Oneonta Fire Department responded to a fire at the Motel 88 on Chestnut Street Thursday afternoon.  The fire was started in an unoccupied room, 2 adjacent rooms suffered damage, it was knocked down in less than an hour, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.


Edmeston Central School announced that they had over 25% of the school quarantined due to COVID-19.  The Edmeston District went to remote learning Thursday & will stay remote through next Friday, in-person learning will start again on Tuesday, January 18th.  All after school activities and games have been postponed.


Binghamton Police are investigation the shooting of an 18 year old Binghamton High School Male Student, near the High School Thursday morning at about 11:15.  The victim was taken to an area hospital, the School district implemented lockdowns at all buildings, Binghamton Police arrested a 17 year old suspect for attempted murder & criminal use of a fire arm, the investigation is ongoing.


New Yorkers will again have the chance to apply for pandemic rental aid and temporary protection from eviction.  A State Supreme Court Judge issued a preliminary injunction ordering New York to reopen its application portal at otda.ny.gov, for rent relief in 3 business days. The state stopped accepting rental assistance applications in November.  The ruling protects families vulnerable to eviction when New York’s statewide moratorium expires January 15th.


State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to spend the gift cards they received this holiday season in a timely fashion, if not the money could eventually get turned over to the Office of Unclaimed Funds. In the last 7 years, the amount returned to DiNapoli’s office in unused gift cards has risen sharply from $5.8 million in 2014 to $16 million in 2021.  After five years of dormancy, money from unused gift cards issued by New York businesses is turned over to the Office of Unclaimed Funds as abandoned property.


New York’s Independent Redistricting Commission met January 3 to approve new maps that would shape those districts for the next 10 years, but ended the meeting with two separate proposals.  The Commission sent its 2 plans to lawmakers for consideration during the 2022 session.

State Police released more details about Wednesday arrest of 29 year old Anthony Masi of Sidney, who was wanted for 1st degree Assault in Oneonta on December 30 & also charged for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property,  Sidney Police Department spotted Masi in a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop him, he failed to comply and fled from Sidney Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on State Route 8 in the town of Masonville, Troopers attempted to stop Masi, who again failed to comply, he was stopped on State Highway 17 in Hancock and was taken into custody.  Masi was processed on the Stolen Property charge, was arraigned & was released & ordered to appear in Hancock Village Court at a later date; he was then turned over to troopers, was arraigned on the Assault charge & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $50,000 bail or $500,000 bond.


The State Health Department & the Governor's Office announced that the Omicron Variant of COVID 19 continues to spread quickly.  Over 377,000 were tested Wednesday, with 84,202 positives, for a 22.3% positivity rate.  Patient Hospitalization increased by 317 to 11,184, Patients in ICU bed were up to just over 1,400 with 695 on ventilators and 130 New deaths reported by healthcare facilities from COVID.


SUNY Oneonta will host one of the state’s 10 new COVID-19 community testing sites,  which opens today,  in the training room of the college’s new Emergency Services Building, located at the lower end of campus, and is open to anyone in the community who is experiencing mild to moderate COVID symptoms. Appointments are required and must be scheduled in advance. Testing, which is saliva-based, is provided at no cost to individuals. The site will be open from 8:30 am to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The Oneonta site is scheduled to operate through the end of February.  Appointments for testing at the Oneonta site can be scheduled at bit.ly/covid-test-oneonta.


OTSEGO COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES announced that KN95 masks will be made available, FREE for distribution to the public, beginning today at the American Legion COVID test site in the Village of Milford, located at 86 West Main Street in Milford, as well as the SUNY Oneonta COVID test site.  An additional distribution site is being established at the Richfield Springs Fire Department in the coming week.


Delaware County is 1 of 6 counties in New York State chosen to receive support from the State Health Department to conduct COVID vaccination clinics. Personnel from The State and the National Guard will support the county operated clinics beginning today in Sidney at the Sidney Elks Lodge on River Street from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, as well as on Saturday & January 28th and 29th. The second clinic will be in Stamford at the Catskill Veterans Outreach Center, from 11AM-7PM, on January 14th, 15th & February 4th and 5th. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced that this year's manager will be Reid Brignac, who retired as a major league player in 2018.  The Pitching Coach will be Jerome Williams who pitched in the majors for 11 seasons, the Hitting Coach will be Tommy Joseph, who played with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016 & 2017, and Bench Coach is Mariano Duncan, who played on championship teams in Cincinnati in 1990 & the NY Yankees in 1996.

