The Winter storm is ready to leave a significant amount of snowfall on the region today through early Saturday Morning, Local Meteorologist Rich Townsend told WCDO News what to expect:

The Governor's Office announced that the State DOT will be sending extra snowplows to the affected areas of this storm, WCDO will have the CDO Stormwatch this afternoon & again tomorrow with a list of school closings and postponements.
State Police arrested 19 year old Jeffrey Bullis of Unadilla, for Criminal Contempt, Stalking, and Criminal Trespass, after Troopers were dispatched to a report of a physical altercation at the House of Consignment on Main Street in Unadilla. State Police reported that Bullis violated an existing order of protection by entering the business, he is accused of grabbing and shoving a victim, causing the victim to strike a window and door frame, another person intervened & held Bullis down until troopers arrived. The victim went to Tri-Town Hospital for an evaluation of injuries that were sustained during the incident. Bullis was also evaluated at Tri-Town Hospital for a complaint of pain but was released and processed at Troop C, Bullis was issued appearance tickets to the Unadilla Town Court on January 23rd. The investigation is on-going, more charges are possible.
The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in the State increased by 19,600, or 0.2%, to 8,080,000 in November. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 4.3% in November.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced that items from the World Champions Houston Astros is being displayed currently. Artifacts donated by the Astros include a Jersey worn by World Series MVP Jeremy Peña, wristbands & toothpicks from Manager Dusty Baker, a Glove used by outfielder Chas McCormick, spikes from Pitchers Justin Verlander & Ryan Pressly, and a ball thrown by Cristian Javier from the Game 4 combined no-hitter and signed by all 4 Astros pitchers as well as catcher Christian Vázquez.
State Police responded to the report of “shots fired” in the town of Andes, the investigation revealed that a 62-year-old female was injured when she accidentally discharged a semi-automatic rifle, suffering face and hand injuries. The responding trooper applied a tourniquet to subside the heavy bleeding to the victim’s hand, another officer from the Colchester Police Department applied a 2nd tourniquet until EMS arrived and the victim was transported to Bassett Hospital for treatment. Troopers reported that the rifle is not legal in New York State and was not New York Safe Act compliant, 58 year old Richard Geraghty of Andes, was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced he will be running for re-election in 2023. 4 years ago, Korchak lost the Republican primary, but won the election on the Libertarian ticket.
The annual "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, begins today & runs through January 1st. Law Enforcement Agencies across the state are participating, last year 2,077 tickets were issued for impaired driving during the annual initiative.
Unadilla Valley Central School District voters approved a $17.8 million capital project by a vote of 114 to 18. The renovations and improvements will be funded through state aid and an allocation from the district’s reserve funds. The project is expected to be budget neutral, with no anticipated impact on the tax levy.
Area United Way programs are seeing only about 60% of their stated goals for the 2022 year, with donations being accepted through December 31st, Elizabeth Monaco currently heads up the United Way in Chenango, Madison, Delaware & Otsego Counties:

Norwich Police & State Police responded Saturday evening to the report of a victim of an assault arriving at a downtown business asking for help. Police arrested 32 year old Jeffrey Sabines of Oxford, for 1st degree assault & criminal possession of a weapon, 44 year old Jason Lowe of Norwich, for 3 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and 4th degree conspiracy, 45 year old Daniel McCoy of Norwich, for conspiracy, and 37 year old Meredith Conkey of Norwich for obstruction of governmental administration & criminal possession of a controlled substance. Sabines was sent to the Chenango County Correctional facility without bail for violating his parole and for being a repeat offender, Lowe, McCoy, and Conkey were ticketed and released & will appear in Norwich City Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 32 year old Kody MacDonald with Criminal Contempt, for allegedly violating an order of protection from Delaware County Family Court. MacDonald is accused of contacting protected parties in the town of Colchester last week, he was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.
The State Department of Health & the CDC recommend individuals get vaccinated and stay up to date with all recommend doses, as positivity rates for COVID 19 remain around 7 to 12%. Oneonta officials announced that Traffic on East Street on Graduate Drive near the 'S' curve, will be reduced to one lane tonight. The Oneonta Department of Public Works will be installing a water valve at 130 East Street on Graduate Drive, starting at 8:00 PM until the work is completed.

