Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Aaron Vandusen of Unadilla for Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, & Criminal Contempt. On November 29th, Otsego County 911 received a call regarding a male subject who had suffered a gunshot wound in a vehicle, it was determined that Vandusen had fashioned a homemade pistol even though he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a previous felony conviction, he was attempting to enter a vehicle and dropped the homemade firearm which discharged in to his abdomen & groin area. He was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. State Police and Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Vandusen's residence Thursday for an unrelated complaint, he was arraigned in Otsego County Centralized Arraignment and released on his own recognizance pending future court action.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that starting today, the Department of Defense will try sexual assault cases outside the military chain of command. Senator Gillibrand fought for this reform for nearly a decade until it's passing recently in Congress, This move will remove judicial functions and prosecutorial decisions about the most serious crimes from the chain of command and put them in the hands of independent, trained professionals in the courts.

State Police will continue with their participation in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative through Monday, January 1st. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Matthew Romano of Unadilla for Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following a property damaged motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oneonta. Romano was found to be operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver's license, he was issued a uniform traffic ticket and taken into custody on a Oneonta City Court Bench Warrant, he was then turned over to Oneonta PD to answer his warrant.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Tracy Boyer of Columbus following a six-month investigation involving multiple complaints of burglaries and thefts. Boyer was working as a Home Health Aide, she is accused of stealing from her clients, she has been charged with 2nd and 3rd degree grand larceny, 2 counts of 2nd degree burglary, 3 counts of conspiracy, & making a false written statement, she faces court action shortly.

2 Blood Drives are scheduled for this afternoon, 1 is being held at the Quality Inn on State Route 23 Southside in Oneonta, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM, another is being held at the Sidney Elks Lodge on River Street also from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. The State Division of Consumer Protection reminds shoppers of laws that protect consumers about holiday returns. The Department recommends that consumers carefully review and understand what to look for when reviewing return and refund policies. If the retailer does not post a return policy, the law requires the retailer to accept returns of unused, undamaged merchandise within 30 days of the purchase date, with a receipt. For retailers that allow returns, State law does not require refunds to be given in any specific manner. Consumers having difficulty obtaining a refund are encouraged to file a complaint at dos.ny.gov/file-consumer-complaint

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 63 year old Kenneth Nilson of Oneonta following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oneonta on December 9th. Nilson was charged with DWI, DWI with a BAC of .08% or more & failure to keep right, he was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court at a later date.

An American Red Cross Blood Drive will return this year to honor fallen State Trooper Christopher Skinner, who served for 13 years & was killed in a hit and run in 2014 while conducting a routine traffic stop on Interstate 81 in the Town of Chenango. State Police are participating in the national enforcement initiative to crack down on impaired driving this holiday season. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will celebrate the Texas Rangers’ 2023 World Series championship through Autumn Glory, the Museum’s tribute to the postseason. The State Court of Appeals ordered new Congressional maps be drawn for the 2024 election, the redistricting decision will ensure that all , district lines should be drawn by the Independent Redistricting Commission, and not by state lawmakers.

28 year old Devon Ireland of Unadilla pleaded guilty to Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, in Delaware County Court, he admitted that he was sending sexual messages to a person he believed to be a minor, Ireland is a registered sex offender, it was later revealed that the person he was messaging was an adult, decoying as a child. Ireland will be sentenced to 1 year in jail, he will be required to pay fines and surcharges & he will provide a sample of his DNA for the state data bank. Ireland was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on January 29.

State Police responded to a 3-vehicle crash in the town of Newfield, with 1 fatality reported. The investigation revealed that a Toyota and a Jeep were traveling north, The Jeep was stopped for another vehicle in front of it making a turn when the Jeep was rear-ended by the Toyota, which then went into on-coming traffic and was struck by a Cadillac. A passenger of the Toyota, 17-year-old Peyton Shaw of Waverly was pronounced dead on scene, The operator of the Toyota 18-year-old Dale Beeman of Spencer, was transported to Packer Hospital, the operators of the other vehicles were treated at the scene by EMS & were released.

State Police arrested 34 year old Joshua Bean of Endicott for 3 counts of Menacing, State Police responded to a complaint at Highland Park in the town of Union, where Bean allegedly menaced 3 people with a pocket-knife while they were working at the holiday fireworks display. Bean was arrested then transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Governor Hochul signed Angelica’s Law, which decreases the number of prior license suspensions needed to qualify for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The legislation was named for Angelica Nappi who lost her life after being killed by a driver with multiple prior suspensions.

