Lambrecht Auction in Sidney held their 2nd Annual Sidney EMS Charity event Saturday at their Sidney Location on Delaware Avenue. Jared Lambrecht told WCDO News this afternoon that they raised $50,800 for the Sidney Emergency Squad, that is in need of a new fully loaded ambulance, which costs about $250,000. Last year they raised $18,000 in their 1st charity auction effort for the Emergency squad.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Michael VanDerWeert of Guilford & 47 year old Dawn Cavanaugh of North Carolina, for Burglary, Petty Larceny, Criminal Mischief and Conspiracy. Deputies responded to a burglary complaint at a business in the Town of Norwich, where someone broke into the building and stole multiple items. The vehicle used in the burglary was spotted at a business in the Village of Oxford, VanDerWeert and Cavanaugh were arrested and transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office where they were released on appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday to an ATV crash near Fuller Hollow Road in the Town of Hamden. Prior to Deputies’ arrival, Delaware County 911 reported that a victim had been privately transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in the Village of Walton with a second victim still on scene. Deputies located the 2nd victim, an 11-year-old male, at a residence, who was transported to Albany Medical Center by Life Net for non-life-threatening injuries. The 1st Victim was a 13-year-old female who was pronounced deceased at the Delaware Valley Hospital, due to injuries sustained from the crash.
Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 2.3% in October according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Local collections totaled $1.84 billion for the month, up $41 million from the previous October, County and city collections outside of New York City increased by only .4%, 36 of 57 counties experienced year-over-year increases.
The Chenango County Historical Society will participate in Giving Tuesday, on December 3rd. Giving Tuesday asks people to donating to local charities, Giving Tuesday is held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Also, the annual Holiday Open House and Museum Store Sunday will be from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on December 1st at the Chenango County Historical Society on Rexford Street in Norwich.
The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will hold their next meeting tomorrow morning in Bainbridge. The meeting will begin at 7:30 am at the back of Bob's Diner, Chamber members are urged to attend.

The FEMA authorized the use of federal funds to assist in combating the Catskills Wildfires, The Grant Declaration will allow for funding to help cover costs associated with responding to the Jennings Creek/Sterling State Park wildfire and protecting those in its path. Statewide there were 13 wildfires reported Sunday, encompassing more than 5,000 acres, the state wide burn ban remains in effect.
State Police at Troop C in Sidney announced that 24 people were charged with DWI, from the period of November 1st through November 12th. State Police will continue with DWI patrols, with increased efforts during the upcoming Thanksgiving & Christmas Holiday seasons.
Firefighters from Sidney Center & surrounding departments responded to the report of a structure fire late Sunday morning at 1129 Vandervoort Hill Road. The fire was contained to the basement and was quickly extinguished, no injuries were reported.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will join elected officials and educators to encourage Binghamton University students to apply to the DoD Cyber Service Academy scholarship program, which provides full college tuition in return for public service in the Department of Defense or the Intelligence Community. Successful applicants will serve one year in the DoD or the IC as a civilian employee for each year of their scholarship. Gillibrand's event begins at 3:00 this afternoon at the Binghamton University Innovative Technologies Complex at 85 Murray Hill Road in Vestal.
UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will launch “Be the Light,” to illuminate Newton House on Broad Street in Norwich. With a suggested donation of $20, community members can purchase a light that celebrates or memorializes a loved one. Names of honorees will be displayed at CMH throughout December. Proceeds will benefit the Auxiliary’s efforts to support patient services at CMH, the lighting ceremony and reception on Tuesday, December 3rd at 5:30pm at Newton House. Long time Sidney businessman Bill Thomas passed away Friday at the age of 70, Thomas & his wife Linda ran Sidney Auto Body until 2018, Bill also served on the Masonville Town Board & The Sidney School District Board of Education, calling hours will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on at C.H. Landers Funeral Home, 21 Main Street Sidney, A memorial service will be held at the Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty Street in Sidney, at 11am on Friday.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 18 year old Steven Cook of Vestal for Attempted Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Cook is accused of soliciting pornographic images from a 12-year-old girl. Deputies responded last week to a 911 report from a 12-year-old victim in the Town of Union, who informed investigators that she had been talking and exchanging explicit messages with Cook where he allegedly attempted to initiate sexual contact with the minor and attempting to solicit pornographic images from her. During the execution of a search warrant, Cook was uncooperative with investigators, but was eventually taken into custody, Cook remains in the custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office awaiting arraignment.
Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 38 year old Andrew Bethune of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court to 4 years in New York State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On January 25, 2023, authorities conducted a search of Bethune's apartment located at 111 Oak Street, Apartment 4 in Binghamton, they seized cocaine, fentanyl & methamphetamines, plus packaging materials, a digital scale and $5,481 in cash from suspected drug sales.
National Baseball Hall of Fame Chairman of the Board Jane Forbes Clark announced that a Hank Aaron statue will be unveiled at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown on May 23. The bronze representation of Aaron will be installed on the first floor of the Museum. Aaron was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1982 following a 23-year big league career with the Braves and Brewers, Aaron launched his 715th career home run 50 years ago today. Aaron’s Hall of Fame plaque made a rare appearance outside of the Hall of Fame Plaque Gallery when it traveled to Atlanta for today’s event, the plaque will also be featured at Truist Park today for fans to view at this evening’s Braves-Mets game.

