Otsego County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a property damage accident on Springfield Hill Road in the Town of Middlefield November 18th. 30 year old Katy Cole of Middlefield, is accused of fleeing the scene of the accident on foot, Deputies were able to track Cole down using the police canine, Cole was arrested & was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal of breath screening test, Leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Failure to keep right & Failure to notify DMV of an address change, she was held at the Otsego County Jail for arraignment.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and Delaware Opportunities will be asking people to donate toys for the annual Toys for Tots Campaign for another week, Chamber President Ray Pucci explains:

The toys will be picked up from all locations with collection boxes on December 8th, the toys will be distributed to Delaware County Families in Need.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a trespass complaint in the Town of Davenport last week. 73 year old George Sydlar is accused of cutting his neighbors barbed wire fence that was dividing their 2 properties. Sydlar was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Davenport Court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested Nathan Clements of Chenango County following a traffic stop in the Town of Laurens. Clemens was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle, No distinctive plate, Failure to notify DMV of an address change & Disobeying a traffic control device, he was issued appearance tickets for Laurens Court at a later date.

Statistics show that the flu season is ramping up early, with flu hospitalizations higher at this point in the season than they have been in a decade. Flu is also spreading at the same time as other respiratory illnesses, including RSV and COVID-19. Ganesh Ramsaran of New Berlin will be granted a new murder trial soon in Chenango County Court, the decision follows the claim that Ramsaran received incompetent counsel from his attorney Gil Garcia, who had inflated his litigation experience & was eventually censured by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. In 2014 Ramsaran was found guilty of killing his estranged wife Jennifer in December 2012 & was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, he has been appealing his conviction & sentence for 8 years.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced that a new VA clinic will be opening soon at the Foxcare Center in Oneonta, replacing the one that has been in Bainbridge for several years, Peter Potter of the Albany Veterans Affairs office said that the clinics usage is examined every 5 years, and usage of the Bainbridge clinic was down:

Potter said that the opening date for the new VA Clinic at Foxcare will likely be early December, and the Bainbridge office will remain open until the Friday before the Oneonta Office opens.
The Latest Marist Poll shows incumbent Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul leading her Republican Lee Zeldin by 10% in the most recent polling. Hochul led by a 51% to 41% margin, 8% said that they voting for another party's candidate or were undecided. In the U.S. Senate contest in New York, Democratic incumbent Charles Schumer (54%) has a wide lead over his Republican challenger, Joe Pinion (34%)
The State Department of Health today released its County Opioid Quarterly Report for October 2022, showing a 14% increase in 2021 overdose deaths involving opioids over the prior year. More than 30,000 naloxone administrations have been reported to the Department based on reports received through September 2022. The full report can be found at health.ny.gov.
The Governor's Office & the state DMV announced that hundreds of people received tickets during the recent seasonal crackdown on Fake ID's used to purchase alcoholic beverages. 580 fake documents were seized and a total of 505 tickets were issued, with an additional 46 tickets issued for violations of the Alcohol Beverage and Control Law.
The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will have their next regular meeting tomorrow. Tuesday's meeting will begin at 7:30 am at the back of Bob's Diner. Chamber members are encouraged to attend.

The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Local #1529 voted on Saturday to strike against Amphenol in Sidney following the latest 3 year contract proposal. The vote was held Saturday morning at the Sidney School District, picket lines have been set up at the Amphenol plants. The Union's Website stated that the 700 striking workers are looking for a contract that improves healthcare and paid sick leave benefits, and eliminated the two-tier wage system currently in place.
Attorney General Letitia James today announced that 88 firearms were turned in to law enforcement at a gun buyback event hosted by her office and the Binghamton Police Department. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) accepts, working and non-working, unloaded firearms in exchange for compensation on site. To date, Attorney General James has taken more than 3,600 firearms out of communities through gun buyback events since 2019.
State tax receipts totaled $58.4 billion through the first half of State Fiscal Year, exceeding the latest projections from the 1st Quarterly Update, according to the September State Cash Report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Personal income tax receipts totaled $33.2 billion and were $2.4 billion above the state Division of the Budget’s latest financial plan projections through September 30.