26 year old Simon Wysong of Delhi was indicted Thursday in Delaware County Court, he is accused of Driving While Impaired by Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, and Fentanyl in the Town of Davenport on July 26, 2022. Wysong was driving at a high rate of speed on County Highway 10 when he failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed onto State Highway 23 & collided with another vehicle. Wysong's passenger was killed, the driver of the other vehicle suffered serious physical injuries. The Grand Jury indicted Wysong for Vehicular Manslaughter, Assault, 2nd degree Manslaughter & Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, he faces up to 8 1/3rd to 25 years in state prison if he is convicted of the most serious charge. Wysong will be arraigned on the indictment in Delaware County Court on October 23rd.

2 people were arrested following a traffic stop in Norwich regarding a stolen motorcycle, that led to a chase that ended in Unadilla. Norwich Police had attempted a traffic stop, the driver, Cody McCrady of Chenango Forks & passenger, Nichole Wiggins of Greene, fled. The pair were taken into custody in Unadilla. The investigation revealed that the Motorcycle was stolen from Manlius and the license plates were reported stolen from Johnson City. McCrady was charged with Reckless Endangerment, Criminal possession of stolen property, & criminal possess of a controlled substance, Wiggins was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Wiggins was released on an appearance ticket, McCrady was being for arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received a complaint regarding a group of students from Walton High School who received a message via a social media app, which contained threats to bomb the Walton School and cause harm to other students. Deputies responded to Walton and interviewed multiple students and it was determined that the threat was made after school hours and that an 18 year-old student of Walton High School did make threats to “bomb” the Walton High School. The juvenile was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat and was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Commerce Chenango announced that 3 local museums are participating in the "MUSEUMS & MORE" event tomorrow. The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that a plea deal was given to 35-year-old Bradley Law of Harpursville. Law admitted to operating the vehicle in a hit & run Crash that killed 13 year old Brennan Loveless as he was riding hid Bicycle along Route 7 near his home in Sanitaria Springs back on New Year’s Day. Law was sentenced to 1 1/3rd to 4 years in prison for leaving the scene of a fatal accident and a weapons charge.

State Police reported that 16 year old Emily Clapper was located in good health in the city of Oneonta by Oneonta Police. Clapper was reported missing on October 2nd.

The Norwich & Vestal Walk-a-thon will be the only in-person events, the rest will be virtual, the Chenango County Child Advocacy Center in Norwich is one of the charities that will benefit from this effort. Matthews will distribute up to $150,000 to the charities based on the miles walked and the percentage of votes each charity receives during registration.

31 year old Derek Wignall of Hancock was sentenced to a 5 year period of probation supervision for the crime of Criminal Contempt in the First Degree. On May 31st, Wignall violated an Order of Protection by contacting the protected party while incarcerated on an unrelated matter, Wignall was placed back into custody following the violation of the Order of Protection. Wignall pleaded guilty to the charge he was sentenced to a five-year period of probation supervision and 180 days of Electronic Monitoring both to be supervised by the Delaware County Probation Department.

Norwich City School District Superintendent Scott Ryan announced that This morning at 10:13 am, the lock-down system was activated the Middle School and High School campus. This activation was not planned. Our safety team followed all of the procedures and protocols. Each building on the MS/HS campus has been declared safe and free of threat by the Norwich Police Department and our safety team. At 11:30 a.m. the campus was restored to full activity.

An Open House Event will be held at the Forum Theater in Binghamton Thursday. Participants will get another opportunity to "Test Drive" their seats for those interested in purchasing Season Tickets for shows to be performed at the Forum. Broadway in Binghamton Staff will be on hand for the event, which runs from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Many homes have been demolished in the River Street area in the village of Sidney in recent months, many irreparably damaged by the major flooding of 2006 & 2011. The Otsego County Health Department announced that a bat has tested positive for rabies in Burlington Flats today. There was 1 human exposure, that person is undergoing post exposure vaccinations. 31 year old Thomas Harris of Unadilla was sentenced to a 5-year term of probation supervision for 4th degree Arson in Delaware County Court. On June 4th, 2022, State Police responded to reports of a structure fire in the Town of Sidney, Troopers discovered beer bottles, some with gasoline, the victim told Troopers that Harris threw the bottles, starting the fire. Investigators obtained DNA Swabs from Harris, Harris's DNA was on the bottles, he was arrested & Harris pled guilty to Arson. Harris was directed to immediately report to the Delaware County Department of Probation.

The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local unemployment rates for August, New York State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 3.9% in August 2023. Locally Chenango County had 3.2% unemployment, Delaware County 3.8% and Otsego County 3.6% in August.

