State police reported that there has been a shooting on Route 7 near Peak Fitness in the town of Bainbridge earlier this afternoon, with injuries reported. State police said that the suspect has been arrested and is in custody. They advise that motorists stay away from Route 7 near the Peak Fitness area as the investigation & evidence Gathering is continuing.   Police believe that the shooter acted alone.

New York State Public Health has launched a new state information line to answer questions on Ebola. The info line is free and trained staff will answer questions 24/7, at 1-800-861-2280.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 37 year old Dawn Bermel of Queens on a bench warrant issued by Town of Colchester Court for Speeding, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Operating a Motor vehicle while Impaired by Drugs and Driving While Intoxicated. Bermel was arraigned in Town Of Colchester Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1500 cash bail or $5000 bond. Bermel is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Colchester Court on November 4th.
Hospitals and healthcare facilities across the state have a chance to receive additional funding, through a new program called the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment program. A survey by the NY Association for Pupil Transportation suggests more than 17,000 drivers passed a stopped school bus on October 21st. The survey was completed as part of National School Bus Safety Week. The survey involved 18 school districts across New York. The NPAPT said if the survey was expanded to the 50,000 busses on the road everyday in New York that would amount to 17,824 illegal passes on that single day. The NYAPT is calling upon the State Legislature and the Governor to enact legislation to allow the installation of Camera technology on school buses to enable law enforcment to apprehend illegal passers and issue tickets and fines

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 51-year-old James Warren of Hamden on Robbery and Assault charges following a domestic incident in Delhi at approximately 6:30 Wednesday morning. Warren was charged with 3rd degree Robbery, & 3rd degree assault; he is accused of forcibly stealing property from the victim and then assaulting the victim during a domestic dispute.   Warren was arraigned in the Town of Kortright Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $1500 cash bail pending his appearance in the Town of Delhi Court at a later time.


The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Seized more than 50 Marihuana Plants & dried Processed Marihuana In The Town of Hancock. Investigators Arrested 58 Year Old James Nelson Of Colchester for criminal Possession of Marijuana & Unlawful Cultivation of marihuana, he is accused of growing & processing Marijuana near his residence; he was issued an appearance ticket for town of Hancock court on September 29th & was released.


Governor Cuomo announced that the maximum & minimum rates for weekly Unemployment Insurance benefits would increase on October 6th. The minimum rate will increase from $64 to $100 and the maximum rate will increase from $405 to $420.   Under state reforms, the maximum benefit rate for claimants will increase annually until it reaches 50 percent of the average weekly wage in New York State. The minimum will remain at $100.


State Police arrested 22-year-old Patrick Parker of Laurens for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable BAC result of .18%, more than twice the legal limit.   The arrest resulted from a routine traffic stop County Route 11 in Laurens; troopers accuse Parker of driving while intoxicated. Parker was issued tickets returnable in the Town of Laurens Court on October 2nd.


Attorney General Eric Schneiderman backed a federal proposal designed to ensure that the nation's lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands receive proper protection under the federal Clean Water Act. A coalition of 8 states submitted comments to the EPA & the Army Corps of Engineers on their joint Waters of the United States Proposed Rule, which seeks to clarify what types of waters are covered by the Clean water Act, following 2 recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions that led to uncertainty among businesses, citizens, and municipalities as to their obligations.


The State University of New York said $710,000 has been awarded for materials and advanced manufacturing research. This is the first round of funding, from the SUNY Materials and Advanced Manufacturing Network of Excellence. The award was granted to nine collaborative projects on seven SUNY campuses, including SUNY Binghamton. The money will be used to support the state's manufacturing sector, by bringing faulty and student researchers together with industry experts, to encourage the development and commercialization of their work.


