State Police released the names of the people involved in a 2-car Head-On crash in the Town of Columbus Saturday. 27 year old Bradley Prosser of Sherburne was the driver of the first vehicle that crossed into the opposing lane and crashed head on into a 2nd vehicle. Prosser was pronounced dead at the scene, he had a .23 BAC according to the autopsy report. Prosser’s passenger, 26 year old Tasha Carney of Edmeston suffered minor injuries from the crash. The driver of the 2nd vehicle was 46 year old Shannon Donnelly-Travis of Schuyler Lake; she was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, for a fractured arm and leg.
State Senator Fred Akshar continued the 2nd year of his "Akshar's All-Stars" student recognition program on Tuesday by recognizing students at 4 school districts. At the Harpursville High School, Akshar recognized senior Colin LaDue for his leadership, dedication and many contributions to his school and community. At the Afton High School, Akshar recognized sophomore Logan Ives for her selfless devotion to charity and giving back to others in need. At Bainbridge-Guilford High School, Akshar recognized senior Tannar Cliffe for his kindness and dependability both in and out of school. At DCMO BOCES in Norwich, Akshar recognized senior Destin Foley for his energy and dedication to both his academic studies and to helping others in the classroom.
Firefighters from Sherburne & 2 other local departments responded to a fire at Crandall's Auto on Blanding Road in Sherburne last night at about 8:30 PM. No injuries were reported, the building was completely destroyed; investigators are trying to determine how that fire started.
The Chenango Arts Council's 2019 Grants for Teachers application deadline has been extended until this Friday, December 21st. The Program provides up to $500 to K-12 teachers in Chenango County who find innovative ways to integrate the arts into the regular school curriculum through projects that are not covered by the school budget. Teachers currently employed by a public or private school in Chenango County are eligible to apply; more information is available at chenangoarts.org/grants/grants-for-teachers. Awards will be made in February 2019.

Talbot was additionally charged with unlicensed operator, operating without a headlight. She was released on tickets returnable to Franklin Town Court at a later date.

Walton Central School Superintendent Roger Clough has been placed on administrative leave, the High School Principal Rob Knuschke & Assistant Principal Mark Lamoreaux & Middle School Principal Andy Gates have all resigned in recent weeks, following alleged misconduct by Clough while serving as Superintendent since 2013. Clough has hired a Syracuse Law firm; they have begun the process to sue the District, the Board of Education, and Board President Ronda Williams. The Walton School Board released a statement to WCDO today, first the stated that personnel matters cannot be discussed, secondly, 3 of the Walton Administrators accepted positions in other districts, the Board will consider all options to quickly work on replacements, & they are confident that they will have capable staff in place for their opening day events.
Democratic Party Congressional Candidate Anthony Brindisi has agreed to 6 debates throughout the 22nd district ahead of the November election. The League of Women Voters of Broome and Tioga Counties debate has been scheduled for November 1st at the PBS Media Studios in Vestal from 8:00 - 9:00 PM. Norwich Police arrested 47-year-old Paul Russell of Norwich on charges of Sexual Abuse, Course of Sexual Contact against a Child, Forcible Touching, for allegedly subjecting a child to sexual contact. Russell was arraigned in Norwich City Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail, he is scheduled to reappear in City Court on Tuesday.
The Investigation is continuing of Former State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who resigned Monday after allegations of physical violence against 4 women. Area Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that this was another case that points up the need for ethics reforms for state elected officials:

Schneiderman was replaced by Barbara Underwood on an interim basis, the case if being investigated by Nassau County DA Madeline Singas.
Governor Cuomo today announced that $3 million is available to help New Yorkers suffering from serious health issues that are aggravated by extreme heat in order to purchase an air conditioner. Individuals can apply through HEAP at their local department of social services. To qualify, applicants must meet existing HEAP eligibility criteria and income guidelines, which vary by household size, and have at least one member of the household that suffers from a documented medical condition exacerbated by extreme heat. Applications will be accepted through August 31, or until funding runs out, the applications are available at otda.ny.gov.
UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital will launch a new education series for women; it will begin Monday at the Bohemian Moon at 103 East Main Street in Norwich. The event will begin at 6:00 PM, the presentation and discussion led by Dr. Phyllis Sheriff-White will follow at 7:00 PM.
The City of Oneonta will be performing maintenance on the upper and middle levels of the parking garage on Monday beginning at 4:00 a.m. The upper level entrance and exit will be open for the duration. 52 year old Michael Slack of Otego has been charged with making a terroristic threat, Menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, & Harassment, following the report of a domestic dispute Tuesday. Slack is accused of making terroristic threats about government officials, & threatening a victim with a rifle; he was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.