Governor Hochul announced the start of the 2nd phase of a plan to allow 3rd parties to offer the Commercial Driver License road test, to both public and private entities. The program is being implemented to address the shortage of bus and truck drivers. Any qualified third party is now eligible to apply for certification through the DMV, New Yorkers can find more information at dmv.ny.gov/commercial-drivers.
Famed "Star Trek" star & Author George Takei is scheduled to be a speaker at SUNY Oneonta on October 24 at 7:00 PM at the Alumni Field House. Takei is the author of “They Called Us Enemy”, which is a New York Times Best Seller, in which he describes his experiences of growing up in internment camps in the United States as a Japanese American during World War II.
State Police and the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services announced that a contingent of 50 State Troopers left Saturday morning for Puerto Rico to help the island nation as it recovers from the devastation left behind in the wake of Hurricane Fiona. The first wave of 50 Troopers, along with 69 New Jersey State Troopers, flew out of JFK airport at about 10 am. this morning bound for Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The flight was donated by Jet Blue Airlines.

The victim sustained broken bones, a fractured spine and a collapsed lung and was taken to a Binghamton Hospital, Franco was charged with Assault in the 2nd degree, he was arraigned and held on $25,000 cash bail.

Last Thursday Braedon Baker of Norwich asked permission to bring his tractor to Norwich High School Friday, as he had some errands to run with it after school, he was told he could not. Braedon's Father Rob Baker told him that it was not illegal, and to take it anyway and Friday the tractor was impounded by Norwich City Police & taken to the City Lot. Rob Baker paid the $325 towing fee and they went home, You Tuber "Whistlin's Diesel" heard the story & offered to pay Norwich School District residents to drive their tractors to school today & he would pay them, according to Rob Baker:

Baker said that their hope is to take to publicity that this event raised & start an FFA group at the Norwich school district.
The CDC is warning residents in most upstate counties to wear masks due to high case-counts of COVID-19. 36 counties are now classified as having "high" community levels of the coronavirus, making up almost half of the entire nationwide total. “High Transmission” counties have confirmed cases of the new BA.2.12 sub-variant, according to the state Health Department officials. Governor Hochul’s office reported Thursday that Central New York, the Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley and Southern Tier were on a downward trend in case counts, and hospitalizations.

The State DMV is warning residents about an increase in catalytic converter thefts across the state. The DMV will now issue serial numbers to dealers to etch into each catalytic converter, which use platinum, palladium, and other precious metals is the reason criminals are stealing them, The catalytic converters have a street value of between $200 and $300.

State Police have identified 20-year-old Tyler Graham of Burlington Flats as the driver of a car in a fiery crash in Edmeston Thursday night. The initial investigation revealed that Graham was traveling at an unsafe speed on County Highway 20 when he struck a fence and tree & his vehicle caught fire. Police were able to remove Graham from the car, he was transported by helicopter to Upstate Medical Center, The crash remains under investigation.
The City of Oneonta Police Department arrested 36-year-old Melissa Scott of Oneonta for 1st degree Assault and criminal possession of a weapon, after Scott and a 34-year-old male victim engaged in a domestic dispute at 7 Fonda Avenue in Oneonta. Scott allegedly stabbed the male victim causing a serious injury and uncontrolled bleeding, he was transported to Fox Hospital, was stabilized & was transported to Albany Medical Center. The CDC is warning residents in most upstate counties to wear masks due to high case-counts of COVID-19. 36 counties are now classified as having "high" community levels of the coronavirus, making up almost half of the entire nationwide total. “High Transmission” counties have confirmed cases of the new BA.2.12 sub-variant, according to the state Health Department officials. The DMV will now issue serial numbers to dealers to etch into each catalytic converter, which use platinum, palladium, and other precious metals is the reason criminals are stealing them, The catalytic converters have a street value of between $200 and $300.

