The DCMO BOCES Board of Education reviewed a proposed capital building project plan at a recent meeting on a plan for renovation of the Robert W. Harrold Campus, the Alan Pole Campus in Norwich and the purchase of the former Masonville Elementary School to house programs for students. BOCES District Superintendent Michael Rullo told WCDO News of the main reasons for the projects:

Both the renovations and the purchase of the Masonville School site are subject to voter approval on February 3rd of next year, the BOCES buildings over more than 50 years old, with the most recent renovations approved in 2005. The projects would start in March of 2027 and conclude in 2028.

The City of Oneonta is accepting applications for a firefighter civil service exam to be held on January 10, 2026. The application deadline is December 10, Applications can be submitted in person or by mail to the Oneonta Civil Service Commission at City Hall at 258 Main Street and the starting salary for 2026 hires is $52,000. State Police responded to I-88 in Afton for a crash involving a Department of Transportation vehicle and a pick-up truck. Troopers learned that a crew of 7 DOT workers were completing pothole repairs along the east bound lanes of I-88, an attenuator truck in the right lane warned drivers that there was roadwork ahead and that the right lane was closed, while a second attenuator truck was in the vicinity of the crew members. A Pick-up truck pulling an enclosed trailer with picnic tables crashed into rear of the second attenuator truck, The DOT worker that was operating the attenuator and the 20-year-old operator of the pick-up truck were both transported to Wilson Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Both eastbound lanes were closed during the removal of the vehicles. Troopers were assisted by Afton Fire, Bainbridge Fire, Sidney Ambulance.
State Police responded to South Hall of the SUNY Morrisville Campus Monday afternoon at 3:45 pm, they found a 20-year-old male, who was not a student, with a gunshot wound to the neck. The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, No other injuries were reported and a suspect has not been located, the investigation is continuing. Normal class schedules resumed this morning.
54 year old Donald Lane of Oneonta, was arrested Sunday for Sex Offender Failure to Update Change of Address following an investigation in to a sex offender failing to abide by restrictions by the State Sex Offender Registry. Lane is a level 2 sex offender, he failed to make the proper notifications regarding an address change, he also had a prior conviction of the failing to update the Sex Offender Registry, he was located in the City of Oneonta by deputies and taken in to custody following a brief foot pursuit, he was lodged him in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to Arraignment.

The New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, 3rd Judicial Department, has ordered a hearing on Gordon Mower Jr.'s motion to vacate his murder conviction, claiming that he received ineffective counsel when he was found guilty of killing his parents in 1996. The court found sufficient grounds to warrant a hearing on Mower's claims, the decision reverses a previous denial by the Otsego County Court. Mower was convicted of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life without parole.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Michael Fletcher & 36 year old Michelle Bremner, both of Westford, for numerous counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, plus Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia & False Personation following an investigation originating from a request for a welfare check on 3 children at a residence in the Town of Westford. Deputies located the defendants inside the residence, they provided false information in an attempt to hide their true identities as they were wanted on multiple active warrants, multiple items of drug paraphernalia were in plain view, and the Otsego County Child Protective Services were contacted for the children. Fletcher & Bremner were processed, arraigned & were remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await further court proceedings. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.
40 year old Jorge Cortina of Binghamton was sentenced to 8 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 3 to 6 years in State Prison for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and 364 days in the Broome County Jail for Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, with the sentences to run concurrently. Cortina was stopped in September 2024 in a motor vehicle in Binghamton by members of the Broome County Sheriffs Strategic Response Group, he was found to possess methamphetamine, a pistol, and a digital scale to weigh narcotics, he was found guilty of the charges in July in Broome County Court.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an address in Walton to execute a bench warrant issued for 47 year old Luke Lupo, for his failure to appear in Court, 3 individuals were present, Lupo, 43-year-old John Whiteside Jr, and 45-year-old Melissa Knorr. Whiteside had active charges with Colchester Police for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Deputies observed drug paraphernalia, they applied for & received a search warrant, they uncovered Methamphetamine. Lupo, Whiteside, and Knorr were arrested, and were charged with 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Lupo was transported to the Delaware County Jail and held pending his arraignment, Whiteside was turned over to Colchester Police, he was held pending arraignment, Knorr was released on an appearance ticket.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bryce Bauder of Norwich, following an investigation into a domestic dispute that occurred on October 19, in Norwich. Bauder was involved in a domestic dispute with a victim who had an active full stay-away order of protection against him. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Norwich Police Department located Bauder at his residence, where he was taken into custody without incident and was charged with 2 Counts of Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Family Offense, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment & Burglary, he was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $30,000 cash bail.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 Sherburne residents on multiple drug-related charges Friday in Sherburne. Deputies observed Jessica Baum, who was known to have an active warrant inside a vehicle, with Jason Wheeler, a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine, packaging materials, and digital scales. Baum and Wheeler were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia & Conspiracy, they were arraigned, Baum was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Sherburne Village Court at a later date. Wheeler was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail and is also scheduled to appear in Sherburne Village Court at a later date.
State Police, State Senator Oberacker and Assemblyman Angelino will honor the memory of Trooper Jill Mattice, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, at 10:30 AM at State Police Oneonta barracks on Oneida Street, Oneonta. State Police will announce the dedication of a portion of State Route 23 as the “Trooper Jill Mattice Highway.” Following a brief ceremony, they will proceed to the memorial site in the Town of Morris for the unveiling of the new highway sign. Trooper Mattice lost her life on January 20, 2010, when her patrol vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 23 in the Town of Morris.