Investigators reported that there is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Officer Crossley was a full-time member of the Whitesboro Police Department for 7 years, he was 34 years old.
The Delaware County Historical Association will feature Kurt Reigel, who owns & is restoring the Andrew Mann Inn on State Route 7 Riverside Sidney. The presentation will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday regarding the building that was built in 1787; it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. State Police CNET arrested 36 year old Matthew Mazepa of Harpursville, in the City of Binghamton on active felony bench warrants from Chenango County Court. Mazepa was found to be in possession of an assault rifle, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, marihuana, ammunition and drug paraphernalia. Mazepa was charged with Criminal Possession Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Tampering with physical evidence, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia & Resisting Arrest, he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
State Police arrested a 21-year-old man following a domestic incident. Joshua Backus of Greene was charged with 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Stimulant, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 4 counts of Menacing and Harassment and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. Troopers were called to a residence in the Town of Oxford to investigate a domestic dispute; Backus pushed 2 subjects and threatened them with a hammer, pointed a gun at them and attempted to hit them with his vehicle. Troopers observed Backus drive by the residence, he was arrested, arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond pending Grand Jury action on April 18th.
Erin Collier of Cooperstown, who is a candidate for Congress in New York’s 19th district, announced today that she has qualified to be on the ballot for the Democratic Primary on June 26th. Collier’s campaign filed over 2,700 signatures in support of her candidacy with the State Board of Elections, more than double the required number of signatures.

State Police CNET arrested 36 year old Matthew Mazepa of Harpursville, in the City of Binghamton on active felony bench warrants from Chenango County Court. Mazepa was found to be in possession of an assault rifle, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, marihuana, ammunition and drug paraphernalia. Mazepa was charged with Criminal Possession Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Tampering with physical evidence, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia & Resisting Arrest, he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
State Police arrested a 21-year-old man following a domestic incident. Joshua Backus of Greene was charged with 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Stimulant, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 4 counts of Menacing and Harassment and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. Troopers were called to a residence in the Town of Oxford to investigate a domestic dispute; Backus pushed 2 subjects and threatened them with a hammer, pointed a gun at them and attempted to hit them with his vehicle. Troopers observed Backus drive by the residence, he was arrested, arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond pending Grand Jury action on April 18th.
Erin Collier of Cooperstown, who is a candidate for Congress in New York’s 19th district, announced today that she has qualified to be on the ballot for the Democratic Primary on June 26th. Collier’s campaign filed over 2,700 signatures in support of her candidacy with the State Board of Elections, more than double the required number of signatures.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputy’s arrested 37 year old Benjamin Pankiewicz & 31 year old Ashlee Calabrese of Walton for Attempted Assault after they had engaged in a physical altercation with one another. Pankiewicz was also arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, as the altercation occurred while a child was present. Calabrese was issued an appearance ticket, having to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date. Pankiewicz was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500 cash or $1,000 secured bond.
The City of Oneonta Department of Public Service announced this year’s schedule for curbside residential brush and yard waste pick-up. City residents wards 1 through 4 will be picked up on Monday April 16th, those living in wards 5 to 8 will be picked up the following Monday, April 23rd. Residents should have brush and yard waste out no sooner than the weekend before the scheduled pick-up to prevent possible code violation.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced criminal convictions and a civil resolution against Broome County trash collection firms, Bert Adams Disposal and Taylor Garbage Service. The 2 companies conspired to rig bids, allocate customers, and fix prices for trash and recycling services, which forced residents and businesses to pay artificially inflated prices for essential services, they also colluded on bidding for municipal contracts. As part of Bert Adams Disposal’s guilty plea, it will be required to pay $850,000 in criminal penalties. Taylor Garbage Service, Inc. will pay $500,000 in civil penalties, and Robert Taylor, the company’s president and co-owner, will also pay a $50,000 penalty to New York State.

Synthetic marijuana is sold with street names such as K2, Spice and AK-47, which consists of plant material coated by chemicals, which are supposed to mimic the effects of naturally grown marijuana.

Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig announced that the city has chosen Trampoline Advertising and Design Co. of Glens Falls to develop and implement Oneonta's Downtown Revitalization Initiative branding, marketing, downtown directory and welcome signage programs. Oneonta was awarded $570,000 for the programs as part of the state's DRI award of $10 million.
34 year old Tristan Reid of Scranton Pennsylvania was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, unlicensed operator, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, & several other related charges, following an accident on Main Street last Friday evening. Reid is accused of driving into on-coming traffic, he went up a curb onto a sidewalk and lawn, damaged a street sign, & drove into the side of 365 Main Street. Reid was sent to Otsego County jail on $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond pending future court action.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s department announced that Margaret Thayer was found deceased near her Property in the town of Otsego this morning. Thayer was reported missing back on march 6th, Deep snow drifts had prevented deputies from reaching some of her property behind her residence, an autopsy may be performed, Sheriff Richard Devlin reported that there was no trauma to the body and foul play is not suspected, the investigation is continuing.

State Police and local law enforcement will conduct special enforcement efforts designed to deter drinking and driving during St. Patrick's Day weekend. The traffic enforcement detail runs through Sunday, Drivers can expect sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and stings targeting underage drinking and illegal sales of alcohol to minors during the campaign. State Police will also be ticketing distracted drivers who use handheld electronic devices. During the 2017 St. Patrick's Day weekend enforcement effort, Troopers made 229 arrests for DWI and issued nearly 15,000 tickets.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Morgan Cleveland of Norwich for 1 count of Criminal Contempt, after Cleveland allegedly violated an order of protection that was issued in February by the Town of Norwich Court. Cleveland was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on bail; he will appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
State Police arrested John Griffioen for Reckless Endangerment & Disorderly Conduct, after troopers discovered that Griffioen deliberately caused a traffic hazard by parking his vehicle in the middle of West Hill Road in the town of Worcester, which almost caused a school bus with 31 passengers to collide with his vehicle. He is accused of approaching the bus and shouting at the bus driver. Griffioen was released on appearance tickets and is due in the town of Worcester Court on March 20th.
State Police arrested 39 year old Jillenia Murphy of Afton for DWI, Obstructing Governmental Administration and several traffic infractions. Troopers were dispatched to Oak Hill Road in the town of Afton for a 1-car accident, they located Murphy and her vehicle stuck in the snow. Murphy refused to submit to a breath sample or allow troopers to take her fingerprints and was charged with obstructing governmental administration. Murphy was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail or $2,000 bond; she faces court action in the town of Afton Court & Town of Unadilla Court on March 26th.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 21 year old Armoni Prince of Endicott for Criminal Mischief, after deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Greene. Prince is alleged to have destroyed the cellular phone of the victim who was attempting to contact police for assistance. Prince was arraigned in the Town of Greene Court and was released on recognizance and is to reappear in court at a later date.

State Police arrested 46 year old Marc McKercher of Union for Attempted Arson, after troopers received a complaint of 2 suspicious devices on the front steps and front lawn of a residence on King Street in Endwell. Further investigation revealed the items were improvised explosive devices which did not detonate successfully. State Police Bomb Disposal Unit was called to the scene and rendered the items safe. They secured the items from the scene, the investigation is continuing.

Chenango County Sheriff’s department arrested 19 year old Johnathon Gemberling of Norwich on a warrant for failure to comply with his conditions following a conviction of Criminal possession of a controlled substance. Gemberling was apprehended following a foot pursuit and was taken into custody; deputies discovered Suboxone and methamphetamine in Gemberling’s possession. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Morgan Cleveland of Norwich for 1 count of Criminal Contempt, after Cleveland allegedly violated an order of protection that was issued in February by the Town of Norwich Court. Cleveland was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on bail; he will appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
State Police arrested John Griffioen for Reckless Endangerment & Disorderly Conduct, after troopers discovered that Griffioen deliberately caused a traffic hazard by parking his vehicle in the middle of West Hill Road in the town of Worcester, which almost caused a school bus with 31 passengers to collide with his vehicle. He is accused of approaching the bus and shouting at the bus driver. Griffioen was released on appearance tickets and is due in the town of Worcester Court on March 20th.
State Police arrested 39 year old Jillenia Murphy of Afton for DWI, Obstructing Governmental Administration and several traffic infractions. Troopers were dispatched to Oak Hill Road in the town of Afton for a 1-car accident, they located Murphy and her vehicle stuck in the snow. Murphy refused to submit to a breath sample or allow troopers to take her fingerprints and was charged with obstructing governmental administration. Murphy was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail or $2,000 bond; she faces court action in the town of Afton Court & Town of Unadilla Court on March 26th.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 21 year old Armoni Prince of Endicott for Criminal Mischief, after deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Greene. Prince is alleged to have destroyed the cellular phone of the victim who was attempting to contact police for assistance. Prince was arraigned in the Town of Greene Court and was released on recognizance and is to reappear in court at a later date.

