An Endicott man is facing a felony charge after allegedly stealing 27 iPhones from a FedEx facility while working for the company. Last Friday the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to a larceny complaint at FedEx Freight East, at Industrial Park Drive in the Town of Kirkwood. Security at the facility advised that someone had been stealing from iPhones since April by sneaking them out of the facility in his coat pocket. After reviewing footage, 22 year old Leon Roberts of Endicott was charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Roberts was arraigned at Central Arraignment Part and released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court.

In Delaware County: Republicans will vote for a candidate for County Treasurer between Ronda Williams & Carli Pinner; In the Town of Sidney 4 Republicans are running for 2 seats on the Town Board, between Richard DeCola, Frank Selleck, William Hunt & Andrew Hinkley. Republican primaries are being held for Town Supervisor in Colchester, Hancock, & Meredith, more information is available at the County Board of Elections page at co.delaware.ny.us. There are no Democratic Party primaries in Chenango or Delaware Counties & there are no primaries in Otsego County this year.


On Monday Morning, the Colchester Town Police Department, the Downsville Fire Department and Emergency Squad, responded to a reported motorcycle accident on State Highway 30 & Delaware County Highway 7. The operator of the motorcycle, a 42-year-old female, left the roadway and struck a ditch, she was ejected, sustained serious injuries and was transported by LifeNet of New York to Albany Medical Center for advanced medical care.


State Police today announced that Troopers issued 27,208 total traffic tickets during the special “Speed Week” traffic enforcement campaign, from June 9th to June 15th. Troopers issued 12,703 tickets for speeding and 1,184 total tickets for Move Over Law violations. Locally, Troop C issued over 2300 tickets, including over 1400 tickets for speeding and 184 for violating the "Move Over" Law.


Amphenol of Sidney is celebrating 100 years in operation in the village of Sidney, with an Open House on Saturday July 19th, with a host of activities & exhibits at the Delaware Avenue facility. Chenango County Office of Emergency Services announced that the Travel Advisory will remain in effect for the next few days, following flash flooding & damaged roads following Sunday's Storms. Motorists may encounter localized closures, washouts and debris in the roadways, crews are out working to make the repairs as soon as possible, Motorists should be watching for road signs while traveling through work zones where our DPW personnel may be working

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in 32 New York counties after severe thunderstorms resulted in 3 deaths and thousands of power outages across parts of the state, and due to the forecast of extreme heat expected to last through Wednesday. The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down early Sunday morning in Clark Mills, 3 people were killed from the Storms, The state of emergency exists in Broome, Chenango, Delaware & Otsego Counties locally.


Broome County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen rental car, where the victim stated that he had rented an SUV from Enterprise, but it had been stolen by his girlfriend, Christine Turner, who took the vehicle to Rochester and would not be returning the rental. On Friday, the missing SUV was located in Binghamton, patrols attempted a traffic stop, but Turner failed to comply, she eventually stopped & was forcibly removed from the vehicle, and her passenger, Christina Yacalis, were both placed into custody. Turner was charged with Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Governmental Administration & Multiple traffic violations, Yacalis was charged with Criminal Possession of Controlled Substances, both were arraigned and were released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Maine Court & City of Binghamton Court.


State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail in Chenango County Thursday. All of the businesses checked were in compliance and did not sell alcohol to an underaged operative. Businesses that complied included area Mirabito Quickway stores, Stewarts Shops, Speedways & privately owned liquor stores in Norwich, & Sherburne. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.


The State DEC announced several proposed regulation changes to streamline use and reporting of hunting tags and provide new deer hunting opportunities. First, DEC proposes a process for using electronic carcass tags for deer, bear, and turkey. Second, DEC proposes to provide a replacement regular season deer tag to youth hunters who successfully use that tag during the Youth Big Game Hunt weekend. Finally, DEC also proposes to enhance the Deer Management Assistance Program by extending the permit renewal cycle from 3 years to 5 years, More information is available at the the DEC website.

State lawmakers & law enforcement agencies are all looking into ways to deal with the growing heroin epidemic. Sidney Police Chief Mike Hood comments:

Chief Hood participated in the Sidney Rotary club's recent Heroin Awareness Night at the Sidney High School. Police Departments in Cooperstown & Oxford are participating in programs with an emphasis on helping heroin addicts get help to kick the habit.
State Senator Jim Seward will be in Otsego County, Tomorrow from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM at the Hunt Union at SUNY Oneonta, where he will host a roundtable discussion to solicit input from area stakeholders on the heroin epidemic. The roundtable forum is one of several being conducted around the state, Freshman Senator Fred Akshar will also participate, the public is welcome and encouraged to attend and observe the proceedings.
Governor Cuomo today announced a major enhancement to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles' facial recognition program to help combat identity theft and fraud. The Department's facial recognition software converts digital facial photographs into mathematical algorithms and presents trained staff with photo images that have been identified as having similar algorithms. Photos are run against more than 8,000 new photos taken each day at DMV offices statewide, as well as about 16 million photos already in DMV's database.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23-year-old William Effner of Hamden, on 4 counts of petty larceny and 4 counts of criminal possession of stolen property. Effner is accused of possessing a stolen credit card in the Town of Hamden and using the card for his own personal use on 4 separate occasions. Effner was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.
Norwich Fire Department Investigators reported that a smoldering piece of particle board between sidewalk concrete and a metal hatchway in front of McNeil’s Jewelers are to blame in this morning's South Broad Street smoke investigation. The cause of the smoke has not yet been determined; Firefighters were able to pinpoint the smoke source before flames occurred. All business are open, they were unaffected.
The Binghamton Mets announced that the annual "Welcome Back B-Mets" Dinner is Wednesday, April 6 at the Holiday Inn in downtown Binghamton. B-Mets players and mascots will arrive at 5:30 PM for the "Meet the Mets" autograph reception. Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM followed by a special baseball program with team and manager introductions. Tickets may be purchased by calling 723-METS or in person at NYSEG Stadium during normal business hours. The Binghamton Mets are set to open their 25th season on Thursday, April 7 at 6:35 PM at NYSEG Stadium against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.


State Police arrested 40-year-old Jason Rude of Unadilla, for 2 counts of 4th degree grand larceny, DWI, petty Larceny & 2 counts of attempted identity theft. The arrest occurred after troopers responded to a report of a man going through a parked vehicle outside a home in Unadilla. Rude is accused of stealing 2 wallets and other items from parked vehicles, He also tried to use one of the stolen bank cards to withdraw cash from an ATM but was not successful. Rude was arraigned in the Town of Unadilla court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond. His next court date in the Town of Unadilla is on March 1, 2016.
The State DOT announced that sign and traffic signal work would be performed today & tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the intersection of Chestnut and Main Street, City of Oneonta. Motorists are advised to be alert for workers who may be in the intersection. Flag personnel will guide motorists through the intersection when workers are in the roadway.
A Town of Guilford resident was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Criminal Mischief. 18-year-old Kayla Perry was charged following an investigation into a report of a Domestic Dispute, where Perry is accused of using a baseball bat to break the victim’s pickup truck window. Perry was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court & was remanded in lieu of $2,500 cash bail to reappear at a later date.
