The State Department of Labor announced today that the number of private sector jobs increased by 24,200, from October to November to over 7.6 Million, the highest numbers since before the pandemic began to affect the state 22 months ago. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 6.9% to 6.6% in November 2021.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of an Inmate of the Delaware County Correction Facility, on a warrant issued by the Chenango County Family Court. 42-Year-Old Timothy Byrne had just completed his sentence on unrelated charges, & he was turned over to Chenango County for a violation of the New York State Family Court Act & faces court action shortly.
The American Red Cross continues to need eligible donors to give blood this holiday season, as they are seeing increased demand at a time with the lowest Holiday donation rates in the last 10 years, Meg Rossman of the American Red Cross comments:

State Police at Troop C in Sidney announced today that during the month of November, 55 impaired drivers were taken off the roadways of Troop C. State Police & other law enforcement agencies throughout the state will increase patrols targeting impaired driving during the holiday travel season, as the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative begins tomorrow & runs through January 1st, to reduce impaired driving over the holidays.
The State Minimum Wage will increase for some workers on December 31st. Workers in the upstate Counties will be paid a minimum wage rate of $13.20 per hour, up from $12.50 an hour. Earlier this year, the minimum wage for individuals working at fast food establishments anywhere in the Statewas established at $15.00 per hour, there will be no further increase for them on December 31st.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies stopped a vehicle Sunday for speeding, and made contact with the driver, 62-year-old Edmund McNamara of Norwich. McNamara’s driver’s license was suspended, he was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unlicensed Operator and Speeding, McNamara is scheduled to appear before the Town of Masonville Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Delaware County Department of Public Works reported today that the Corbett Road Bridge over the East Branch of the Delaware River and the Covered Bridge in Downsville have been re-opened to traffic this afternoon.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced over $136 Million Dollars in federal funding for 59 airports across New York State. The funding was allocated through the recently enacted Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and can be used for a variety of infrastructure improvements. Locally, the Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta & the Sidney Municipal airport will receive $159,000.

Delaware County Public Health reported 71 new cases of COVID 19 on Tuesday & Wednesday, 9.1% of those tested being positive. There are 296 active cases, 14 hospitalized and 482 quarantined. Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for people 18 and older today at 97 Main Street, Delhi. Moderna 1st or 2nd doses will only be available from 2:00 to 4:00 PM for walk-ins only, while Moderna boosters will be available from 2:00 to 4:00 PM with pre-registration required at apps2.health.ny.gov. Individuals receiving boosters, need to bring a copy of previous shot records to prove eligibility, for more information, call Delaware County Public Health at 607-832-5200.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the award of $216.2 million in enhanced assistance for 88 local governments to rehabilitate and replace bridges and culverts in every region of the State. This funding, provided through the State's BRIDGE NY initiative, supports projects that reduce the risk of flooding, improve resiliency of structures, facilitate regional economic competitiveness and prioritize projects that benefit environmental justice communities. The Southern Tier region will be funded for 9 bridges & 3 culverts in this latest round of funding.
The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce will host an informational ZOOM seminar this morning at 8:30 AM on Leadership Otsego 2022, which is a 6 month program that begins in February 2022. More information or registration is available at otsegoccny.chambermaster.com.

Attorney General Letitia James declared her candidacy for governor on Friday; she will face current Governor Kathy Hochul in Democratic primary next year. James help to bring down former Governor Andrew Cuomo following an investigation by her department into sexual harassment claims made by several women against Cuomo.
U.S. Marshals arrested a Georgia fugitive in Binghamton, who was wanted for a fatal shooting in Atlanta. Marshals arrested 21 year-old Dalonqueze Powell of Atlanta was arrested at a residence on Tracy Street in Binghamton, Marshals were assisted by State Police, Binghamton Police & several other agencies.
Governor Kathy Hochul reported that the numbers are slowly improving regarding COVID 19 in the state Saturday. over 166,000 were tested Saturday, with 3588 positives, for a positivity rate of 2.1% Patient Hospitalization are down to 1,842, the number of Patients in an ICU is down to 448 & the number on ventilators is down to 253, there were 26 deaths reported in hospitals & nursing homes Saturday.
Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation designating a portion of State Route 51 in the Town of Butternuts as SP4 Richard F. Walton, Jr. Memorial Highway. Richard Walton, Jr. was born and raised in the Town of Butternuts, he underwent basic training and medical training after enlisting, he volunteered to go to Vietnam, On February 6th, 1970, while serving in Vietnam, Walton lost his life in a helicopter crash.

