Commencement exercises continue Saturday& Sunday for tri-county area schools. On Saturday at 10:00, the Sidney school district graduation will begin at 10:00 am at the Transportation center, attendees will park in the high school parking lot & shuttle buses will be available. Other graduations include Harpursville at 10:00 AM in the gymnasium, Greene at 10:00 AM in the high school gym, other 10:00 AM graduations include Norwich, Delhi & Walton. Oneonta graduation exercises will begin at 10:45 AM, Oxford Academy at 11:00 AM; Gilbertsville Mount Upton has their graduation at 1:30, the Unadilla Valley 2:00 PM and Saturday evening, the Bainbridge Guilford exercises will begin at 7:00 Pm on the front lawn or multi-purpose room if there is foul weather. On Sunday the graduation exercises for the Edmeston district will begin at 1:00 PM.
State police, US Marshals, Binghamton Police, State Parole officers and Broome county sheriff’s deputies apprehended Michael Degnan yesterday, he was charged with 1st Degree rape and was additionally placed in custody on a Parole Violation warrant after being located at the Dell Motel in the Town of Kirkwood. Degnan was wanted for the June 8th rape of a 14-year-old female in Port Crane, he was arraigned in the Town of Kirkwood Court, and remanded to the Broome County Jail on no bail. The investigation is continuing.
The state Assembly passed all 10 point of Governor Cuomo’s women’s equality act Thursday, while the state senate was expected to vote on the individual pieces and possibly pass 9 of the 10 point. Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver challenged senate leadership to pass all 10 points.

Governor Cuomo’s office said that the issue would likely be cleared up with Senate leadership by the end of the today.
State Senator Jim Seward announced that community libraries throughout the 51st senatorial district have been awarded a total of nearly $350,000 in public library construction grant funds. The Sidney Memorial Public Library will receive $36,600, for a project will include upgrading ramp access to include handicapped access to the library Community Room entrance and adding automatic door openers to library front doors.
A Broome county jury found Maurice Anthony of Brooklyn guilty for the murder of Eric Dantzler's Thursday in Broome County Court. The jury found Anthony guilty of 1st & 2nd degree murder and 2 counts of 1st degree attempted robbery, Anthony was accused of buying marijuana from Dantzler & when he attempted to rob Dantzler, he shot him. Anthony will be sentenced on the charges in September.
State Police at Oneonta arrested 34 year old Jessica Bartholomew, of Chino Hills, California for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC result of .17%. The arrest resulted from an investigation into a suspicious vehicle in the Wendy’s Parking lot, on State Highway 23 in Oneonta, Bartholomew was issued tickets returnable in the Town of Oneonta Court on July 9th.

School district budget votes will be held tomorrow throughout the state, with many of the districts also voting on school board seats. Most of the area school district are proposing budgets that come in at or under the state’s 2% tax cap. Locally, Afton, Charlotte Valley, Edmeston, Franklin, Laurens, Milford, Norwich, Oxford Unadilla Valley, Unatego & Walton are asking residents to pass budgets with total spending more than 2% above last year.
State Police in Deposit arrested 21-year-old Onif Chamberlain of The Bronx, for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Also arrested was 20-year-old Gregory Ewer of The Bronx for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. The arrests resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 17 in Hancock; both subjects were issued Appearance Tickets returnable to the Village of Hancock Court on May 22nd.
State Police at Oneonta arrested 20-year-old John Rundblad Jr., of Worcester for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC result of .13%. The arrest resulted from a traffic accident in Westford; Rundblad was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Westford Court on June 4th.
Police in Delhi & Walton are investigating alleged threats to the Delhi & Walton school districts Friday there was no actual incidents based on the Internet posted threats, both schools remained on lockdown, and police presence was beefed up at dismissal times. Franklin also went on lockdown for a short period at dismissal time, to insure the students’ safety, even though they were not mentioned specifically in the Internet threats. The investigations are continuing.
This Saturday, May 25th the 6th Annual Dan Elwood Memorial 5k Run/ 1Mile Walk to benefit Hospice of Chenango County. The Women’s Fund, of the Community Foundation for South Central New York, is accepting grant proposals for amounts of $1,000 to $4,000 from qualified organizations in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego and Tioga counties. Funding is available for projects or programs to improve the well being of women and/or girls throughout their lives. The Deadline is Wednesday, July 10th by 4:00 PM, in Foundation offices; application guidelines are available at donorswhocare.org. More information is available at 772-6773.

Fire fighters from all over the region responded to a fire at Matteson Hall dormitory at the state university at Oneonta yesterday afternoon. The fire broke out in a third floor dorm at around 4:00 PM, the building was safely evacuated the red cross was called in to assist dorm residents, the fire was extinguished in less than 2 hours, college officials believe that all residents were accounted for, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
State Police arrested 47-year-old CASEY CALLAHAN of Norwich for 3 counts of 1st degree Criminal Sexual Act & 1 count of endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest is the result of an investigation into sexual relationships the defendant allegedly had with underage victims, he was arraigned in the Town of Unadilla Court and remanded to Otsego County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. State Police arrested 28-year-old ANTHONY RAGGI of Binghamton for 2nd degree Criminal Sexual Act, following an investigation into an alleged sexual relationship with an underage victim, while employed as a teacher for the Susquehanna Valley School District in 2012. Raggi was arraigned in the Town of Kirkwood Court and released on his own recognizance pending further court proceedings. 40-year-old Robert Wilsey of Harpersfield was arrested as a part of a continuing, joint investigation being conducted by the Delaware and Otsego County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Divisions and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in cooperation with State Police. Deputies charged Wilsey with 2nd degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly possessing over 5 ounces of Oxycodone powder, with street value of $50,000. Wilsey is being held in the Delaware County jail without bail, officials said that Wilsey is expected to face additional charges and additional arrests are anticipated. Investigators continue to work with the Covidien to identify sources of diverted pharmaceutical narcotics from within the Pharmaceutical Company.
