Oneonta Police arrested 28 year old David Thomas of Oneonta for attempted Murder, Assault and Strangulation, following a domestic dispute. Police accuse Thomas of twisting the unidentified woman's neck “in a violent manner,” causing extensive damage, she was transported to Fox Hospital & was transferred to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown where she required surgery.
State Police are seeking the public’s assistance locating the people responsible for throwing 2 dogs out of an SUV on I-81 Wednesday. Troopers patrolling I-81 in the Whitney Point area spotted a tractor trailer parked in the left lane, Wednesday morning, they observed the truck driver carrying one badly injured dog and another following behind him. A State Police K9 handler bandaged the injured dog to stop bleeding, the Broome County Humane Society was contacted and took possession of the dogs. The truck driver observed a Dodge Durango SUV slow down, roll down their rear window and throw the dogs out of the window. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 749-1614.
The Salvation Army Empire State Division provided nearly 4 million meals to individuals and families who needed it most, through last year’s Annual Red Kettle Campaign. This year, with just 10 ringing days left in this year’s campaign, the kettles are trending short of the statewide goal. Volunteer bell ringers are needed throughout The Salvation Army's 48-county region. An hour of bellringing yields enough money in the kettle to provide thirteen meals. Anyone interested in ringing the bell is invited to visit: http://bit.ly/beabellringer to sign up.
The New York State Department of Health is advising parents/guardians, caregivers and health care providers to be aware of the signs and symptoms of enterovirus EV-D68, which has now been confirmed in 39 children in New York State. EV-D68 can cause mild to severe respiratory illness, or no symptoms at all. EV-D68 infection most commonly results in mild symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, cough, body aches and muscle aches. Severe symptoms, may include wheezing and difficulty breathing. Recent cases in NYS have been confirmed among individuals who reside in Western and Central New York, the Capital Region and Long Island, and specimens have been received from other regions for specialized testing at Wadsworth. 18 Year Old Gunnar Hassard of Oneonta has been arrested and charged with a hate crime after allegedly posting pro-Nazi posters around the SUNY Purchase campus, where he was a freshman. Hassard is accused of hanging 16 posters containing Nazi imagery, swastikas and images of Adolph Hitler; he was arraigned in Harrison Town Court yesterday and charged with Aggravated Harassment in the First Degree, a class E felony.
The Department of Environmental Protection announced plans to build a $34 million hydroelectric facility at Cannonsville Reservoir, which should produce enough electricity to power more than 3,500 homes each year. DEP officials announced that they will host 2 public meetings today, 1 at 9:00 AM at the Deposit State Theater, at 148 Front Street in Deposit & another at 12:30 PM at the Upper Delaware Council office, 211 Bridge Street in Narrowsburg. State Senator Fred Akshar has posted a survey on his website to get constituents opinions on prospective legislation by State Senator Kevin Parker of Brooklyn, which would allow for background checks of the social media accounts for those seeking to purchase weapons:

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Department has arrested 31 year old Stephanie Shulgay of Worcester for 3rd degree Grand larceny. Shulgay is accused of stealing about $11,000 dollars from a Worcester family while working as a home aide. Shulgay was arraigned in Worcester Town Court & was released in his her recognizance pending future court action.

The Bainbridge Town Hall Theatre & Gallery Presents "The Christmas Spectacular" Saturday, featuring the Sidney Community Band performing seasonal music, the Out of the Woodwork Players performing the skit, and an appearance by Santa Claus. The show is a benefit for the Bainbridge and Sidney Food Pantries, starting at 2:00 PM with Free Admission, but food or cash donations will be accepted for the pantries.
The Village of Afton has scheduled their Christmas parade & festivities for tomorrow. Due to the current Bridge Construction, a New Parade Line up Location has been announced, on Court Street by the Afton Central School Athletic Fields, and the parking lot behind the Afton bus garage. The parade will go along State Route 41 & go along Main Street, participants are asked to arrive no later than 4:15pm. Also, live music is scheduled from Frankie Cepero starting at 4:00 pm in front of the NBT Bank, there will be refreshments provided by the Greater Afton Chamber of Commerce in the VFW.

State Police arrested 26 year old Jordan Dilello of Oneonta for DWI after a trooper was dispatched to a 1 car accident on Winney Hill Road in the town of Oneonta. The trooper observed a vehicle partially in a ditch and partially blocking part of the travel lane, Dilello & 21 of his 2 passengers were taken to Fox Hospital, he was released & was arrested & was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Oneonta Court on December 4th.
State Police arrested 43 year old Darcy Rogers of Greene for Aggravated DWI with a B.A.C of .23%. Troopers observed Rogers operating her vehicle in the village of Greene, a traffic stop was initiated and she was arrested. Rogers was released on appearance tickets returnable to the village of Greene Court on December 11th.