State Police have identified 20-year-old Tyler Graham of Burlington Flats as the driver of a car in a fiery crash in Edmeston Thursday night. The initial investigation revealed that Graham was traveling at an unsafe speed on County Highway 20 when he struck a fence and tree & his vehicle caught fire. Police were able to remove Graham from the car, he was transported by helicopter to Upstate Medical Center, The crash remains under investigation.
The City of Oneonta Police Department arrested 36-year-old Melissa Scott of Oneonta for 1st degree Assault and criminal possession of a weapon, after Scott and a 34-year-old male victim engaged in a domestic dispute at 7 Fonda Avenue in Oneonta. Scott allegedly stabbed the male victim causing a serious injury and uncontrolled bleeding, he was transported to Fox Hospital, was stabilized & was transported to Albany Medical Center. Governor Kathy Hochul has tested positive for COVID-19. Governor Hochul stated that she has been both vaccinated and boosted, along with not showing any symptoms. Hochul will be continuing her isolation throughout the week and work remotely until she is cleared.

36 Year Old Jonas Whaley of the Town of German pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime in US District Court in Syracuse. Whaley was arrested in September of 2021 & As part of his guilty plea, he admitted to possessing 50 grams of an illicit substance containing methamphetamine, plus handguns to protect himself while distributing drugs. Whaley faces sentencing on August 23rd.
Otsego County District Attorney's office announced the conviction of Bradley Cook of Oneonta for 2 counts of 1st degree criminal sexual act, for performing sexual acts with a minor under the age of 11 on 2 occasions. Cook will be sentenced June 24th.

Firefighters were called to 452 West Street at about 1:00 AM Sunday to find the home fully engulfed, Fire Fighters from West Oneonta, Otego, Laurens, West Laurens, Mt. Vision, Worcester, Schenevus, Franklin and Pindars Corners fire departments assisted at the scene, no one was home when the fire broke out & no injuries were reported.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced a partnership with SUNY and Syracuse University in which 10 new testing sites will be opening on State University of New York campuses across the state and at Syracuse University the week of Jan. 3. More campus sites will open in the coming weeks as the project expands. SUNY testing sites to open later this week include Binghamton University & SUNY Oneonta.

Albany County District Attorney David Soares is dropping a criminal charge against former Governor Andrew Cuomo for allegedly fondling an aide in Albany last year. Soares' decision comes just before Cuomo was due in court this week to answer to the misdemeanor charge, The Albany DA's decision follows other jurisdiction's prosecutors dropping similar charges against Cuomo. The Albany County charges were filed by the Sheriff's Office last October, Cuomo has denied those specific allegations.
The Otsego County Health Department reported 81 new COVID 19 cases on Monday, with 7 hospitalized 398 active cases, and a 12% seven day rolling average positivity rate. Officials remind Otsego County Residents to adhere to the Mask Mandates now in effect until February to try to stop the spread of the highly contagious Omicron Variant.
The Otsego County Department of Motor Vehicles announced that their office will be closed this week & will re-open on Monday January 10th. The office was closed due to COVID 19 issues among the DMV staff, residents can still perform transactions at dmv.ny.gov.

The suspect unlawfully entered a residence on Poplar Avenue and caused physical injury to an elderly victim, who was transported to Bassett Hospital and is in stable condition. Hochul said she will introduce a constitutional amendment to set limits of 2 consecutive terms for those statewide elected officials, & she will propose legislation to impose a ban on earned outside income for those elected officials, with an exception for academic positions that receive ethics board approval. The 2022 State of the State Address will be held in the New York State Assembly Chamber on Wednesday, January 5.
Delaware County Public Health reported 279 new positive cases of COVID 19 in their latest report covering Thursday through Monday, the positivity rate was up to 15.3%. Delaware County has 462 positive cases with 375 quarantined, there have been 85 deaths from the virus during the pandemic.

The petition asks the Supreme Court to review an October 2021 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that upheld the district court's rejection of the states' suit, which argues that the SALT cap was a politically motivated bid by the former federal administration to interfere with the policy choices of Democratic led states.
The next General Clinton Canoe Regatta Meeting will be held tonight in Bainbridge. The meeting will be held at Galaxy Bowl starting at 7:00 PM. Chairman John Harmon announced that many race decisions have to be made at tonight's meeting.