In Chenango County, Ronald Sherman & Joel Lawrence won the Republican Party Nomination for Afton Town Board.

State Police responded to a 2-vehicle crash on State Route 11 in the town of Kirkwood. Investigators reported that Denise Ellis of Binghamton, was making a left turn when she failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle traveling north on State Route 11, the 2nd vehcile driven by 73 year old Nora Gibson of Pennsylvania, rolled as a result of the collision. Ellis was transported to Wilson Medical Center, her passenger was not injured, Gibson and a 74-year-old occupant were both transported to Wilson Medical Center. Ellis was ticketed, all injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1 Car Motor Vehicle Accident on County Highway 21 in the Town of Walton, they identified the driver as 75-year-old Erol Tural of Walton, Deputies charged Tural with, DWI and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, Moving from a Lane Unsafely, Speed not Reasonable & other charges, Tural was released on appearance tickets and traffic summonses and was directed to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 32 year old Jason Hubbell of Cooperstown, for 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest. Troopers were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute in Roseboom, Hubbell allegedly kicked in the front door of a residence, broke a secondary door then drove his vehicle into the victim’s vehicle before leaving the area. Troopers were able to locate Hubbell in Middlefield where he resisted arrest. Hubbell was ultimately taken into custody and later transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

State Police arrested 29 year old Daniel Nelson of Bloomville for 2nd degree Assault, after Troopers responded to a residence in Cooperstown for a report of a domestic dispute on June 22. Troopers later learned that the other person was checked out at a local hospital and was treated for broken bones stemming from injuries sustained during the argument, Nelson was arrested and later transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
Commerce Chenango announced that they will hold an Open House at their new location at 19 East Main Street in Norwich, Today from 4:30 to 6:30 PM, those in attendance will get to see the plans for the Early Learning Center that will be located on the 1st floor of that building.
A.O. Fox Hospital will be conducting a routine water flow test of its fire sprinkler system today at approximately 6 pm. The test will last 1 to 2 Hours. Residents in the immediate area may notice a temporary drop in water pressure or a slight discoloration of water during and directly following the testing period. An Endicott man is facing a felony charge after allegedly stealing 27 iPhones from a FedEx facility while working for the company. Last Friday the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to a larceny complaint at FedEx Freight East, at Industrial Park Drive in the Town of Kirkwood. Security at the facility advised that someone had been stealing from iPhones since April by sneaking them out of the facility in his coat pocket. After reviewing footage, 22 year old Leon Roberts of Endicott was charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Roberts was arraigned at Central Arraignment Part and released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court.

On Monday Morning, the Colchester Town Police Department, the Downsville Fire Department and Emergency Squad, responded to a reported motorcycle accident on State Highway 30 & Delaware County Highway 7. The operator of the motorcycle, a 42-year-old female, left the roadway and struck a ditch, she was ejected, sustained serious injuries and was transported by LifeNet of New York to Albany Medical Center for advanced medical care.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen rental car, where the victim stated that he had rented an SUV from Enterprise, but it had been stolen by his girlfriend, Christine Turner, who took the vehicle to Rochester and would not be returning the rental. On Friday, the missing SUV was located in Binghamton, patrols attempted a traffic stop, but Turner failed to comply, she eventually stopped & was forcibly removed from the vehicle, and her passenger, Christina Yacalis, were both placed into custody. Turner was charged with Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Governmental Administration & Multiple traffic violations, Yacalis was charged with Criminal Possession of Controlled Substances, both were arraigned and were released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Maine Court & City of Binghamton Court.
State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail in Chenango County Thursday. All of the businesses checked were in compliance and did not sell alcohol to an underaged operative. Businesses that complied included area Mirabito Quickway stores, Stewarts Shops, Speedways & privately owned liquor stores in Norwich, & Sherburne. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.
The State DEC announced several proposed regulation changes to streamline use and reporting of hunting tags and provide new deer hunting opportunities. First, DEC proposes a process for using electronic carcass tags for deer, bear, and turkey. Second, DEC proposes to provide a replacement regular season deer tag to youth hunters who successfully use that tag during the Youth Big Game Hunt weekend. State Police arrested 31 year old Pierce Tobin of Oneonta for 2nd degree Assault following a violent incident at the Homer Folks Facility. On May 9th, Troopers, SUNY University Police, and the Oneonta Town Constable responded to a report of an assault, An investigation revealed that Tobin became aggressive after being informed by a staff member that he was not permitted to smoke. Tobin punched the staff member in the face and bit off a portion of the victim’s ear. The victim was treated at A.O. Fox Hospital. Tobin was taken into custody at the scene and was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $5,000 cash/credit or $10,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, The investigation remains ongoing.

