Chenango county sheriff’s department Detectives arrested 23 year old Devan Ellsworth of Norwich for one count 3rd degree Burglary Thursday. Ellsworth was arrested following a reported Burglary to the Adult World store in the Town of Norwich at approximately 5:30 am Thursday morning, he was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $ 20,000.00 cash bail, The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and charges are pending.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputy’s investigated a 1 car motor vehicle accident Thursday on State Highway 30 in the Town of Colchester. 18 year old Loren Early of Downsville lost control of his vehicle striking the guide rails twice before going into a ditch flipping the vehicle on to its roof. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division arrested 23 year old Alexander Phelan of Bainbridge for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The Sheriff’s Office seized Heroin, Marihuana, Prescription Medication, Scales, Packaging Material, and Cash; Phelan was arraigned in the Town of Bainbridge Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail.

Delaware county department of Public Works will need to close off the main street bridge in Sidney for 4 days, starting next Tuesday, in order to repair a pothole issues that involves the concrete deck under the asphalt. County DPW Commissioner Wayne Reynolds explains:

Roberts is accused of using stolen credit cards, he was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango county jail on $1000 cash bail. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending following the examination of evidence.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a one-car accident on State Highway 206 in the Town of Colchester. 22-year-old Larissa Hughes of Walton lost control of her vehicle and went into the ditch; she traveled 75 yards and flipped over twice before coming to a rest. Hughes was not injured; she was ticketed for failure to keep right.
State Financial Services officials announced a set of nation-leading reforms to help protect consumers against abusive and deceptive debt collection practices. The reforms propose to cut down on repeat harassing phone calls; guard against the collection of ‘zombie debts’ that have already expired; prevent companies from trying to collect debts from the wrong consumer for the wrong amount of money due to poor record keeping, The proposed regulation will be published in the state register shortly and will be subject to a 45-day notice and comment period.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame Weekend is today through Sunday in Cooperstown, featuring the Awards Presentation Sunday. The inductions of pioneering umpire Hank O’Day, former Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert and 19th Century star Deacon White will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Clark Sports Center, they will also pay tribute to 12 individuals previously counted among the Hall’s roster of members who never had a formal induction due to wartime restrictions. The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be live on MLB Network.
The Norwich Bluegrass Festival has been a summer staple in the area for more than two decades. This year’s event will take place today through Sunday at the Chenango County Fairgrounds, in Norwich. Friday and Saturday tickets are available at the gate for a $25 fee. Promoters anticipate many attendees from outside the area from as far away as Florida, Tennessee & North Carolina, in addition to the local area residents. Music will begin Friday at noon, with an open mike, followed by various popular bluegrass bands.

FEMA announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to New York to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms and flooding on June 28th to July 4th. The President's action makes federal funding available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storms and flooding in several counties, including Chenango, Delaware, & Otsego counties.
Police in Chenango County reported that 33-year-old Jeremy Edmonds of Milford New Jersey was killed in an ATV accident Saturday night on Brown Road in the town of Sherburne. Police reports said that 25 year old Mark Brong of High Bridge New Jersey lost control of the ATV, both Brong & Edmonds were ejected, Brong was in critical condition in a Utica area hospital, Edmonds as pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Governor Cuomo announced that 486 drivers had been ticketed by State Police for distracted during the July 4th weekend. The number of accidents in the U.S. caused by cell phone use has tripled over the past seven years. In New York State alone there was a 143% increase in cellphone-related accidents between 2005 and 2011. Governor Cuomo has also directed the DMV to strengthen penalties for distracted driving by raising the number of points issued against a driver's license for distracted driving has increased from two to five.
Motorists are advised that Prospect Mountain construction work will affect many Binghamton city streets between at 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily today to Friday. Motorists can expect disruptions on Mygatt Street between Prospect Street and LaGrange Street, As well as Front Street between Prospect Street and Bevier Street & Prospect Street in the vicinity of the new Prospect Connector & on Chenango Street between Moffatt & Sturges. Power was arraigned in the Town of Andes Court and released on his on recognizance, he will appear in the Town of Colchester Court on July 16th.

Johnson City Police arrested 43 year old Christopher T. Davis of Johnson City and charged him with second degree murder. Davis allegedly killed his downstairs neighbor, 50 year old Patricia LaCaprara Monday in the course of an apparent burglary at 36 Brown St. in Johnson City. Davis was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility. Also arrested in the course of the investigation was 20 year old Binghamton resident Zachary Franks, who was charged with several warrants. Police are still investigating if Franks had any involvement in the case. Davis and Franks told authorities they are relatives. The annual Gus Macker 3 on 3 basketball tournament will be held this weekend in Norwich. The event features over 400 teams from ages 7 to 50 plus and brings thousands of spectators to the area. Organizer Tom Revoir said they are still in need of Gus Buster volunteers....