The Susquehanna SPCA is conducting its year-end fundraiser where they are aiming to raise $100,000, with matching contributions from Beth and Gary Glynn, who will donate an additional $5,000 to the shelter for every $20,000 raised up to $100,000. Susquehanna SPCA Director Stacie Haynes told WCDO News how people can donate:

Haynes said that currently they have about 25 cats in house at their Cooperstown facility along with 7 dogs, they are expecting another 30 animals to come in this week. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 30-year-old Michael Vogel of Delhi, back on October 13th, Deputies received a 911 call for a suspicious vehicle located on Hoag Cross Road in the Town of Delhi, they found Vogel, who was found to have operated a motor vehicle with his driving privileges suspended, he was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance and to have an active bench warrant out of the Village of Sidney for failure to appear. Vogel was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation among other charges, he was released & was ordered to appear in court at a later date.
The Delaware Valley Humane Society will be holding a variety of different fundraisers in the near future, after it was announced that they would not be a participant in the Staff Works Save A Life campaign like they did the last 3 years, Society Director Erin Insinga explains:

Morrison said that Reality Check Students will also be cleaning up cigarette butts in East & West Parks in Downtown Norwich on Saturday, which they plan to show to lawmakers to prove that smoking is still a significant problem in Chenango County, where 20% of the population is still smoking.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested of 41 year old Corey Maraglio of Davenport, on November 7th, Deputies received a complaint from a female reporting that her ex-boyfriend had disconnected the power supply to her residence in an attempt to unlawfully evict her in the Town of Davenport. Maraglio was charged with Unlawful Eviction, he was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Davenport Court at a later date to answer for said charge.
The CDC announced today that there have been a total of 28,999 cases of Monkey pox nationwide. New York State has 4144 of confirmed cases, about 14.2% of the cases currently. Locally vaccines can be obtained through the Broome & Otsego County Health Departments

Castillo was stopped by Deputies on November 5th, a check of Castillo’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were revoked. Castillo was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that more than $33 million in Community Development Block Grant funding has been awarded to dozens of municipalities for local infrastructure improvement and housing rehabilitation projects. The City of Oneonta will use more than $200,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds to replace 30 water service laterals for low- to moderate-income households.
There will be 2 American Red Cross Blood Drives locally today. In Oneonta, a drive will be held from 12:00 Noon untl 5:00 PM on the SUNY Oneonta campus in Hunt Hall room 101C. Another drive will be held at the Walton O'Neill High School from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Troopers reported that the SUV struck an embankment and partially overturned, a 3 year-old female died from injuries sustained in the crash, 2 adults & 4 children were taken to a Utica area hospital, all of the occupants were from Rome & are not being identified at this time, The crash remains under investigation.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative throughout Chenango County Tuesday and all businesses checked were in compliance. Some of the businesses that followed the state's laws were B&W Wines & Liquors, of Bainbridge, Mirabito's in Bainbridge & Afton, & Snake Bite Liquors in Afton. During the initiative, retail establishments are checked using a trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operative(s) who, if asked, cannot lie about their age or give a fake date of birth. When asked for their ID they must show their real New York State ID.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 57 mph while in a posted 30 mph speed zone Sunday. Deputies identified the driver as 21 year-old Nicholas Wanamaker of Maybrook, a check of Wanamaker’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Deputies arrested Wanamaker for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Speeding, Wanamaker released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date,

Troopers reported that the SUV struck an embankment and partially overturned, a 3 year-old female died from injuries sustained in the crash, 2 adults & 4 children were taken to a Utica area hospital, all of the occupants were from Rome & are not being identified at this time, The crash remains under investigation.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative throughout Chenango County Tuesday and all businesses checked were in compliance. Some of the businesses that followed the state's laws were B&W Wines & Liquors, of Bainbridge, Mirabito's in Bainbridge & Afton, & Snake Bite Liquors in Afton. During the initiative, retail establishments are checked using a trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operative(s) who, if asked, cannot lie about their age or give a fake date of birth. When asked for their ID they must show their real New York State ID.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 57 mph while in a posted 30 mph speed zone Sunday. Deputies identified the driver as 21 year-old Nicholas Wanamaker of Maybrook, a check of Wanamaker’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Deputies arrested Wanamaker for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Speeding, Wanamaker released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date,