41 year old Paul Thayer of Utica was sentenced in Delaware County Court for his conviction of Attempted Dissemination of Indecent Materials to a Minor. On May 2nd, Thayer drove from Utica to the Village of Walton to meet a person he believed to be a 14 year old boy after sending the boy numerous text messages soliciting sexual acts. Thayer admitted he believed the boy was 14, the boy was actually a fictitious entity controlled by an organization dedicated to catching sexual predators, Judge Hubbard sentenced him to a 3-year term of probation supervision, which will include specific sex offender terms and conditions.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Bobbi Jo Worden of Oneonta for allegedly for throwing toilet bowl contents onto corrections officers 2 separate times while incarcerated at the Otsego County Jail. Worden was charged with Aggravated Harassment of an Employee by an Inmate . The officers were treated at Bassett Hospital and released. Worden was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Middlefield Town Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Health Department has lifted the BOIL WATER ORDER issued for the Village of Afton, issued Saturday. The Village of Afton’s water supply currently meets the minimum standards for Public Water Supplies, Based upon repeat sampling results, Residents may now resume normal water activity, more information is available at the Environmental Division of the Chenango County Health Department at (607) 337-1673.

New York Farm Bureau is hosting a State Convention on December 4th through the 6th at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel and Convention Center in Tarrytown. State Police arrested 48 year old Theresa Price of Utica for 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Troopers were advised last week that Price took a used vehicle for a test drive from a car dealership, told them she’d like the vehicle checked out by her mechanic but never returned. An investigation revealed that on September 15, the vehicle was traveling on Interstate 90. Price and the vehicle were located at a truck stop in the town of Pembroke. She was arrested and was processed and was turned over to the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.

Broome County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop Saturday on Court Street in Binghamton. The Deputy stopped 28 year old Matin Avdel of Johnson City, the Deputy noticed a clear plastic bag filled with pills and powder in a fanny pack Avdel was wearing, he admitted to possessing illegal substances on both his person and in the vehicle he was driving. Avdel also identified a weapon hidden in his hoodie pocket. Avdel was charged with Criminal Possession of a Loaded Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 4 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Deputies recovered Oxycodone, MDMA, Amphetamines, A loaded pistol, Avdel was taken into custody and arraigned in Binghamton City Court. He is currently being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

60 year old John Hussey of Walton, pleaded guilty in Walton Town Court for Driving While Intoxicated. On February 21st, a State Trooper responded to the report of a vehicle stuck in a ditch on Beebe Road, the Trooper found Hussey face down in the ditch, he was uncooperative & impaired, he refused to take a Field Sobriety Test and attempted to get into his vehicle, Hussey was arrested & taken into custody. Broome County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 2 people following a home invasion with shots fire Wednesday evening at Bradley Creek Road in the Town of Maine. Sheriff Akshar explained at a Press Conference this afternoon.:

Sheriff Akshar said that 2 people were arrested within 3 hours of the incident; 21 year old Jayvon Phillip & 31 year old Rozlyn Warthen of Binghamton were each charged with Attempted Murder, Attempted Burglary & Criminal Use of A Firearm, Phillip sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the incident and was being treated at a local hospital when he and Warthen were arrested. 27 year old Taykwann Browne of Brooklyn was sentenced to 10 years in jail in Broome County Court Thursday. Browne pleaded guilty to felony criminal possession of a weapon, he admitted that on January 18, he illegally possessed a loaded 9-millimeter pistol in the City of Binghamton. Browne had escaped supervision while having an active homicide warrant in New York City, he was located driving in the City of Binghamton when police attempted to pull him over, he failed to comply and drove off, he crashed the car & then fled on foot & was apprehended, a loaded handgun & narcotics were recovered at the scene. Browne was on parole for a 2015 robbery conviction in Brooklyn at the time of the arrest, he is also facing murder charges in New York City.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the ratification of a 4-year labor agreement with the United University Professions, which includes over 37,000 SUNY system faculty and professional employees. The agreement runs until July 1, 2026, it won the approval of 96.4% union members who cast ballots.

The Johnson City Central School District announcing the resignation of middle school principal Daniel Erickson of Greene. Erickson was arrested in July after he allegedly attempted to lure a 16-year-old former student through social media, to perform sexual acts with him. He was remanded to Broome County Jail and released on bail on July 12.

