Several law enforcement agencies commented at a press conference in Binghamton today regarding the Fire at the Knight's Inn of Endwell June 22nd, State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Captain Lucas Anthony discussed the investigation & released the names of those deceased in Monday's Fire:

State Police arrested 24 year old Tyler Russell of Endwell, Monday for 6 counts of 2nd degree Manslaughter & 1 count of Arson, he is being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail pending Grand Jury action.
Norwich Police Department executed a search warrant at 41 Cortland Street following an investigation into the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics. 39 year old Shawn Utter of Norwich, & 24 year old Brittany Cox were charged with several Counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Nuisance & Conspiracy, Officers seized cash from suspected drug sales, drug measuring equipment, methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, various pills, & weapons, The Village of Sidney Police Department assisted on scene with their drug detecting K9 unit, Utter was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail pending further proceedings. Cox was processed and arraigned in Norwich City Court, where she was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail.
The FBI & the Johnson City Police Department arrested 69 year old Robert Randesi of Johnson City on federal drug & weapons charges after the execution of search warrant at a warehouse style building in Johnson City. Officers located over 20 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, quantities of marijuana, approximately $24,000 in cash, several firearms including AR-15 style rifles, ghost guns, firearm parts and ammunition, plus machinist tools and metal fabricating equipment consistent with tools used to construct or mill firearms & their parts. Randesi is currently in the Broome County Jail, He faces court action for both state and federal charges.
The State DOT announced the start of the $7 million Southside Oneonta Safety and Mobility Improvement Project, which will reduce traffic congestion and enhance pedestrian access along the State Route 23 and State Route 28 corridor. The project includes extended turning lanes, a new sidewalk and an additional pedestrian crosswalk, ADA-compliant curb ramps, plus 2 new bus stops for Oneonta Public Transit users, construction will be continuing through the fall of 2027.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Mark Andrews of Schenevus, for DWI, Refusal to take Breath Test, Failure to Keep Right, Driving on slopes and shoulders and Speed not reasonable and prudent following a 1 car property damage motor vehicle accident in the Town of Middlefield. Andrews was processed and released & will appear in Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.
State Police arrested 41 year old Donatello Lazarati of Baldwinsville for Grand Larceny, after an investigation revealed that Lazarati was working with the Assigned Counsel Program in Chenango County, Lazarati submitted duplicate billing to Chenango County for the same legal services and accepted payment. Chenango County sustained a financial loss of approximately $4,700. Lazarati was arrested was arrested, and was turned over to members of Troop C, he was processed & then transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
38 year old Ronald Boerner of Andes pleaded guilty in the Town of Andes Court to Driving While Impaired by Drugs and was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge, he will be required to attend a Victim Impact Panel, Impaired Driver’s Program and his license will be revoked for at least six months., if he violates any terms or conditions of his conditional discharge, he could be re-sentenced to 1 year in jail. On October 15, 2025, State Police responded to a 2 car accident in Andes, they found that a vehicle was rear-ended when turning into a parking lot, Boerner failed Field Sobriety Tests and was arrested.
The Chenango County Historical Society is collaborating with Commerce Chenango to host the annual Summer Barn Party from 5 to 7 pm. on June 25 at 43 Rexford Street. Historical Society Executive Director Jessica Moquin said that they will also be trying to raise funds during the events:

Delaware County Public Health will hold their next free rabies clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets in Roxbury today from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Highway Garage on State Highway 30. Pre-registration is suggested at health.ny.gov/go2clinic, more information about rabies is available at 607-832-5200.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 55 year old Vladimir Suprunchik of Utica, for DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Moving from a lane Unsafely & among other charges, following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Unadilla, Suprunchik was located at the scene of the accident, he did not possess a valid driver’s license, he was processed on Appearance Tickets for Unadilla Town Court at a later date.
The US Food and Drug Administration announced 2 more recalls. Over 400,000 Pounds of Raww Energy Beef and Turkey Medley Dog food from New Jersey is being recalled due to possible Listeria contamination. Raaw Energy dog food is sold online and consumers are advised to go to their website for details of the recall. Also, Morning Star Farms has voluntarily recalled its Buffalo Chikn’n Nuggets and Hot and Spicy Sausage Patties, which may contain plastic in the food. FDA-recorded recalls hit a 9-year high this year with 571 recalls, primarily for bacterial contamination, to see which products are affected visit FDA.org.
The National Weather Service announced that they have already confirmed 6 tornadoes this year, after last Thursday's 2 confirmations in Cortland & in Yates County. The first tornado of 2026 in New York State was confirmed as an EF-1 in Cattaraugus County on March 31st, the 5 additional Tornadoes were in Upstate or Western New York Counties so far. Since 1990, the average has been 16.5 per year, with a record 25 tornadoes occurring in 1992.