Many local artists and crafters will be featured, along with crafts for kids, a pancake breakfast, and a Chinese Auction, with proceeds benefiting the Student Council's Angel Fund which provides holiday food baskets for local families in need. Two people were injured when a Pickup Truck & Oneonta City School Bus collided Monday afternoon at route 8 & Country Club Road. The driver of the pickup, 35 year old Benjamin Goodwin of Laurens was ticketed for running a red light, the unidentified bus driver & a driver’s aid suffered minor injuries in the crash & were taken to Fox Hospital, 3 children on the bus were not injured.
Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig is expected to ask the Oneonta Common Council to re-name the Oneonta Municipal Airport in honor of former Oneonta Mayor & Businessman Sam Nader at their December 4th meeting. Nader rallied to have an airport established when he was mayor of Oneonta in the 60's.
The National Baseball Hall Of Fame & Museum will celebrate the Boston Red Sox’s 2018 World Series championship through Autumn Glory, the annual tribute to the World Series Champions in Cooperstown. The exhibit is now open, it features artifacts from the Red Sox, including a bat used by World Series MVP Steve Pearce, A jersey worn by David Price, Game-worn glasses used by Joe Kelly, a Hoodie worn by Red Sox manager Alex Cora in Game 5 & a Helmet worn by Brock Holt. The Autumn Glory display will be up through the conclusion of the 2019 Major League Baseball postseason.
The State DEC is continuing with their investigation into the shooting deaths of 8 deer & the injury of a 9th one, in Otsego County last week in the town of Milford. So far, no arrests have been made.
The Bainbridge Glow Gun Held at General Clinton Park raised over $5400 for Bainbridge native Bob Jinks. Money was raised at the event, plus through a local Bottle & can Drive, the amount raised was 270% above the initial goal, according to organizer Heather Bucalos of Sidney.
State Police Superintendent George Beach announced the line of duty death of Trooper Jeremy VanNostrand this morning. Trooper VanNostrand was reporting to work at the State Police barracks in Fonda when he was involved in a motor vehicle crash at about 7:45 AM. The investigation revealed that Trooper VanNostrand was stopped in traffic in his personal vehicle, waiting to turn into the station, when he was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic; he was transported to Albany Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Trooper VanNostrand served with the State Police for 6 years, he is survived by his wife & daughter, and funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.

Delaware County Sheriffs Department, State Police & the Trout Creek Fire Department responded to the report of a small plane crashing in the woods near Trout Creek, at about 3:00 this afternoon. Authorities have closed off Chase Brook Road & Readburn Road, they have not announced if there were any injuries or fatalities. WCDO news will have more information as it becomes available.
1st responders have been responding to multiple accident on I-88 this afternoon. A tractor trailer crashed between Harpursville & Afton, injuring a 68 year old man, and causing a small amount of oil to spill. Another crash near Harpursville resulted in 3 people being injured when a car slid off the highway & slid down an embankment. several other minor accidents have been reported, due to slick road conditions.

A tractor trailer crashed between Harpursville & Afton, injuring a 68 year old man, and causing a small amount of oil to spill. State Police are currently investigating a complaint on Wednesday ion the town of Franklin where 2 males posed as utility company workers while another person burglarized the home. 2 men wearing walkie talkies approached an elderly couple in front of their residence and distracted them, while the 3rd person entered their home and taken a large amount of cash, jewelry and coins. The suspects were in a white SUV with out of state plates. 1 man is described as Hispanic, clean shaven, approximately 50 years-old, approximately 5’3, 175 pounds, wearing a dark blue sweatshirt with matching sweatpants and a beanie hat. The 2nd man is described as 5’ 3”, a little older with facial hair and blue eyes, wearing blue jeans, a gray sweatshirt and a baseball cap, anyone with information should contact State Police at 432-3211 or 561-7400.

Forte had a BAC of .16%, twice the legal limit, he was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court & his next court appearance is November 13th.

Underwood was appointed as acting Attorney General in May following the resignation of Eric Schniederman, following multiple sexual abuse allegations. Underwood will return to her old job following the swearing in of new Attorney general Letitia James in January.
The Nassau County District Attorney will not attempt to prosecute former State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on charges of physical or sexual abuse. The DA's office announced that there were legal impediments, including statutes of limitations that prohibited their office from going forward with a prosecution of Schneiderman, who resigned in May after allegations by several women that Schneiderman abused them. Nassau county district attorney Madeline Singas had been appointed by Governor Cuomo to oversee the allegations against Schniederman, based on her expertise on prosecuting sex crimes.

