Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 year old Ryan Decker of Walton Sunday, after Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 72 miles per hour in a posted 55 mph speed zone. Decker was stopped & a check of his driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Decker was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, speeding along with other charges, he was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.
Famed "Star Trek" star & Author George Takei is scheduled to be a speaker at SUNY Oneonta today at 7:00 PM at the Alumni Field House. Takei is the author of “They Called Us Enemy”, which is a New York Times Best Seller, in which he describes his experiences of growing up in internment camps in the United States as a Japanese American during World War II.

The Friends of Afton announced the return of Afton’s Annual Christmas Parade, scheduled for Saturday December 4th at 5:00 pm. Floats and vehicles will line up at Corporate Park off Route 7, Walking groups, bicycles, and golf carts will gather at the Afton Edge Apartments.

Yesterday was Election Day, The Delaware County Board of Elections did not announce a winner for the Sidney Town Supervisor’s race, between write-in candidates Eric Wilson & Kevin Greene, Officials told WCDO News it will take days or maybe even weeks to count & certify all of the write in votes across all 19 towns from this year's elections, there were 552 write in Votes Tuesday in Sidney Town Supervisors race. The winners for the Sidney Town board were Frank Selleck & Bill Heath, in the Town of Meredith, Town Council winners were John Janiszewski & David Briggs, the Town of Franklin Board seats go to Garret Sitts & Heather Ross, the town of Middletown Supervisor Will be Patrick Davis, the Town of Tompkins Clerk was Michelle Phoenix, in the Town Of Delhi, the supervisor will be Mark Tuttle, the Town Council winners were Margaret Baldwin & Matthew Kryston & the Walton Town Supervisor will be Joseph Cetta. In Chenango County, Sheriff Ernest Cutting was re-elected, The County Clerk winner is Brian Wessels, & the winners for the Norwich City Council are Fred Gee, William Loomis, Tom Revoir & Barry Christopherson. The State has already invested more than $3.1 billion in the region since 2012, recent REDC efforts in Binghamton have led to the building of the new Pharmacy School in Johnson City & the expansion of the Decker School of Nursing into a bigger facility.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 43 year old George Robinson of Delhi, on 7 additional felony charges following their investigation of complaints received from Fianncial Institutions in the County. Robinson was charged with 6 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & 1 count of 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Robinson is accused of acting in concert with 23 year old Justina Mastrorocco of Walton in stealing more than $3,000 by cashing 6 stolen and forged checks. Robinson was arrested in the Delaware County Jail where he is being held on bail on separate charges, he will be arraigned on the new charges at a later date.

State Police Superintendent George Beach announced that the State Police have launched a new recruiting effort to attract qualified candidates to become State Troopers. The State Police will be holding a new Trooper entrance examination this fall, on October 7th, 14th. 21st & 28th at several locations around the state. Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced his efforts to work with local municipalities under Governor Cuomo’s Shared Services Property Tax Savings Plan. The panel will be comprised of the Mayor or Supervisor from each city, town and village in Broome County. The first meeting of the Shared Services panel will be Thursday, April 13 at 10:00 AM at Cornell Cooperative Extension on Front Street; the public is invited to make recommendations at three public meetings. The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 20th in the Decker Room of the Broome County Library from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. If the plan is approved it will be presented to the public in September 2017.

U.S. Representative Richard Hanna announced a $120,000 grant for the Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University. The money will be applied toward the study of mental health, with an emphasis on training to meet the needs of 16 to 25 year olds. Another emphasis will be placed on rural and other vulnerable populations. In New York State, suicide is the leading cause of injury or death for children ages 10 to 14. Around 200,000 children live with serious mental health conditions.
Former New York Governor George Pataki is indicating he may run for president. Pataki, who served for 3 terms from 1995 to 2006, met recently with David Koch, the billionaire businessman and GOP backer. Pataki was a relatively unknown state lawmaker when he beat 3 term Governor Mario Cuomo in 1994. He easily won reelection in 1998 and 2002, but endured slumping popularity ratings in his final term, and chose to not run again.
