Norwich Police arrested 43 year old Donald Craw of Delhi, following a vehicle pursuit Saturday that began in downtown and ended in a field off Chenango County Road l0A. At approximately 11:30 pm. officers attempted to stop a Craw's motorcycle after observing multiple traffic violations, he failed to comply and led officers on a pursuit, where he ran stop signs, nearly struck another motorist, and reached speeds double the posted limit. Craw traveled across a field & abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to flee on foot, he was caught after a brief struggle, & was taken into custody, Police recovered a large quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl, along with drug packaging materials and a digital scale, he was wanted on multiple warrants, Craw was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & Resisting Arrest, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on no bail. Additional charges are expected.
Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar announced the arrest of Kurt Compton of Nanticoke on rape and weapons charges this afternoon:

Sheriff Akshar said that Compton is currently being held at the Broome County Correctional facility, anyone with information on this case or Compton can call the Sheriff's Office Tipline at 607-778-1196.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle being operated by a driver known to have a suspended drivers license. Prior to conducting a traffic stop, Deputies observed the driver and the passenger switch seats. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Deputies observed drugs and paraphernalia in plain view & conducted a search of the vehicle, a quantity of crack cocaine and fentanyl was removed from the vehicle. Deputies arrested 23 year old Deanna Eignor of Hobart and 30 year old Dustin Roberts of Stamford for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Both Eignor and Roberts were released on appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced an 8 count indictment Friday has been filed against 54 year old Joseph Bellows of Downsville, from the crash that occurred in Hancock on July 17th, that resulted in the death of East Branch Assistant Fire Chief Jason McGlone. DA Smith said that the most serious charge of 2nd degree Manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 5 to 15 years in jail if Bellows is convicted.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Gerald Walke of Walton for Promoting Prison Contraband. On August 23rd, Delaware County Corrections Division, reported that Walke received a prohibited item during visitation and intervened, The item was recovered and the visitor was removed from the facility. Walke was processed and issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date to answer the charge.
On Friday, Delaware County Corrections Officers were conducting a search of 37 year-old Matthew McLean, of Delhi on unrelated Bail Jumping Charges, they located a crystal type substance folded into a one-dollar bill, which was revealed to be Methamphetamine. McLean was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility om $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
Governor Hochul has signed a new executive order to make COVID-19 vaccines more accessible to New Yorkers, which will allows pharmacists to prescribe and administer COVID-19 vaccines. The executive order will be effective for at least 30 days as a long-term legislative solution is developed.

The Susquehanna SPCA received 9 dogs & 2 cats rescued from the southern states following the recent hurricanes and they are looking to get the animals adopted into their new forever homes, according the executive director Stacie Haynes:

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce announced the launch of the 2025 National Civics Bee, aimed at encouraging more young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. Middle school students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade from public, private, charter, and home schools from across New York State are invited to take part in the first-round civics essay competition. The Delaware County Chamber will host its local competition in the spring of 2025. Winners from each of the local competitions across New York will be invited to take part in the state finals. Following the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 7-6 victory on Wednesday to win the World Series, the team and players have donated several artifacts that tell the story of their championship season, and those pieces will soon take a permanent place in Cooperstown. Among the items donated, Spikes worn by World Series Most Valuable Player Freddie Freeman in Game 1 and 2, the Glove worn by Walker Buehler, the winning pitcher in Game 3 who also saved Game 5 Cap worn by manager Dave Roberts, the Cap and chest protector worn by catcher Will Smith, all donated items will be featured in the Autumn Glory exhibit, which will be on display shortly, through the 2025 Postseason.
The Firefighters Association of the State of New York reminds residents that Daylight saving time ends on November 3 at 2:00 AM, they encourage everyone to test their smoke alarms as they turn their clocks back to make sure the devices are working and replace the batteries each year. Stats show that working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half, as people only have about 2 minutes to safely get out of a fire on average. more information is available at fasny.com.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of Donald Shurock Jr. On Monday, as members of the Sheriff’s Office took custody of Shurock at the Lackawanna County Prison in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Shurock was transported back to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office & was charged with Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Police Officer, for an incident on October 17th in the Town of Pitcher. Shurock is being held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on a Chenango County Court Warrant and will appear in the Chenango County Court at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of 37 year old Tyrell Adams of Pittsfield, who is accused of subjecting minors to persistent sexual abuse & for allegedly killing a family pet in the vicinity of children. Otsego County Family Court issued an order of protection against Adams prohibiting contact with multiple protected parties, he did send Facebook messages to one of the protected parties. Adams was recently located and taken in to custody without incident, he was processed and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment for Sex Abuse, Forcible Touching, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Animal Cruelty & Criminal Contempt.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Leo Guerrero of the Town of Otsego, for criminal mischief & Harassment, following the report of a domestic dispute on March 5th. Guerrero is accused of taking the victim’s phone to prevent the victim from contacting 911 & subjecting the victim to unwanted physical contact, he was released on his own recognizance following arraignment and the issuance of an order of protection.
New York's Maple Weekend events are planned statewide March 18-19 and March 25-26. Nearly 150 maple sugar makers will celebrate by teaching visitors about the processes and, of course, selling an array of maple products. more information is available at mapleweekend.nysmaple.com.
Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 14.1% in February compared to the same month in 2022, according to an analysis released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.64 billion, up $203 million compared to the same time last year. New York City’s collections totaled $718 million, an increase of 11.6%, or $74.5 million, over February of 2022. All counties experienced strong increases in February collections, with most seeing double-digit growth.
Joe Ermeti of Sidney announced his candidacy for Delaware County District Attorney, the position is on the ballot this year following the election of former District Attorney John Hubbard to the position of County Court Judge. Ermeti has been an attorney for more that 30 years of experience as an attorney, he has served as Town of Sidney Attorney, Village of Bainbridge Attorney, and Otsego County Assistant Public Defender, and operated his own law office in Sidney from 1993 until 2019. Ermeti will face will be running in the June 27th Primary against Acting Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith
Former Otsego County Sheriff Donald Mundy has passed away. Mundy served as the Sheriff from 1993 until 2006, he also founded the Otsego County Law Enforcement Academy in 1995 which still trains Law Enforcement Officers throughout the region, he also served as a New York State Trooper from 1963 to 1985.
Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will be performing at the Forum in Binghamton on Friday, May 5th with shows at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM. Tickets will go on sale on Friday, March 24th, at ticketmaster.com or at the Broome County Arena Box Office.