31 year old Thomas Harris of Unadilla, pleaded guilty to 4th degree Arson, on June 4, 2022, State Police responded to reports of a structure fire in the Town of Sidney. Upon arrival, the Troopers discovered several broken and intact beer bottles, some of which contained gasoline, a victim stated that Harris threw the bottles, starting the fire. The Bottles were tested, the results confirmed the presence of Harris’ DNA on the bottles. Harris will be sentenced to five years of felony probation supervision when sentenced at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul at the Great New York State Fair today signed an Executive Order directing State agencies to increase the percentage of food sourced from New York farmers and producers to 30 percent of their total purchases within five years. The Governor also signed legislation to bring together students at the New York State Fair to develop innovative agricultural technologies as well as legislation to support smaller and newer fairs across the state while promoting youth involvement in agriculture and domestic arts.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23 year old Nicholas Wayman of Bainbridge, after they responded to a Domestic Report in the Town of Delhi at the Victims place of work. The investigation revealed that Wayman had been involved in a Domestic Dispute while in a moving vehicle, having unwanted physical contact with the victim while in the presence of a child within the vehicle, the victim possessed an order of protection against him. Wayman was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Contempt, Harassment & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and other related violation, he was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court on a later date to answer the charges.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 31 year old Derek Wignall of Hancock, pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt. Wignall violated an Order of Protection by contacting the protected party while incarcerated on an unrelated matter, he was placed back into custody upon discovery of the violation of the Order of Protection. Judge Rosa ordered a pre-sentence investigation to be undertaken by the Delaware County Probation Department. If found to be appropriate, Wignall will be placed on probation supervision for a five-year term.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call placed at a Fast Trac gas station in the Town of Fenton from a victim reporting that she had been assaulted and held hostage on Ballyhack Road in the Town of Fenton before escaping. 39 year old Steven Fish of Fenton is accused of threatening the victim with a machete, sexually and physically assaulting the victim, who was treated at a local hospital. Fish was charged with 1st Degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act by Forcible Compulsion, Unlawful Imprisonment & Menacing, he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

35 year old Antonio Felice of Utica appeared in Delhi Town Court and entered guilty pleas to Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs & Bail Jumping. Felice was apprehended in Utica, he was arrested on a warrant & was transported to the Delaware County Jail, he was sentenced to a jail term to be followed by a year of conditional discharge & his license was revoked.

Binghamton Police Department announced the names of the couple who were found after a fire was extinguished at 56 Howard Avenue. The investigation revealed that 64-year-old Patrick Angeline shot his wife, 62 year old Wanda Angeline, multiple times before starting the fire. He later shot himself inside of the home. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 80 mph in a posted 55 mph zone in the town of Colchester. A traffic stop was conducted, 61-year-old Mark Mclaren of Hortonville was driving in unregistered vehicle without insurance, he was issued tickets for Speeding & Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Mclaren was released & is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The Otsego County Health Department reported that a raccoon located in Unadilla has tested positive for rabies. The Broome County Special Investigations Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant in the Town of Chenango, at the Comfort Inn on Upper Front Street. 42 year old James Konidis of Binghamton is accused of throwing a package of narcotics out of his 4th floor window in an attempt to hide or dispose of the drugs, investigators located 6.1 grams of Fentanyl thrown from the window, plus they seized methamphetamine as well as a scale for weighing narcotics from the room. Konidis was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tampering with /Attempting to Conceal or Destroy with Physical Evidence, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Konidis was taken to Central Arraignment at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility for processing and arraignment.

Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand visited the Southern Tier Crime Analysis Center to announce Senate passage of her FEND Off Fentanyl Act. Fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin, the majority of illegal fentanyl entering the United States is made with Chinese precursor chemicals and manufactured in Mexico. This bill will empower the U.S. government to go after the cartels bringing Fentanyl into the US and those producing and shipping the precursor materials. The law also enhances sanctions enforcement and gives the Treasury Department tools to combat fentanyl-related money laundering.

State Police arrested 3 teens after fleeing from law enforcement in a vehicle. Troopers were in Endicott they observed a Hyundai Elantra that was reported stolen out of the Syracuse area. Troopers attempted to make a traffic stop, The vehicle accelerated and failed to comply. Numerous violations occurred through multiple villages, towns and city. While on Interstate 81 near exit 5, Troopers deployed a Stinger, which is a tire deflation device, All 4 tires deflated and 3 juvenile occupants were taken into custody, they were charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, the 16-year-old driver was also charged Unlawfully Fleeing from a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle. All were arraigned at Youth Part Court.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that applications are open for $500 million from the state Budget to bolster New York’s child care workforce through the Workforce Retention Grant Program. Cooperstown Cheese Company based in Milford, New York announced a recall of over 1400 pounds of cheese, The recalled cheese was purchased, sold or distributed from June 21st to July 10th, They were distributed in New York State through farmers markets, restaurants and retail stores. All recalled products are labeled with Cooperstown Cheese Company labels which contain the company contact information. The FDA reported that the products were recalled due to a potential to be contaminated with Listeria.

A raccoon in the Town of Kortright has tested positive for rabies. This is the third animal in Delaware County to test positive for rabies in 2023. One person was exposed to the rabid raccoon and has begun Rabies Post-Exposure Prophylaxis. No domestic animals were exposed to the rabid raccoon. Public Health recommends that pet owners take advantage of any of the free remaining rabies clinics for cats, dogs, and ferrets in Delaware County.

