State Police arrested 41 year old Donatello Lazarati of Baldwinsville for Bail Jumping and Criminal Contempt, following a violation of a court order issued following his arraignment on a previous Grand Larceny charge. Lazarati was prohibited from leaving the United States and was directed to surrender his passport. Lazarati failed to comply with those conditions, State Police were notified Thursday that Lazarati was attempting to leave the United States and purchased an airline ticket to Qatar at John F. Kennedy International Airport, he was arrested at the airport, brought back to Troop C, and was processed in and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $35,000 cash, $50,000 credit or $250,000 partially secured bond.


Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 60 year old Steven Moore of Bainbridge for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance as well as on an active bench warrant Thursday. Deputies observed Moore on Bixby Street, they were aware of the bench warrant issued by the Town of Bainbridge Court and took him into custody without incident. Deputies discovered methamphetamine in Moore's possession, he was transported to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Bainbridge Court at a later date.


The Luszi’s Legacy Cornhole Tournament last weekend successful, the tournament raised $1,600 that will go directly to Pet Street Station Animal Hospital fund, to assist families deal with the bills for emergency or quality of life care for their senior pets.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified of a scam where callers are contacting residents and reporting that they are from the New York State Electric & Gas, The scammers state that there is an overdue bill and that if the bill is not immediately paid, the resident's electricity will be shut off. The Sheriff;s Office reported that people should never give personal financial information to cold callers, they should hang up, and contact local law enforcement if they feel that they were scammed.


Chenango County Planning Department announced that they are seeking more public comments on the Hazard Mitigation Plan, Shane Butler of the Planning Department Shane Butler told WCDO News about the process:

The Unadilla Food Pantry is having an open house on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at their location, at 172 Main Street. Participants will tour the facility & meet with volunteers & learn about their programs.


The Oneonta Town Board has approved a 1 year moratorium to stop new data centers or cryptocurrency mining. The moratorium affects plans by Eco-Yotta from building a data center on County Road 9 in the Town of Oneonta, the plan requires State Approval to be implemented.


Regatta Row will be set up for another week in the Bainbridge Business District, the canoe paddle Adirondack chairs will be brought to the General Clinton Canoe Regatta grounds next Friday & they will be auctioned off at 4:00 PM Saturday May 23rd in the Chamber of Commerce tent at General Clinton park during the canoe regatta. State Police arrested 46 year old James Lewis of Binghamton after a dispute that resulted in another man sustaining serious injuries. Lewis has been charged with 1st Degree Robbery & Assault, On Friday afternoon, Troopers were dispatched to Endicott for a report of a male who had been struck multiple times by a baseball bat following a dispute. The 48 year old unidentified victim was taken to Wilson Medical Center, where he underwent surgery & was listed in stable condition. An investigation determined that Lewis and the victim had previously traded e-bikes, with the victim expected to pay Lewis, when he failed to provide payment, Lewis struck him multiple times with a baseball bat then left the area with the e-bike. Troopers located Lewis Saturday, was taken into custody without incident, and the e-bike was recovered. Lewis was processed & was turned over to the Broome County Jail for Arraignment.


Broome County Sheriff’s Office and numerous local fire departments responded last Wednesday to a house fire at 803 Hill Avenue in the Town of Union. Firefighters found a fully involved fire, after extinguishing the fire, a victim was located inside the residence, deceased. The deceased victim was identified as 86 year old Joyce Bassos, There were no other occupants in the residence. The cause of the fire is under investigation, The preliminary investigation does not indicate any criminal action.

The Deposit Village Board has decided to discontinue their contract with the Broome County Sheriff's Office to have a dedicate law enforcement presence in Deposit. The move comes about 6 years after the dissolution of the Deposit Police Department. Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar released a statement saying the\at the decision will make emergency response times in the Village unpredictable, they will respond to emergencies along with the New York State Police going forward.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at a residence in the Town of Sanford Tuesday. Deputies located the suspicious vehicle and performed a traffic stop. The driver, 29 year old Philip Briggs of Deposit told deputies that he had picked up the passenger, 37 year old Emily Cecere of Binghamton, who claimed to have been staying at the residence, The owner confirmed that no one was authorized to stay there. Briggs was found to have a burglary tool in his possession and Cecere was found to be in possession of a credit card belonging to a deceased individual who lived at the residence. Briggs was charged with Burglary, Possession of Burglar Tools and Conspiracy, Cecere was charged with Burglary and Conspiracy, they will face court action shortly.


