Fire Departments from Harpursville, Ouaquaga & Windsor responded Sunday afternoon to a trailer fire at 2636 State Route 79. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby house, no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Windsor Central School District will hold a special vote on two propositions today; the 1st is a $27.5-million-dollar Capital Improvement Project with 85% state aid & capital reserves covering the costs. The 2nd proposition is for the purchase of three 66-passenger buses at a cost not to exceed $390,000 dollars, the new buses would replace old busses with high mileage, and State aid would cover 90% of the cost with the rest coming from the district's annual budget. SUNY Broome admitted the Windsor High School’s entire Senior Class of 2022 to the college in the Windsor/SUNY Broome College Express Partnership event last Wednesday. Windsor Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Scott Beattie told WCDO News that this is the classic Win Win for all parties:

The State Department of Transportation announced that State Route 28 near Frank Slawson and Epps roads in the town of Franklin will close starting today for a culvert replacement over Knapp Brook. DOT Officials stated that motorists on State Route 28 will be detoured to take state Route 23 to Davenport Center and then take county Highway 10 to Meridale to connect back to state Route 28, the project is expected to be completed on September 22nd. Also, starting today, Old Route 17 in the Town of Windsor will undergo culvert construction; a road closure is near the intersection of 17 and Ostrander Road. Old Route 17 will likely be closed for 2 months & is scheduled to reopen around November 9th.

STATE POLICE reported that 57 year old James Jones of Louisiana was recovered from the Whitney Point Reservoir around 9:00 AM Tuesday, he was kayaking with another person when his kayak tipped over. His kayak was located but he did not resurface. The incident remains under investigation. Troopers were assisted by Broome County Sheriff’s, Chenango County Sheriff’s, Broome County Emergency Services, Broome County Technical Rescue Team, Whitney Point Fire, Harpursville Fire, West Windsor Fire, Chenango Bridge Fire, Vestal Fire, Killawog Fire, Lisle Fire, Greene Fire, Marathon Fire, Triangle Fire, Broome Ambulance, Greene Ambulance, Marathon Ambulance and Broome Security Division.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant Friday in Windsor, officer seized Methamphetamines, Fentanyl, weapons & drug paraphernalia.  Police arrested Shawn McCabe of Windsor on a variety of Weapons & Drug Charges, he was being held at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility pending arraignment.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Jaime Crowley of Windsor, following a deputy-involved shooting in the Town of Windsor.  Crowley surrendered himself to authorities after he was released from the hospital, he was charged with Aggravated possession of a weapon, 6 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, 2 counts of menacing a police officer & Reckless endangerment.   Deputies responded on July 3rd to a report of shots fired at a car making a K-turn at a residence on Cascade Valley Road, when deputies arrived, Crowley was pointing a handgun at officers, they demanded Crowley drop the weapon multiple times before they shot him in the shoulder, Crowley fired 1 round back, no deputies were injured. Crowley was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility pending future court action.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office is investigating a rollover crash This Morning on State Route 17 in Windsor.  The accident occurred around 3:00 this morning, Deputies found the vehicle, but not the driver, the investigation is continuing.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted State Parole Officers recently with locating and arresting 40 year-old William McLean of Hobart on a Parole warrant issued by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.  McLean was found in possession of 6 different controlled substances at the time of his arrest and was charged with 6 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to be held as a parole violator pending a future parole revocation hearing.   McLean was issued an appearance ticket to Town of Stamford Court on a later date to answer the drug possession charges.

The Community Cultural Center of Sidney will have their official Ribbon Cutting ceremony this Saturday at 1:00 PM, at the corner of Bridge & Main Street. The 1st use of the building will be for an art exhibit, and then many other options will be available, according to Executive Director Pat Cristelli:

UPDATE IN MANHUNT:

Just after 4:30 p.m., Jason Johnson was taken into custody near a river bank off State Route 79 in Colesville.

EARLY AFTERNOON UPDATE:

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies and State Police responded to East Windsor Road in Colesville to check on the welfare of an individual at 8:35 PM Wednesday night, . Law enforcement did exchange gunfire with Johnson, State Trooper Becky Seager was shot in the hip & was taken to Wilson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Multiple agencies are looking for 34 year old Jason Johnson this afternoon, he is described as a white male, 5’7 and 160 pounds with a Mohawk style haircut, he was last seen in the East Windsor Road area near Thorn Hill. He is considered armed and dangerous, It’s possible that Johnson may be operating a 1996 Ford F-250 pick-up truck, blue in color with the NY license plate HZV7759, Police said that the public should not approach him and should call 911 immediately.

Sidney Town Supervisor Gene Pigford passed away Sunday at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.  Pigford was an officer for the Salvation Army for 40 years & served as Sidney Town Supervisor for the last 7 1/2 years.  Calling hours will be held from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Wednesday at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street in Sidney, Graveside services will take place at 1:00pm on Thursday, June 10, 2021 in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, in Unadilla.  Pigford was 76.

