Officials at the state university on Oneonta reported that 56 students who were living on the 3rd floor of Matteson Hall have been able to remove their belongings and have been moved to other dorms on the campus, since last weeks fire. 121 students who had been living on the 1st & 2nd floor are being housed temporarily at the Holiday Inn on Route 23 Southside; officials expect that they will be able to move back into their dorms rooms before the weekend. The fire was started last Wednesday by a defective power strip in a 3rd floor dorm room, officials said that the 3rd floor will be closed for the remainder of the semester for clean up and renovation.

Yesterday's fire at Matteson Hall on the SUNY Oneonta campus has been ruled accidental. The investigators from the Oneonta Fire Department reported that the fire started as from a malfunction and the improper use of an electric plug strip on the 3rd. Inspectors ruled tat Matteson Hall is structurally sound, but the electrical infrastructure and 3rd floor fire alarms have been compromised. Disaster Clean-Up from Endwell, has been retained to clean the third floor, which is expected to take at least two weeks. The college will continue to offer shelter at Chase Gymnasium for students displaced by the fire & a plan for long-term housing is under development now. 177 students were affected. No injuries were reported.

Fire fighters from all over the region responded to a fire at Matteson Hall dormitory at the state university at Oneonta yesterday afternoon. The fire broke out in a third floor dorm at around 4:00 PM, the building was safely evacuated the red cross was called in to assist dorm residents, the fire was extinguished in less than 2 hours, college officials believe that all residents were accounted for, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire crews from all over the region are responding to a fire on the top floor at Matteson Hall on the SUCO campus in Oneonta. The Fire was called in at about 4:00 PM, and early reports suggests that all students escaped the dorm without injury. WCDO News will have more information as it becomes available