Deputies arrested Crandall Wednesday afternoon, she was arraigned at the Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on no bail, and was directed to appear in Family Court when it was next in session.

The kickoff meeting for the steering committee for the Oneonta downtown revitalization will be held on Tuesday September 27th, Oneonta mayor Gary Herzig told WCDO News of the timeline of events leading up to groundbreakings for projects:

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara announced Today that former top aide to Governor Cuomo; Joseph Percoco and 8 others are facing a wide array of federal corruption and bribery charges. Percoco served as the governor’s executive secretary, he is accused of taking more than $600,000 in bribes from an energy company that needed state approval to build a power plant in the Hudson Valley and an upstate developer that received several state contracts, as well as getting a job at the energy company for his wife. Percoco's attorney said that the accusations are baseless, and from less than credible sources
State Police arrested 55-year-old Donald Moshier of Lisle, for operating a motor vehicle while ability impaired by drugs, resisting arrest, menacing, unlawful possession of marihuana and several other traffic offenses. The arrest occurred after a trooper responded to check on a driver slumped over the steering wheel of his car on Smith Hill Road in the Town of Lisle. Moshier was asleep in the driver’s seat partly parked in the roadway. Moshier physically resisted being handcuffed, & is accused of swinging a metal flashlight at the trooper, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Broome County jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond.

The federal funding was allocated through the USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program. The City of Norwich will receive funds to cover additional work related to the removal of contaminated soil, which was delaying the start of the tank construction as part of the upgrades to the Norwich water system. The City of Norwich will now be able to complete their $2 Million plus water infrastructure improvement project in the near future.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara announced Today that former top aide to Governor Cuomo; Joseph Percoco and 8 others are facing a wide array of federal corruption and bribery charges. Percoco served as the governor’s executive secretary, he is accused of taking more than $600,000 in bribes from an energy company that needed state approval to build a power plant in the Hudson Valley and an upstate developer that received several state contracts, as well as getting a job at the energy company for his wife. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 51 year Donald Scott of Afton following an investigation into the manufacturing of methamphetamines. Deputies responded to 9 Blowers Hill in the Town of Afton after receiving information of a “1- pot” meth lab. Deputies reported that Lab equipment & chemicals used in the cooking process. The State Police assisted with the investigation & with the destruction of hazardous materials. Scott was charged with Unlawful Manufacturing Methamphetamines, he was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.

Insurance company AIG has agreed to pay New York state $35 million to settle claims that two former subsidiaries did business without licenses and misled regulators about their operations in the state. The deal was announced by the state Department of Financial Services. It comes after a $60 million settlement in March with MetLife, which purchased the subsidiaries from AIG. Authorities had alleged subsidiaries American Life Insurance Co. and Delaware American Life Insurance Co. sought customers in New York without licenses and without telling regulators. Under the settlement, AIG will drop a legal challenge to the state's probe and the state will not proceed with charges or a lawsuit

22-year-old Isaiah Criss of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court, to 25 years to life for the murder of 27-year-old Jeremiah Reynolds of Binghamton. Criss was found guilty of shooting and killing Reynolds at the Rock-B Tavern in Binghamton in September 2012. Criss was also sentenced to a concurrent term of 15 years for criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
The National Baseball Hall Of Fame announced today that on Memorial Day Weekend would feature 75 former major leaguers playing in 2014 Hall of Fame Classic at Doubleday field in Cooperstown. Hall of Fame Members Roberto Alomar, Andre Dawson, Rollie Fingers, Eddie Murray, Phil Niekro and Ozzie Smith will serve as managers and coaches for the sixth annual game on Saturday, starting with the Home Run Derby at 1 PM and the Classic at 2:05 PM.