Binghamton Police responded to the Salvation Army at 131 Washington Street yesterday afternoon, Officers found a 57-year-old male suffering from stab wounds, the man was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead. 37-year-old Michael Brutvan allegedly entered the building and stabbed the victim several times & fled the scene, but was located & arrested. Brutvan has been charged with 2nd-degree murder, the investigation is continuing.
Binghamton Fire Department responded Monday night to a house fire at 72 Thorp Street, which caused damage to an adjacent house. The structure was deemed a total loss, the cause of the fire was a lithium-ion battery failure, no injuries were reported.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that Applications are being accepted through April 1st for their annual summer camp for children from ages 9 through 12, for the weeks of June 29-July 5 and August 3-9. Children from economically challenged families and those who can benefit from positive interaction with deputy sheriffs should apply, Camp occurs at Keuka Lake in Penn Yan. Stafford was turned over to Delaware County & was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending arraignment.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Scott Strain of Morris, for Dissemination of Indecent Material to Minors, Promoting a Sexual Performance of a Child and 3rd degree rape, following an investigation into a sex abuse complaint received from the New York State Child Abuse Hotline. Investigation revealed that Strain allegedly entered into a sexual relationship with a minor and did request and receive indecent material from the minor. A Search Warrant was executed Friday & Strain was taken in to custody. Strain was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Arraignment. An order of protection was requested on behalf of the victim. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.

42 year old Dennis Fickeria of Margaretville pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance this week in Delaware County Court. In January, members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Fickeria’s residence in the town of Middletown, they seized controlled substances and firearms, he was indicted for 38 counts related to illegal gun possession and drug sales, he admitted in court that he possessed Fentanyl with the intention of selling it, he faces 4.5 years in state prison, to be followed by 1 year of post release supervision, when sentenced on December 16th.

The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Membership Meeting & Awards Ceremony on November 14th. Several County businesses will receive awards at the event, which will be held at the Foothills Performing Arts Center Atrium on Market Street in Oneonta.
Local government sales tax collections totaled $5.98 billion in the 3rd quarter of 2024, an increase of 1.4%, or $82.7 million, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. 8 of the 10 regions in the state, saw collections rise. Aggregate growth in third quarter collections for the counties and cities outside of New York City was 1.5%, year over year, it was the largest increase so far this year.

Several Area Fire Departments responded to a Chimney Fire at 9 Ceperley Avenue in Oneonta early this morning. The Fire was reported shortly before 4:30 AM this morning, with fire on the 1st & 2nd floor, coming through the roof, mutual aid was received by the Oneonta Fire Department from West Oneonta, Worcester, Sidney, Franklin, Milford, Laurens & Otego, at about 5:30 AM, the Fire knocked down, the investigation into the cause of the fire in ongoing.

Manon was accused of stealing over $3,000 in cash from a home he was doing work in on February 1, 2024, in the Town of Middletown, if Manon violates the terms of his probation, he faces one and a third to four years in State Prison.

Otsego County Officials announced that they have a State of Emergency due to current drought conditions adversely affecting the water supply in the county, which increases the risk of wildfires. Otsego County residents are prohibited from burning any combustible materials outside, and they are prohibited in engaging in any activities that could allow for flames or sparks that could result in a wildfire. The Emergency order is in effect until November 2nd.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Kyle Packer of Edmeston following an investigation of a violation of a Court Order of Protection. Packer was charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree Burglary plus 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, where Packer is accused of entering the premises and violating a stay away order of protection, he was also found to have left 2 voicemails for the protected party, he was being held at the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced that the South Abington Police Department in Pennsylvania located & arrested Donald Shurock, who is being held in the Lackawanna County Jail pending his extradition back to New York. Shurock was wanted since last week, he had been located in a vehicle by a deputy, resisted arrested and fled the scene on foot, the Deputy was treated & released for injuries sustained in trying to arrest Shurock. Shurock is wanted on the initial warrant plus Assault of a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.