During Earth Week, The State DEC announced a total of 23 municipalities certified under New York State’s Climate Smart Communities Certification program. The certifications recognize that these communities have taken actions to reduce flood risk, address extreme heat, invest in clean energy, improve infrastructure, reduce air pollution, and increase resilience across the state. Bronze certified and re certified communities include: Village of Cooperstown, the Town of Middlefield & Otsego County.

79 year old Stanley Suchy of Stamford, was sentenced to 10 years of incarceration and 20 years of post-release supervision in Delaware County Court Tuesday. Suchy had pleaded guilty to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child, He was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to begin his sentence.


The General Clinton Canoe Regatta committee has decided to try GPS monitoring systems on some of the Canoes this year, as a way for fans and officials to keep track of racers, co-chairman Mike Kaufman explains:

Kaufman said that if it proves to be successful, they may plan to expand the use of GPS in future years. The Regatta will be held over the Memorial Day weekend this year.


New York Attorney General Letitia James is suing Coinbase and Gemini, 2 of the newest players in the prediction market industry, arguing that the companies' unregulated and unlicensed platforms are illegal gambling operations. By operating without licenses, the lawsuit says, Coinbase's and Gemini's prediction market businesses aren't paying the same taxes as licensed casinos and mobile sports-books, which are taxed by the state at a rate of approximately 51% of gross revenues. The lawsuit also claims that Coinbase and Gemini allow users as young as 18, the state law prohibits wagering by anyone under 21. The lawsuit seeks to bar the companies' platforms from operating in the state unless and until they obtain licenses from the state Gaming Commission.

State Troopers initiated a traffic stop Sunday on a vehicle for moving unsafely from its lane. Troopers observed a pill container in the vehicle driven by 43 year old Adam Morley of Deposit, the contents was later identified as oxycodone. Troopers also discovered methamphetamine and a pump action shotgun that had been reported stolen in South Carolina. Morley was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the passenger, 27 year old Taylor Fineout of Hancock, was found in possession of a 30-round illegal high-capacity ammunition magazine, as well as methamphetamine, he was charged with Unlawful Possession of an Ammunition Feeding Device, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Both individuals were processed and were released on appearance tickets for Deposit Town Court on May 4.

Delaware County Public Health is hosting free Climate and Health Workshops at the Delaware County Senior Dining Centers. Participants will learn how changes to the climate can impact their health and ways to prepare for emergencies. These workshops are free and open to residents 60 years and older. Each workshop will take place during the senior dining program lunch hour from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM, each participant will receive a starter emergency preparedness kit. Oneonta Fire Department responded at about 1:30 this morning to a structure fire at 5 Grand Street. An Occupant in 1 of the apartments reported a kitchen fire, crews found light smoke showing from the exterior of the building, they encountered heavy smoke and poor visibility on the 2nd floor, they located the involved apartment and quickly extinguished the fire. The Department reported that all 6 residents from the 3 affected apartments have been displaced and will remain so until repairs can be completed. 1 occupant was taken to A.O. Fox Hospital for evaluation, 1 resident's cat perished in the fire. Assistance was provided by the Sidney Fire Department FAST Team, West Oneonta Fire Department was on stand-by, the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Locally, Voters in the Sidney Central School District approved the budget 147-43, they also passed the bus proposition & the Sidney Luibrary budget, Bainbridge-Guilford School Budget passes 180-78, Franklin had their budget, bus & library votes passed, other local who schools who reported budget votes passing by substantial margins were Unatego, Oneonta, GMU, DEPOSIT, WALTON, Afton, UNADILLA VALLEY, Greene, Harpursville.

Due to inclement weather, Wednesday's Rumble Ponies game against the Richmond Flying Squirrels at Mirabito Stadium has been suspended with the score 2-2 entering the top of the sixth inning. The suspended game will resume on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The regularly scheduled game Thursday night will begin approximately 40 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game. 49 year old Keith Audette of Hamden, appeared in Delaware County Court and was sentenced to a 5-year term of probation supervision for the crime of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Audette had previously appeared in Delaware County Court in November and entered a plea of guilty to the charge, he had been previously convicted of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated in Chenango County Court in 2015, he also admitted that he drove a motor vehicle in the Village of Walton on April 9, 2024, while under the influence of methamphetamine. Audette was also ordered to pay fines, fees, and a surcharge at a total amount of $1,570, his license was revoked, and he was ordered to provide a sample of his DNA for inclusion in the state DNA data base. If he violates any of the terms of probation, he may be re-sentenced to one and one third to four years in state prison.