A raccoon tested positive for rabies in the town of Meredith. This is the first laboratory confirmed positive case of rabies in Delaware County in 2024. A rabid raccoon entered a cow barn in the town of Meredith and attacked and bit a cow. The raccoon was sent for testing to the State Department of Health Wadsworth Laboratory. The cow that was attacked and bitten has been euthanized. There were no human exposures, and no other domestic animals were exposed to the rabid raccoon. Confirmed panel speakers include State Senator Peter Oberacker, Assembly representatives Joe Angelino, Brian Maher, and Chris Tague. The event is free and advance registration is encouraged, at DelawareCounty.org.
Brian Mulder of Union Grove Distillery in Arkville, will appear on Discovery Channel’s Moonshiners: Master Distiller program. 3 distillers from across the United States compete to become Master Distiller. Mulder’s TV debut with Moonshiners: Master Distiller is scheduled to air on April 16th at 10:00 pm on Discovery Channel. Union Grove will host a screening party for the episode a few days later on Saturday, April 20th at 7:30pm.
The State Police are working alongside other state agencies in preparation for the solar eclipse at approximately 3:00 PM today, with a narrow path of totality across Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Watertown, Lake Placid and Plattsburgh. Motorists who must travel in the areas impacted by the eclipse are asked to allow for extra travel time due to expected large volumes of traffic.

ONEboxes allows ordinary bystanders to become lifesavers in the event of a drug overdose emergency, Bassett spokesman Jim Feldman explains:

Feldman said that Naloxone is a medication that can quickly counteract opioids in someone’s body if they are experiencing an overdose. Bassett's ONEbox is located at Collaborative Health Partners, 6181 State Route 7 in Oneonta, it is accessible Monday-Friday, 8 am.-5 pm.
The Vestal Police Department arrested 43 year old Lori Littler of Vestal on a variety of drug charges. Members of the police department executed a search warrant at Littler’s residence, they seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, suboxone, plus Packaging materials & Scales, Littler was remanded to the Broome County Jail to await arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 23 year old Lucian Decker of Pittsfield, for 2nd degree Assault with a weapon, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, plus he was wanted on 2 warrants. Decker was arrested following an investigation into an assault in the Town of Morris on April 7 2022, where he allegedly struck the victim in the head with a lead pipe after an argument, Decker fled the scene & left the state, earlier this month, deputies learned that Decker was back in the area, and was involved in another incident that is still under investigation. Decker was located in the Town of Pittsfield and was taken into custody without incident, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $3,000 cash bail/$30,000 secured bond.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a one-person motorcycle accident with injuries on Interstate Route 81 South between Exits 1 and 2 in the Town of Kirkwood Tuesday. The initial investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was the only individual involved and speed was a factor in the crash. The motorcyclist was transported to Wilson Hospital with serious injuries.
Governor Hochul announced that $20 million in state funding has been awarded to 7 counties and New York City to improve public safety and emergency communications. The funding can be used to install new equipment, enhance public safety radio systems, Locally, Chenango County will get $3 million in funding for a 25 digital radio system to bring multiple agencies into a single radio system.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and SUNY Broome have partnered on a program to begin introducing community college “life skills” curriculum to incarcerated men and women at the Broome County Correctional Facility. The pilot program consists of five, 1-hour weekly classes taking place over five weeks, offered in both a male and a female housing pod. Undersheriff Sam Davis is the instructor for each class, he previously served as the Director of Training for the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and taught several criminal justice courses at SUNY Broome over the past 8 years.