Chenango County Public Health has witnessed an increase in COVID 19 cases lately, like its surrounding Counties have, Public Health Spokesman Isaiah Sutton commented:

Sutton said that they reported 140 active cases today, which includes 51 vaccinated cases, they are up to 344 people quarantined & 3 hospitalized, 2 of those are vaccinated.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that a violation of post release conditions imposed by the Village of Walton Court has resulted in the arrest of a Sidney man. Deputies & Sidney Police officers arrested 42-year-old Dana-John Britton of Sidney on the warrant for the parole violation after his release from the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Britton was arraigned in the Village of Walton Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
The Delaware County Board of Elections is reminding county potential voters that October 8th is the last day to register in person and to postmark a registration form for the November 2nd General Election. On this year's ballot is a Supreme Court Justice seat and many Town Offices, plus 5 State propositions and the Town of Colchester has one proposition on the Ballot. State Certified Child Safety Car Seat Technicians on hand to check for correct car seat installation, proper car seat fit for your child and the Chenango County Sheriff's Office will be replacing any car seats, at no cost to the family, that are found to be expired or do not properly fit your child. The State DEC announced that another State Free Fishing Day will be held Saturday, where anyone can fish in New York State and no fishing license is required. The Chenango County Sheriff's Department announced that a Child Safety Car Seat Check Event will be held on Saturday, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, at the Visions Federal Credit Union on State Highway 12 in Norwich. State Certified Child Safety Car Seat Technicians on hand to check for correct car seat installation, proper car seat fit for your child and the Chenango County Sheriff's Office will be replacing any car seats, at no cost to the family, that are found to be expired or do not properly fit your child. The State DEC announced that another State Free Fishing Day will be held Saturday, where anyone can fish in New York State and no fishing license is required. The victim of an August 5th shooting in Delhi has been released from the hospital. State Police said that 28 year old William Effner was shot by Roger Lynch of Franklin, who fled the scene and was killed by a member of the State Police Special Operations Response Team member during a standoff on August 6th. Effner was flown to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
State Police continue to search for the body of 57 year old James Jones of Louisiana in the Whitney Point Reservoir. Jones was Kayaking with a friend Saturday when his boat overturned & he failed to resurface.
Democrats announced their unanimous endorsement of Molly Fitzgerald of Binghamton for re-election in the race for the Supreme Court 6th Judicial District. In addition to her duties as a trial court Judge from 2008 until 2019, Justice Fitzgerald also served as the Administrative Judge for the Sixth Judicial District from 2016 through 2019.

U.S. Majority Leader Charles Schumer and US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand are calling for legislation to enhance penalties for automated and illegal phone calls. The DO NOT Call Act would increase penalties for individuals and companies intentionally preying on consumers through unsolicited and illegal robocalls. Research indicates that 4.5 billion robocalls targeted Americans in April; over 229 Million of them targeted New Yorkers, making it the 5th most-called state in the nation. Consumers lose approximately $40 billion a year through telemarketing fraud.
Sidney Police Department located a man Monday who was wanted in the State of Arkansas. 34 year old Robert Herbert was arrested on a violation of parole warrant issued from the State of Arkansas. He was arraigned virtually as a fugitive from justice and remanded to the Delaware County Jail to await extradition to Arkansas.

State Police announced that 3 men, including State Trooper Kevin Krause worked as a team to try to save a bald eagle on I-88 in Sidney, after it was hit by a side view mirror of a car. The unidentified driver did attempt to avoid the bird and did stop; the eagle was taken by the New York State ENCON Officer to a Wildlife Center. State Police told WCDO News today that the Wildlife Center did everything they could, including emergency surgery, but unfortunately, the eagle did not make it.

