Amphenol in Sidney is planning for a variety of celebrations to coincide with the 100th anniversary in Sidney in 2025, Chris Cappello of Amphenol is helping to plan the festivities:

Cappello said that they are starting to collect memorabilia from the Scintilla, Bendix, Allied & Amphenol days, a new website has been set up at sparkinthedark100.com with more information regarding getting the items to Amphenol for consideration in their displays or for their future museum.


The Otsego County Department of Health announced that the recently cancelled Unadilla Rabies clinic has been rescheduled. The new Clinic date will be July 27th, at Clifton Park, more information is available at 547-4230


Hill City Celebrations, which was formerly known as "First Night Oneonta" is holding its annual Hometown Fourth of July Festival in Neahwa Park. The event will take place on Tuesday, July 4, beginning with a parade on Main Street at 1 p.m. Following the parade, family-friendly games and activities, food and craft vendors, live music, and other activities will be held all day in Neahwa Park. The night culminates with a fireworks display in Neahwa Park after dark, the rain date is slated for Wednesday, July 5.)

State Police responded Tuesday to an address on Popple Hill Rd in the Town of Lisle after a 911 call was received. Preliminary results of the investigation indicated that a deceased 36-year-old female intentionally caused the death of her 7-year-old son before taking her own life. The investigation is on-going.


Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 48 year old Paul Thayer of Cooperstown was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court. Count One of the Indictment alleges that the he attempted to endanger the welfare of a child. Count Two accuses him of Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, for allegedly engaging in a sexually explicit conversation with a person that he believed to be a 14-year-old child, with the intention of enticing the child to engage in sexual conduct with him, he traveled to the Village of Walton to meet with that child, but instead was confronted by the adult that had been posing as a 14-year-old child. Walton Police Department conducted a police investigation which resulted in this indictment. Thayer pleaded not guilty and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail pending a conference on June 26th.


The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Allan Holmes on an outstanding warrant, Holmes is described as a black male, 5' 10", 240 pounds with brown hair & brown eyes, he is wanted on a warrant for criminal possession of a controlled substance, Tips may be submitted electronically to gobroomecounty.com/sheriff/warrants or by calling the Broome County Sheriff’s Office tip line at (607) 778-1196.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1 car motor vehicle accident with injuries on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton. Deputies observed a vehicle had left the roadway, struck a culvert pipe, causing the vehicle to rollover, then coming to rest in a private driveway. Deputies made contact with the driver, 41-year-old Amy Kille of Walton. Deputies charged Amy Kille with DWI, Aggravated DWI with a BAC greater than 0.18%, among other charges, Kille was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Walton Court at a later date


Commerce Chenango announced that their next Business After Hours event will be held today, at Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County. The event will run from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Hospice location at 33-39 Court Street in Norwich.

The State Police issued a total of 38,363 tickets statewide during the National “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign which ran from May 22nd to June 4th. Troopers arrested 399 people for DWI and investigated 2,436 crashes, including 410 personal injury crashes and 2 fatal crashes. Troopers wrote over 10,600 tickets for speeding, over 1300 for Distracted Driving, over 8400 for Seat-belt violations & 337 for violating the Move Over Law.


Broome County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 44 year old Shaun Kozak of the Town of Maine following a series of larcenies at several NYSEG substations and other electrical facilities. Detectives discovered a large amount of industrial electrical equipment consistent with several reported larcenies, after conducting a search of Kozak's Garage, he was charged with 3rd degree Burglary, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & 4th degree Grand Larceny, Kozak was taken to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.


Attorney General Letitia James announced the final approval of $17.3 billion in opioid agreements with drug makers Teva Pharmaceuticals and Allergan and pharmacies CVS and Walgreens, which includes over $1 billion for New York State. The settlement requires Teva to operate under a monitor to prevent all opioid marketing, CVS and Walgreens are required to monitor, report, and share data about suspicious activity related to opioid prescriptions.

Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded Tuesday to a report of a physical injury domestic dispute in the Town of Binghamton, they found a female victim with lacerations, 38 year old Adam Gurney of Binghamton, was arrested, after deputies found that he had a full Stay Away Order of Protection against him, he also had an outstanding arrest warrant through the Town of Vestal, for violating an order of protection. Gurney was charged with Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Family Offense, Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, he was arraigned and has remained in custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that she is pushing for federal assistance with the Canadian fires & for upgrading equipment to deal with these situations:

The smoke has reached into the Carolina's as well as shifting to the West in Canada and in the US today, the Canadian government has not indicated when they will have the fires under control.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies initiated a traffic stop Wednesday on State Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden after observing a vehicle driving erratically, and passing multiple vehicles on the roadway. Deputies identified the driver as 26-year-old, Kyle Buckley, of Walton, Buckley’s driver’s license had been suspended for failure to answer a summons on 3 separate dates. Buckley was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator & improper passing, he was released on the traffic tickets and is directed to appear in the Town of Hamden Court at a later date to answer the said charges.


Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that her administration has reached contract agreements with the New York State Public Employees Federation and with the United University Professions. The agreement with PEF is for a three-year term running until April 1, 2026 for more than 51,000 New York State employees in a in a wide variety of professional, scientific and technical titles. The agreement with UUP is for a four-year term running until July 1, 2026 for more than 37,000 SUNY system faculty and professional employees. Both agreements are subject to ratification by union membership.


The largest statewide Special Olympics New York competition of the year is coming to Ithaca this weekend. More than 800 athletes and coaches from throughout New York will be in the area for State Summer Games, with competition in 7 sports: Basketball, Bowling, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, Swimming, Tennis and Track & Field, with festivities beginning Friday at 7:00 PM, with the closing ceremonies Saturday night.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Robert Schrauger on an outstanding warrant and asking the residents of Broome County for assistance, he is described as a white male, bald about 5'4" 150 pounds, he is wanted for a Sex Offender Registration violation and for failing to report to a parole officer. Former long time area Assemblyman Gary Finch passed away Friday at the age of 79. Finch retired from the Assembly in 2020 after serving for 10 terms in the Assembly, part of his district was in Chenango County.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that a proposed change to Medicare wage payments, could bring about $43 million for UHS hospitals locally. Schumer said that almost $4 million alone could go to UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.

All levels of the City of Oneonta municipal parking garage will be closed until further notice. Routine visual inspection has revealed some additional structural deterioration. City officials are taking precautionary measures until the entire garage can be reevaluated by the City’s structural engineering consultant. The Trailways bus terminal may remain open with no impact to regular operations. Parking restrictions will be lifted in the City’s Dietz Street Lot. There is additional public parking available in the Damaschke Field and Neahwa Park Large Pavilion parking lots & The City is working to establish a downtown shuttle bus to downtown.


Norwich Police arrested 36 year old Thomas Wright for criminal contempt, resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, criminal possession of a controlled substance, burglary and grand larceny charges. Police received information Thursday that Wright was hiding in an apartment at 46 Henry Street, he was eventually taken into custody. Wright was turned over to the State Police.

A Group of Sidney residents & businesses are teaming up for a fundraiser Saturday at 6:30 at Keith Clark Park for the family of Anielle "AK" McEwan-Lomnicki, who was severely injured when she was hit by a vehicle while walking home from school Wednesday afternoon. Ayres also said that the Polar Bear Jump at Good year Lake will be held tomorrow and a portion of those funds raised will also go to AK's family. Deputies were patrolling Sunday on State Highway 10 in the Town of Delhi, they conducted a traffic stop & charged Dalton with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, she was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 38 year-old Danielle Pitre of Staten Island, for driving with a suspended registration. Deputies were patrolling Sunday on State Highway 30 in the Town of Colchester, they conducted a traffic stop, Pitre was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Failure to turn in License Plate to DMV, Failure to Notify DMV of Address Change, and several other lesser charges, she was released on the traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date to answer the charge.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 40 year old Denise Wells of Herkimer was convicted of 1 count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, in the Town of Delhi Court Wednesday. Wells was charged after driving erratically through Delhi on December 12th of last year, she eventually drove off the road on State Highway 10, she was under the influence of heroin. Wells was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge, she was also ordered to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, attend and complete an Impaired Driver Program, and attend a Victim Impact Panel, her license was revoked for 6 months, and she was ordered to pay $900 in fines & fees.

Gillibrand said that the last Farm Bill came in 2018 before the pandemic, which has added or changed many of the provisions from previous Farm bills out of necessity due to new problems that the pandemic created or expanded.


Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a physical injury domestic dispute in the Town of Union. 66 year old Brian Sanks of the Town of Union, had attempted to smother his Girlfriend in her sleep, threatened to shoot her with a pistol, and threatened to use a taser baton on her. Sanks was taken into custody by deputies and an Extreme Risk Protection Order was subsequently issued, several weapons & drug paraphernalia were removed from Sanks residence. Sanks was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, he was arraigned and has remained in custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.


The Binghamton Black Bears Hockey Team are hosting the 23rd Annual Career Fair tonight, prior to tonight's game against Danbury. The career fair will be held at the Arena from 2:30 to 5:30 PM.
