State Police & multiple area Fire Departments responded to 68 White Birch Lake Road in the town of Windsor Sunday for a house fire. 84 year old Daniel Price, was located deceased inside the residence by members of the Windsor Fire Department. An 82-year-old female and a 53-year-old male were transported by ambulance to Wilson Medical Center for what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar will be hosting a Public Safety Town Hall at 6:00 PM today for residents of Windsor and the surrounding communities. The Public Safety Town Hall will take place at the Village of Windsor Community House, Community members are invited to attend and hear the latest public safety updates, ask questions and discuss safety for residents and motorists.

Next Tuesday, from 6pm - 7:30pm, Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar will be hosting a Public Safety Town Hall for residents of Windsor and the surrounding communities. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 people following the execution of a search warrant in the Town of Laurens. 31 year old Ronald Neu of Laurens was charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Feeding Devices. 21 year old Christopher Beech, was arrested on an outstanding warrant , as was 23 year old Alyssa Jones, & 20 year old Rafail Tsiraouglou. Deputies & Oneonta Police executed a search warrant, all individuals were detained for further investigation, Beech and Jones were turned over to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police respectively, Tsiraouglou was turned over to Immigration Officials. Weapons & narcotics were seized, Neu was lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

State Police Troop “C” Traffic Incident Management unit in partnership with the Department of Transportation held an Operation Hard Hat enforcement in Windsor along State Highway 17 east between exits 78 and 79. In just over four hours, 75 tickets were issued, 58 for Speeding, including 1 person was observed and ticketed for traveling 92 mph in the 55 mph active work zone.

2 Broome County Corrections officers have been suspended without pay, following an incident of unnecessary use of force during an interaction with an incarcerated individual with suicidal pronouncements at the Broome County Correctional Facility on July 23rd. Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar held a press conference, he said that corrections officers responded to a housing unit where an incarcerated individual was refusing to return to his cell and he was escorted to the Medical housing unit for observation, Sheriff Akshar explains:

Sheriff Akshar said that the officer; 39 year old James Woodard of Windsor was charged with Official Misconduct & Harassment, Both Woodard and the other unidentified officer were immediately suspended without pay while both the investigation and internal disciplinary processes continue, the case has been reported to the state’s Commission of Correction and the state’s Attorney General's office. State Police responded to a crash on I-86 where 4 people sustained minor injuries, including one DOT worker. An investigation revealed that 4 vehicles were traveling east on I-86 in Windsor when traffic slowed for a construction vehicle that was exiting the lane of travel and going into the construction area. A tractor trailer was unable to stop and rear ended a car, which was then pushed into a parked DOT vehicle within the construction zone and also another car traveling in front of the 1st vehicle, 4 people were transported to Wilson Medical Center for minor injuries.

Congressman Marc Molinaro's constituent service team will hold mobile office hours from 10:00am to noon today at Windsor Village Hall, constituents will be able to connect with representatives from Rep. Molinaro's office to share comments and resolve issues they are having with federal agencies like the VA, IRS, and Social Security Administration.

State Senator Peter Oberacker will hold a fundraising Barbecue today, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The event will be held at the Senator's headquarters on Route 7 in Schenevus.

Graduation Ceremonies will be held at several area School Districts today. Gilbertsville-Mount Upton will have theirs at 5:30, Milford at 6:00 PM, Sherburne-Earlville at 6:00 PM at Colgate University, Charlotte Valley & Windsor at 6:30 PM, at 7:00 PM, Graduation Exercises will be held for seniors of Afton, Andes, Edmeston, Franklin, Hancock, Norwich, Deposit, Morris & Otselic Valley.

The Butternut Valley Alliance has announced a partnership with SFCU, to take the necessary measures to open a full-service branch in Morris. This development comes after the "Save Our Bank" task force was formed, as Community Bank NA had announced plan last year to close their Morris Branch. Butternut Valley Alliance Vice Chair Maggie Brenner explains:

Brenner said that the BDD process can take 6 to 12 months, meanwhile, SFCU plans to begin offering limited services with a representative assisting businesses and residents in opening accounts, The Alliance will try to find out Community Bank's plans with their former office in Morris, to see if it can become a new branch for SFCU.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested a Kirkwood man for 3 gas station robberies. The 1st Robbery was on May 9th, at the Speedway gas station on Route 7 in Sanitaria Springs, where a male with a black shirt wrapped around his hand, implying he had a weapon, and grabbed a cash register & fled the scene in a gray Ford F-150 pickup truck. The 2nd Robbery was at the Mirabito gas station on Old Route 17 in Windsor, Sheriff Deputies identified the suspect vehicle and potential suspect as 46 year old Clint Loomis of Kirkwood. On Friday, a 3rd Robbery occurred at a gas station in Greene, Loomis was located on Route 12 in the Town of Chenango, A Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Loomis resisted, a Taser was deployed but Loomis drove off, Tire deflation devices were set up, Loomis damaged his tires but continued to flee, eventually leaving the vehicle on foot, he was apprehended. Loomis was wanted on a warrant, & was charged with Robbery, Obstructing governmental administration, reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing Police, Resisting arrest & 26 traffic violations, he was being held for arraignment.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Scott Hanrahan of Sanford for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of an Assault Weapon & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On Saturday Broome County Sheriff’s Road Patrol conducted a traffic stop on Route I-86 West in the Town of Windsor, deputies located cocaine, along with various assault weapons & multiple rounds of ammunition, Hanrahan had previous felony convictions & is facing new charges for illegal weapon and drug possession following the traffic stop. Hanrahan was arraigned at Central Arraignment Part and remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Geoffrey Brooks of Windsor, for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and several traffic violations following a traffic stop and pursuit in the Town of Dickinson, Brooks will face court action on the charges shortly.

The Harpursville Fire Department responded to a fire Saturday at 329 Hartz Road in the Town of Colesville. Harpursville Firefighters were assisted at the scene by firefighters from Windsor, West Windsor, Deposit, Masonville, Greene, Afton, Port Crane & several other departments responded, firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading, there was mostly smoke & water damage.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Margaret Will of Windsor on an outstanding warrant and charged with Bail Jumping after failing to appear in court multiple times to answer for separate petty larceny charges in the Town of Windsor, she faces court action shortly.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Monday in the Town of Chenango to meet with a domestic violence victim in the Town of Colesville. The female victim and her 2 young children fled their residence due to a physical dispute, Deputies utilized the Lethality Assessment Program and advocates from Crime Victims Assistance Center responded to provide victim safety and support services. 30 year old Timothy Backes of Windsor is accused of violating an order of protection & physically assaulting the victim, Deputies located Backes & charged him with 2 counts of Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Family Offense & Harassment, he was taken to Broome County Central Arraignment and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, he attempted to contact the victim to solicit funds for bail, violating the Order of Protection again, he was additionally charged with another count each of of Criminal Contempt & Aggravated Family Offense, & was remanded after arraignment on the new charges.
