Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced that they have submitted their Shared Services Initiative Plan to the Broome County Legislature. The plan was initiated earlier this year when Governor Cuomo called on municipalities to share services to lower property taxes, if approved, this plan has the potential to save Broome County over $20 Million Dollars. The plan can be viewed at gobroomecounty.co.broome.ny.us.
Actor Kelsey Grammer announced this week that his plans to operate a craft brewery in Delaware County should be opening soon. The former star of the hit sitcoms “Cheers" and "Frasier" has owned the land in the Margaretville Area for over 25 years, the Faith American Brewery will be located on the site of a former dairy farm in Margaretville, the brewery is still working out some details related to pollution controls. New York State now has more than 300 breweries with more than half opening in the last 5 years, according to the State Liquor Authority,
State Police arrested 56-year-old J.J. Yellen of Davenport, for 3rd degree Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. This arrest occurred after troopers were advised of a physical dispute in the town of Dryden, where Yellen allegedly pushed and grabbed a child, causing an injury to his neck. Yellen was arraigned in the town of Dryden court, and was released without bail required. The court issued an order of protection against him; Yellen’s next court date is on August 22nd.
Lawmakers from both major parties were not pleased with President Trump's statements to the Wall Street Journal this week. Trump was quoted as saying that Upstate New York residents should just leave, and head to states where there are not enough people for existing manufacturing jobs, like Wisconsin. Local Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who normally supports Trump, released a statement, saying that she hoped Trump’s comments were taken out of context, that Upstate has a rich history of manufacturing, and policies must be implemented to revive the region. Democratic Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, who is challenging Tenney for the 22nd district seat next year, said President Trump should be doing what he promised and help create American jobs here at home."
State Health Officials & the DEC are taking steps to make sure that everyone knows the risks regarding harmful algae blooms in ponds & lakes in state parks. The blue-green algae blooms poison the water with toxins, which can disrupt liver and nervous system function and cause skin irritation in people, pets and wildlife. Officials said that Dogs are especially susceptible because they often drink from ponds and lakes, they suggest that if your dog goes into a lake with algae, hose them off so they don’t try to bathe themselves and end up eating it.
The State Department of Transportation announced today that they are seeking individuals to apply for jobs online at dot.ny.gov/jobs/perm_positions. DOT Officials in the Southern Tier are looking to add personnel quickly following the closing this week of State Route 17 in Tioga County, where flash flooding took out chunks of land supporting a bridge that carried the highway over a bridge in the Nichols area, officials are hoping to have the bridge repaired by the Labor Day weekend.
State Police arrested 3 individuals after a traffic stop on State Route 41 in the town of Afton Sunday. Charged were 24 year old Cecily Choi of New Jersey, 20 year old Adrian Beall of Texas & 37 year old Jason Rodriguez of Brooklyn. All 3 subjects are accused of possessing numerous narcotics & marihuana, they were charged with 3 counts each of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal use of Drug paraphernalia, Rodriguez was also charged with the misdemeanor of Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Drugs. They were arraigned in the Town of Afton court and remanded to the Chenango County jail without bail.
A Roxbury man and woman were arrested by Delaware County Sheriff's Office Investigators on felony drug possession charges Monday following a probation search that led to the seizure of approximately one hundred (100) grams of powder and crack cocaine, over eleven hundred dollars ($1100.00) cash and a number of fireworks. Sheriff’s Investigators arrested and charged 30 year old David Dykstra and 33 year old Lisa Skala on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks. Dykstra was being supervised by the Delaware County Probation Department from a 2016 conviction in New Jersey. Dykstra and Skala were arraigned & were remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $150,000 bail pending further court action.
Binghamton Police announced that Amie Lewis died Wednesday morning, from injuries sustained in a recent hit & run accident. Lewis was struck Friday night while crossing Main Street in Binghamton, 45 year old Matthew Wood of Greene was arrested Monday for leaving the scene of a MVA with injuries, & more charges are expected.
Governor Cuomo announced that he is directing the Traffic Safety Committee to examine the "Textalyzer" technology, which is being developed to determine if a motorist was texting while driving at the time of a crash. Cuomo said that committee will try to determine if the device can stand up to privacy & constitutionality questions that are being raised. Cuomo said that many state drivers are still using hand held devices while driving, in violation of state laws.