Andrew Cuomo's education reform agenda, will enlist 250 math and science teachers from four regions this fall to mentor early-career educators. Under the program, the selected participants will receive $15,000 a year for four years. Applications are availale now online at www.suny.edu/MasterTeacher.

The meeting will be held at the Colchester Town Hall located at 72 Tannery Road, Colchester, at 7:00 PM. The bridge has been in use for 60 years and DOT inspectors have determined that it needs to be replaced. Three alternatives will be discussed at the meeting.
The 124th Afton Fair and Agricultural Exposition begins on Thursday with gates opening at 9am tomorrow morning. Activities through out the fair include Animal exhibits, Children's activities, Harness Racing, the Youth Dairy Show. The K Bar F Rodeo is Thursday night, I-88 Speedway racing on Friday night, The Open Horse Show on Saturday and Sunday, and Kaitlyn Jackson performs Saturday night with fireworks to follow at dark, and Sunday will feature the Afton Fair Idol Contest, along with the Catskill Garden Tractor pullers and T.O.Y.S. Gov. Andrew Cuomo will consider calling the state Legislature back to Albany if the federal government does not quickly dispatch relief funds to the severely flooded parts of upstate. Persistent rain in recent weeks caused rivers and streams throughout the state to overflow, flooding counties throughout the Albany area, central New York, the Southern Tier and the North Country. During a briefing on the damage in Herkimer County on Sunday, Cuomo said he would push for President Obama to declare the flooded sites “disaster areas,” which would allow for the distribution of emergency federal funds. If the federal government does not respond, he will convene a special session.
New York Senator Charles Schumer announced Monday that New York State will be a participant in the USDA Greek Yogurt Pilot Program. The USDA released a solicitation to purchase Greek yogurt for delivery to participating schools in the upcoming School Year. Schools in New York, Tennessee, Idaho, and Arizona will be participating in the program. Bids are due on July 22 and the FSA expects to evaluate the bids and make awards by the end of July.
State Senator Jim Seward Announced a 250 Thousand dollar state grant for medical equipment and to help complete renovations at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta. The grant will assist in the purchase of wall mounted computers and scanners to be used in single occupance patient rooms.
The Village of Bainbridge Planning Board will hold a special meeting Wednesday night to consider a site plan review for 2-4 Whitney Way in Bainbridge, the location where a fire recently destroyed the Upturn Industries building. The Meeting will be held at 7pm inside the Bainbridge Village Clerk's Office. The meeting is open to the public.
The New York State Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting to discuss the replacement of the State Route 30 and 206 bridge over the East Branch Delaware River in the town of Colchester. The meeting will take place at the Downsville Fire Station this Wednesday at 7pm. The DOT said the bridge was constructed in 1953 and is nearing the end of it's service life.

The Norwich City Police Department are removing the body of a woman found near the Norwich Wal-Mart, in an area that they have been searching in since they found the gold Pontiac owned by 51 year old Krista Kosowky of Norwich. Kosowsky was reported missing by her husband after failing to show up for work on Friday in Clinton, a Police Canine unit discovered the body in water near a railroad right-of-way this morning, the woman’s identity and cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
The national weather service in Binghamton has once again posted a Flood Warning today through tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM, for in the area of the Chenango River At Norwich. Officials said that the Chenango River At Norwich Will Continue To Recede Today And Tonight, Before Dropping Below Flood Stage On Thursday Morning. Some flooding may still be experienced today at on the Streets and in the yards Of Homes On East Main Street Near The Chenango County Fairgrounds as well as Within The Fairgrounds. East Main Street was reopened to traffic this morning, but the 2nd annual music & balloon festival scheduled for tomorrow July 4th at the Chenango county fairgrounds in Norwich has been cancelled due to the flooding, organizers will announce alternate plans for the event shortly.
State police will be out in full force for the July 4th holiday weekend. Patrols will be looking for speeders, drunk, drugged or aggressive drivers, those using cell phones for calling or texting while driving, they are also looking for all motorists & passengers to use their seat belts.