Deposit & Windsor Firefighters responded to a basement fire in on 2nd Street in Deposit shortly before 7:00 PM Tuesday Night. Deposit Fire crews found the fire in the basement of a 2 story home, no injuries were reported, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Gilbertville Mount Upton Superintendent Annette Hammond announced that she will retire following the completion of her 10th year as superintendent and 16th overall at GMU. Hammond became GMU’s middle/high school principal in August 2009, and was named superintendent in August 2015. The District will begin conducting a search for a new Superintendent shortly.

State Police responded yesterday afternoon to at about 3:50 pm to a 3-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Highway 7 and County Highway 9 in the town of Oneonta. A preliminary investigation determined that a BMW was traveling on State Highway 7 when it struck a Toyota from behind while the Toyota was waiting to turn left onto County Highway 9, the Toyota was pushed into the path of a Chevrolet SUV and they collided head-on. The operator of the BMW, a 76-year-old male was pronounced deceased on scene, it is unknown at this time whether he died as a result of the collision or if he suffered a medical event. The operator of the Toyota, a 24-year-old male was transported to A.O Fox Hospital, The operator of the Chevrolet SUV, a 52-year-old male with 3 children were checked out on scene but not transported. The investigation is on-going.


Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 43 year old Randall Harmon of Sherburne for Criminal Contempt & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, after he violated specific conditions of an Order of Protection. Members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office & Parole Officers made a home visit, in the home Officers located a female subject & a child, who had an order of protection against Harmon, Officers seized methamphetamine. Harmon was taken to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing, he was then remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on an active Parole Warrant as a result of the previous charges.


23 year old Bryce Farrell of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court and pleaded guilty to Attempted Burglary, he admitted that on July 28, 2023, in the Village of Walton, he entered a building he did not have permission to be in for the purpose of committing a crime, 3 days later, an individual reported to Walton Police Department that his residence had been broken into and a safe stolen. Investigators reviewed security footage, identified Farrell as one of the burglars, an arrest warrant was issued & Farrell was apprehended by State Police in November. Judge Hubbard ordered the Delaware County Probation Department to conduct a pre-sentencing report. His sentencing is tentatively scheduled for March 11th.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Timothy Melius of Pittsfield following a visit by the Otsego County Probation Department. Melius was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon & 3 counts of Criminal Contempt for possessing of firearms & ammunition despite having multiple court orders prohibiting him from possessing them. Melius was taken in to custody and transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office for processing, he was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Pittsfield Court for the above charges. The defendant was then transported to the Otsego County Probation Department where he was processed on a probation violation and arraigned in the presence of an Otsego County Court magistrate. Following arraignment, the defendant was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await further court proceedings.


The 51st State Senate District has a race this year between incumbent State Senator Peter Oberacker & Democrat Michelle Frazier. Oberacker told WCDO News why he feels he should be voted in for a 3rd term after getting key legislation passed:

U.S. Senators Schumer and Gillibrand announced that New York will receive $360,185,996 in federal funding through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The money will help thousands of low-income households across the state afford their energy bills and make cost-effective repairs to their heating systems this winter. The State Department of Health today announced that as the transmission of seasonal respiratory illnesses is underway, the State’s weekly flu reports and Flu Tracker website have been activated. The Department’s first Weekly Report for the week ending October 19, shows there were 565 lab-confirmed cases reported across the state, with 26 people hospitalized and 5 outbreaks were reported in long-term and acute care facilities. On Tuesday, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force attempted to execute a narcotics search warrant at a residence and vehicle in the Town of Sanford. 39 year old Scott Lord of Deposit, fled the scene in a vehicle, leading law enforcement on a lengthy pursuit into Pennsylvania. As deputies and Pennsylvania State Police responded to seize the vehicle, Lord was found to still be in the vehicle and he fled the parking lot, striking a Broome County patrol car and another vehicle, Vehicle tire deflation devices were successfully deployed and Lord crashed into a creek. Lord was arrested for Attempted Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, The Wayne County District Attorney has also announced several felony charges.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Paul Callahan of Greene for Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors and Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Callahan was arrested after an investigation determined he sent several nude photos of himself to a decoy 14-year-old male victim’s online account. Callahan was released on an appearance ticket for the above charges and is to appear in the Town of Greene Court at a later date.