A trooper on patrol observed the vehicle Taylor was operating fail to stop at a stop sign on South Canal Street in the village of Greene, a traffic stop was initiated and Taylor was released to a sober third party and is ordered to appear in the village of Greene Court today.

Binghamton Police announced the arrests of 22-year-old William Ritchie and 17-year-old Andrew Carter of Binghamton, in connection with a series of nazi symbols left a several locations around Binghamton. Both were charged with aggravated harassment and criminal mischief, designated as a hate crime. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

New Yorkers are voting for 1 US Senate Seat, All House of Representative seats, Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller & all seats in the State Assembly & State Senate. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 Delhi area residents on felony drug possession charges following the execution of a high risk search warrant at a Meredith Street in Delhi. Deputies seized bulk packaged heroin and 30 bags of packaged heroin, marijuana, a scale and drug packaging paraphernalia. Investigators arrested 50-year-old Ramar Hassell and 54-year-old Valerie Alexander of Delhi for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Hassell was also charged with Resisting Arrest. Investigators also arrested 25-year-old William Effner of Delancey and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument. All 3 were arraigned & were remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $100,000 cash bail pending their appearance in the Town of Delhi Court on November 9th.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will present a talk at The Glimmerglass Festival, scheduled for July 26th at 4:00PM. Last Year, Fox Hospital won the competition with 76 units of blood collected, followed closely by Oneonta Job Corps Academy, who gathered 68 units. The American Red Cross needs blood donations following a recently devastating series of hurricane disasters across the country, more than 36,000 units of blood are being used each day nationwide.

The items were taken between October 13 and 14 from two properties. The vehicle used in the crime is a maroon colored, four-door Nissan Frontier with a ladder rack, carrying two kayaks. He fled on foot behind the business; No one was hurt during the incident. He is described as a white male, medium build, clean shaven, wearing a green poncho, dark rain type pants, dark boots and a black knit hat with eye holes cut out. 28-year-old Devan Ellsworth of Norwich has been indicted for manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, for allegedly causing the death of his 20-month-old daughter in August in Norwich. Ellsworth was originally charged with assault following the August 27th incident, where first responders were called to Ellsworth’s home on Henry Street following the report of an unresponsive child, who died the following day in a Syracuse hospital. Ellsworth remains held in the Chenango county jail pending court action.

The City of Norwich Police Department will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. State Police arrested 36 year old Jennifer Warner of Port Crane for Grand Larceny, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Petty Larceny. Troopers were dispatched on July 22nd to the Cracker Barrel in Dickinson for the report of an employee’s vehicle stolen. The vehicle was located in a nearby parking lot; a wallet containing money and credit cards was reported missing. Warner is accused of walking into the restaurant and taking the victim’s keys. Warner was arrested and arraigned in the town of Dickinson Court & she was remanded to the Broome County Jail on cash bail pending future court action.

State Police arrested 44 year old Lynn Shearer of Windsor for Aggravated DWI with a reportable B.A.C of .19%. Troopers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle in a ditch on Morgan Road in Binghamton. Troopers located Shearer; she was arrested & was released on appearance tickets for town of Binghamton Court on October 29th.
The Binghamton Devils have partnered with the American Red Cross to benefit the Hurricane Michael Relief Fund during the weekend of October 19 and 20. Discounted tickets benefiting the relief fund will be available for the October 19 game against Syracuse and the October 20 game against Cleveland. State Police responded to a fatal accident Saturday at approximately 8:20 p.m. on State Route 23 in the town of Oneonta. 45-year-old Katy Doughty of Walton was crossing State Route 23 near State Highway 28 when she was struck by a vehicle, the section of road is not lit and she was not crossing at a crosswalk. 2 people provided CPR, Oneonta EMS and Fire attempted to provide lifesaving measures but were unable to, Doughty was pronounced dead at the scene, she was transported to Lourdes Hospital for an autopsy. The accident remains under investigation, no tickets have been issued.
State Police arrested 20 year old Andrew Keil of Oneonta for Falsely Reporting an Incident and Making a Punishable False Written Statement. Troopers were dispatched to a report of a burglary at Keil’s residence, he reported that approximately $1,360 was taken, Investigators were able to determine that Keil lied to troopers and signed a statement about the incident and he was arrested. He was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Oneonta Court on Tuesday.
State Police arrested 21 year old Alicia Randall of Edmeston for DWI, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer and Reckless Driving. A trooper on patrol on County Road 20 in Edmeston observed the vehicle Randall was operating to be traveling at a high rate of speed. When the trooper attempted to make a traffic stop, Randall passed another vehicle in a no passing zone then turned onto High Street before stopping, she was arrested and released an appearance tickets returnable to the town of Edmeston Court on October 29th.
The State DOT announced that work will be performed on the State Route 41 Bridge over Fly Creek in the town of Sanford, starting today. The work will require the closure of the bridge with temporary signed detours. Work will be performed weather permitting.