The Otsego County Board of Elections announced that Early Voting for the November 5 General Election will begin October 26 through November 3 at the Foothills Performing Arts Center, on Market Street in Oneonta & at The Meadows Office Complex, at 140 County Highway 33W in Cooperstown. Polls will be open from 9 am. to 5 pm. on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Polls will be open from 12 to 8 pm. on Tuesday and Thursday. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Benjamin Bishop of Otselic for reckless endangerment, two counts of unlawful fleeing, and one count of resisting arrest. The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a road rage incident after a caller reported that Bishop's Van ran a vehicle off the road in Sherburne, additional calls described Bishop cutting off and tailgating other vehicles, he was located in Norwich, deputies attempted a traffic stop, he failed to comply, struck multiple vehicles and his vehicle became disabled, he fled on foot but was taken into custody after a taser was deployed. Bishop was also charged with numerous traffic citations & faces court action at a later date.
A recall of hundreds of frozen waffles and other toaster foods has been expanded, by TreeHouse Foods for possible listeria contamination. The company has recalled frozen waffles, Belgian waffles and pancakes sold in stores such as Dollar General, Target and Walmart. Consumers should throw away the products or return them to stores for a refund.
The State DMV warns customers to be cautious of car sales on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and similar sites. The advisory comes after a rise in stolen vehicles, including cars with altered ID numbers and forged titles. Investigations revealed that, as of October 15th there were 228 stolen vehicles worth $6.35 million recovered by the DMV, with 149 purchased by victims from these online platforms.

2 new laws went into effect in New York State over the weekend, that will impact how healthcare providers obtain consent to payment and collect payments from patients. Healthcare providers Must collect consent for payment separate from consent to receive healthcare services; & they are prohibited from requiring credit card pre-authorization or requiring a patient’s credit card be kept on file prior to the delivery of emergency or medically necessary services, & they Must notify patients of the risks of using credit cards to pay for healthcare services.
US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced over $27 Million Dollars in federal funding for the Delaware County Electric Cooperative, which provides electricity to over 5,000 families, farms, and local businesses in Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie Counties. The Delaware County Cooperative will lead a partnership composed of 6 small electric cooperatives across 3 states to increase grid resilience against outages caused by weather events and tree damage caused by invasive species. The Cooperative will deploy advanced software to enable proactive grid management, as well as hardware such as grid sensors and drones to provide real-time data and monitoring capabilities.
The Delaware County Board of Elections announced that the ballot drop box previously outside the Board of Elections Office at 97 Main Street in Delhi, has been removed. Officials stated that It was taken down by maintenance in response to a directive from the chair of the Board of Supervisors, Tina Mole, citing security issues and a contentious election. Anyone who received an absentee or early vote by mail ballot who prefers not to return it by mail can deliver it to the Board of Elections office during normal business hours, from 8:30AM to 4:00 PM, and during some extended hours during early voting being held at our Delhi Office, October 28 through November 3. Absentee/early mail ballots can also be delivered to any poll site on Election Day, November 5th.

Worden was charged with Attempted Promoting Prison Contraband when he failed to take his prescribed medication properly and attempted to remove the medication from the medication room but was caught by a Correctional Officer, he was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

State Police were dispatched Thursday night to a report of gunshots at Lantern Hill Mobile Home Park in Oneonta. An investigation revealed that a 40-year-old male of Oneonta, NY sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after a dispute involving several individuals, he was taken to A.O. Fox Hospital by a private vehicle and was later transported to Bassett Hospital for further care. The vehicle carrying the victim was hit by gunfire during the incident. 34 year old Ishmael Seabrook of Oneonta was charged with 2 counts of Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Reckless Endangerment, State Police were assisted by the Oneonta City Police Department, Seabrook was arraigned at the Otsego County Jail and was remanded without bail.

During the game administration was notified that a student was overheard saying he had a gun at the game, law enforcement was notified, the student was located and was taken away from the game & Staff remained with the student until law enforcement arrived and took over the situation. Ryan stated that there was no fight at the game and there was no gun, there was no need to suspend or cancel the game or send everyone home. Law enforcement continued to meet with the student and his family, they left the premises and law enforcement officers remained at the game until the conclusion.