A noon time thunderstorm caused problems around the region earlier today. 1 tree was down at Route 7 & The I-88 Access Road by Exit 10 in Unadilla, traffic was diverted away from the area, also NYSEG reported about 400 customers were without power in Bainbridge, Afton & Guilford, at around Noon, another 655 were without power in Unadilla after a transformer blew at about 1:20PM, that forced the Unadilla Town Court to postpone tonight's expected Court session.

The Sidney Police Department is investigating numerous incidents of a person going through unlocked vehicles Saturday night. The incidents occurred in the Pearl Street/Glen Ave area of the village. The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 61 year old Ann Herberger of Gilbertsville following a traffic stop on July 17th in the Town of Butternuts. Herberger was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle while Registration is Suspended, & Operating Motor Vehicle without Insurance. Deputies discovered that Herberger was operating a motor vehicle while her driver's license & the Vehicle's Registration was suspended. She will appear in the Town of Butternuts at a later date.

State Police in Binghamton are currently attempting to locate 17-year-old Jason Babcock Jr; who left his residence on Colesville Road in the town of Colesville on June 18th on his bicycle. The bicycle is described as a blue and white "Kent 20" BMX bike. Babcock Jr. is described as a fair skinned white male with dirty blonde hair with a longer crew cut hair style and about 6’ to 6’2” tall. President Biden approved Governor Hochul's request for a Major Disaster Declaration to provide federal assistance to communities impacted by flooding from heavy rainstorms across much of Upstate New York. The declaration releases critical federal assistance to support recovery and reconstruction efforts in Clinton, Dutchess, Essex, Hamilton, Ontario, Orange, Putnam and Rockland counties. These counties now have access to financial support for debris removal, emergency protective measures and repairs to public buildings and infrastructure.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office released the identity of the man found deceased in Fox Hospital Oneonta Bathroom in May. 32 year old Michael Morton of West Winfield died of a drug overdose sometime between May 30th and May 31. The autopsy found fentanyl, oxycodone, and several other substances.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 49 year old Zachary Fuller of Worcester on an arrest warrant issued out of the Town of Worcester Court. Fuller was charged with Grand Larceny, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle & Criminal Contempt, after Deputies investigated the report of a stolen vehicle in April, a warrant was issued, Fuller was later arrested by State Police during a separate incident, he was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to court action.

Officials said that 1 dog was exposed but was vaccinated, it received a booster shot & was treated for wounds suffered from the bobcat. 4 people are also undergoing post rabies exposure treatment, DEC officials were looking a for 2nd possibly rabid bobcat in Unadilla. The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Dennis Nelson was sentenced to additional prison time, as he was found guilty of sending threatening letters to Judge Thomas McAvoy, Then Congressman Anthony Brindisi & US Senator Chuck Schumer, while in State Prison on another charge. Nelson threatened to blow up the Courthouse in Binghamton, Nelson was sentenced to 7 more years in prison and 3 years of supervised release after his incarceration.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 49 year old Edward Williamson for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief and Conspiracy. Williamson was arrested following an investigation of a burglary that occurred in November 2022 in the Town of New Berlin. Williamson was arrested at the Oneida County Correctional Facility, where he was being held on unrelated charges, he was transported back to Chenango County for arraignment & was remanded back to the Oneida County Correctional Facility, he will return to Chenango County at a later date.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 35 year old Brian Worden of Oneonta following a disturbance call. Worden is accused of possessing a controlled substance when police showed up to a disturbance in the Meadows Office Complex Parking lot, Worden was arrested & was issued an appearance ticket.

State Police BCI unit arrested 36 year old Ian Rotunno of Fenton, Thursday for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Rotunno was found in possession of a loaded and illegal rifle when located by law enforcement after a 24 hour manhunt. An investigation revealed that the weapon is a “ghost gun”, plus he is accused of possessing 2 magazines that are not New York State SAFE Act compliant and were loaded with armor piercing ammunition. Rotunno was transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.

An Air Quality Alert was issued today as smoke from wildfires in Western Canada continues to negatively affect air quality. Health Officials recommend that those with breathing issues who may spend time outside, should wear an N95 or KN95 Face mask. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Rick Donnelly after he failed to comply and stop his vehicle after he drove his vehicle in a reckless manner, driving at high rates of speed, onto private property, and damaged private property with his vehicle. Donnelly was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Reckless Endangerment, and Criminal Mischief, Donnelly was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000.00 cash bail.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Megan McGowan of Oxford on 2 counts of Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals & failure to provide proper sustenance after an investigation into an animal complaint. McGowan was charged after it was found that there was a dog on her property that did not have any food or water and was not being cared for properly, Deputies also found a deceased dog in a shed that died from lack of care. McGowan was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Oxford Court at a later date.