Oneonta police charged 56-year-old Patricia Bennet of Oneonta with driving while ability impaired by alcohol and unsafe backing, after she allegedly backed her SUV into 8 Hazel Street Monday night. No injuries were reported, the residence is owned by Oneonta city judge Lucy Bernier, Bennet will appear in Oneonta city court at a later date.
The New York State DOT will hold a public information meeting on July 10th to discuss a project to replace a bridge on State Route 30 & 206 over the East Branch Delaware River in the Town of Colchester. The meeting will be held at the Colchester Town Hall located at 72 Tannery Road, Colchester, at 7:00 PM. The bridge has been in use for 60 years and DOT inspectors have determined that it needs to be replaced. Three alternatives will be discussed at the meeting.

The national weather service in Binghamton has once again posted a Flood Warning today through tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM, for in the area of the Chenango River At Norwich. Officials said that the Chenango River At Norwich Will Continue To Recede Today And Tonight, Before Dropping Below Flood Stage On Thursday Morning. Some flooding may still be experienced today at on the Streets and in the yards Of Homes On East Main Street Near The Chenango County Fairgrounds as well as Within The Fairgrounds. East Main Street was reopened to traffic this morning, but the 2nd annual music & balloon festival scheduled for tomorrow July 4th at the Chenango county fairgrounds in Norwich has been cancelled due to the flooding, organizers will announce alternate plans for the event shortly.
State police will be out in full force for the July 4th holiday weekend. Patrols will be looking for speeders, drunk, drugged or aggressive drivers, those using cell phones for calling or texting while driving, they are also looking for all motorists & passengers to use their seat belts.

The General Clinton Canoe Regatta is expected to once again draw thousands of people to the region over the Memorial Day weekend again this year. One of the highlights this year will be the 2nd annual regatta Hall of Fame dinner & ceremony, Regatta chairman John Harmon comments:

The arrest resulted from another complaint, which occurred in the Town of Colchester, Thill was taken into custody and turned over to the Nassau County Police.
Oneonta Troopers arrested 30-year-old Zujeily Ganio of Mount Vision for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC of .13%. The arrest resulted from a vehicle and traffic stop in Oneonta, she was issued tickets returnable in the Town of Oneonta Court on May 21st.
Congressman Chris Gibson announced this morning that he voted in support of the 2013 federal 5 year Farm Bill. Provisions in the bill include a safety net for dairy producers through a new marginal insurance framework, Promotion and improvement of local agriculture markets, risk management options that level the playing field for specialty crop producers, support for organic farmers and specialty research, The Senate Agriculture Committee passed their version of the Farm Bill Tuesday, both versions now must pass their respective houses, and head for conference committee action.
Governor Cuomo announced today that a 14-day statewide “Buckle Up New York” campaign to crack down on drivers and their passengers who are not wearing seat belts will be conducted by law enforcement agencies shortly. The latest campaign will run from Monday May 20th through June 2nd. “Buckle Up New York” is part of the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign. During this year’s campaign, law enforcement agencies that share state borders will team up in what is being called “Operation Border to Border” to provide increased seat belt enforcement at border sites.

State troopers in Oneonta arrested 26-year-old Alexandria Benson of Schenectady, for Driving While Intoxicated. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on County Route 56 in the town of Maryland; Benson was issued tickets returnable in the Town of Maryland Court on May 21st.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 29 year old Chelsea Dunphy of Downsville on a criminal summons issued by Colchester Town Court. Dunphy will appear in court today at 2:30 PM. The criminal summons was issued on charges of 2nd degree Aggravated Harassment.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 45 year old Lisa Knipper of Kortright on a Bench Warrant for failure to pay fine issued by the Town of Kortright Court. She was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $650 cash bail & was ordered to re appear on May 15th.

The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 21-year-old Gregg Goodrich of Greene for Driving While Intoxicated and Driving with a Blood Alcohol level greater than .08%. Deputies responded following a report from a civilian of an intoxicated driver. Goodrich was issued appearance tickets for the Town of Greene Court at a later date.
Motorists are advised that State Route 17 eastbound between exit 71 Airport Road and exit 72 Front Street will be reduced from 3 lanes to 1 lane to allow for placement of concrete barrier. This work will be performed today between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputy’s arrested 23-year-old Justin Bolivar of Walton on a Bench Warrant issued by Town of Colchester Court, for failure to pay fine. Bolivar was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correction Facility in lieu of $205 fine and surcharge is paid or he will be returned to the Court on May 7th.
Sidney village officials announced that today & tomorrow, old appliances, metal or tires might be dropped off at the village garage at 28 Sherman Avenue. The event runs from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, items accepted will be computer items, fax machines, cell phones, microwaves, gaming systems, clean metal, tires, and appliances.