State Police arrested 46 year old Marc McKercher of Union for Attempted Arson, after troopers received a complaint of 2 suspicious devices on the front steps and front lawn of a residence on King Street in Endwell. Further investigation revealed the items were improvised explosive devices which did not detonate successfully. State Police Bomb Disposal Unit was called to the scene and rendered the items safe. They secured the items from the scene, the investigation is continuing.

Police in Nicaragua were turning over Orlando Tercero to Judicial Authorities in Nicaragua, they may decide to send Tercero back to Broome County to face charges, in connection with the death of Haley Anderson at Tercero's Binghamton apartment last week. Both Tercero & Anderson were nursing students at Binghamton University & had dated for a short period of time last year. The Broome County District Attorney's Office is working with Binghamton Police in presenting charges against Tercero to a grand jury, if he is indicted, he could be brought back to Binghamton to face charges.
Governor Cuomo announced that for the 3rd consecutive week, the number of laboratory confirmed influenza cases has decreased. Last week, 3,692 laboratory confirmed influenza cases were reported to the State Department of Health, The number of weekly hospitalizations decreased for the 5th consecutive week, with 694 New Yorkers hospitalized for influenza. There have been 5 pediatric influenza-associated deaths this flu season.
Lawmakers in each house of the Legislature have finished their budget proposals, State Senator Jim Seward said that the Senate budget cuts $1 Billion dollars in taxes but adds spending for Agriculture, the Opioid Crisis & veterans issues:

Both Grabo and the occupant of the vehicle were taken to Bassett Hospital for further evaluation. Grabo was later released and issued tickets to return to the town of Morris Court on March 26, 2018.
State Police arrested 20 year old Collin Vonlangen of Fenton for Menacing, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and traffic infractions, after a 2 vehicle crash on State Route 7 in the town of Colesville. During their investigation, troopers learned that Vonlangen was the operator of a vehicle that collided with a second vehicle, he displayed a metal pipe in a threatening manner toward the driver of the 2nd vehicle. Vonlangen was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the town of Colesville Court on March 21, 2018.
A Nineveh woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing checks from a family member and making purchases. 35-year old Jessica Schultz was arrested on Monday and charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument, and identity theft. The Broome County Sheriff's Office says Schultz allegedly stole personal checks from a family member taking 63-hundred dollars from their account. Schultz was already incarcerated at the Broome County Jail on other charges. She will be arraigned in the near future.
47 year old Kenneth Upton of Mount Vision was indicted on a varoety of drug counts, following an arrest by Oneonta Police for allegedly selling heroin in 2016. Upton was being held in the Otsego County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond pending future court action.

The Broome County Special Investigation Unit Task Force executed a search warrant in Port Crane, which resulted in the arrests of 31-year-old Brett Poyer & 30 year old Jodi Bickos. Officers seized 2.2lbs of methamphetamine, packaging materials, and paraphernalia at the residence, Poyer and Bickos were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Criminally using Drug Paraphernalia, they face court action shortly.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has completed its investigation of Monday's fatal fire at 553 German Hollow Road in the Town of Plymouth. Investigators have determined the fire started in the area of a wood stove being used to heat the residence. It was also determined from autopsies that Debbie Pfeiffer, Amber Morrow and Benjamin Pfeiffer all died from smoke inhalation.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 22 year old Nicholas Corrao of Stamford on 1 count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child following a report of child abuse in the village of Stamford. Deputies allege that Corrao acted in a manner which was injurious to the mental and moral welfare of a child less than 17 years of age. Corrao was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to reappear at the Town of Stamford court at a later date.
The State Labor Department released local unemployment rates for the month of December. Locally, Chenango County was up to 5.8%, Delaware County had 5.7% unemployment & Otsego County had 5.2% unemployment, the state rate was at 4.4% for December.
The Unatego School District Board of Education is holding a special vote today from 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM, in the Unatego Middle/High School building in Wells Bridge. Eligible voters in the Unatego district will vote on the leasing of 3 large and 1 small passenger school buses.