Utica Police have arrested 32 year old Vanessa Armstead of Buffalo for criminal possession of stolen property, criminal trespass, burglary, grand larceny and criminal mischief, after allegedly stealing a Kunkel Ambulance, which ended up in the Irondequoit Bay near Rochester Sunday afternoon. Armstead was involved in a separate crash on the Thruway on Saturday, and was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment, after she was released, she went to Union Station in Utica, but never got on a train, she is accused of stealing the ambulance from the station on Catherine Street Sunday morning, she drove to Victor New York & crashed the ambulance into the bay. Armstead was rescued from the water and taken to shore; she was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Monroe County jail on $3,500 bail.

Governor Cuomo today announced Grants to help small Businesses, struggling renters & their landlords emerge from the COVID 19 shutdowns:

Governor Cuomo also announced the 'Get a Shot to Make Your Future' incentive for 12- to 17-year-olds to get vaccinated for COVID-19, Participants can enter into a random prize drawing and potentially receive a full scholarship to a SUNY or CUNY college. Federal COVID-19 relief and outreach funds will be used to cover the cost of this vaccination incentive program.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand & others are calling on the United States Department of Agriculture to provide additional relief to New York dairy farmers that have taken a financial hit during the COVID-19 crisis. The Coronavirus Food Assistance Program or "CFAP" was created last year to provide direct relief to farmers and help keep them afloat as their clients closed down due to the pandemic, these payments were put on pause in January due to a 60 day regulatory review, when the review was over, and no payments to dairy farmers were announced:

Sidney Police Department responded Tuesday to a suspicious person complaint on Cartwright Avenue. Officers found a person sleeping on a discarded couch on the sidewalk, it was learned that 50 year old Richard Chlebuch of Philadelphia Pennsylvania was wanted on an active arrest warrant from Pennsylvania for a probation violation and on another warrant out of New Jersey. Chlebuch was arrested as a fugitive from justice and was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail to await extradition to Pennsylvania.
Village of Sidney Police Department arrested 2 people following an investigation into the sale of heroin and methamphetamine in the Village of Sidney. Police arrested 22 year old Colin Stanton of Sidney & 42 year old Jessica Ambrose of Sidney for criminal sale of a controlled substance. Both subjects were arraigned in Sidney Village Court & were released on their own recognizance & were ordered to appear back in court at a later date.

Officers seized methamphetamines, heroin, and illegally possessed prescription medication. 24 year old Cheyenne Davenport was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, she was wanted on a parole warrant & she was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail. 30 year old Zackery England was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, he was also wanted on an active warrant and he was remanded to the Chenango County correctional Facility without bail.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office responded to a 2 vehicle accident that resulted in the death of 37-year-old Justin Chordas of Chenango Forks early Tuesday Morning. Chordas was entering State Route 79 in the town of Barker, from a driveway when he collided with a Pick-up truck, Chordas was found unconscious & was extricated from the vehicle & was taken to Wilson Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The unidentified driver of the truck suffered minor injuries & was taken to Wilson, the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Delaware County Public Health nurses will be offering curbside single dose J&J vaccinations in front of the Public Health office at 99 Main Street in Delhi, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM every Wednesday beginning today, during the Delhi Farmer’s Market. All individuals 18 years of age and older that reside in the United States are eligible to be vaccinated, more information is available at 832-5200.
A bill sponsored in the State Senate by local Senator Peter Oberacker, unanimously passed both houses of the legislature this week. The new bill would amend the current law to allow air ambulances to administer transfusions while providing air transport services. The bill is headed to Governor Cuomo's desk for approval.

