Assemblyman Cliff Crouch is hosting 3 town hall meetings this week in Kirkwood, Windsor and Triangle.  Crouch told WCDO News about the town hall meeting and why he tries to schedule as many as he can each fall:

The first meeting will be Today at 5:00 PM at the Kirkwood Town Hall, the 2nd meeting will be on Wednesday, at 6:00 PM at the Windsor Town Hall, and the 3rd will be on Thursday at 6:00 PM at the Triangle Town Hall on Liberty Street in Whitney Point.

Several fire departments responded to a fire at 333 Old Route 17 in Windsor this morning.  Fire fighters from Windsor, West Windsor, West Colesville, Harpursville and Oquaga responded.

State police arrested 29-year-old Daniel Nichols of Windsor for DWI & aggravated unlicensed operation.  The arrest resulted from a car & tractor-trailer accident on State Route 17 in Kirkwood.  The investigation determined that Nichols was intoxicated when he crashed his car into the back of a stationary tractor-trailer that had pulled over.  He was issued tickets returnable to the Kirkwood town court on November 12th.

State Police in Binghamton arrested 21-year-old Andrew Pello of Windsor for 3rd degree criminal mischief and 3rd degree criminal trespass following an investigation in which Pello allegedly damaged numerous athletic fields at the Windsor High School by driving a vehicle on the fields and damaging the grass and a pole.  Pello was arraigned in Town of Windsor court and released pending a future court appearance.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joe Vandermark following a 1-vehicle crash on Chapel Street in the Village of Windsor early Sunday Morning.  .  Deputies apprehended Vandermark a short distance away from the crash.  The investigation revealed that Vandermark’s vehicle left the roadway and struck cable guide wires, his BAC was more than 3 times the legal limit of .08 percent.  Vandermark was charged with felony DWI, felony aggravated DWI, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving on the shoulder of a highway, He will re-appear in Town of Windsor court at a later date.

State police located stolen property from a Pennsylvania burglary in Binghamton; troopers arrested 21-year-old Dana Miller of Binghamton for criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession weapon and unlawful possession of marihuana, for allegedly possessing an illegal dagger and small amount of marihuana.  Troopers also arrested 24-year-old Jeremy Rogers of Binghamton and 55-year-old Ricky Spencer of Binghamton for 1st degree Burglary.  The investigation also determined that Rogers and Spencer had allegedly burglarized a residence in Windsor earlier this month.  All three suspects were arraigned at the Binghamton town court and remanded to the Broome County Jail.  The investigation is ongoing.

State Police arrested 24-year-old Ryan Meyerhoffer of Windsor for driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation and other vehicle and traffic law violations.  The arrest followed an investigation into a 1-car accident on Interstate 81 in Binghamton, Meyerhoffer was found to be intoxicated and having a suspended driver license.  He was processed, refused a breath test, and was issued tickets returnable to the Binghamton court on October 4th.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer confirmed that several local river gauges will receive funding through 2014.  The funding avoids an October 1st shut off, at gauges on the Susquehanna River at Bainbridge, Windsor and Binghamton, the Unadilla River at Rockdale and the Chenango River at Sherburne and Greene. Schumer noted that the funding does not include all river & stream gauges, and he will continue to pursue permanent funding sources.

Police arrested a Windsor a man for allegedly stealing nearly $20,000 worth of merchandise from a Conklin business. Broome County deputies arrested 44 year old Greg Rought, who is charged with stealing tools and gift cards from E. Systems Group in Conklin on Aug. 14. Rought was arraigned in Town of Dickinson Court and sent to the Broome County jail. Anyone with any information should call the Sheriff's Office at 778-2053

23-year-old Ashley Carnevale of Kirkwood was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison for aiding her husband in a deadly 2009 home invasion. Carnevale pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and first-degree attempted assault in connection with the incident, which occurred Jan. 20, 2009, at 503 Kent St. in the Town of Windsor.
She admitted that she and her husband, Anthony Carnevale III, acted in concert that day, intentionally shooting and killing 39-year-old Jean Clark of Parsons, Pa., and seriously wounding resident Ethan Button while trying to steal prescription medication from them.

The State Police Special Investigations Unit arrested 49-year-old Anthony Vaccaro of Windsor, for Grand Larceny and Falsifying Business Records.  Vaccaro is accused of stealing, transporting and re-selling stolen fuel to cash paying customers at a discounted rate; he is accused of stealing over $80,000 dollars worth of fuel.  Vaccaro was indicted by a Grand Jury and he was arraigned and was remanded to the Tioga County Jail on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond pending additional court action.