Russell was processed and was turned over to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment. Additional information, including the identities of the victims, will be released at a later time.
An Otsego County Grand Jury found 34-year-old Ryan Clark of Unadilla, also known as Tyler Clark, was guilty of rape, criminal sexual act and course of sexual conduct against a child. Clark's victims were under the ages of 15 and 13. Sentencing will be in Otsego County Court at a later date.
Today is Primary Election day around the State. Democrats will vote statewide for the Comptroller candidate between long time incumbent Tom DiNapoli and challengers Drew Warshaw and Raj Goyle. Locally Democrats in the 102nd Assembly District will decide between 3 candidates, Thomas Boomhower, Janet Tweed & Mary Finneran. Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the successful use of Thermal Imaging Drone Aids in Locating Missing Person Sunday night. Deputies responded to a call of a missing vulnerable adult in the Town of Edmeston, Deputies quickly initiated a coordinated search & they deployed a Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aerial System equipped with thermal imaging technology, Using the drone’s advanced capabilities, deputies successfully located the individual in a field. The K-9 team and responding deputies found the missing person, who was suffering from hypothermia and complaining of hip pain. The victim was taken to Bassett Medical Center for further evaluation.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Johnathon Brezinsky of Sidney for Promoting prison contraband at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Investigators were notified by Correctional Facility Staff that an Inmate was found to be in possession of dangerous contraband within the Facility, Brezinsky was arrested, arraigned and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 dollars cash bail, $20,000 dollars partially secured bond, and he faces court action shortly.
State Police arrested 39 year old Joshua Skobern of Johnson City after an investigation into an arson at self-service car wash in Endicott. Skobern was charged with Criminal Mischief, 5th degree Arson after Troopers responded to Enviro Auto Wash on Watson Boulevard for damage that occurred on April 12, to a car wash payment kiosk. An investigation determined that Skobern punched the payment kiosk then struck it with a spray wand and then used a lighter to burn the face-plate, causing damage. Troopers located Skobern at his residence. He was taken into custody and was processed and was issued appearance tickets to the Union Town Court on April 28.
Delaware Opportunities is contracted to run the County Senior meals program at 6 locations, plus with deliveries, funded through state and federal subsidies, during contract negotiations with the County, officials determined that the program is not sustainable at the current costs, on Tuesday, the County Board of Supervisors Office for the Aging oversight committee moved to provide for a pro-rated contract with Delaware Opportunities to expire on December 31, then in 2027 the Senior Meals program would be administered through the county rather than a 3rd party. If Delaware Opportunities ceases operation immediately, Delaware County would continue the service without interruption as a County-run program, through the Office for the Aging, with no change to site or staff.
UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, in partnership with the Norwich Family YMCA, will host a free educational program tonight focused on helping baseball and softball players stay strong, and injury-free throughout the season. UHS Spokesperson Melissa Stagnaro explains:

Norwich Police executed a search warrant Friday on East Main Street & Arrested 52 year old Delf King, following a Chenango County Court indictment. King was charged with 3 counts of Burglary, Attempted Robbery, and 2nd & 3rd degree Assault. King was arraigned on the charges & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $40,000 bail, pending future court action.
The online auction for the Grand Union Plaza at 54 East Main Street in Norwich, began Monday, with a starting bid of $500,000. Norwich Mayor Robert Jeffrey told WCDO News that they are talking to grocery industry people & federal & state lawmakers to try to get interest in the site:

The grocery store at that location closed with little advance warning recently, leaving downtown Norwich without easy access to groceries, and adding to the unemployment rate in the region when all of the workers were let go.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced that 10 projects and individuals have been recognized with 2026 New York State Historic Preservation Awards. Locally, the MARK Project of Arkville, will receive the Joan K. Davidson Award, They have spent over 40 years advancing community revitalization in the central Catskills through collaborative, locally driven initiatives and becoming a model for community-based revitalization, uniting local leaders, residents, and funding partners, through initiatives in affordable housing, economic development, local MARK PROJECTfood systems, tourism, farming, civic planning, and downtown revitalization.
The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce announced their 2026 Annual Award Winners, the Business of the Year is Unalam, the Eugene A. Bettiol Jr. Distinguished Citizen is Jamie Reynolds, the Leadership Otsego Alumni is Allen Ruffles & the Volunteer of the Year is Adam Stoutenberg, they will be honored at the Chambers annual Dinner on May 14th.

State Police will participate in a national distracted driving enforcement campaign as part of April’s National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The “Put the Phone Away or Pay,” will run from Today, through Monday, April 13th. Troopers will conduct targeted enforcement details focused on drivers using electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 3,200 people were killed in distraction-affected crashes in the United States in 2024. During the April 2025 “Put the Phone Away or Pay” campaign, New York State Troopers issued 22,867 tickets, including 4,607 for distracted driving violations.
Patrick Shea was sentenced to 7 years in state prison and 5 years of post-release supervision for 4th Degree Arson and 2nd Degree Manslaughter, in connection with the February 2025 fire at 1 Main Street in Binghamton, that led to the death of Firefighter JR Gaudet, who was trapped under debris while battling the blaze, he later died at Wilson Hospital, Shea pleaded guilty to the charges in January.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced a new 2 count indictment against 31 year old David Gensler of Delhi, who remains held in the Delaware County Jail on previous indictments for using a child in a sexual performance, disseminating indecent materials to minors, Rape, Sexual abuse, among other charges, the new indictments alleges bribing a witness & Criminal Contempt for attempting to pay a witness to testify in court, that party had an order of protection against Gensler.

An investigation at the scene revealed that a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze was traveling west at an unsafe speed while on State Highway 23 in the town of Oneonta when the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a house. The 18-year-old male operator from Schenevus was transported to A.O. Fox Hospital to be treated. Impairment was not a factor in the crash. 2 residents inside the home at the time of the crash were not injured.

Payton Gendron of Conklin appeared in court today seeking to have his federal trial moved from Buffalo to New York City. Gendron murdered 10 people in a Buffalo area TOPS supermarket in 2022, Gendron is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole from his State trial, he still faces a federal trial in which prosecutors are pursuing the death penalty. Also, Gendron's parents have reached settlements with the attorneys representing the victims families & the survivors, The gun shop, Vintage Firearms formerly of Endicott, settled lawsuits for selling the AR-15 to Gendron that was used in the murders, Means LLC settled a lawsuit for falsely advertised about magazine locks used by Gendron, claiming that they complied with New York State Gun laws.
59 year old Brian Gill of Andes, pleaded guilty to social security fraud in US District Court, Gill admitted that between January 2021 and November 2023, he was collecting social security disability benefits, while managing and engaging in physical labor for a tree services company he owned and operated. Sentencing is scheduled for May 21, Gill faces a maximum sentence of 5 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. As part of his plea deal, Gill agreed to pay restitution for the funds he fraudulently collected to the Social Security Administration.

Gaudet, who died when the building collapsed on him. Shea is expected to serve 7 years in prison as part of a plea bargain arrangement.
The State Department of Motor Vehicles will launch a new technology system, All DMV offices will close at 2:00 PM today, with online and phone services also unavailable during the transition. DMV operations are expected to fully resume on Wednesday.

