The City of Oneonta announced that a contractor working for Firstlight Fiber will be installing new underground fiber cable on Ford Avenue between the intersection of Main St. and the Community Bank driveway entrance, starting at 7:00 AM until the Work is completed. The road will be closed to one lane of traffic with flaggers and temporary no parking will be implemented for both sides of the roadway throughout construction. State Troopers initiated a traffic stop Sunday on a vehicle for moving unsafely from its lane. Troopers observed a pill container in the vehicle driven by 43 year old Adam Morley of Deposit, the contents was later identified as oxycodone. Troopers also discovered methamphetamine and a pump action shotgun that had been reported stolen in South Carolina. Morley was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the passenger, 27 year old Taylor Fineout of Hancock, was found in possession of a 30-round illegal high-capacity ammunition magazine, as well as methamphetamine, he was charged with Unlawful Possession of an Ammunition Feeding Device, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Both individuals were processed and were released on appearance tickets for Deposit Town Court on May 4.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced New York State Police and local law enforcement patrols will be increased through St. Patrick’s Day to combat drunk, impaired and reckless driving. This annual traffic safety enforcement period will begin on Monday, March 9, and run through Tuesday, March 17.? During last year's St. Patrick's Day impaired driving enforcement operation, officers statewide arrested 1,224 people for DWI, issued 10,314 tickets for speeding and issued 55,661 tickets in total.?

State Police announced that Marc Barbera of Oneonta is now leading the State Police at Troop D in Oneida. His appointment took effect on February 26th, Troop D covers seven Central New York counties, serving 167 towns, 89 villages, and 5 cities. Barbera joined the State Police in 2000.

State Police arrested 21 year old Colby Gravelin for Grand Larceny, Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Troopers observed a vehicle with vehicle and traffic infractions, a traffic stop was initiated, Gravelin failed a Field Sobriety Test, Gravelin was found to be in possession of suspected illegal drugs. Troopers learned that Gravelin was a suspect in a larceny from Home Depot in Oneonta in December, where he allegedly left the store with about $1700 in merchandise without paying for it, Gravelin was issued appearance tickets for the Oneonta City Court & Oneonta Town Court at later dates.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office & the City of Oneonta Police Department, arrested 41 year old Nakia Facey of Oneonta following the execution of a search warrant. Facey was found to be in possession of a firearm while being prohibited to do so due to a court order, he was taken into custody and was charged with Criminal Contempt, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Firearm & was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.

18 year old Kenneth Santiago-Pepin of Johnson City, was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and was sentenced to a state prison term of 6 years, followed by 5 years of post release supervision. On January 30th, Johnson City Police responded to 22 Sanford Street for a report of shots fired, Santiago-Pepin approached the residence, produced a handgun, and fired at the building multiple times, officers apprehended Santiago-Pepin after a brief chase on foot, Police found that he possessed a 2nd weapon.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Justin Quakenbush of Oneonta Monday for Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer and Reckless Endangerment. Deputies arrested Quackenbush following a report of a stolen vehicle, Deputies were able to locate the stolen vehicle in the City of Norwich, they initiated a traffic stop and Quackenbush failed to comply and led Deputies on a pursuit through the City and into the Town of New Berlin. Quackenbush stopped in South New Berlin where he was taken into custody, he was transported back to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office for processing and was arraigned & he was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 bail.

The City of Oneonta announced a Traffic Alert regarding the Lettis Highway Lane Closures. Starting today, motorists can expect northbound lane closures on Lettis Highway (Route 23) between Fair Street and Main Street for approximately two weeks while drainage work is underway as part of State DOT's Oneonta Roundabout project. The State DEC announced $342,500 in grants were awarded to 17 municipalities across the state to purchase or lease zero-emission light- and medium-duty fleet vehicles as part of the Municipal Zero-Emission Vehicle Rebate Program. The 2024 round of the program is making 17 awards to municipalities, Recipients of the 2024 rebate awards include the City of Binghamton, with $15,000 for 3 battery electric vehicles & the Town of Oneonta, with $7,500 for one battery electric vehicle.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued through 6:00PM tonight, with the smoke from the Catskills wildfires spreading north to the Capital region and west into Delaware & Schoharie Counties & contiguous Counties. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. New York State has implemented a statewide burn ban in effect until November 30 due to increased fire risk.

The Baking Innovation Lab is part of a Dietz Street development, which includes 64 units of affordable housing. The project received $1,470,000 in funding from the City’s $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative award.

The Otsego County Board of Elections announced that Early Voting for the November 5 General Election will begin October 26 through November 3 at the Foothills Performing Arts Center, on Market Street in Oneonta & at The Meadows Office Complex, at 140 County Highway 33W in Cooperstown. Polls will be open from 9 am. to 5 pm. on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Polls will be open from 12 to 8 pm. on Tuesday and Thursday. The Delaware County Historical Association annual meeting will be held on Sunday, November 3rd at 1:00 PM in the large gallery at the Association's facility in Delhi. The Delaware County Board of Supervisors will have an official ribbon cutting ceremony at the new DPW Administration Building at 2 Bridge Street in Delhi at 12:00 PM Today. The new office building houses the DPW administrative staff along with the Planning and Watershed Affairs offices. Remaining on Page Avenue in Delhi is the DPW material storage yard, the fueling station, the bridge fabrication shop and the salt shed. The new patrol building in Bloomville will allow for greater access to roads in the northern part of the county for maintenance and snow removal. The new mechanics facility in the Town of Walton will be for car and heavy equipment repair.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Jacob Nack of Oneonta for Promoting Prison Contraband. Nack is accused of not taking his medications properly while in the Otsego County Correctional Facility, he was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

A ribbon cutting will be held for the Hartwick College Baking Innovation Lab on Dietz Street in downtown Oneonta this morning at 11 am. This unit of the Hartwick Center for Craft Food and Beverage will provide world-class research and hands-on learning.