Police reported that Hannah never returned home from school last Thursday, April 15th, she was last seen wearing sweatpants, a pink sweatshirt with the word “Fly” on it, teal crocs and carrying a pink backpack with the word “Champion” on it, she did not have a cell phone with her. Bonser is accused of going to another residence & threatening the occupant with a knife & stealing his car. Bonser was spotted by a Broome County Deputy & Troopers, he was pursued until he crashed into another vehicle and a pole on Colesville Road. Bonser & the 87 year old driver in that crash were taken to Wilson Hospital. Bonser was processed at Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.
The Norwich Family YMCA announces the postponement of the 25th Anniversary Gus Macker Basketball in Downtown Norwich. With State guidelines for large scale events in New York State as they currently stand, Macker organizers cannot successfully manage a large "open access" event in our community and requirements as it would add extra costs to the implementation, they hope to have the 25th Macker tournament in July 2022 in Norwich.
The Rolling Antiquers of Chenango County announced that they are canceling their Memorial Day Weekend Car show this year. Organizers hope to hold their next show in 2022.

The Governor said that the whole experience has led to a package of nursing homes reforms that he is including in the state budget, so that a repeat of the slow response time to the next pandemic does not lead to more nursing home deaths.
Chenango County Public Health added 9 COVID 19 cases today, bringing their total to 2338 since the pandemic began. Their number of Active Quarantines went down by 14 to 181; hospitalization went down by 1 to 13, their active cases decreased by 2 to 52.
Otsego County Health Department reported 17 new COVID 19 cases Thursday, with 7 hospitalized & 92 active cases. 30 of their 49 COVID deaths have occurred since January 1st.
Norwich resident Shelby Benjamin has been named as this year's New York Dairy Princess earlier this week in a virtual ceremony. Benjamin will receive a $1,200 scholarship and will serve for a year as a dairy industry ambassador and advocate at events around the state.
New York's Health Insurance Open Enrollment Period will be further extended to May 15th, aligning with states across the country. With this extension, New York joins the federal Marketplace and other state-based Marketplaces giving consumers more time to enroll for 2021. New Yorkers can apply for coverage at nystateofhealth.ny.gov, or directly through insurers.

The Federal government has informed New York that nearly all COVID-19 vaccine doses allocated for Week 10; which were scheduled to be delivered between February 12th and February 21st, and are delayed due to the winter storms continuing to impact much of the country. Every dose that should have shipped on Monday was held back, and only a limited number of Pfizer vaccines left shipping facilities on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Department of Health is working with local health departments, hospitals & pharmacies to minimize the impact on their operations and reduce the number of appointments that must be rescheduled.

The Albany Times Union reported that The FBI and federal prosecutors in Brooklyn are investigating Governor Cuomo's handling of nursing homes from the early months of the pandemic in 2020. Subpoenas have been issued, the investigation follows investigations underway by State Attorney General Letitia James, the US Department of Justice & State lawmakers may also conduct an investigation, and minority Republicans in both houses are looking to scale back the Governor's emergency powers.
New York's health care distribution sites have administered 96% of first doses of the COVID 19 vaccines received for the first 9 weeks. The week 10 allocation from the federal government is beginning to arrive in the State, Approximately 10 million New Yorkers are currently eligible to receive the vaccine, over 350,000 doses are expected to be shipped each week for the next 3 weeks. The 'Am I Eligible' screening tool has been updated for individuals with comorbidities and underlying conditions with new appointments released on a rolling basis over the next weeks.
For the 2nd straight day, Chenango County Public Health had only 1 case of COVID 19 reported. The number of active cases fell by 5 to 54, there were 14 hospitalized again today, the number quarantined decreased by 11 to 195, the Total Confirmed Cases is 2329.

Major League Baseball officially released 2021 schedules for Minor League teams. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies will compete in a 120-game season, which will begin on May 4th, and end on September 19th. All home stands will be six games long, The Rumble Ponies first home stand will begin on May 11th at NYSEG Stadium. The Rumble Ponies will compete in the new Double A Northeast league, against many teams that previously played in the Eastern League.

Otsego County Health Department reported another COVID 19 death yesterday, with 13 new cases reported, 90 active cases & 9 hospitalized. Otsego County reports 49 total deaths from the virus, 30 of those since January 1st.
Delaware County Public Health reported that another person has died from COVID 19 related complications, the County has had 40 deaths. There were 16 new positives Wednesday out of 394 tested, 23 are hospitalized, 274 are quarantined & there are 138 active cases.
The Sidney Central School District reported that a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19, the staff member has not been on campus since Thursday, February 11th. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and the contact tracing has been completed. There will be no change to the instructional model at this time.

