is being held in Cooperstown from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the Clark's Sports Center, & another is being held in Morris from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the Zion Episcopal Church on Main Street. The Unadilla Rotary Club & the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce will be presenting the Annual Santa Saturday in Unadilla, with Events being held at the Bauer Community Center at 246 Main Street, from 1:30 to 4:00 pm. Santa will arrive by Fire Truck at 3:00 pm. The parade will form at 2:30 on Sperry Street, off Clifton Street and proceed down Main Street to the Community Center. 37 year old Robert Stutzer of Stamford has been charged with arson & criminal Mischief in connection with an alleged arson at 2630 State Highway 7 in the town of Unadilla last Thursday. State Police reported that Stutzer was arrested shortly after the report of a fire at that location on February 16th, the investigation is continuing.

The Chenango Arts Council recently installed a full sized Movie Theater sized screen to the Martin W. Kappel Theater in Norwich, for the viewing of classic movies for the public. New Chenango Arts Council Interim Executive Director Alecia O'Neill said that the first movie is tonight, & they will start with a Mel Brooks Classic:

25 years after the “The Simpson” Homer at the Bat” episode aired, featuring Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith & Wade Boggs, the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum announced that they would pay tribute to that episode on Saturday, May 27. Boggs and Smith will join in a roundtable discussion from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. outside the Library entrance to the Hall, A brief ceremony Inducting Homer Simpson will be followed with the official ribbon cutting on a SIMPSONS-themed exhibit display in the Museum. THE SIMPSONS will also be honored prior to the Hall of Fame Classic legends game taking place that afternoon at Cooperstown’s historic Doubleday Field. Oneonta Police announced that 17-year-old Kobe Kimble and 17-year-old Gabriel Perez were arrested in connection to the knifepoint robbery of a SUNY Oneonta student in December. The teens were charged with Robbery, 4th degree Grand Larceny, Kimble was also charged with Criminal possession of a weapon, Menacing, & Petty Larceny. Perez was also charged with Petty Larceny and Harassment. Both were arraigned in & were held on $15,000 bail or $30,000 bond and remanded to the custody of the Otsego County Sheriff Department.