A state judge has ruled a New York referendum, on the creation of a new redistricting commission, must be reworded to delete language describing the proposed panel as "independent" because it would be misleading to voters. Supreme Court Justice Patrick McGrath said top legislators would appoint most members of the commission and lawmakers could reject the commission's proposals and substitute its own. His ruling orders the Board of Elections to remove the word "independent" to prevent voters from thinking the commission would be free from political influence. The referendum will be on the November ballot

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation of a Thursday morning 10:00am two car head-on collision on Cat Hollow Road in the Town of Colchester that claimed the life of one person and seriously injured four others. The accident claimed the life of 48-year-old William Sharpless of Nineveh and seriously injured four Bronx, NY, residents. Preliminary investigation revealed that Sharpless was struck head-on by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 30 year old Crest Wood of Bronx. Wood, 34 year old Alnie Chisholm, 19-year-old Georgette King and 21-year-old Yolanda Jones, all of Bronx, NY, were seriously injured and were taken to Westchester Medical Center. Deputies are asking any witnesses to call 746-2336.

One man was killed and 4 other people were critically injured in a serious two-car motor vehicle accident in the town of Colchester on Thursday morning, The crash occurred at about 10 AM on County Highway 7, Delaware County deputies & state police responded, the male driver of one of the vehicles was killed, 4 occupants in the other vehicle, were critically injured & transported to trauma centers in the Hudson valley region. The names of those involved in the accident are being withheld until notification is given to the families, the investigation is continuing.
A mid-level appeals court reversed a lower court’s decision to throw out petition signatures of a Republican state Senate candidate. The state Supreme Court Appellate Division ruled the lower court erred in rejecting the petitions of Tioga County businessman Denver Jones, who is seeking to unseat State Senator Tom Libous of Binghamton. On August 1st the state Board of Elections determined 743 of the 1,713 signatures Jones submitted in July were invalid due to residency issues and other problems. The new order states a total of 203 signatures are reinstated, giving Jones more than required 1,000 signatures. The decision is not final, the case was sent back to the lower court for further proceedings.
The Delaware County Department of Corrections announced that the 4th annual Andrew Brown Memorial Golf Tournament would be held tomorrow at Hardwood Hills gold Course in Masonville, with a tee time of 8:30 AM. Organizers announced that the money raise with this years tournament will go to the family of Johnson City Police officer David Smith, who was shot & killed in the line of duty on March 31st.

Governor Cuomo's campaign will not appeal a ruling allowing Zephyr Teachout to remain in the Democratic primary. A state appeals court rejected the campaign's argument that Teachout has spent part of the past five years in Vermont. A lower court had already ruled Teachout could stay on the ballot for the September 9th primary. Teachout teaches at Fordham University Law School in New York City. A recent Quinnipiac University poll found 85 percent of state Democrats said they know too little about Teachout to have any opinion of her.
The Binghamton Mets clinched their second straight postseason berth as a result of the New Britain Rock Cats' 10-1 loss to Richmond Thursday night. The berth marks Binghamton's 8th trip to the postseason in franchise history, winning the Eastern League Championship in 1992 and 1994.
The Drug Enforcement Administration will enforce tighter control over prescriptions of the painkiller hydrocodone. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer said hydrocodone would be moved from a Schedule III drug to a Schedule II in 45 days. This will mean greater restrictions in how doctors can prescribe the drug as well as the quantity that can be prescribed. According to the DEA, nearly seven million Americans abuse controlled-substance prescription medications, including opioid painkillers that contain hydrocodone.

The Chenango county sheriff's department arrested 20-year-old Thomas Knickerbocker of Sherburne on charges of 2nd degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act, Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Knickerbocker was charged in the Town of North Norwich, he is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a 13-year-old victim in a vehicle & sending indecent material to the victim through the Internet; he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 50-year-old Eric Lagarde of Colchester for Unlawful Imprisonment & Forcible Touching. The charges were the result of allegations made following a domestic incident in the Town of Hamden; He was arraigned & was released pending further Court Action.
The concert celebrating the 75th anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame for August 2nd at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown has been canceled. The concert was scheduled for this Saturday with Hunter Hayes, Paul Simon, & Bernie Williams among others. New York drivers are breaking the law unknowingly, as license plate holders are illegal if it obstructs the portion that says New York, or blocks any number on the plate. Drivers can be ticketed for the holders some car dealers put on, but State Police said it's not common to get pulled over just for your license plate cover, but it can happen.
Oneonta Mayor Dick Miller has called a special meeting of the Common Council for tonight at 7:00 PM. The meeting was called to discuss the city manager search committee and whether membership of the committee will be expanded to include community members. The meeting will be held in Common Council chambers at City Hall and the public is welcome.