Bassett Healthcare Network is holding a COVID-19 vaccine and flu vaccine clinic at the Edmeston Central School gymnasium on Saturday, January 15th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Vaccinations offered include the Pfizer and Moderna 1st, 2nd, and booster shots; Pediatric Pfizer COVID Vaccines, as well as Flu shots; the event is open to the public. In the last two days Delaware County has had a surge of positive covid-19 cases with 98 new positive cases on Tuesday & 121 Positives on Wednesday, there was 1 more COVID 19 death attributed to the virus. Delaware County Public Health announced that a limited number of COVID test kits for the public, have arrived from the State, the Office of Emergency Services is distributing the allotments to town offices. Firefighters from Oneonta, Franklin & other surrounding communities responded this afternoon to a fire at the Motel 88 at 340 Chestnut Street in Oneonta. The fire was under control in a little more than an hour, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

State Police took 29 year old Anthony Masi into custody Wednesday afternoon on an arrest warrant for 1st Degree Assault. The warrant stems from a serious assault that occurred in Oneonta after Masi allegedly attacked a victim with a machete-type knife at the Budget Inn on State Route 23 on December 30th, the investigation is continuing.


Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for people 18 and older on Today at 97 Main Street, Delhi. Moderna 1st or 2nd doses will only be available from 2:00 to 4:00 PM for walk-ins only. Police in Cobleskill arrested 53 year old Raymond George for 1st degree manslaughter, for allegedly driving his vehicle into the Colonial Motel Tuesday, killing fellow Motel resident James Williams, following an argument.  Police reported that 2 dogs were also killed in the incident, 11 people were displaced due to the structural damage to the building.  George was arrested shortly after the incident nearby, Police determined that Williams had been sitting on a bench outside his room with his dogs, when he was struck; he was trapped in the wreckage and was pronounced dead at the scene. George was arraigned and ordered held without bail.  State Police, Schoharie County Sheriff's Department, the Schoharie County District Attorney’s Office and state corrections officials assisted with the investigation.


According to preliminary figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor, the number of private sector jobs in New York State increased over the month by 17,500, or 0.2%, to 7,459,100 in May 2021. By comparison, the number of private sector jobs in the U.S. increased by 0.4% in May 2021.  New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 8.2% to 7.8% in May 2021.


US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand introduced the Senior Financial Empowerment act, to try to streamline the reporting by seniors, of phone & Email scams designed to steal their personal financial information:

Senator Gillibrand stated that Millions of seniors across the country are victims of financial scams and abuse every year, with scams related to COVID-19 alone costing consumers more than $460 million.  New York State seniors lose as much as $1.5 billion per year to financial fraud and abuse.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Joseph Santiago of Burlington following a traffic stop in the Town of Burlington on June 7th.   Santiago was charged with Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument & Criminal Possession Controlled Substance.  The Investigation revealed that Santiago, who was a passenger in the stopped vehicle, was wanted on an active bench warrant issued out of the Town of New Lisbon court, he was found to be in possession of numerous narcotics during the stop.  Santiago was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on the bench warrant; he faces action in Town of Burlington court June 21st.


The Otsego County Department of Health will be holding a Johnson and Johnson single dose COVID Vaccine clinic tomorrow.  The clinic will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Laurens Fire Department, for those 18 & older, no appointments are necessary; the clinic will be walk in only.


The Binghamton Rumble Ponies return to Binghamton to play a 4 game homestand starting tonight against Portland, at the newly renamed Mirabito Stadium.  Team General Manager J.B. Frontier Communications reported 2 work vans missing from their property at 2 Oak Avenue in the Village of Sidney on Monday; the vans were recovered Tuesday in a wooded area outside the village.  Sidney Police Department, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and State Police executed a search warrant of 5 Division Street in Sidney Wednesday; they arrested 47 year old Brian Kingsbury of Sidney & 24 year old Nikita Crumb of Sidney for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.  Both were arraigned in the Village of Sidney court, Crumb was released on her own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date, Kingsbury was remanded to the Delaware County Jail. The investigation is on-going and more arrests are expected.