Deputies were made aware that Baker had failed to register with the Sheriff’s Office within 5 days of his release from incarceration as mandated in the County Law, Deputies located and arrested Baker Monday for 1 count of violating Local Law Number 15 of 2021, he was transported to the Village of Sidney Police Department where he was processed and released on an appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Matthew Caletka of Binghamton, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, on April 19, 2023, The Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at 9 Sherwood Avenue in Binghamton. Caletka was found to be in possession of over 2 ounces of Methamphetamine, he admitted to possession with the intent to sell. Caletka will be sentenced to 3.5 years in State Prison and 2 years post-release supervision when sentenced on April 26th. .
Cortland County Deputies were attempting service at 171 Homer Avenue in the City of Cortland, Monday, they were confronted at the door by a male subject with gun, and the Cortland City Police Department and State Police responded to assist. Multiple unsuccessful attempts were made to deescalate the situation and the subject fired upon the Officers. Gunfire was exchanged within the residence and the subject was struck, he was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he currently remains in stable condition. No Officers were hurt and the State Police have assumed control of the investigation.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced an arrest of a Walton residence on an Indictment Warrant issued by the Ontario County Superior Court. Deputies located 40-year-old Geoffrey Gould at his residence, he was arrested on the Indictment Warrant which was issued for 1 Count of Possessing Sexual Performance by a child less than 16 years of age. Deputies had transported Gould to Broome County where he was later turned over to members of the Canandaigua Police Department.
16 school districts were designated in some level of fiscal stress under State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's Fiscal Stress Monitoring System for the school year, up from 14 districts in fiscal stress the prior year, but still well below the 33 designated in stress in 2019. Increased temporary federal aid and growth in state aid have contributed to the declining number of school districts designated in fiscal stress. None of the School Districts in the WCDO listening area made the list this year.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant at 1 Wakeman Road in the Town of Vestal Wednesday, The target of the search warrant was 34 year old Daontay Stephenson, also present was 56 year old Willie Mims of Vestal. Officers seized Fentanyl Pills, Cocaine, Crack Cocaine, Oxycodone, Scales and packaging used to distribute narcotics, A 12-gauge shotgun, A loaded high-capacity magazine, Assorted ammunition and over $1,000 in cash. Stephenson and Mims were transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, where Stephenson tampered with evidence. Stephenson and Mims were charged on multiple weapons & drug charges, they were transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for processing and arraignment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 49 year old Anthony Orregio of Huguenot for Driving while ability impaired by the use of drugs, endangering the welfare of a child and violations of the vehicle and traffic law. Deputies observed a vehicle driving erratically while in the Village of Walton, Deputies arrested Oreggio, he was subsequently released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Village of Walton Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 62 year old Bert Mullineaux of Walton on January 9th. Deputies were dispatched to a 1 car motor vehicle accident on Bobs Brook Road in the Town of Tompkins, Deputies determined that Mullineaux's driving privileges are revoked for DWI since 2006, he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, Moving from a lane Unsafely, and Speed not reasonable and Prudent, he will appear in Tompkins Town Court at a later date to answer those charges.
Fire fighters in Morris were able to quickly extinguish a trailer home fire Sunday night. Morris Firefighters were called to 422 Pegg Road just before 6:00 PM Sunday night, crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly, with only minor damage reported, no injuries were reported.
The Oneonta Department of Public Works announced a water main break on Bugbee Road near Crestmont Terrace this morning. Traffic was closed in the immediate vicinity & water was shut off for surrounding residents. More information will be available for area residents at 607-432-2100.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 22 year old Kaleb Weinmuller of Morris, for Rape, Criminal Sexual Act and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigated a sexual abuse complaint in the Village of Oxford, where it was discovered that Weinmuller was 21 years old & performed sexual acts with a minor. Weinmuller was arrested and arraigned in the Village of Oxford Court, he was remanded on $25,000 cash bail & was transported back to Broome County Correctional Facility where he is currently being held on other charges.
An Otsego County ambulance was at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on I-88 Sunday in Schenevus when the ambulance was struck by a passing vehicle. The ambulance was parked on the shoulder of the roadway with its Emergency lighting activated. The crew was treating a patient from a previous accident in the rear of the ambulance when they were struck. Both providers were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Frank Mazepa of Morris on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a controlled substance. On January 8, Deputies assisted the SUNY Delhi Police Department on a traffic stop in the Village of Delhi, it was determined that the passenger in the vehicle was in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine and heroin. Mazepa was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Delhi court at a later date.
The Broome County district Attorney's Office announced that on January 12th, in Broome County Court, just prior to trial, Craig Brigham of the Town of Maine, pleaded guilty to felony Attempted Robbery. On August 1st, 2022, Brigham entered the Vestal Walmart selected a backpack and miscellaneous merchandise. When an employee attempted to retrieve the stolen merchandise, Brigham pulled out a small aerosol can and threatened to pepper spray the employee. Brigham will be sentenced in Broome County Court on April 12th to 1.5 to 3 years at a state prison.
The Sidney Center Improvement Group annual meeting will be held tonight at 6:30pm at the Sidney Center Fire Hall. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. The Improvement Group Board is seeking new members and more involvement in order to continue bringing programming, events and improvement projects to the Hamlet of Sidney Center and for the Town of Sidney.