41 year old James Fuller of Fulton, pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Attempted Burglary and was sentenced to 1.5 to 3 years in state prison. Fuller unlawfully entered a barn located on State Highway 10 in the Town of Harpersfield, with the intent to commit a crime, he was also charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, as a result of being found in possession of a bicycle. Fuller was also required to provide a sample of his DNA for inclusion in the State’s DNA Data Bank and to pay fines and surcharges. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff to begin serving his sentence.


The State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of the following overnight lane closures along Interstate 81 in the Town of Dickinson, Broome County, to facilitate pavement repairs. Beginning tonight at 8:00 PM, I-81 northbound will be reduced to two lanes of traffic between Exit 5 and the I- 88 interchange. All lanes are expected to reopen Thursday Morning. Also at 8:00 PM Thursday, I-81 southbound will be reduced to two lanes of traffic between Exit 5 and I-88 interchange, the lanes will re-open Friday Morning.


New York State had a record-setting 306.3 million visitors in 2023, while also setting new historic highs for direct visitor spending and total economic impact associated with the state's tourism industry. Visitors to New York State contributed to a record-high $88 billion in direct spending, and supported a historic $137 billion in total economic impact across the state. The number of visitors to the state surpass the highest numbers achieved prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

State Police & the Delaware County District Attorney’s office announced that a Delaware County Grand Jury has indicted 27 year old James Christ Jr. of Deposit for 2nd degree Murder, among other charges in connection with the death of a 3 year old child. The child’s mother, Marielys Ramos of Unadilla has been indicted on Reckless Endangerment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both are currently at the Delaware County Correctional Facility, pending arraignment. State Police arrested Christ in May, after they were dispatched to Fair Street in Deposit for the report of an unresponsive child, it was determined that Christ recklessly caused the death of the child.


State Police responded Sunday to Route 17C in Barton for a NYSEG utility pole broke that was attached to power lines. Power lines and a portion of the pole fell onto Route 17C, 3 people were injured. Troopers determined that a live wire fell onto the middle of the roadway when several motorcycles were coming down the roadway. The wire struck the passenger on the back of 1 motorcycle, the bike then overturned. The 62-year-old male driver and a 63-year-old female both of Athens, Pennsylvania were transported by ambulance to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. A 70-year-old male driver and a 79-year-old female passenger from Sayre, were on another motorcycle and in an attempt to avoid the bike in front of them, went off the roadway. The driver of that motorcycle was also transported to Packer Hospital.


State Police initiated a traffic stop on I-81 north in Cortlandville Sunday Night after observing a vehicle that did not have its rear taillights illuminated. After an investigation and a search of the vehicle, the Trooper located 110 bricks of heroin, Two containers of cannabis wax, cannabis & drug paraphernalia. Troopers arrested 25 year old Kenneth Williams of Syracuse, NY and 22 year old Kyrell Robinson of Syracuse, Both were charged with: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, both were processed and transported to the Cortland County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.

State Police responded Saturday Afternoon to a report of a single car crash with entrapment in the town of Franklin. 74 year old Gjeto Vulaj of Delhi was traveling south on County Highway 16 in a 2005 Jeep Wrangler, he went off the road into a ditch and his vehicle became engulfed in flames. Vulaj was trapped in the vehicle when a family member who was traveling behind him and another citizen attempted to remove him from the vehicle but they were unsuccessful. Vulaj was ultimately extricated by fire personnel from Franklin and Treadwell Fire Departments. He was transported to A.O Fox Hospital but did not survive. The family member who attempted to free Vulaj suffered smoke inhalation and burns. The investigation is continuing.


49 year old Keith Audette of Hamden was indicted for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs by the Delaware County Grand Jury last week. The Indictment alleges that on April 9th, Audette was driving in the Village of Walton while impaired by methamphetamines, he was previously convicted of operating a motor vehicle with .08 BAC in 2015 in Chenango County, where he was required to have an interlock device in any vehicle he operates. Audette was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle as well as driving without an Interlock Device, & he faces court action shortly.


37 year old Eric Black of Walton was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury last week on a 2 Count Indictment for Grand Larceny, he is accused of stealing 2 guns from his mother’s residence which were secured in locked storage cases. Black faces court action on the indictment shortly.


Delaware County Sheriff's Office continues to ask for the public's help in locating a stolen Bandit Wood-chipper from the area of BWS Road and Mill Brook Road in the Town of Middletown, sometime between June 3rd & 4th.