State Troopers arrested 49-year-old Juan Cartagena of Windsor for Driving While Intoxicated.  Cartagena refused a breath test after being pulled over during a traffic stop on State Route 11 in Kirkwood last weekend, he was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court on July 30th.

State Troopers arrested 66 year old Thomas Catucci of Deposit for Driving While Intoxicated. The arrest resulted from an investigation following a complaint registered about a suspicious vehicle at a business on State Route 79 in Windsor.   Catucci was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Windsor Court on July 17th.

High graduation ceremonies will be held in the tri county area today through Sunday.  Commencement exercises begin tonight in the Windsor district at 6:30 PM, followed by the Afton graduation at 7:00 PM in the gymnasium, Franklin at 7:00 PM in the High School auditorium, in the Unatego at 7:00 pm at the High School Football field or the gymnasium if the weather turns.  Also holding 7:00 PM commencement exercises, the Laurens, Milford, Morris & Deposit school districts.

State Troopers in Binghamton arrested 44-year-old Robert Snedeker of West Windsor for Felony DWI. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on I-81 in Binghamton; Snedeker was arraigned in the Town of Conklin Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

23-year-old Ashley Carnevale pleaded guilty to 1st degree manslaughter  & 1st degree assault in Broome County Court Wednesday.  Carnevale and her husband shot and killed one person and injured another back in Windsor in 2009 while burglarizing a home in search of drugs. The guilty plea came as part of a plea deal prior to the start of a 2nd trial, Carnevale will be sentenced to concurrent terms of 15 years in prison, and she has waived her right to appeal.

State Troopers arrested 24-year-old Thomas Reeves of Port Crane for Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument. The arrest resulted from a search of Reeves' belongings at the Deposit station while he was there for questioning on separate matter. Reeves was arraigned in the Town of Windsor Court and released on his own recognizance to appear at a later date.

State police executed search warrants in Windsor and Colesville, which led to the seizure of meth labs in 2 homes and the arrests of 3 people.   Police arrested 39-year-old DONALD SIBLEY, 36 year old JENNIFER CREA of Windsor; and 32 year old NATE DENDLER of Colesville, on a variety of drug charges, following a month long investigation by several law enforcement agencies.  Police confiscated 16 ounces of liquid methamphetamine; 2 grams of processed methamphetamine; drug paraphernalia and items used to manufacture meth, a .40 caliber semi automatic pistol with ammunition.  SIBLEY, CREA and DENDLER were arraigned in Town of Kirkwood Court and remanded to Broome County Jail without bail.   Further charges are pending and the investigation is continuing.

38-year-old Thomas Lancaster of Binghamton has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting two women.  Lancaster was arrested for assaulting the 2 victims over a 2-year period in the towns of Colesville & Windsor.

State Troopers arrested 44-year-old Richard Phillips of Windsor,  for Petty Larceny. The arrest resulted from a complaint at a market in Kirkwood,  Phillips was arraigned in the Town of Kirkwood Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

State Troopers arrested 23-year-old Deanna Olmstead of Windsor for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC of .19%. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle accident on State Route 17; Olmstead was issued traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court on March 7th.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman today announced that he is leading a coalition of more than a dozen states in filing a friend-of-the-court brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which refuses to recognize for same-sex marriages valid under state law. The brief will be filed today in the case of United States vs. Windsor, other states involved in the filing include Massachusetts, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and the District of Columbia.

State police have arrested 45-year-old Jose Gonzalez of Windsor following a 7-hour stand off yesterday on Bennet road in Windsor.  Police responded to the report of a domestic dispute, where Gonzalez allegedly threatened 2 people with a rifle and barricaded himself inside.   Police entered the home and found Gonzalez hiding in a closet, he is charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child & faces court action shortly.

The Susquehanna River Basin Commission is urging New York’s U.S. senators and congressmen to keep the pressure up in order to secure federal funds to avert the March 1st  shut-down of 18 stream gauges and 16 rain gauges in the southern tier. the funding is $215,000 a year, Stream Gauges scheduled to be shut down are located at the Susquehanna River – Bainbridge. Binghamton, Oneonta, Vestal, Windsor & in the Chenango River at Greene, Norwich, Oxford, & Sherburne & in the Unadilla River at Rockdale.  Rain gauges would be turned off at Vestal, Bainbridge, Oxford, Sherburne, Morris & Oneonta locally.

4 fire companies responded yesterday afternoon to a trailer fire at 100 Hawk Road in the town of Windsor.  No one was home at the time the fire broke out, no injuries among firefighters were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