Sidney Police Department arrested 33 year old Jesse Terry of Unadilla Wednesday, for criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing a police officer, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving while under the influence of drugs & resisting arrest amon other charges. Sidney Police received an alert about a stolen vehicle out of Oneonta, the vehicle was observed at a car wash, with State Police assisting the traffic stop, Terry did not comply and rammed the Sidney Police car, police pursued along West Main Street, the pursuit ended at the Circle Drive Apartments, where Terry hit 1 of the apartment buildings with the vehicle, he fled into an apartment building and was taken into custody, he was treated at the hospital & was later arraigned in the Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail. More charges are pending.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 41 year old Darren Moscato of Delhi, was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court Monday. The indictment was unsealed, Count One accused Moscato of attempting to endanger the welfare of a child, the other counts accuse him of Attempted Disseminating of Indecent Material to Minors, Engaging in a sexually explicit conversation with a minor with the intention of enticing the child to engage in sexual activity, and for sending explicit pictures to the minor. Moscato was released to the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, pending a conference on July 24th.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 58 year old Mark Seeley of Walton, was sentenced to 2 years in the County Jail for Aggravated Harassment and Criminal Contempt. On September 11, 2022, Seeley, threatened several individuals, the Court issued orders of protection for the victims, Seeley violated the orders of protection multiple times. On May 8th, Seeley agreed to a plea deal in County Court, but on May 31st, State Police were contacted by the victims who had discovered that Seeley posted about the victims on social media. Due to the numerous violations the District Attorney’s Office voided the plea & Seeley was sent to jail.

State Police and other law enforcement agencies continue to search the State Route 79 area and continue to maintain a presence searching for a man that may be a threat to himself and others in Chenango Forks. State Police said that the man may be armed, residents from Route 369 to Richards Road were advised to stay inside, keep their doors and vehicles locked. State Route 79 has been re-opened to traffic. The suspect is described as a white male, with dark hair, approximately 6 foot 1 inches tall and 275 pounds, last seen wearing a black shirt, light-colored pants or shorts and may be wearing glasses. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 51 year old Stacy Coss of Andes for driving while ability is impaired by the use of drugs, and aggravated unlicensed operator. On July 7th, Deputies stopped a motor vehicle in the Town of Andes being operated by Coss, her driving privileges were revoked from a prior DWI and she was operating a motor vehicle in an impaired state. Coss was released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Andes court at a later date.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 43 year old Jeremie Hoyt of Davenport was sentenced to 20 years in state prison for his conviction of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child. Between January and August of 2019, Hoyt engaged in at least 2 sexual acts with a child under 13 years old, he was sentenced to 20 years of in jail followed by 10 years of post-release supervision, he was also ordered to submit a DNA sample to the State DNA data-bank, he was ordered to pay a $1,000 crime victim’s fee & he must register as a sex offender after he is released from prison.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a small plane crash near Norwich Sunday afternoon. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene & was the only occupant of the plane, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office said the pilot was the only occupant of the plane. They were pronounced dead the scene. The investigation has been turned over to the National Safety Transportation Board.

5 municipalities in the Southern Tier were awarded the DEC Municipal Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure grant. Locally, The village of Sidney will receive more than $80,000 to install 2 fast chargers, the village of Fleischmanns will receive more than $7,500 for 2 Level 2 charging ports. The Delaware County DPW announced road work on county Routes 16 and 21 will take place in the coming weeks. Pavement rehabilitation work began today on county Route 21, from at the Walton village line heading north about 6 1/2 miles, that project will be complete by June 30. The department will begin work on county Route 16 on Monday, June 5, starting in Treadwell and progressing to state Route 10 in Fraser. that project should be completed by June 15. Drivers should expect extended delays during this work. Alternate routes are suggested.

The 61st General Clinton Canoe Regatta was held over the Memorial Day Weekend, with over 1500 paddlers ranging in age from 5 to 83, low water & the Hot Sun made things difficult for the 70 mile racers.

The pair finished 1st in the mixed Pro Division & 12th overall, it was Chamberland's 2nd 70 mile finish at the Clinton regatta.

Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation released its report on the death of Roger Lynch on August 6, 2021 in Franklin, which included review of radio transmissions, body-worn camera footage, and interviews. The investigation determined that a prosecutor would not be able to disprove justification beyond a reasonable doubt at trial & criminal charges against the State Trooper who shot Lynch are not warranted. On the evening of August 5th, members of several police agencies responded to a residence on Bob Holloway Road in Delhi, following reports that an individual had been shot, they learned that Lynch had shot multiple times at 1of the residents before driving away, Lynch was found at his house, he came out with a gun aimed under his chin. When the sergeant told him not to shoot himself, Lynch then leveled his shotgun on his shoulder and took aim at a trooper & 1 of the troopers fired his rifle at Lynch, who fell back into the house, where he was pronounced dead.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Clarence Vanier of Laurens after a search warrant was executed at a residence in the Town of Laurens. Vanier was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for a Hallucinogen, among other charges. Deputies were assisting the Oneonta Police Department with a search warrant at which time a large amount of Psilocybin mushrooms were located in the residence. Vanier was being held at the Otsego County Jail pending Central Arraignment.