Governor Kathy Hochul today issued a State of Emergency ahead of extreme cold and a massive winter storm set to impact areas statewide this weekend. We'll have the complete Tri-County Forecast at the end of this news cast.
Delaware County partnered with local towns and villages, fire departments and EMS & they deployed 10 weather stations across the county to monitor various weather conditions. The data being collected is transmitted through a third party contractor to a server used by the national weather service to help with forecasting, issuance of weather alters and tracking climate change. Delaware County Planning Director Shelly Johnson Bennett comments:

A Deputy encountered 49-year-old Amy Slater of Fleischmanns, Slater made admissions to the Deputy, regarding her setting her residence on fire. Multiple fire departments responded Upon conclusion of the investigation, Slater was arrested and charged with Arson and Criminal Mischief, Slater was arraigned and released pending her appearance in the Town of Middletown Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 people on a variety of felony charge. On December 15th, deputies responded to a burglary complaint in the Town of Binghamton, they found fresh footprints in the snow, signs of a break-in and smoke billowing from inside the house due to an active fire. State Police & Binghamton Fire Department responded, Deputies followed footprints and found evidence of stolen items, they used a drone to & located 37 year old Anthony Storti of Conklin, who was found to be in possession of narcotics, the investigation uncovered that Storti had been in the residence, left a vape behind and he set a fire inside. 24 year old Allyson Russell of Endicott, was identified as an accomplice in the burglary and arson. Both were charged with a host of felonies including Burglary, Arson criminal possession of a weapon, Grand Larceny & criminal possession of a controlled substance, they face court action shortly.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 44 year old Luis Calixto of Norwich, following a complaint from a local business regarding a larceny in progress. Calixto allegedly removed items from their packaging and attempted to conceal them and attempted to avoid store personnel and law enforcement. Deputies discovered that Calixto was in possession of small wax envelopes containing a white powder-like substance, as well as a small canister containing a white crystal-like substance, he was processed and arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail on charges of Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Mischief and Tampering with Physical Evidence
Trout Creek Fire Department responded at about 11:20 Tuesday morning for a tractor trailer into a house. Nobody was home at the residence and that the driver of the truck was not injured. Masonville Volunteer Fire Department, State DOT, State Police, Delaware County Sheriff's Office, NYSEG and a code enforcement officer also responded, State Highway 206 was closed, All units were back in service around 3:30 PM.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 people on a variety of felony charge. On December 15th, deputies responded to a burglary complaint in the Town of Binghamton, they found fresh footprints in the snow, signs of a break-in and smoke billowing from inside the house due to an active fire. State Police & Binghamton Fire Department responded, Deputies followed footprints and found evidence of stolen items, they used a drone to & located 37 year old Anthony Storti of Conklin, who was found to be in possession of narcotics, the investigation uncovered that Storti had been in the residence, left a vape behind and he set a fire inside. 24 year old Allyson Russell of Endicott, was identified as an accomplice in the burglary and arson. Both were charged with a host of felonies including Burglary, Arson criminal possession of a weapon, Grand Larceny & criminal possession of a controlled substance, they face court action shortly.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 44 year old Luis Calixto of Norwich, following a complaint from a local business regarding a larceny in progress. Calixto allegedly removed items from their packaging and attempted to conceal them and attempted to avoid store personnel and law enforcement. Deputies discovered that Calixto was in possession of small wax envelopes containing a white powder-like substance, as well as a small canister containing a white crystal-like substance, he was processed and arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail on charges of Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Mischief and Tampering with Physical Evidence
Trout Creek Fire Department responded at about 11:20 Tuesday morning for a tractor trailer into a house. Nobody was home at the residence and that the driver of the truck was not injured. Masonville Volunteer Fire Department, State DOT, State Police, Delaware County Sheriff's Office, NYSEG and a code enforcement officer also responded, State Highway 206 was closed, All units were back in service around 3:30 PM.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced more than $463 million has been awarded statewide through the State's Regional Economic Development Council initiative. The City of Oneonta is happy to announce the new 115-space public parking lot on Market Street at the site of the former parking garage, is now open to the public. The lot includes 11 spaces will be reserved for electric vehicle charging. The new stair and elevator tower in the northwest corner of the lot is also open, providing an accessible pedestrian connection to Water Street, Oneonta Public Transit began operating today out of the new Transit Center at 47 Market Street, adjacent to the new parking lot.
This is the last week for donations to area locations for the Toys for Joy program, operated by the Delaware County Business Alliance & Delaware Opportunities. The toys will be collected shortly by the Business Alliance & will be turned over to Delaware Opportunities for distribution to under-privileged children in time for Christmas.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Austin Hitt of Schenevus for Arson, Burglary & Criminal Mischief, following an investigation into a reported residential fire in Schenevus. Hitt allegedly entered the residence unlawfully and intentionally set a fire inside, he was arrested and was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending arraignment at Otsego County Central Arraignment and was later released.
NYSEG reported that power has been restored to the vast majority of those who lost power this morning, mostly in the town of Greene. Over 700 Customers were without power this morning.
Walgreens is recalling more than 41,000 bottles of Walgreens Saline Nasal Spray with Xylitol, due to possible Bacteria contamination. Product with expiration dates of February 28, 2027, and August 31, 2027, are suspected Customers should return the spray to the store for a full refund.