Broome County Sheriff Road Patrol deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident involving 2 vehicles Early Sunday morning on Morgan Road in the Town of Binghamton. Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar identified the deceased as 29 year old Charles Burrell of Conklin, who was ejected from 1 of the vehicles, he said that the operators of the 2 vehicles were engaged in a continuing dispute over women & narcotics, they engaged in a road rage incident that ended with the fatality. 20 year old Cody Diffendorf of Kirkwood & 26 year old James MacDowall of Binghamton were each charged with 2nd degree manslaughter, both are in the custody of the Broome County Correctional facility pending future court action.

State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for May 2024. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 4.2% in May 2024. Locally Chenango County had 3.2% unemployment, Delaware County 3.9% & Otsego County 3.7%.

The investigation determined that an 11-year-old male from Marathon, was fishing with friends and decided to jump in the water to swim when he went under the water and didn't resurface due to the strong current. At 7:15 pm., the victim was located deceased in approximately eight feet-deep water by the Broome County Dive Team. There were no signs of foul play, and the scene was consistent with an accidental drowning.

The National Weather Service has rated a Saturday tornado in West Winfield as an EF-1, with winds in excess of 100 MPH. Investigators determined that the tornado began near the intersection of Meeting House Road and Marriot Road and moved east southeast ending east of New York State Route 51." The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office has released more information regarding a fatal accident on Sunday, at about 1:00 AM. Patrols responded to Bailey Hollow Road in Newark Valley after reports of a crash, where the vehicle left the road and struck a tree. The driver of the car was an unidentified 17-year-old, the driver & 3 passengers were taken to Wilson Hospital, 18 year old Connor VanZile of Newark Valley, succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident.

State law limits solitary confinement in most cases to three consecutive days, or six days in any given 30-day period.

The Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta announced that the Paula Cole Concert scheduled for this Friday Night has been canceled. Foothills Director Geoff Doyle told WCDO News said that the concert was canceled due to circumstances beyond their control and they are working to reschedule the show at a later date. The US Department of Veteran’s Affairs announced that all Veterans who were exposed to toxins and other hazards while serving in the military are eligible to enroll directly in VA health care through the recently signed PACT Act. NYSEG is reporting additional success in getting power back on following yesterday's high winds knocking down tree limbs & power lines, area counties are back on, crews have shifted efforts to Sullivan County where about 1200 were without power this afternoon.

The Food & Drug Administration announced that some types of ground cinnamon products sold at discount stores are being recalled because of elevated levels of lead. The Cinnamon in questions locally was available at stores like Dollar Tree and Family Dollar, under the Supreme Tradition name, sold by Greenbriar International, of Chesapeake, Virginia, the cinnamon can be returned to the stores for a refund, or should be disposed of, the cinnamon with lead has been pulled from the shelves at the stores in question.

Norwich Police Department concluded an investigation into the Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the City of Norwich, they arrested 29 year old Austin Hutchins of Norwich for Criminal Possession of a Narcotic with Intent to Sell & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On February 9th, Norwich Police Officers and Detectives took Hutchins into custody for an active Bench Warrant out of Oneida County, during this arrest, Norwich Officers located 7 bricks of heroin mixed with fentanyl, quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine, over one thousand dollars in cash, and drug paraphernalia. Hutchins was released on an Appearance ticket to appear at Norwich Court at a later date, and was turned back over to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office on his warrant.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Margaret Will of Windsor on an outstanding warrant and charged with Bail Jumping after failing to appear in court multiple times to answer for separate petty larceny charges in the Town of Windsor, she faces court action shortly.

Slater was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Trespass, & 1 count of Harassment of a Regulated Tenant, he is accused of intentionally entering his tenant's residence on multiple occasions without proper notice, Slater was processed and was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Joshua Hunt of Unadilla for failing to abide by the State Sex Offender Registry. Hunt was charged with Failure to Notify a Change of Address & Failure to Update Registry Photograph, as required by sex offenders. Hunt relocated from his residence in the Town of Unadilla and did not notify authorities or give an updated photo within the required time frame. An arrest warrant was issued & Hunt was located by State Police and turned over to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, he was arraigned and was released on his own recognizance.

