On Monday, Deputies from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported 2 car motor vehicle accident on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton, responding emergency medical personnel pronounced 48-year-old Lawrence Foster of Walton, and 24-year-old Kaelyn Foster, also of Walton deceased at the scene. 44 year old Grace Bartolillo of Downsville suffered serious physical injuries and was transported by Life-net to Albany Medical Center. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Walton Police, State Police, and the New York State Department of Transportation among others, the investigation is continuing.


State Police announced that On November 9th, 18 year old Dariel Vasquez of Pomona, who was an employee of the State Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Department, was killed while battling a forest fire at Sterling Forest in Greenwood Lake. The State Police updated this story this afternoon, the investigation revealed that Vasquez was struck by a tree while battling the forest fire and succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

McCain said that the giveaway days on December 13th & 14th will again be held at the AO Fox Hospital Tri-Town Campus on Pearl Street in Sidney.


Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that funding is available to help low- and middle-income households and older adults lower their energy costs and keep their homes warm during cold winter months. Applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program, or HEAP, which can provide up to $996 to eligible households, are currently open to New Yorkers. About 66,000 received benefits in the Southern tier last year, more information is available at otda.ny.gov.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued through 6:00PM tonight, with the smoke from the Catskills wildfires spreading north to the Capital region and west into Delaware & Schoharie Counties & contiguous Counties. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. New York State has implemented a statewide burn ban in effect until November 30 due to increased fire risk.


State Senator Peter Oberacker and local officials will deliver remarks at the grand re-opening of the Oneonta DMV, at 242 Main Street in Oneonta, the event begins at 8:45.


NYSEG is reporting about 250 Chenango County Customers are without power this morning, mostly in Smyrna & Otselic, they are working to restore power as soon as possible.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced that the South Abington Police Department in Pennsylvania located & arrested Donald Shurock, who is being held in the Lackawanna County Jail pending his extradition back to New York. Shurock was wanted since last week, he had been located in a vehicle by a deputy, resisted arrested and fled the scene on foot, the Deputy was treated & released for injuries sustained in trying to arrest Shurock. Shurock is wanted on the initial warrant plus Assault of a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.


Hartwick College introduced the Baking Innovation Lab Tuesday during a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new site on Dietz Street in Oneonta. Hartwick President James Mullen commented about the new facility:

The Baking Innovation Lab is part of a Dietz Street development, which includes 64 units of affordable housing. The project received $1,470,000 in funding from the City’s $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative award.


The Otsego County Board of Elections announced that Early Voting for the November 5 General Election will begin October 26 through November 3 at the Foothills Performing Arts Center, on Market Street in Oneonta & at The Meadows Office Complex, at 140 County Highway 33W in Cooperstown. Polls will be open from 9 am. to 5 pm. on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Polls will be open from 12 to 8 pm. on Tuesday and Thursday. The Delaware County Board of Supervisors will have an official ribbon cutting ceremony at the new DPW Administration Building at 2 Bridge Street in Delhi at 12:00 PM Today. The new office building houses the DPW administrative staff along with the Planning and Watershed Affairs offices. Remaining on Page Avenue in Delhi is the DPW material storage yard, the fueling station, the bridge fabrication shop and the salt shed. The new patrol building in Bloomville will allow for greater access to roads in the northern part of the county for maintenance and snow removal. The new mechanics facility in the Town of Walton will be for car and heavy equipment repair.


The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Benjamin Bishop of Otselic for reckless endangerment, two counts of unlawful fleeing, and one count of resisting arrest. The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a road rage incident after a caller reported that Bishop's Van ran a vehicle off the road in Sherburne, additional calls described Bishop cutting off and tailgating other vehicles, he was located in Norwich, deputies attempted a traffic stop, he failed to comply, struck multiple vehicles and his vehicle became disabled, he fled on foot but was taken into custody after a taser was deployed. Bishop was also charged with numerous traffic citations & faces court action at a later date.


A recall of hundreds of frozen waffles and other toaster foods has been expanded, by TreeHouse Foods for possible listeria contamination. The company has recalled frozen waffles, Belgian waffles and pancakes sold in stores such as Dollar General, Target and Walmart. Consumers should throw away the products or return them to stores for a refund.


The State DMV warns customers to be cautious of car sales on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and similar sites. The advisory comes after a rise in stolen vehicles, including cars with altered ID numbers and forged titles. Investigations revealed that, as of October 15th there were 228 stolen vehicles worth $6.35 million recovered by the DMV, with 149 purchased by victims from these online platforms.

NYSEG reports that more power has been restored in the 4 local counties this afternoon, the number of customers without power is about 1300, the heavy wet snow has brought down tree limbs & power lines, Crews are continuing to work to get power restored as soon as possible.


Area Fire departments & Emergency Squads will be hosting "Open Houses" this month, many on Saturday April 13th to coincide with the state's "Recruit New York" campaign, with some holding their events at other times, Bainbridge Emergency Squad member Roger Barnhart visited WCDO this morning & commented on local recruitment efforts:

The State Senate has approved the confirmation of Steven James as the new State Police Superintendent. James has more than 32 years in Law Enforcement, he becomes the 18th Superintendent in State Police history.


Governor Hochul announced a four-year project to revamp the technology at the State Department of Motor Vehicles. The state is contracting a with a new software company to upgrade the agency’s aging technology systems, which was found to be lacking as they re-opened following the COVID 19 pandemic. Fast Enterprises will be tasked with upgrading the DMV systems in 2 phases over the next 4 years, Fast Enterprises software is being used in 15 other states.


Commerce Chenango announced that the next Business After Hours event will be held at the UHS Chenango Memorial Women's Health Center at 32 Conkey Avenue on Wednesday April 17th. The event will run from 4:30 to 6:00 PM, RSVP's are requested by April 11th at 334-1400.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant Tuesday at 373 Prospect Street in the Town of Dickinson. Police arrested 39 year old Andrew Fuller of Binghamton for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & criminally using drug Paraphernalia and 45 year old Betty Hobbs of Binghamton for multiple Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Officers seized Methamphetamine, Suboxone, Oxycodone & other narcotics, ecstasy, cocaine scales & packaging materials, Fuller and Hobbs were transported to the Broome County Correctional facility for processing and arraignment.


Governor Hochul today announced a plan to remove barriers for perspective school bus drivers applying for a commercial driver license. The DMV has implemented a federal waiver that allows school bus driver applicants to skip the engine compartment component of the commercial driver license road test, at a time when school bus drivers are desperately needed. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30 year old Mark Lamphear of New Berlin for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol and DWI. Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Norwich for a speeding violation. they found Lamphear to be in possession of methamphetamine, Hydrocodone, gun parts that pieced together a non-compliant AR-15 and a 30-round magazine, packaging material and had a large sum of cash. Lamphear was processed and released on an appearance ticket and is to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date, Additional Weapons Charges are Pending**


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Rashon Spear of Oneonta, for Criminal Mischief, Criminal Tampering, Criminal Nuisance & Harassment. Investigation revealed that while incarcerated at the correctional facility, Spear caused damage to a television set in his cell & used his bodily fluids to create a hazardous risk to corrections officers, hew as arraigned & was returned to the correctional facility with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.
