West Windsor will hold their Santa Parade Saturday at 11:00 AM, line up starts at 9:30 at the West Windsor Fire Station, Santa & Mrs. Claus will arrive at the Community House at the end of the parade, where children can take pictures with and visit & hot cocoa will also be available.

State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Binghamton arrested 48 year old Stacie Congdon of Windsor for 3rd degree Grand Larceny. An investigation revealed that while volunteering for the Windsor Town Fair, Congdon made several unauthorized debit card purchases and cash withdrawals totaling over $10,000 between May and September 2023. Congdon was arrested and then turned over to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment. On September 29, Congdon was arrested for 2nd degree Grand Larceny, for allegedly stealing over $50,000 from the nonprofit, Punch Out Parkinson’s Inc.

P.M. NEWS Friday 11-10-23

Deposit Fire Department responded Wednesday morning at about 4:00 AM to a house fire in the Town of Sanford. A motorist stopped at a house along North Sanford Road and told a resident about the fire in the woods down the road. Arriving crews found a house and garage fully involved, which led to a brush fire. Investigators believe that the fire started long before it was reported, both the house & garage were destroyed. The fire is still under investigation. Deposit Fire fighters were assisted by the Harpursville, Windsor, West Windsor, Afton Fire Departments, Broome Ambulance, State Police, with Masonville Fire Department covering the Deposit district during the incident.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Dylan Shoemaker of Chenango Forks pleaded guilty to 2nd Degree Assault, in Broome County Court Friday. Shoemaker admitted that on February 6th, he assaulted a State trooper, when police responded to a residence on Perch Pond Road in Windsor following the report of a domestic dispute. 1 trooper was hit in the face and the same trooper was cut by glass as he wrestled Shoemaker to the ground, he was treated and released at a local hospital. Shoemaker has a lengthy criminal history, he will be sentenced to 12 years to life in New York State prison on January 12.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 43-year-old Dennis Ryder of Branford, Connecticut for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. On Friday afternoon, Deputies observed a vehicle speeding on State Highway 97 in the Village of Hancock, they conducted a traffic stop, a check of Ryder’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended. Ryder was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & Speeding, among other charges, Ryder will appear in the Village of Hancock Court at a later date to answer the charges.

2 people were hospitalized after a motorcycle & pickup truck accident on Atwell Hill Road in the Town of Windsor. Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded on Thursday at approximately 7:00 pm, 26 year old Cody Beavers of Windsor was operating his motorcycle at a high rate of speed and failed to keep right around a curve, he struck a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction. Beavers and his passenger, 23 year old Megan Monteforte of Hallstead, Pennsylvania were ejected from the motorcycle, both were wearing helmets but sustained serious injuries & were taken to UHS Wilson Medical Hospital & were later transferred to a Syracuse Hospital by Life Net. Beavers was found to have been driving an unregistered and uninsured motorcycle without a license and was issued multiple Uniform Traffic Tickets.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Nathan Smith of Windsor for Burglary, Assault, Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, and Endangerment the welfare of a child charges, Smith is accused of breaking into a house & attacking a victim in front of children, on August 2nd. Deputies took Smith into custody, he was found with a small amount of methamphetamine, Smith was arraigned at central arraignment and released. He is due to appear in the Town of Windsor Court at a later date.

Broome County Sheriff's Office reported that a mudslide occurred this morning in Windsor, partially blocking State Route 79 near Piper Hill Road, shortly after 5:00 AM today. The southbound lane was blocked for several hours as State DOT crews worked to clear the road.

Several Area Fire departments responded to a fire at 72 chapel street in Windsor at about 6:20 this morning. Fire Fighters from Windsor, Sanitaria Springs, Harpursville, West Colesville, Susquehanna Pennsylvania responded to the scene. WCDO will have more details as they become available.

Hancock Commencement exercises began this morning, other districts with ceremonies today include Afton, Andes, Charlotte Valley, Deposit, Downsville, Edmeston, GMU, Laurens, Milford, Morris, South Kortright, Schenevus, Unatego & Windsor. Saturday Graduation ceremonies will include Sidney, Bainbridge Guilford, Norwich, Oneonta, Delaware Academy, Greene, Harpursville, Oxford Academy, Unadilla Valley, Sherburne Earlville & Walton. 2 area district will hold their ceremonies on Sunday, they are Cooperstown & Worcester.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National enforcement effort is underway, it coincides with the Memorial Day holiday, & runs until June 4th, According to the Traffic Safety Administration, in 2021 there were 11,813 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in the United States, 57% of passenger vehicle occupants killed at night were not wearing their seat belts. Broome County Sheriff's Fred Akshar held a press conference this afternoon into the deaths of 2 people at Village Manor Apartments on Gary Street in Windsor. Sheriff Akshar said that this was a murder & suicide, the deceased have been identified 53 year old Kent Johnson of Windsor and his former girlfriend, 47 year old Tess Savage of Binghamton. Investigators have determined that Savage went to Johnson's apartment, even though she had an order of protection against him, she died of strangulation, a few hours later, Johnson killed himself with a gun.

Broome County District Attorney's Office reported that 28 year old John Flora of Windsor pleaded guilty to Burglary in Broome County Court Monday. In September of 2021, Flora broke into a residence on Beaver Lake Road and stole personal property of the owner, he faces 3 1/2 years in Jail when sentenced on June 30th.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Wednesday to a report of a missing 22-year-old woman in Windsor, after an argument with her boyfriend, Jestin Bonilla of Windsor. Early Thursday morning, the woman was located walking along a road, she had several injuries from a domestic dispute, Bonilla was taken into custody and charged with Reckless Endangerment, Strangulation, 3rd degree Assault & Criminal Mischief, he was transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.

Deposit Fire Department responded on Saturday to a fatal fire on Lumber Road in the town of Deposit. The fire started around 4 pm. and the house was deemed a total loss, the name of the victim has not been released pending family notification. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters from Afton, Hancock, Harpursville, Masonville, and West Windsor fire departments responded.

Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 46 year old Jamie Crowley of Windsor was sentenced to 7 years in prison with 5 years of post release supervision. Crowley was found guilty in Broome County Court by a Jury, for criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm & menacing following a an incident in Windsor in July of 2021, he was accused of pointing a weapon at a responding deputy, the deputy shot Crowley in the shoulder.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded early Thursday Morning to the Tuscarora Trailer Park on State Line Road in the Town of Windsor for a vehicle driving through the park firing a weapon out of the vehicle window. The suspect, 19 year old Jeremiah Baxter of Windsor, fled the area in his vehicle, he was quickly located & taken into custody without incident. The rifle used was also recovered. Baxter allegedly fired a single round into an occupied residence inside the park, breaking a window, no one was struck or sustained any injuries. Baxter was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office for processing and ultimately taken to Central Arraignment. He was charged with Reckless Endangerment.

Emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle accident on I-86 in Windsor Friday Night. 1 pickup truck caught fire, & the highway was closed for several hours for the investigation & clean up. State Police, Broome County Sheriff's deputies and the Windsor Fire Department responded. The investigation is ongoing.