State Police at Deposit are investigating a fatal industrial accident the Courier Printing Corporation on Laurel Bank Avenue in Deposit today. The incident occurred at the loading dock. At this time, the name of the deceased is not being released. The investigation continues.
An unidentified Town of Milford resident surrendered 52 Llaso Apso dogs to the Susquehanna Animal Shelter in Cooperstown Tuesday. 10 of the dogs have been transferred to the Delaware Valley Humane Society in Sidney, DVHS Director Erin Insinga Commented:

Sidney Village Superintendent of Public Works Mike Mercurio announced that Norfolk Southern railroad will be closing the Union Street crossing starting tomorrow for routine repairs & maintenance, the crossing will be closed until further notice by the railroad.
Delaware County Planning department will be seeking public input to create the county's 1st comprehensive plan. A public meeting will be held today at the Hamden Town Hall from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.
State Police at Norwich arrested 36 year old Michael Brown of Pitcher for 3rd degree Assault, Menacing & Harassment, after Troopers responded to a physical dispute where Brown is accused of threatening 3 women with a pocket knife. Brown sustained lacerations and was treated at Chenango Memorial Hospital, he was taken into custody and arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond and is to appear in the town of Pitcher Court on October 16th, an order of protection was issued to all 3 women.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52 year old Jason Babcock of Sidney for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, and several Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations. Babcock was charged after a traffic stop in the Town of Norwich, he was found to be in possession of approximately 6 grams of cocaine, marihuana, and an open container of alcohol. Babcock was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court; he is scheduled to appear back in court at a later date.
state Police at Oneonta arrested 46 year old Tracy Neves of Otego for DWI & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Troopers initiated a traffic stop following the report of a driver acting suspiciously in the town of Oneonta, Neves was intoxicated and in possession of hydrocodone pills, he was arrested and arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court, he was released on his own recognizance and scheduled to reappear on October 18th.
State Police arrested 37 year old Kelly French of Binghamton for DWI, after a trooper was dispatched to a vehicle on Interstate 88 driving the wrong way. French was located on the side of I-88 in Afton after she ran out of gas; she was issued appearance tickets for town of Afton Court on October 22nd.
The Oneonta Common Council will hold the next regular meeting this evening. The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM in the council chambers at Oneonta City Hall.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 18 year old Dana Bitter of Oyster Bay on 1 count of driving while ability impaired by drugs. Bitter is accused of operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs & that a passenger in Bitter’s vehicle was suffering from a drug induced overdose. The passenger was treated on scene and subsequently transported to Delaware Valley Hospital, Bitter was released on tickets returnable to Walton town court at a later date.
Sheriff’s Deputies and NYS DOT Inspectors conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on State Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden. 6 inspections were conducted, Deputies issued 15 summonses for various safety violations including defective brakes, unsafe tires, fuel leaks, uncovered load, inoperable lamps, steering gearbox loose from frame, insufficient warning devices, frame cracked, major oil leaks and a flat tire. 3 of the commercial vehicles were taken out of service.

Judicial District, they unanimously selected Chenango County District Attorney Joe McBride to run as the Party's candidate in this November's election. The vacancy in

Sidney High School Senior J.P. Dewey has been selected to perform with the NYSSMA Conference All-State Jazz Ensemble in Rochester this fall. Dewey will be playing
piano in the 18-piece ensemble, and will also attend the music conference from November 29-December 2, he will also be eligible to perform with the ensemble in March
as part of NYSSMA Day festivities in Albany.
A judge has denied a motion by ex-Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver regarding his bail request, pending the appeal of his corruption conviction and seven-year prison term. U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni has denied Silver's request Monday, she stated that the substance of Silver's appeal lacks merit, and the sole purpose of the request was to stall Silver starting his prison term on October 5th. Silver was sentenced to 12 years in prison after his first conviction in 2015, that conviction was overturned after the U.S. Supreme Court redefined the boundaries of public corruption, then a 2nd jury convicted him
earlier this year, for taking $5 million illegally by using his political power for personal gain.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. New York has more than 35,000 farms covering 7.3 million acres, nearly one quarter of the state’s land area. Milk is by far the state’s
largest agricultural commodity, with $2.7 billion in sales in 2017, New York vineyards covered 35,000 acres in 2017, producing 187,000 tons of grapes, surpassed only by