The State Health department reported that over 180,000 New Yorkers were tested for COVID Sunday, and 3.5% tested positive, the lowest level in 3 months. The number hospitalized has dropped to 6600, the number in ICU beds dropped to 1270, the number of Ventilators was down to 875, there were 103 COVID deaths Sunday from the virus.

State Police arrested 31 year old Kerri Bunnelle of Little Falls for Vehicular Manslaughter, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle and Aggravated DWI, following the investigation into an August 4 accident last year old State Route 8 in New Berlin, that killed 43 year old Matthew Fredericks of Herkimer. Police stated that Bunnelle was the driver of a GMC Envoy that crossed over into a Ford Focus head-on driven by Fredericks, who did not survive the crash. Bunnelle’s blood alcohol content was .23% & she also did not possess a valid drivers license. Bunnelle was virtually arraigned in the town of Norwich court and released on her own recognizance. She will appear in the Chenango County Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 57 year old Jose Hernandez from the Bronx, after failing to signal for a turn in the Village of Delhi February 10th. Deputies stopped the vehicle, Hernandez did not possess a New York State Driver’s License and his driving privileges were suspended in 2009, 2012 and 2016 because of narcotics related offenses. Hernandez was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to signal a turn, he was released and directed to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on a later date.

Robinson was arraigned by virtually by Town of Middletown Court, he was released on his own recognizance following the issuance of a temporary order of protection for the victim, he will appear in the Town of Walton Court on a later date. Robinson was turned over to the City of Norwich Police Department to be arraigned on an active Bench Warrant for failure to appear or pay a fine.
Sidney Police Department responded Thursday to a disturbance at a business in the Village. 34 year old Michael Ide of Otego was wanted on active arrest warrant from the City of Oneonta, he allegedly had a small quantity of crack cocaine and methamphetamines, he was charged with 2 counts of Criminal possession of a controlled substance & Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, he was released on appearance tickets and turned over to the City of Oneonta Police Department. That arrest led Sidney Police to request a State Police K9 unit to search a vehicle, where narcotics, drug paraphernalia, packaging material, a rifle and ammunition were discovered, 34 year old Brandon MacLaury of Guilford was charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and Criminal possession of a weapon, he was virtually arraigned & was released & will appear in court at a later date.

Deputies stopped the vehicle, Hernandez did not possess a New York State Driver’s License and his driving privileges were suspended in 2009, 2012 and 2016 because of narcotics related offenses. Hernandez was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to signal a turn, he was released and directed to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Walton, Deputies arrested 26 year-old Jeffery Robinson of Sidney Center for Harassment, 3 counts of criminal mischief and 1 count of criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. Robinson was arraigned by virtually by Town of Middletown Court, he was released on his own recognizance following the issuance of a temporary order of protection for the victim, he will appear in the Town of Walton Court on a later date. Robinson was turned over to the City of Norwich Police Department to be arraigned on an active Bench Warrant for failure to appear or pay a fine.
Sidney Police Department responded Thursday to a disturbance at a business in the Village. 34 year old Michael Ide of Otego was wanted on active arrest warrant from the City of Oneonta, he allegedly had a small quantity of crack cocaine and methamphetamines, he was charged with 2 counts of Criminal possession of a controlled substance & Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, he was released on appearance tickets and turned over to the City of Oneonta Police Department. That arrest led Sidney Police to request a State Police K9 unit to search a vehicle, where narcotics, drug paraphernalia, packaging material, a rifle and ammunition were discovered, 34 year old Brandon MacLaury of Guilford was charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and Criminal possession of a weapon, he was virtually arraigned & was released & will appear in court at a later date.
Delaware County Public Health reported 14 new cases of COVID 19 on Friday & again on Saturday & 12 on Sunday. The County reports 129 total cases, 22 hospitalized & 303 quarantined. Delaware County Public Health has vaccinated 613 people.