The State DOT is advising motorists that the off-ramp from I-88 eastbound at Exit 2 in the Town of Fenton, will be closed from 8 pm. to 5 am. for 3 consecutive nights starting tonight through Thursday, June 1. Today, the Governor's Office sent state agencies to Assist Local governments IN Sullivan County following Saturday's Tornado in Callicoon Center and Roscoe. The State Department of Agriculture and Markets Encourages Affected Farms to Contact U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency to Report Damage. The National Weather Service in Binghamton determined the tornado was an EF2, with maximum winds of 115 mph. The tornado traveled 10 miles with a maximum width of 300 yards.

Law Enforcement Agencies around the state are participating in "Operation Safe Stop Day" today, where police officers are checking to see if motorists are stopping for school busses with their flashing lights on, picking up or dropping off students. It is estimated that 50-thousand New Yorkers illegally pass stopped school buses each day that school is in session. Penalties for a first-time offense include a fine of up to 400 dollars, five points on a person's drivers license and possibly 30 days in jail.

The family of Jorge Jimenez, who was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by former Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim in February 2019, has agreed to settle a lawsuit against Boeheim. Terms of the settlement will remain sealed, Jimenez was a passenger in a car that that skidded on Interstate 690 and hit a guardrail. Boeheim was driving home after a game when he swerved to avoid the car and hit Jimenez, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Boeheim was not charged by police investigating the crash.

32-year-old Kyle Packer was arrested by Otsego County Sheriff's deputies following a domestic dispute in Edmeston. Packer allegedly choked a victim & several items were also damaged, he left the scene, but was later arrested on a separate outstanding warrant for allegedly trying to use a fake $100 bill to purchase items at a retail establishment. Packer was charged with Strangulation, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Criminal Mischief, Harassment, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & Petty Larceny, he is being held in the Otsego County Jail pending arraignment.

State Police & other Law Enforcement Agencies are reminding New Yorkers to follow the "Move Over" law, which requires drivers to change lanes away from emergency responders, tow trucks & police vehicles responding to emergencies on the state's highway. The message was announced again after a driver slammed into the back an a van assisting a motorist in the Hudson valley, flipping another vehicle into the air, there were no injuries according to DMV officials. The Move Over Law has been in effect since 2012 in New York State.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Tiger Gould of Unadilla following a warrant investigation for the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Gould was charged with Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, he was issued an appearance ticket in the Town of Unadilla Court at a later date, he was turned over to Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on the Bench Warrant.

The Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Kyle Babola of Johnson City pleaded guilty for killing Scott Groover with a machete in 2021. Babola took a plea deal of 20 years to life before the trial could start, the maximum sentence could have been 25 years to life in prison.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce announced that potential public transportation options for Delaware County will be the topic of a presentation on May 16 at 11:00 am in the Meeting Room of the Delaware County Business Center at 5 ½ Main Street in Delhi. The Chamber has been working with County and State officials, private transportation operators, healthcare and human service organizations, regional employers, and national transportation associations on a 7-month study of public transit options. The State Labor Department released preliminary local area unemployment rates for March. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 4.2% in February to 4.1% in March. Locally, Chenango County had 3.5%, Delaware County 3.9% and Otsego County 3.8% unemploment in March.

Deputies were patrolling Sunday on State Highway 30 in the Town of Colchester, they conducted a traffic stop, Pitre was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Failure to turn in License Plate to DMV, Failure to Notify DMV of Address Change, and several other lesser charges, she was released on the traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date to answer the charge.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 40 year old Denise Wells of Herkimer was convicted of 1 count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, in the Town of Delhi Court Wednesday. Wells was charged after driving erratically through Delhi on December 12th of last year, she eventually drove off the road on State Highway 10, she was under the influence of heroin. Wells was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge, she was also ordered to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, attend and complete an Impaired Driver Program, and attend a Victim Impact Panel, her license was revoked for 6 months, and she was ordered to pay $900 in fines & fees.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a physical injury domestic dispute in the Town of Union. 66 year old Brian Sanks of the Town of Union, had attempted to smother his Girlfriend in her sleep, threatened to shoot her with a pistol, and threatened to use a taser baton on her. Sanks was taken into custody by deputies and an Extreme Risk Protection Order was subsequently issued, several weapons & drug paraphernalia were removed from Sanks residence. Sanks was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, he was arraigned and has remained in custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 2 area residents after they were stopped driving a stolen vehicle. Deputies stopped the vehicle on Oneida Street in Oneonta, it had been reported stolen earlier that day. 45 year old Tressa Becker of Unadilla and 54 year old Michael Hartley were arrested for criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of to controlled substance, deputies seized heroin and fentanyl from the vehicle. Becker was released on an appearance ticket. Hartley was wanted on an active bench warrant and was being held at the Otsego County Jail.

Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force & Binghamton Police executed a narcotic search warrant Wednesday at 111 Oak Street in Binghamton. Police arrested 37 year old Andrew Bethune of Binghamton for criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon & criminally using drug paraphernalia. Police seized A .22 Revolver, Crack Cocaine, Fentanyl, Methamphetamines, $5,481 in cash, & items used in the sale and distribution of controlled substances. Bethune was transported to the Binghamton Police Department for processing.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $8.5 million for essential infrastructure and long-desired community development projects across the Southern Tier. This federal funding was secured by the senators as Congressional directed spending in the end-of-year budget for Fiscal Year 2023. $2,850,000 was confirmed for the City of Norwich Water Main Replacement project, due to begin in April.

43 year old Jeremie Hoyt of Davenport pleaded guilty to 1 count of 1st-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, in Delaware County Court. The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that Hoyt appeared in court for a scheduled hearing on January 17 and instead of moving forward with the hearing, he entered a guilty plea, for performing sexual acts on a child younger than 13 years old on 2 occasions between January and August of 2019. Hoyt will be sentenced to 20 years in jail and 10 years of post-release supervision, he will be required to register as a sex offender, sentencing is scheduled for March 6th.

The Community Cultural center at 1 Bridge Street in Sidney, will be hosting a fundraising event on Saturday January 28th, with music & food, Center Board President Amy Williams said that other fundraisers are likely to follow to keep the Center going forward:

The Admission price will be $15, with proceed benefiting the Community Cultural Center’s future programs.

The American Red Cross will host a Blood Drive in Oneonta Tomorrow. The drive will be held at the Elm Park Church at 401 Chestnut Street from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Appointments can be made with the Red Cross Blood Donor App, at 1-800 RED CROSS or at redcrossblood.org.

The City of Norwich is receiving federal money for the upcoming water Main replacement project downtown, City of Norwich Community Development Director Eric Scrivener told WCDO News where the money is coming from for the $4 Million Dollar project:

The planned project area includes 5,760 feet of piping on South Broad Street, from the Prentice and Broad Street intersection to the Mechanic and Broad Street intersection, and a 640-foot section of East Main Street between the Broad Street intersection and the railroad tracks, the water Main are about 140 years old.

The General Clinton Canoe Regatta Committee held their 2nd meeting in preparation for this year's event, Spokesperson Christine Smith said that last year's big scheduling change will remain in place:

Attorney General Letitia James and State Department of Taxation and Finance Acting Commissioner Amanda Hiller announced the sentencing of 61 year old Carl Carro of Delaware County and 74 year old James Doyle of Westchester County, for operating a Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors in New York and throughout the nation of more than $1 million. Carro pled guilty last October to Money Laundering, Securities Fraud, Scheming to Defraud and Repeated Failure to File Personal Income Tax Returns. Doyle pled guilty to Money Laundering and Scheme to Defraud. Carro was sentenced to 4 to 8 years in prison and Doyle was sentenced to five years' probation, they will pay a total of more than $1 million in judgments to the victims of their scheme. Carro and Doyle solicited investments in their companies, Endeavor Management Solutions and Endeavor Consultancy, from 2012 to December 2020. An audit revealed that investor funds were used for personal expenses.

Preferred Mutual Insurance Company announced that the Preferred Foundation announced it is accepting scholarship applications for 2023 seniors in Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego Counties, for students interested in pursuing a degree in accounting or business. Village of Sidney announced that the water service disruption scheduled for Monday has been postponed until Tuesday, due to Mondays holiday. Starting around 9:00 AM Tuesday, water system customers north of the Susquehanna River along Route 8 and the surrounding areas will experience water service disruptions, until about 4:00 PM. This service disruption is associated with the Village of Sidney’s work to install new water mains under the Unadilla and Susquehanna Rivers.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Kiana Montanez, on an outstanding warrant and asking the residents of Broome County for assistance. Montanez is wanted for Burglary, Bail Jumping, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Justice. The Delaware County Tourism Advisory Board is now accepting applications for funding under the 2023 Local Community Tourism Grant program. This program will provide funding assistance to eligible applicants for projects that seek to attract visitors to Delaware County and enhance the overall tourism industry.