Patient Hospitalizations have been slowly increasing, up to more than 2800, with almost 300 New Yorkers in an ICU & 116 on Ventilators, a 27% increase over a 7 day period. The total number of deaths in Hospitals & nursing homes is 58, 578 since the pandemic began.
Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James today announced a major expansion in usage of New York State's Red Flag Law. Following an executive order and legislation signed by Governor Hochul, courts across the State have issued 1,908 Extreme Risk Protection Orders, more than doubling the number of orders issued since the law became effective in 2019. State Police have applied for 339 orders since the Buffalo Tops Supermarket shooting, that was more than 300% higher than the number of applications made last year, and courts have approved 86.5% of those applications.

On Sunday, New York State extended the Executive Order to continue to maximize the resources available to protect New Yorkers against polio through vaccination. So far. Only 1 case of polio has been identified, but ongoing wastewater surveillance provides evidence of repeated polio-virus detections in sewage samples throughout the state. The latest wastewater results in Brooklyn & Queens, tested by CDC, found samples genetically linked to the case original case in Rockland County. More information is available at health.ny.gov/polio.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Christopher Lacey of Downsville for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident on October 5th on River Road in the Town of Colchester. Deputies reported that the driver left the scene, Walton Police located Lacey, who's driving privileges were revoked for refusing to submit to a chemical test. Lacey was issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

State Police were dispatched Wednesday to check the welfare of a 34-year-old man at a residence on Savitch Road in the town of Chenango. Troopers made contact with the man, who was suffering from a mental health issue and made threats to harm himself. State Police & other First Responders responded, After hours of tactical negotiations, the man exited his residence and was taken into custody without any injuries. He was evaluated by members of Chenango Ambulance Services and was scheduled to receive a mental health evaluation.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies initiated a traffic Stop on September 22nd, in the Town of Middletown. Deputies initially stopped the vehicle and driver for it traveling 77 Miles Per Hour in a posted 55 Mile an hour zone, Steven Mendoza was driving with his driving privileges suspended, he was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Speeding, Unlicensed Operator and Non-Distinctive Plate. Mendoza was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Middletown Court to answer for the charges at a later date.
Delaware County leaders met with federal State & New York City officials on Tuesday, to show that Delaware County is keeping up its end of the bargain regarding the 1995 Watershed Agreement, Watershed Affairs Coordinator Nick Carbone of the Delaware County planning Department told WCDO news about the purpose of calling the meeting:

Deputies observed a vehicle with no taillights on, a traffic stop was conducted & 21-year-old Bushra Turki of Seattle, Washington was driving, the passenger was 26-year-old Mady Sy of the Bronx. Turki's license was suspended, the vehicle had an invalid registration & inspection and did not have insurance. A search of the vehicle was conducted, Deputies located a large quantity of Marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Deputies charged Turki for Operating a Motor Vehicle without an Ignition Interlock Device, Unlicensed Operator, Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Operating without Insurance, along with several other charges, he was released to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date. Sy was charged with 1 count of Unlawful possession of Cannabis.

The investigation revealed that 18 year old William Mettler of Franklin was the driver of the vehicle, he was taken to a hospital, where Deputies secured a blood test to determine Mettler's blood alcohol content, Mettler also had a suspended driver’s license. Last Week, Deputies arrested Mettler for Driving with a BAC of 0.08% or higher, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, as well as other traffic violations, he will appear before the Town of Franklin Court at a later date.

Franklin is accused of subjecting a female under the age of 17 years old to unwanted physical contact, she was arrested without incident, processed, and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Sherburne Court at a later date.