Upon arrival, responding deputies found that the two men had been separated, 59 year old Daniel Ackley of Johnson City had been following a truck that he suspected was tailgating his wife earlier, as the other driver was placing an order at the drive-thru, Ackley pulled up beside and began yelling at the driver and threatened him with a hatchet, threatening decapitation, the other driver pulled to the front parking lot and exited his vehicle holding a hammer, Ackley struck the victim in the leg with his vehicle. The victim was then able to retreat inside while Ackley remained in the parking lot. Ackley was arrested without incident and charged with Menacing & Reckless Endangerment, he was processed and released on an appearance ticket to answer for his charges at the Town of Dickinson Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Jennifer Williams for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, following a disabled vehicle investigation. On February 20th, 2023, Deputies observed a vehicle with its hazards flashing On State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock. During the course of investigation drugs and drug paraphernalia were recovered. On August 10th, 2023, a Sealed Indictment Warrant was issued for Williams arrest for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, last week Fallsburg Police Department located Williams and took her into custody, she was returned to Delaware County where she was held in the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Jason Ransford of South Kortright for Criminal Mischief. Sheriff’s Deputies received a vandalism complaint on October 31st, Ransford is accused of recklessly operated an off-road forklift causing damage to the property of another. Ransford was released on an appearance ticket and directed to appear at the Town of Stamford court to answer the charge.
The Otsego County Solid Waste Department, Otsego County Conservation Association, and Casella announced that the Film Plastic Recycling Challenge is back, where area schools recycle plastic bags and other plastic film items which cannot be recycled through regular recycling programs. The challenge focuses on collecting clean, dry, plastic film to help keep it out of the landfill. The challenge November 15th until April 24th, Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2024.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Jentre Bergman of McGraw for Robbery. On September 23rd, Bergman allegedly went to a residence in the Town of German, where he forcefully stole a Harley-Davidson motorcycle by pointing a shotgun at the victim & fled the scene on the motorcycle. An arrest warrant was then issued for Bergman, who was arrested by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and held in their facility on un-related charges. Bergman was then transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office where he was processed for charges of Robbery, Grand Larceny, and Menacing, he was arraigned in the Town of German Court where bail was set at $5,000. Bergman was then transported back to the Cortland County Correctional Facility where he is being held.

State Police arrested 39 year old Antoine Laporte of Buffalo for Criminal Possession of a Weapon after a Trooper observed a vehicle traveling at an excessive speed, The Trooper attempted to catch up to the vehicle but lost sight of the car, the trooper ended up finding the vehicle rolled over at the bottom of the East Branch exit ramp. Laporte walking on Harvard Road, he fled but was eventually detained, Laporte had multiple warrants for Assault and Larceny in Erie County and in the state of New Jersey, troopers also located a weapon in the wrecked vehicle. Laporte was transported to Wilson Hospital for a medical evaluation, he was released & was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $5.5 billion in the first quarter of 2023, an increase of 7.1%, compared to the same period last year, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. DiNapoli’s report found that sales tax collections increased by 9.2% in January and 14.1% in February, but the growth slowed to 0.3% in March. Collections for the counties and cities outside New York City grew by 3.3%, in the first quarter, with 50 out of 57 counties experienced sales tax increases during the quarter.

The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that 48 year old Howard Knapp of Endicott will spend 50 years in prison after he was found guilty in January. Knapp was sentenced to 2 consecutive 25 to life sentences on 2 counts of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, the victims were under the age of 13 at the time the incidents occurred, in 2014 and 2015.

Governor Kathy Hochul joined Acting Superintendent Steven Nigrelli in honoring 218 new New York State Troopers as they graduated today from the 211th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. The ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. Today's graduation increases the State Police ranks to 4,742 sworn members. 29 of the new Troopers will report to Troop C in Sidney.
Delaware County Deputies were dispatched On April 29th to a report of a burglary at Herman’s Trailer Sales in the Town of Walton, followed by additional reports of larceny and burglary from the same location, The Investigation revealed that rare antiques and jewelry stolen from the Herman's property were sold for cash at a pawn Shop in Utica. Items were recovered from Utica, Sidney Walton, Unadilla & South New Berlin, Deputies arrested 39-year old Francis Lupo of Walton & 44-year-old Luke Lupo, of South New Berlin Petty Larceny, criminal mischief & Burglary Charges, and 33-year-old Mistyblue Decker of Hancock for criminal mischief and petty larceny. All 3 were released & will appear in Walton Court at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Wayne Brostek of Schenevus following a traffic stop in the Town of Milford on October 5th. Brostek was charged with Operate out of interlock restriction, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Operating Without Insurance among several other similar charges, Brostek was issued uniform traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Milford Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 23 year old Anna Genao of Franklin for Aggravated Unlicensed Operator charges as well as other violations following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident involving property damage and personal injury in Davenport on October 13th. Genao & other occupants were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, after an investigation, Deputies arrested Genao, she was processed and released, & will appear in Town of Davenport Court at a later date.
The Board of Directors of Commerce Chenango announced the selection of Sal Testani as the organization’s new president and chief executive officer. Testani is a Norwich native , he has more than 16 years of experience as a senior leader with both MeadWestvaco and ACCO Brands in Sidney, & he will assume his new role on November 1. Testani will appear at today's Commerce Chenango Open House at their South Broad Street Norwich office.
The Delaware County Board of Elections reminds county residents that the GENERAL ELECTION is Tuesday November 8, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Sidney Village Officials announced that due to a water main repair, the village is shutting of water in the downtown area through 6:00 PM. The Main Street Bridge is closed for repairs, Chambers & O'Hara announced that their Main Street entrance is closed, but patrons can enter the lot from the driveway on Bridge Street about 200 yards from the Traffic Light.