New Yorkers are invited to vote for their favorite New York craft brewery, The 5 with the most votes will be invited to attend the final Taste New York Inaugural Craft Beer Challenge Tasting Event in New York City, where a panel of all-star judges will decide the winner. Voting is taking place at taste.ny.gov/craft-beer-challenge
The Next Meeting of the General Clinton canoe Regatta committees will be held tonight at the Highway 7 Bar and Grill in Bainbridge. At 6:30, the Race Committee Meeting will begin, followed at 7:30 PM with the Regular meeting. Information about the regatta is available at canoeregatta.org
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said that she is ruling out a run for president in 2020, as she is focused on running for re-election for her US Senate seat in 2018. Gillibrand had to speak on the subject again yesterday in the North Country; she gave the same answer as she has since the beginning of the year, when reporters suggested that she could be a viable Democratic Party candidate for the Presidential race in 2020.
The annual Big Wheels Golf Tournament, held at the Delhi College Golf Course, will take place on Friday, May 12th. The event serves as a primary fundraiser for programs and services which provide assistance to Delaware County senior citizens. NYSEG reports power outages throughout the region from last night's powerful storm, with crews working to restore power as quickly as possible. A state of emergency was declared in Broome County by County Executive Jason Garnar; Broome County had over 13,000 customers without power this afternoon, Chenango County had over 5100 without power, Delaware County had over 1600 & Otsego County had over 2300 without power.
The Town Of Oneonta will hold 2 public meetings this week to provide residents with information about an energy delivery program that may save residents money on their energy bill. The program, Community Choice Aggregation is a new State program, which has authorized communities to join to together to aggregate the purchase of electricity in hopes of getting better prices for the residents. The first informational meeting is today at the Oneonta Town Hall from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, the second meeting is on Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Foxcare Center.
The New York State Senate passed a bill that would strengthen Kendra's Law and make it permanent. The bill enhances improves the quality and effectiveness of care provided to the mentally ill, and prevents Kendra's Law from expiring on June 30th. Kendra's Law was first enacted in 1999 after Kendra Webdale was pushed in front of a subway train by a man with untreated schizophrenia in New York City. The bill has been sent to the Assembly for consideration.
A free entrepreneur workshop, "Startup Tactics," will be held today from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Oxford Academy Primary School multipurpose room. Brad Treat of the Southern Tier Startup Alliance will lead the presentation. Governor Cuomo today signed legislation enacting the Excelsior Scholarship to provide tuition-free college at New York’s public universities to families making up to $125,000 a year.

The legislation was passed as part of the State Budget, the Budget additionally includes $8 million to provide open educational resources, including e-books, to students at SUNY and CUNY colleges to help defray the cost of textbooks.
State Police Superintendent George Beach announced that the State Police have launched a new recruiting effort to attract qualified candidates to become State Troopers. The State Police will be holding a new Trooper entrance examination this fall, on October 7th, 14th. 21st & 28th at several locations around the state. Online applications are now being accepted at nytrooper.com.
The State DEC reminds residents that a statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14th. DEC officials said that the lack of snow cover over much of the state and rising temperatures in the forecast means that conditions are favorable for the rapid spread of wildfires.
The General Clinton Canoe Regatta Hall of Fame Committee announced this year's 6 inductees, Spokesman Greg Davie told WCDO News who this year's recipients are:

Hartwick College and SUNY Oneonta announced that the OH-Fest on Saturday April 22nd. This year, there will be a street fair from 1:00 to 5:00 PM on Main Street; there will be a free concert in Neahwa Park from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM featuring Jesse McCartney.

The panel will be comprised of the Mayor or Supervisor from each city, town and village in Broome County. The first meeting of the Shared Services panel will be Thursday, April 13 at 10:00 AM at Cornell Cooperative Extension on Front Street; the public is invited to make recommendations at three public meetings. The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 20th in the Decker Room of the Broome County Library from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. If the plan is approved it will be presented to the public in September 2017.
The Otsego County Planning Department is hosting a FREE training program tonight for members of planning boards and zoning boards of appeals. The workshop will be held at the Otsego County MEADOWS OFFICE COMPLEX, County Highway 33w, in Cooperstown.

Officers located and seized $2,834.00 in cash, plus, cocaine, marijuana, digital scales, materials used to package narcotics and a counterfeit $20.00 bill. 37 year old Shupin Cooper was charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia & Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Cooper was arraigned in the City of Binghamton Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