State Police continue to investigate a fatal hit and run involving a vehicle that struck 2 bicyclists on Route 26 in Cincinnatus.   The deceased bicyclist is identified as 67 year old Kitt Warren of De Ruyter; the injured bicyclist is identified as 67 year old John Rutan of McGraw, who was taken to Upstate Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.  2 other bicyclists were not injured and are identified as a 34-year-old female of Greene, and a 64-year-old male of Cincinnatus.  The operator of the vehicle did not stop; the vehicle was located by a Cortland County Sheriff’s Deputy in the Town of Willet. The investigation is on-going; more will be released when it is available.


State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 14-year-old Anjelia Sturtevant was last seen at her residence in the town of Roseboom on Monday night.    Anjelia was last seen wearing a pink camouflage pull over sweatshirt with a hood and may be carrying a white colored makeup bag with a gray pattern.  Anjelia is 5’ 2" and weighs approximately 190 pounds.  She has brown eyes and brown hair & multiple piercings. Afton Fire fighters responded to a Commercial Building Fire at 175 Main Street last night, at the new Gavin's Pizza location that opened earlier that day.  Afton received assistance from Harpursville, Masonville, Bainbridge & Coventry.  Fire was located in the wall of the building, & was knocked down quickly; Mike Gavin told WCDO News that he hopes to be re-opening sometime next week.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 21 year old Scott Sieger of Oneonta following an investigation into a Forged Check.   Sieger was charged with Forgery, criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminal Impersonation, for allegedly forging a stolen check in order to purchase a vehicle, he will appear in Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.

The Village of Sidney announced that the water will be shut off today from about 7:00 AM to 12:00 Noon on West Main Street between Sunset Avenue & Circle Drive.  Crews will be installing a new Water valve in that area at that time.


The Town of Unadilla reported that a few of their roads will be "briefly closed” today for chip sealing.  The affected roads are Butternut Road, Sand Hill Road, Lovers Lane, Rod and Gun Club Road & Leizear Hill Road.

Firefighters from Sidney, Wells Bridge & Unadilla responded, at about 8:30 this morning to the report of a structure fire at the County Motel on State Route 7.  The fire was largely contained to the a room at the east end of the motel structure & was under control by about 9:30, the investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing, 1 person was taken to the hospital for treatment, Sidney Fire Fighters also had to respond to a Chimney Fire this morning on Pleasant Street.


The number of COVID Hospitalizations statewide is 3,567; the Lowest number of Hospitalizations since November 29, 2020. There were 811 Patients in the ICU; Lowest ICU Patients Since December 3, 2020 & 499 on ventilators, there 45 COVID-19 Deaths in the State Wednesday.


Chenango County Public Health reported 13 new COVID cases today, bringing their total to 3138.  The number of Active Cases is 120, there are 599 Active Quarantines & 9 Hospitalized there have been 2855 Recoveries.


A covid vaccination CLINIC for Veterans, & their spouses, will be held tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in Bainbridge.  The clinic will be held at VA Outpatient Clinic at 109 North Main Street, more information or registration is available at 967-8590, option 1.


The Sidney United Way, Catholic Charities & other organizations announced that 77 Volunteers unloaded thousands of pounds in food, during the Community Mass Food Giveaway Tuesday in Sidney.  486 Households which included 1414 People received the food at the back of the River Street Fire Station.

Governor Cuomo announced today that People ages 60 and older in New York state don't have to make COVID vaccine appointments anymore.  The Governor announced that that age group can walk into any mass vaccination site starting Friday and get a shot, the closest site will be at SUNY Binghamton.


Delaware County Public Health reported 5 new Covid 19 Cases Wednesday out of 468 tested, or 1% of all tested.  Delaware County had 99 active cases, 13 hospitalized & 228 quarantined.