In Oneida County Court today, 4 more former corrections officers received prison sentences for their involvement in the death of Marcy Correctional Facility inmate Robert Brooks last December. Nicholas Anzalone and Anthony Farina pleaded guilty to manslaughter and were each sentenced to 22 years in prison, while Michael Mashaw and David Walters pleaded guilty to lesser charges in connection with the Brooks killing and they were sentenced to 3 to 9 years in prison.
40 Year Old Jeremiah Raub from New Milford Pennsylvania was sentenced in Broome County to 20 years to life for 2nd degree Murder, plus 20 years to life for Arson with sentences to run concurrently in a New York State correctional facility. Raub was found guilty at trial in August in connection with the fatal March 17, 2011, fire at 20 Milford Street in the City of Binghamton, Raub intentionally set a fire in a recycling bin at the residence, the fire caused the death of 17 year old Jeffrey Aissa, who was inside the home at the time of the incident.
A State Police Patrol car was struck by another motorist at about 8:10 AM this morning on State Route 17C near Chaumont Drive. Police state that a Toyota Camry driven by an unidentified 69 year old female failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn into a parking lot & collided with the Trooper's vehicle, The Trooper sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital & was treated and released. The operator of the Toyota was also transported to the hospital.

Norwich City Police arrested 4 Norwich residents on a variety of charges Friday. Police Detectives were investigating an animal abuse case at 7 Park Street, a search warrant was issued & executed, Officers located methamphetamine, a digital scale, drug-packaging materials, plus a gun, metal knuckles, and several other weapons. The animals were removed & turned over to local veterinarians. City Code Enforcement officials condemned the residence due to unsafe conditions. Arrested were 27 year old Kathryn Schultz, 36 year old Jordan Bates, 23 year old Hunter Bishop & 47 year old Marc Kimble on a variety of drug, weapons & Animal Cruelty charges, all 4 were arraigned were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.
Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that Reginald Morris was sentenced following his guilty pleas to Attempted Assault and Attempted Criminal Sexual Act. Morris was sentenced to 1 ½ - 3 Years on his plea to Attempted Assault and 7 Years incarceration followed by 10 years post release supervision on his plea to Attempted Criminal Sexual Act. Morris will be required to register as a Sex Offender. The convictions stem from 2 separate incidents, on August 16, 2024, Morris approached a woman and attempted to forcibly engage in sexual conduct with her. The victim was able to resist and escape, and Morris was later taken into custody, and while incarcerated at the Broome County Correctional Facility, Morris intentionally damaged property and violently resisted corrections officers who attempted to restrain him, he bit an officer on the knee, causing injuries.

Sidney Police responded July 19th to a domestic dispute, where Cotten is accused of damaging a property and attempting to set it and responding officers on fire. The Indictment charges Cotten with Attempted Arson, Attempted Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Possession of Dangerous Weapon, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Justice & Menacing.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in an animal cruelty investigation in the area of Foster Lane in the Town of Otego. On September 6, a gunshot was heard in the area. Shortly afterward, the pet’s owner discovered their animal had been shot. The animal was immediately taken to a veterinary facility and is currently receiving ongoing medical care. Anyone with information should call the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office at 607-547-4273.

Flaggers will be stationed at the intersection to control traffic.