32 year old Anthony Schorer of Burlington was sentenced to 10 years probation in Otsego County Court. Schorer pleaded guilty to a 2nd degree criminal sexual act against a child, State Police originally arrested Schorer on January 4th and his brother, 33 year old Timothy Schorer of Hartwick on January 11th, he is due in court on June 24th. The alleged crimes happened between 2003 and 2010, the victim was between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.

Broome County Transit premiered their new fully electric buses that the county will be transitioning to in the coming months. The Busses are manufactured by Nova Bus of Plattsburgh, Broome County will be the only county in the state to transition to an all-electric public transit system.

Development Chenango Corporation announced the next phase of the ‘Hotel Norwich’ initiative. Last year, Development Chenango purchased 14 to 16 South Broad Street, Norwich, for the purpose of developing a boutique hotel. Gendron has been in custody since the May 14th shooting at a Buffalo TOPS Supermarket, the 25-count indictment also contains charges of murder and attempted murder as a hate crime and weapons possession.

State Police responded to a report of a head-on collision involving an SUV and a Trailways bus on State Highway 23 in the town of Davenport. The only occupant of the SUV, a 65-year-old woman of Stamford, was pronounced deceased on scene. Her name is being withheld pending notifications to family. 5 people were on the bus, the driver is a 44-year-old woman of Astoria, and passenger who is a 59-year-old female of Hartwick were transported to Bassett Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 3 other passengers were not injured, The investigation is on-going.
A law introduced after the murder of Utica teen Bianca Devins has passed in the State Senate and Assembly. Bianca’s Law would create criminal and civil penalties for disseminating personal images of crime victims. In 2019, Bianca Devins was murdered by Brandon Clark in Utica, he posted photos of her body on social media, which were spread on various platforms and sent directly to members of her family. The law is headed to Governor Hochul’s desk for approval..

State Police will participate in a national crackdown on distracted driving as part of April’s National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The enforcement effort, called Operation Hang Up, will include increased patrols and checkpoints targeting drivers using electronic devices while behind the wheel. This year’s enforcement detail will run from Monday, April 4, through Monday, April 11.
Norwich Police Department conducted a traffic stop on State Street Sunday, that resulted in the arrest of2 Norwich men on Drug Charges. Arrested were 30 year old Brett Adams of Norwich & 22 year old Brendan Smith of Norwich for criminal possession of a controlled substance, Adams and Smith were arraigned at Norwich City Court. Brett Adams was held on $1,000 cash bail, and Brendan Smith was released on his own recognizance to appear in court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Saturday to the State Hwy 10 and Falls Mills Rd in the Town of Delhi for a report of a male subject walking in the roadway. A 2nd call stated that a male subject had been struck by a passing motorist in that same vicinity. Deputies & Delhi Fire Department & EMS located 18 year old Damyan Bonilla of Chester New York, who was taken to O’Connor Hospital with injuries & he was later transferred to Bassett Medical Center for further treatment. Deputies determined that Bonilla was walking on State Route 10, he was struck by a vehicle, the investigation in on-going.

Congressman Antonio Delgado announced that 11,131 petition signatures were delivered to the New York State Board of Elections for Delgado's reelection in New York's 19th Congressional District. New York's 19th Congressional District is expected to include all of Delaware County and parts of Broome, Chenango, & Otsego counties.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli issued a statement following the Legislature's passage of an extender bill to fund state operations, after they failed to come to an agreement on a budget plan: DiNapoli stated that the budget extender bill will ensure that more than 60,000 state employees will be paid this week, but there may be a delay.

Cross Tie was supposed to dispose of old wood beams that were coated with creosote at a regulated site in Erie County but instead dumped the ties, contaminated with 11 hazardous substances at a property in Chenango County. The railroad ties have been removed as part of the Chenango County Industrial Development Agency’s Chenango County Rail Revitalization Services project in 2015 to repair and improve railroad tracks throughout the county.