State Attorney General Letitia James today released a report on her office's ongoing investigations into nursing homes' responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. James said that a larger number of nursing home residents died from COVID-19 than the State Department of Health's published nursing home data reflected and may have been undercounted by as much as 50%, and that the Government guidance requiring the admission of COVID patients into nursing homes put all residents & staff at increased risk.  State Assemblyman Joe Angelino comments:

State Senator Peter Oberacker said that he thinks that The Governor Executive powers need to be scaled back or rescinded & that Health Department Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker needs to resign:

The investigations also revealed that nursing homes' lack of compliance with infection control protocols put residents at increased risk of harm, and facilities that had lower pre-pandemic staffing ratings had higher COVID-19 fatality rates. Attorney General James is conducting ongoing investigations into more than 20 nursing homes that had Insufficient personal protective equipment, insufficient COVID-19 testing for residents and staff,  & Governor Cuomo's state reimbursement model for nursing homes gave a financial incentive to owners of for-profit nursing homes to increase their own profit instead of investing in higher levels of staffing and PPE.


Bassett Healthcare Network & the state Department of Health, is offering free COVID-19 rapid testing in February at Oneonta Health Center at 125 Main Street specifically for individuals who have no symptoms of the virus, but who wish to be tested. Appointments are required at 433-6510, the testing will be offered Saturday, February 6th & Saturday, February 20th from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM


Chenango County Public Health reported 2 more COVID 19 deaths today, bringing their total up to 39.  The County reports 179 Active Cases, 512 Quarantines & 17 Hospitalizations.


The State Health Department reported Additional cases of the UK variant have been identified throughout New York State. The new cases have been found in Long Island, New York City, Westchester, Saratoga, Tompkins, Niagara, Onondaga, Essex and Warren Counties, bringing the statewide total to 42 known cases.


U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado announced the reintroduction of their "Rebuild Rural America Act” which would deliver federal resources directly to rural communities as they respond to, and recover from, the economic crisis caused by COVID-19, Congressman Delgado explained during a ZOOM press Conference this morning:

Gillibrand and Delgado said that they will urge their Congressional counterparts to include the Rebuild Rural America framework in the upcoming coronavirus Stimulus package in order to deliver at least $50 billion in direct relief to small towns and rural communities.


The Delaware County Board of Supervisors approved of the purchase of property to begin the construction of new Department of Public Works facilities.  Delaware County Public Works Commissioner Sue McIntyre comments:

McIntyre said that the projects will be going out for bid shortly; she said that the existing Page Avenue structure in Delhi is beyond the point of repair at a reasonable cost to County Taxpayers.

Chenango County Public Health administered 615 doses of Moderna vaccine; they began with the first eligible groups, which included doctors, nurses, as well as law enforcement, fire personnel, EMS & adult care facilities.  Clinics were also held at the Broad Street Methodist Church & Bartle’s Pharmacy in Oxford.


The Sidney Central School District reported 2 positive COVID-19 cases, 1 teacher and 1 Kindergarten student have tested positive. The last time the student was on campus was Wednesday, January 20th.  The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and the contact tracing has been completed. There will be no change to the instructional model at this time. The exposure has been minimized in this case


Delaware County Public Health reported 15 new COVID cases Wednesday; they report 20 hospitalizations, 163 active cases & 329 quarantined.


Otsego County Health Department reported 20 new COVID cases Wednesday, with 17 hospitalized & 1 new death reported.  The County has had 9 deaths since January 1st & 28 since last spring.


State Police are looking to connect unclaimed items with their rightful owners.  Last August, the items were discovered in possession of individuals that were arrested at a motel in Oneonta, Troopers believe that the items were taken from storage units, sheds or possibly vehicles last summer in the Oneonta area.  The items include jewelry, electronics, tools and household items.   State Police are inviting anyone who believes they may have items taken to stop by the barracks at 199 Oneida Street; Oneonta on Wednesday, February 3rd between 1:00 & 3:00 PM, more information is available at 432-3211.

State Police are investigating a
death at a suspicious Fire in Worcester. Troopers were dispatched shortly
before 9:00 p.m. last night, to a fire in the town of Worcester, Police located
a deceased subject inside the residence, the investigation is on-going and more
details will be released later today.


Daniel Butash of Endicott was
sentenced in Broome County Court this morning, following a guilty plea for
aggravated vehicular Assault.  Butash was
arrested after he was driving the wrong way on State Route 17 & crashed
into the patrol vehicle driven by Deputy Kristy Botsford in February, he will
serve 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.