11 new pop-up vaccination sites will open in areas where the vaccination rate is significantly lower than the statewide average. In the Southern Tier, a pop up site will be at the Windsor Fire Department at 4 Academy Street in Windsor this Saturday, June 12th.

State Police are asking for the public’s help in locating missing runaway, 16 year old Hannah Riley of Windsor.  Police reported that Hannah never returned home from school last Thursday, April 15th,  she was last seen wearing sweatpants, a pink sweatshirt with the word “Fly” on it, teal crocs and carrying a pink backpack with the word “Champion” on it, she did not have a cell phone with her.  Anyone with information about Hannah Riley's location should contact New York State Police at Binghamton at 775-1241.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies & SUNY Delhi University Police responded to a physical domestic disturbance involving a weapon on Main Street in Delhi last week.   Deputies arrested 59 year-old Alan Reese with 2nd degree burglary, Criminal contempt & criminal possession of a controlled substance.  Reese is accused of unlawfully entering a residence in violation of an order of protection and engaging in a domestic dispute with the victim.  Reese was arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail pending his re-appearance in the Town of Hamden Court on a later date.

State Police were dispatched to a report of a motorcycle crash on Atwell Hill Road in the town of Windsor.  61 year old David Enyart of Windsor was traveling south on Atwell Hill Road when his motorcycle had a mechanical failure causing him and his bike to go off the road into the ditch.  Enyart was transported by ambulance to Wilson Hospital & was transferred to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 49-year-old Kenneth Drumm of Waverly, following the execution of a search warrant in Windsor yesterday.  Drumm was charged with multiple counts of criminal sale & criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia & Criminal possession of a weapon.  Police seized crystal meth, a loaded shotgun, digital scales, and packaging materials used for weighing and packaging narcotics for sale.  Drumm was being held at the Broome County Sheriff's Correctional Facility pending court action.

Governor Cuomo announced that 12 community-based pop-up vaccination sites are being set up around the state, with an expectation to vaccinate over 3700 people throughout the week.  The Southern Tier vaccination site will be at the American Civic Association, 131 Front Street in Binghamton today from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

A.M. NEWS FRIDAY 2-12-21

State Police updated their information regarding Thursday's crash of a garbage truck on State Route 17 in the town of Windsor.  The unidentified 64 year old driver from the Bronx was traveling at an unsafe speed, and made an unsafe lane change, he went through the guiderail and into the median, struck an earth embankment, the truck continued & the tractor became detached & overturned and came to rest in the median between the over passes for State Line Road.  The driver was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, the truck is registered to Lae Transport Corp in Newark, New Jersey, the investigation is continuing.

P.M. NEWS THURSDAY 2-11-21

State Police and the State Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit responded to a tractor trailer rollover on State Route 17 in the Town of Windsor, at about 11:00 this morning. Police said that no other vehicle was involved.  The driver was transported to a local hospital.  One lane of 17 east bound and one lane of 17 west bound was closed near exit 81; the cause of the accident is under investigation.

State Police in Troop “C” issued 672 vehicle and traffic law tickets during the Super Bowl weekend.  Police issued 218 speeding tickets, 15 safety restraint violations,   18 for the Move Over law, 10 for distracted driving, 9 for driving while intoxicated/driving while impaired, Troopers responded to 30 accidents over the weekend and responded to 314 calls for service.

A.M. NEWS MONDAY 2-8-21

State Police are investigating a fatal crash Friday night, where 50-year-old Douglas Parker of Halstead, Pennsylvania, was traveling west in the eastbound lanes, he struck a GMC SUV head-on driven by 27 year old Brooke Seidel of Windsor, her passengers were a 29-year-old male passenger and children ages 1, 3 and 4.  Seidel attempted evasive action but was struck head-on by Parker's vehicle, she went into a guardrail, Parker's vehicle rolled over & he was ejected.  A third vehicle was struck by debris, the driver was not injured.  Parker died at Wilson Hospital, Seidel's passengers escaped the vehicle, she was extricated & later died at Wilson Hospital, 2 of the children suffered bleeding to the head & face.

State Police arrested 36 year old Paul Zandt of Deposit for 3rd degree Assault. The arrest stems from an investigation of an altercation Saturday at Dollar General in Windsor. Zandt is accused of striking the victim in the face in the parking lot of Dollar General then leaving the area. The victim was checked out by Eastern Broome Ambulance but was not transported to a hospital. The victim and Zandt did not know each other prior to the incident. Zandt is a State Trooper, but was not on duty at the time of the incident, he was arrested and released on appearance tickets to the town of Windsor court on January 25th.
