State Police announced that 61-year-old Michael Crandall from Oxford, succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash between his motorcycle & a school bus Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Chenango County routes 35 & 32 in the town of Oxford. Crandall was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, the school bus had 8 children on board, a 12-year-old child was evaluated at Chenango Memorial Hospital, no other children reported injuries. The unidentified school bus drive & an aid were evaluated at the scene and did not need further treatment, The crash remains under investigation.

19-year-old Darius Palmer of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court Wednesday for the killing of 41 year old Tyrell Norris on September 30th of 2024 in Binghamton. Palmer was arrested in the Bronx in October on an arrest warrant for a separate crime, he was returned to Broome County & was found guilty for 1st degree Manslaughter and on a separate Assault charge , he was also ordered to serve 1 year in Broome County Jail, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision on the assault charge.
The Oneonta Common Council approved spending $230,000 on reconstruction of the Market and South Main streets intersection to fix damage from a water main break last month. The council held a special meeting Tuesday & voted unanimously to allocate the funding.

5 corrections officers appeared in Oneida County Court on Tuesday to discuss plea offers related to the beating death of Robert Brooks, an inmate at Marcy Correctional Facility in December. Earlier this month, a judge informed some of the officers who requested additional time to deliberate that he would need a decision from them this week, none of the officers had reached a conclusion. Attorneys representing the officers cited recently receiving discovery information from the prosecution that morning, which required additional review, they were ordered to return to Oneida County Court on May 13th.
23 year old Dekwaun Hicks of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court to 6 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, for Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon. The charges stem from a June 26, 2024, incident, when members of the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force and the Binghamton Police Department conducted a vehicle stop based on information that Hicks was in possession of a firearm, they recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, ammunition and a quantity of methamphetamine pills. Hicks received additional jail time as he was arrested on a drug charge while out on bail.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Saturday to a burglary complaint at the Big Dipper BBQ 2 restaurant in Conklin, a Review of security footage showed 4 individuals breaking in causing several thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to the door and air conditioning unit of the businesses. Several tubs of ice cream and bottles of soda were taken by the suspects Officers arrested 20 year old Tracy Bryce of Conklin for Criminal Mischief & Burglary, 20 year old Jordan Wilson of for Criminal Mischief and Burglary, 2 juveniles were also charged. Bryce and Wilson were processed and arraigned, the juveniles were processed and arraigned before being released to their families.
Chenango County Department of Public Works announced the closure of the bridge on North Chenango Street over Birdsall Brook in Greene will be closed on May 12th, and will remain closed for 3 to 5 months. Local residents will be allowed to get to and from their homes. More information is available at 337-1710.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Tyrell Adams of Pittsfield on a number of charged following an investigation. Adams was charged with 3 counts of Sexual Abuse, Forcible Touching, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Animal Cruelty & Criminal Contempt. Investigation revealed that over the course of several years, Adams allegedly subjected minors to persistent sexual abuse, Additionally he is accused of killing a family pet near children. Otsego County Family Court issued an order of protection against Adams prohibiting contact with multiple protected parties, he then sent Facebook messages to one of the protected parties. Adams was sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.
Chenango County Health Department reported that a skunk found along State Highway 8 in South New Berlin tested positive for rabies at the State Lab in Albany. The Health Department reminds area residents to make sure that all pets are up to date on the vaccines, more information is available by contacting the Chenango County Health Department at (607) 337-1673

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 29 year old Eugene Buzie of Unadilla for multiple sex offense charges following an investigation. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the addition of charges in to the investigation involving Buzie, On July 19th he was arrested by investigators for multiple sex offense related charges. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the defendant did request, receive and possess a sexual performance by a child through online sources & was charged additionally with Possession of Sexual Performance by a child, Buzie was still incarcerated on the previous charges, he was produced from the Oneida County Correctional Facility to be processed on the new charge, at the Otsego County Correctional Facility and he was returned to the Oneida County Correctional Facility with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Unadilla Court at a later date.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for 40 year old Donald Shurock Jr. A Chenango County Deputy was called to a State Highway 26 in Pitcher Thursday for a suspicious vehicle complaint, the Deputy identified one of the occupants as Shurock, who has active warrants for his arrest. Shurock resisted arrest and fled the scene on foot, causing the Deputy to sustain physical injury. The Deputy was transported to a local hospital and was treated & released. Shurock is described as a white male, approximately 5’8” tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds, balding with short brown hair, brown beard and mustache, wearing a black winter hat, blue/gray Carhartt jacket, jeans, and boots. In addition to the active arrest warrants, Shurock is now wanted on charges of Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. The U.S. Small Business Administration has announced the availability of low interest loans related to storm damage caused by the remnants of tropical Storm Debby, August 8-10. Low-interest disaster loans will be made available to certain Private Non-Profit organizatIons, such as food kitchens, homeless shelters, museums, libraries, community centers, schools and colleges. Eligible PNPs can call the Delaware County Emergency Services Office at (607) 832-5600 or the Delaware County Planning Office (607) 832-5444 to get more information. Also, The Office of Disaster Recovery at the State Department of Homeland Security has scheduled a virtual Applicants Briefing at 10:00 AM on Tuesday October 8th. To register for the Applicants Briefing, go to meetny.webex.com.
Binghamton Police are investigating the fatal shooting of 41 year old Tyrell Norris in his apartment on the city's North Side Monday Night. Norris was wounded by a bullet that was fired during a dispute in the parking lot outside the Town and Country Apartments at 100 Roberts Street. Norris was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City where he was pronounced dead. Police also found out that another man suffered a gunshot wound to a foot about a block away from the Norris shooting at 104 Liberty Street. Norris was "an uninvolved party" who was struck by gunfire while in his residence, anyone with information should call Binghamton police detective division at (607) 772-7080.
42 year old James English pleaded guilty to 2nd Murder today in Broome County Court. On June 6, 2023, English stabbed Jessica Picciano 31 times causing her death, English will be sentenced on January 7, 2025 where he is expected to receive 23-years-to- life-in State Prison.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Lori Devine of Sherburne for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Criminal Nuisance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Devine was charged after an investigation into drug activity, she is accused of selling Methamphetamine and Fentanyl from her residence in the Town of Sherburne, During the execution of the search warrant, Devine attempted to dispose of physical evidence, she was taken into custody, Officers seized Methamphetamine, and Fentanyl. Devine was arraigned & was released on her own recognizance. Devine is to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.