Restorations are continuing at
Damaschke Field in Oneonta, as the Grandstand demolition is underway this
week.  The project is expected to be
completed over the next Several Months, new concrete will be poured soon, &
new seats are expected to be installed by next May,  box seats & The dugouts are being
rebuilt, all the work is expected to be completed by the May 15th start of the
Oneonta Outlaws baseball season.


Former WCDO personality Wayne Robert
King has passed away at the age of 62.
King had the 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM shift from the mid 80's to the late
90’s; he had been operating the Country Motel on State Route 7 in recent
years.  Funeral arrangements are being
handled by CH Landers Funeral Home.


The Annual "Taste
of the Catskills" will be held at Maple Shade farms in the town of Delhi
Saturday & Sunday.  More than 100

State Police are asking the public’s
help to locate 44 year old Jesse Donlin, who has been missing since early
September.  Donlin was last seen in the
Oxford area and has not been heard from since.
He is described as a white male, 5’7” feet tall, approximately 165
pounds, with light brown shoulder length hair and brown eyes.   Donlin has ties to Sidney, Unadilla, Morris,
Afton as well as Binghamton, Utica & the Capital District.  Anyone with information about Donlin’s

millions of retirees will get a 1.6% cost of living increase in 2020, which
amounts to about $24 a month for the average retired worker.  The Cost of Living Increase affects about 1
in 5 households, or about 70 million Social Security Recipients, Disable
Veterans & federal retirees.

State Police at Norwich are looking for tips in locating
26-year-old Amber Garrison of Smyrna, who was last seen at the Super 8 motel in
Norwich on August 9th, she has not had any contact with family since July
19th.  Garrison is a white female, 5'
7"; she may be driving a red 2012 Chevy Traverse with NY license Plates
HXK-6632.  Anyone with information is
asked to call State Police at Troop C in Sidney at 561-7400.


Governor Cuomo is proposing a new Law to specifically
penalize domestic terrorism a response to recent mass shootings across the
country targeting Hispanics, Jews, Gays and other, by home grown radicalized
white males.  Cuomo said that the bill
would penalize those committing mass shootings as hate crimes should face the
same penalties of life in prison without parole, as those who committed the
9/11 terrorist acts.  The bill could be
passed this year if Cuomo calls lawmakers back to Albany by the end of the
year, or he could wait for the start of next year's session in January.

The 133rd Delaware County Fair ends Saturday night after the
Fireworks display.


Delaware County Sheriff’s
department & State Police arrested 44 year old James Stiefel of Mount
Vision following the report of a domestic dispute Wednesday afternoon on Pine
Cliff Circle in Davenport.  Stiefel is
accused of forcibly entering the residence and threatening the occupant with a
knife before fleeing; he was found a short time later & taken into
custody.   Deputies discovered that
Stiefel possessed a portable methamphetamine laboratory at the Davenport
location, the State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team was
summoned & sheriff’s investigators obtained a search warrant.   Stiefel was charged with burglary, menacing,
criminal mischief, criminal possession of a weapon, and harassment as well as
several drug charges, he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail
pending further court action.


State Police arrested 60 year old Frank DiPasquale of
Sanford for DWI & Criminal Possession of Marihuana, after Troopers observed
DiPasquale failing to stop at a stop sign near Commercial Drive and Main Street
in the village of Afton.  DiPasquale was
processed and later released on appearance tickets to the town of Afton court
returnable on September 26th.


The Sunday Free Summer Concert Series continues in Afton
Sunday evening.  Kenyon Hill will perform
in front of the Afton Library, starting at 6:00 PM.


State Police arrested Edward Gagliano for DWI, after
Troopers observed Gagliano with no operating tail lights while on I-88 in the
town of Bainbridge.  Gagliano was
released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Bainbridge on
September 3rd, he was then turned over to a sober third party.


The 27th Chenango Bluesfest continues with a free
lineup tonight at the Fairgrounds in Norwich.

State Police arrested 20 year old Bradley Dixon Jr., of
Madison for DWI & Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, after Troopers observed
Dixon's vehicle partially off the roadway on County Route 36 in the town of
Guilford, Dixon was sleeping in the driver’s seat, with the car running.   Dixon was issued appearance tickets to the
town of Guilford court on Tuesday.


The A.O. Fox Hospital Foundation hosted its 20th Annual Golf
Classic at the Oneonta Country Club on June 24, bringing 27 donors and 140
golfers to raise funds for a new ultrasound machine in Fox’s department of
surgical services; they raised more than $50,000 this year.


State Police arrested 30 year
old Amber Snell of Bainbridge for Aggravated DWI with Child Less than 15 as
Passenger plus 4 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & several
other violations.   Snell was observed by
a Trooper on County Route 32 in the town of Oxford driving with 4 unrestrained
children in the back seat, she was arrested, & the children were turned
over to a sober 3rd party.  Snell was
arraigned in the town of Oxford court & was released on her own
recognizance and will reappear on July 8th.

State Police responded to the Depot Street fishing access at
the fork of the Chenango and Tioughnioga Rivers Thursday evening, following the
report stated that 3 kayakers were in distress, 2 kayakers were able to get out
of the river on their own but one kayaker was unconscious after his kayak
overturned.  The kayaker has been
identified as 72 year old Dennis Healey of Chenango Forks, CPR was attempted,
but Healey was pronounced dead.  The
investigation revealed that Healey was kayaking with a group of people, Healey
capsized and became entangled in debris, and an autopsy revealed that Healey
likely suffered a cardiac medical emergency.


State Police and local law enforcement agencies will
increase patrols to crack down on drunk and drugged driving and other traffic
infractions during the 4th of July holiday, through Friday, July 5th.  State Troopers will conduct sobriety
checkpoints and target reckless and aggressive driving statewide in an effort
to keep New York highways safe during one of the busiest summer holidays for
travel.  Last year, the State Police
issued nearly 10,500 vehicle and traffic tickets during the 4th of July
weekend. Troopers arrested 216 people for DWI and investigated 165 crashes,
which resulted in four fatalities and 244 injuries.


Chenango Sheriff’s department arrested 50 year old Randolph
Browning of Virginia for Criminal Sexual Act, Possessing a Sexual Performance
by a Child, Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, and
Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Detectives arrested Browning Jr. following a complaint of an older man
looking for a room at a local Motel to bring a female victim under the age of
16. Detectives found that Browning had sexual contact with a child less than 16
years old and also possessed child pornography.
Browning is currently being held at the Chenango County Correctional
Facility on other charges and is awaiting his court date.

Chenango County Emergency Officials are dealing with a
number of road problems from flash flooding, following heavy downpours over the
last several days.  Norwich, Oxford,
Smithville, McDonough & Pharsalia have had numerous issues; damage was
extensive around Oxford, including the school grounds, road closures in Oxford
include Vroman Hill Road, Midland Hill Road, plus Hoben, Ryan, Brooksbank &
Bradley Hill roads.  County officials
advise that motorist turn around if they encounter flooded roads, and contact
authorities immediately.


Oneonta Authorities had to close Main Street this morning
near Fox Hospital, for a reported Natural Gas leak.  The Oneonta Fire Department & NYSEG Crews
responded after a contractor's crew member apparently hit a high pressure gas
line,  Main Street has been re-opened,
residents who were evacuated from their homes on Hudson and Otsego Street were
allowed to return to their homes, City Officials said that Roosevelt Avenue
will remain closed until further notice.


The State Senate passed a bill that eliminates the criminal
penalties for possessing small amounts of marijuana, but fines may still be
applied up to $50 for 1 ounce or less, or $200 for between 1 & 2
ounces.  The State Assembly voted to pass
the measure early this morning; Governor Cuomo is expected to sign it.  Lawmakers could not get enough votes to make
recreational marijuana legal.


The Chenango Sheriff's Department arrested 31 year old
Nicholas Redd of Norwich on several counts of criminal possession a controlled
substance, he allegedly possessed prescription medication, methamphetamine and
heroin during the traffic stop that occurred in the Town of Norwich, and he
faces court action at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig Dumond & the Delhi Fire
Department awarded local teenager Kayleigh Verspoor with The County Sheriff's
Department "Super Star" Award and the Delhi Fire Department's plaque
of recognition. On Sunday, May 26th, Verspoor rescued 2 canoeists who had
tipped over in Delta Lake in Rome while working as a counselor at Haven Camp
for disabled adults.

2 Norwich residents were arrested by the Chenango County
Sheriff’s Office for Criminal Trespass, Theft of Services, Criminal Possession
of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.  Deputies arrested 32 year old Scott Russell
& 22 year old Brooklyn Stout after a complaint from the Norwich Inn, both
are accused of using a stolen motel key to enter one of the motel rooms, they
stayed the night and did not pay for the room.
While in custody, a search uncovered Marihuana & a controlled
substance, both were released on appearance tickets for the Town of Norwich
court at a later date.


NYSEG will be conducting natural gas service and main work
located between 294 &297 Chestnut Street in the City of Oneonta.  A lane closure between Lewis Ave and Pearl St
will be necessary to provide safety for their crews as well as the public.


The Chenango County Health Department will hold another free
rabies clinic Saturday, for dogs, cats & Ferrets.  The Clinic will be held at the Greene
Veterinary Clinic from 12:30 to 1:30 PM>


The Delaware County Historical Association will hold 3 Civil
War battlefield reenactments over the weekend.
The event takes place at the Delaware County Historical Association on
Saturday and Sunday,  Lunch and other

25 year old Cody Franciscovich has been charged with 1st
degree murder, in connection with the death of his 8 month old daughter Ruby
last weekend.   Franciscovich was
arraigned this morning in Town of Tioga Court,
State Troopers responding to a report of a missing baby  Sunday morning at the Deep Well Motel, they
found Franciscovich naked near the motel, he eventually directed Troopers to a
pond where the baby was found.  She was
pronounced dead at Wilson Hospital.
Franciscovich was returned to the Tioga County Jail without bail pending
a felony hearing on Friday.


Rock in the Park has moved to the Chenango County

The New York State Senate passed a bill Tuesday to legalize
paid gestational surrogacy for couples who are unable to have their own
children.    The measure is part of a
package of bills along with LGBTQ rights, the elimination of the Gay or
Transgender Panic defense used in court cases for violent attacks against a gay
or transgender person,   the bill faces
an uncertain future in the state Assembly where there is opposition among key
Democratic Party majority members.


Appointments are filling up & volunteers are still
needed for the upcoming Greater Chenango Cares Event.  Chenango United Way Spokesperson Elizabeth

State Senator Fred Akshar released the results of his latest online surveys asking constituents to weigh in on a proposal to end religious and any other non-medical exemptions for vaccination for children attending school in New York State.   All 50 states require that students be vaccinated for diseases like measles, mumps, whooping cough, chickenpox and polio,  but 47 state including New York allow exemptions for religious reasons.  Measles cases nationwide have more than doubled from 2018 to over 1000 this year, with at least 850 cases in the New York City and Rockland County regions of New York.  The Survey Results in the 52nd Senate District show that 70% of respondents support removing all non-medical exemptions for vaccinations, Akshar said that the results from his district were similar to a recent Siena Poll, which showed 84% of New Yorkers statewide support ending the religious exemption for vaccinations.


The Guilford Town Board will meet tonight to discuss a
controversial Wind Farm proposal by Calpine, to place large Wind Turbines in
the town; Priscilla Welden is co-Chairperson of Concerned Citizens of Guilford
who are opposed to the High Bridge Wind Farm plans:

Tonight's Guilford town board meeting is expected to be well
attended, and the meeting has been moved to the Guilford Town Garage at 7:00 PM
to accommodate the larger attendance.


CID Entertainment, the production company that "had
been engaged to provide camping, travel packages and transportation for
Woodstock 50," has pulled out of the event.  Woodstock 50 principal Gregory Peck released
a statement announcing that festival organizers are in discussions with another
venue to host Woodstock 50 on August 16th-18th, and that they looked forward to
revealing the new location when tickets finally go on sale in the coming weeks.


The Sidney Central School District Board of Education has
named Eben Bullock as the district's new Superintendent.  Bullock served as the Sidney's high school
principal for the past 10 years, will succeed Dr. William Christensen, who is
leaving the district after more than 8 years at the helm.  Bullock was approved for a 3-year contract at
the Board of Education meeting Tuesday; he will begin the position on July 1.


Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced that he has
implemented a body worn camera program and has equipped his Patrol Deputies
with Axon Body Worn Cameras:

Sheriff Dumond said that the body cameras can also be a
valuable tool in the prosecution of criminal cases by supplementing a Deputy's
court testimony with audio and video evidence associated with an incident. The
Body Cameras are being deployed today after all Deputies received training.