Governor Kathy Hochul’s administration has lifted a 3-month pause on a new law that will require nursing homes to meet minimum standards for staffing and patient care. The law creates minimum staffing ratios and requires that nursing home residents get at least 3.5 hours per day of direct nursing care, it was approved in 2021 in response to the nursing home crisis during the pandemic, when thousands of Nursing Home residents died from the virus.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office assisted the US Marshals in executing an arrest warrant in the Town of Maryland on 59 year old Michael Hawkins for failure to register as a sex offender. Hawkins was convicted in 1997 for child molestation in Rhode Island, he faces a maximum term of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
Governor Kathy Hochul & the State Legislature failed to pass the state budget on time Friday. Negotiations over bail reform, to-go drinks and New York City casinos stalled the completion of the budget, If the budget isn’t passed today, paychecks for state government employees will be delayed, according to state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.

A lack of funding for public health forced the Department to operate without critical information systems and staff that could have identified and helped limit the spread of COVID-19 at nursing homes, also the department did not provide the public with accurate COVID-19 death counts and became entangled in the undercounting of those deaths as Governor Cuomo took control of information provided to the public. The Auditors believe that the actual number of nursing home residents who died is still uncertain.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on Main Street in Delhi last Friday with a non-functional headlight. Deputies stopped the vehicle, the driver was identified as 19-year-old Skylar Pesout of Sidney Center, Deputies charged him with DWI and driving with blood alcohol content of .14%. Pesout was also issued Traffics Tickets & was released on an appearance tickets and is to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on a later date to answer the charges.

Norwich City Police officers conducted a traffic stop on Mitchell Street Friday Morning, the driver left the vehicle & ran, & was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. Norwich police charged 23 year old Dylan Keenan of Bridgewater for criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of governmental administration and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, plus Keenan was wanted on several outstanding warrants from different police agencies. Police confiscated methamphetamines packaged for sale, Keenan was processed & was was released on an appearance ticket, but was turned over to State Police for additional processing on the warrants.

The New York State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for January 2022. The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 5.4% in December 2021 to 5.3% in January 2022. Delaware & Chenango Counties reported at 4% Unemployment, Otsego had 4.1% unemployment in January.
Jake Cotten was elected as Unadilla’s new village mayor over challenger Christopher Price in village elections Tuesday, by a vote of 117 to 82. Democrat Paul Baldwin and Republican Joseph Paliotta won trustee seats on the Unadilla Village Board. In Otego, Democrat David Clapper & Republican James Salisbury were elected to the village board.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies stopped a vehicle on State Highway 10 last Tuesday in the Town of Delhi with an expired vehicle inspection sticker. 29-year-old Christina Hood of Delhi had her driving privileges suspended for Failure to Answer a Summons in the Town of Delhi Court, and the vehicle she was operating had a suspended registration. Hood was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & Operating with a Suspended Registration, unlicensed operator and uninspected motor vehicle. Hood was released on Traffic Tickets, to appear in the Town of Delhi at a later time.
The City of Norwich Police Department & New York State Parole performed a home check Friday morning at 6 Lee Avenue in Norwich. Police discovered Methamphetamines, suboxone & an illegal rifle, Norwich officers arrested 34 year old Michael Pierce and 30 year old Jordann Maroney for criminal possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child, Pierce was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Pierce and Maroney were arraigned in Norwich City Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched February 15th to a Harassment Complaint in the Town of Meredith. 48-year old Zacharias Fuller of Richfield Springs had electronically communicated with the victim and made threats to harm the victim. Deputies submitted a request for a criminal summons and an order of protection to Town of Meredith Court, which was issued. Deputies learned that Fuller was being held on unrelated charges at the Otsego County Correctional Facility, he was charged with Aggravated Harassment & he remained incarcerated in Otsego County, and will appear in the Town of Meredith Court at a later date.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum announced that they will be receiving artifacts from the World Series Champion Atlanta Braves. Artifacts will include Spikes worn by Braves Game 6 starter Max Fried, a Batting helmet worn by World Series MVP Jorge Soler, a Bat used by Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman in Game 6 & the Jersey worn in Games 1 and 2 by Braves manager Brian Snitker.

The winners for the Sidney Town board were Frank Selleck & Bill Heath, in the Town of Meredith, Town Council winners were John Janiszewski & David Briggs, the Town of Franklin Board seats go to Garret Sitts & Heather Ross, the town of Middletown Supervisor Will be Patrick Davis, the Town of Tompkins Clerk was Michelle Phoenix, in the Town Of Delhi, the supervisor will be Mark Tuttle, the Town Council winners were Margaret Baldwin & Matthew Kryston & the Walton Town Supervisor will be Joseph Cetta. On October 21st, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 68 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on State Highway 8 in Masonville. 52-year-old Jack Mason of Whitney Point, was stopped, his license was revoked due to failure to answer a prior summons from the Sidney Town Court. Mason was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle, Speeding, Failure to Use a Turn Signal, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Stop Lamps. Mason was later released on traffic tickets to Masonville Town Court at a later date.