The Bainbridge-Guilford Board of Education voted to honor former soccer coach and technology teacher, Peter Feltham, by naming the soccer field after him, BG Board of Education President Keith Hanvey explains:

Coach Feltham was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and is undergoing treatments. The dedication will be this Friday, People can visit with Coach Feltham at 5:00 PM followed by the dedication at 6:00 PM, followed by the varsity boys’ soccer game at 7:00 PM. Coach Feltham was instrumental in starting the soccer program at B-G 30 years ago and has been involved with the program ever since.
The Broome County’s District Attorney’s Office announced that 23 year old Muhammad Aziz of Johnson City pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a weapon, State Police executed a search warrant at the Aziz residence on June 15th in Johnson City, police confiscated cocaine, methamphetamine and an illegal firearm. Aziz will be sentenced on December 12th.

In Monday's State COVID 19 report, Governor Hochul announced that masking will now be optional in multiple settings, including on public transportation, for-hire vehicles, airports, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, and detention centers. Masks will continue to be required at adult care and health care facilities. In Monday's testing, the positivity rate decreased to 6.95%, the 7-Day Average rate was 6.56%, Patient Hospitalization were down to 2,143, with 230 ICU Patients & 84 on Ventilators, there were 30 deaths in Hospitals & nursing homes from the virus.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle fail to dim its headlights when approaching oncoming traffic Saturday Night. Deputies stopped 20-year-old Louis Manzanares of Uniondale, , whose driver’s license was suspended. The Bainbridge-Guilford Board of Education voted to honor former soccer coach and technology teacher, Peter Feltham, by naming the soccer field after him, BG Board of Education President Keith Hanvey explains:

Coach Feltham was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and is undergoing treatments. The dedication will be this Friday, People can visit with Coach Feltham at 5:00 PM followed by the dedication at 6:00 PM, followed by the varsity boys’ soccer game at 7:00 PM. Coach Feltham was instrumental in starting the soccer program at B-G 30 years ago and has been involved with the program ever since.
The Broome County’s District Attorney’s Office announced that 23 year old Muhammad Aziz of Johnson City pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a weapon, State Police executed a search warrant at the Aziz residence on June 15th in Johnson City, police confiscated cocaine, methamphetamine and an illegal firearm. Aziz will be sentenced on December 12th.

In Monday's State COVID 19 report, Governor Hochul announced that masking will now be optional in multiple settings, including on public transportation, for-hire vehicles, airports, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, and detention centers. Masks will continue to be required at adult care and health care facilities. In Monday's testing, the positivity rate decreased to 6.95%, the 7-Day Average rate was 6.56%, Patient Hospitalization were down to 2,143, with 230 ICU Patients & 84 on Ventilators, there were 30 deaths in Hospitals & nursing homes from the virus.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle fail to dim its headlights when approaching oncoming traffic Saturday Night. Deputies stopped 20-year-old Louis Manzanares of Uniondale, , whose driver’s license was suspended. Deputies arrested Manzanares for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Dim Lights and Uninspected Motor Vehicle, he was released and is scheduled to appear before the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 56-year-old Carolyn Brenna of Colchester, back on August 29th, after Deputies received a complaint from a female party where people on her property and refused to leave. Brenna allegedly purchased alcoholic beverages for minors, which they consumed at her residence, became intoxicated, resulting in the disturbance. Deputies charged Brenna with 2 counts of Criminal Nuisance 1 count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, she was processed and released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Nicholas & Terry DeCutler were arraigned in Otsego County Court Monday on 2nd degree Murder charges. The Brothers are accused of fatally stabbing 24 year old Kaleb O'Neill in an alleyway at Dietz Street in Oneonta on Memorial Day. The DeCutler's were being held on Bail in the Otsego County Jail pending a court appearance on September 19th.
Delaware County Sheriff's deputies arrested Melanie Moore of New Jersey for failing to stop at a stop sign on Townsend Street in Walton. Moore's driving privileges had been suspended, she was charged with Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle, she faces court action at a later date.
The Delaware County Fair had a successful 1st day Monday at the Fairgrounds in Walton, Spokesman Jason Craig said that the rides on the midway are ready to go today:

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that all SNAP households will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for the month of August. the additional allotment will result in a $234 million to eligible families, households already near or at the maximum benefit level will receive an additional payment of $95 this month.
Norwich Middle School Principal Michelle Osterhoudt, has accepted the position of Superintendent of the Margaretville School District. Osterhoudt, of Oneonta will take over as the Margaretville Superintendent for the start of the new school year, she had served in the Norwich district for several years, she also served on the Oneonta Common Council and served various capacities for the Oneonta NAACP.
The State DEC has expanded its Drought Watch to about 2/3rds of the state's land, as dry weather conditions continue. The watch now includes all of the counties south of the Mohawk River Valley, & excludes those in the Adirondacks, Eastern Great Lakes, Westchester County & New York City. DEC Officials are encouraging residents in affected counties, particularly those dependent on private groundwater wells, to conserve water whenever possible during the coming weeks. No mandatory restrictions are in place under a state drought watch.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 35-year-old Jason Johnson of Nineveh has been found guilty of attempted murder & several other charges for the shooting of State Trooper Becky Seager on June 9th , 2021. Troopers responded to East Windsor Road for a welfare check, Trooper Becky Seager was shot in the hip, which was followed by a 19-hour manhunt, Johnson was found the next day at State Route 79 near the Susquehanna River in the town of Colesville.
Delaware County Sheriff's office have arrested 47 year old James Amato of Colchester, back on July 12th, Deputies responded to a trespass in progress, where Amato is accused of entering a gated property after being told he was not allowed there. On August 10th, Deputies arrested Amato for Criminal Mischief & Criminal Trespass, he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Andes Court on a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Amanda Nodine of Delhi & 25-year-old Chance Byington of Colchester, after Deputies received a call Sunday from a Home owner reporting that his personal property in the Town of Delhi had been set on fire. Deputies charged Nodine with Criminal Contempt for Violating an active Order of protection, plus 1 count each of Arson & Criminal Mischief. Deputies charged Byington for Criminal Mischief & Arson. Nodine was arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court, an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim, and she was released in her own recognizance will appear in Town of Delhi Court at a later date. Byington was also released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
State Police arrested 18 year old Noe Casas-Aguilar of Binghamton and a 17-year-old juvenile for 2 counts of 1st degree Burglary, 2 counts of 1st degree Robbery plus Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Reckless Endangerment. Troopers were dispatched Sunday Morning to a residence on Bevier Street in the town of Dickinson for a report of 2 males that broke into an occupied home. The suspects fled the area and were located later in Binghamton and were arrested. Casas-Aguilar was transported to Broome County Jail for Central Arraignment and Processing. The 17-year-old was transported to Oneida County Correctional Facility.
New York State has about 170,000 Monkeypox vaccines that are ready to be distributed, about 80,000 will go to the upstate counties, According to US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand:

Symptoms of Monkeypox include a new, unexplained rash that develops into hard, round, fluid-filled skin lesions, along with Fever, Swollen lymph nodes, Muscle aches & Chills, over 1300 cases have been found in New York, about a quarter of all nationwide cases. Vaccine locations can be found at health.ny.gov.
Binghamton police arrested 38 year old Carheem Felton of BInghamton, for the shooting of an individual at the Northside Deli on Chenango Street Tuesday afternoon. Felton was charged with Attempted Murder, & possession of a weapon, Police recovered a 9mm ghost gun , anyone with information is asked to contact Binghamton Police at 772-7080.

The agreement passed with 80% approval, it runs until April 1st 2026, it includes raises in each year of the agreement of 2% for the first 2 years and 3% for the remaining 3 years.

State Police were dispatched Sunday Night to Parker Hollow Road near Sunshine Mountain Road in the town of Sidney to a single vehicle crash, where a vehicle went off the roadway, struck a tree and became engulfed in flames. The victim has been identified as 58 year old Tammy Oefelein of Bainbridge, her dog also died in the accident.
The Delaware County Fair will begin on August 15th this year at the Fairgrounds in Walton, Fair Spokesman Jason Craig said that this year, they are preparing for a return to pre-pandemic levels of activity:
